Abstract
The aza-Prins reaction is a widely employed and highly efficient method for the preparation of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles. Its major drawback has always been a lack of diastereoselectivity and the formation of racemic products. Herein, we address these problems and report, for the first time, the synthesis of both diastereomerically and enantiopure multiply substituted piperidines via the aza-Prins reaction. This method is widely applicable for natural product synthesis and is exemplified here by the synthesis of enantiopure pipecolic acid derivatives.

Abstract
Cyclobutene alcohols undergo Prins cyclisations to generate single diastereomers of novel tricyclic heterocycles with five contiguous stereocentres. The reaction times are significantly shorter (ca. 15 min) than with traditional alkene substrates. Stereoselective aza-Prins cyclisations of cyclobutene amine derivatives give fused aza-heterocyclic scaffolds. Computational studies provide insight into the observed stereocontrol. The modular approach is flexible, enabling the introduction of a variety of functional groups (including amides, nitriles, alkynes, and arenes) into the sp3 -rich heterocyclic scaffolds.

Abstract
The alkyne aza-Prins cyclization of 3,5-diynyl amides and various aldehydes was developed as a first example of the aza-Prins cyclization with the introduction of TfO groups. This method could be applied to homopropargyl amides.

Abstract
A novel acetic acid-promoted metal-free cascade N-acyliminium ion/aza-Prins cyclization of o-formyl carbamates and homoallylamines is reported. This one-pot protocol provides efficient and rapid access to masked cis-hydroxyhexahydropyrido[1,2-c]quinazolin-6-ones with concomitant generation of two stereogenic centers, four C-C/C-O/C-N bonds and two new rings in good yield and excellent diastereoselectivity.

Abstract
A general and practical method for the preparation of trans-2-substituted-4-halopiperidines and cis-2-substituted-4-halotetrahydropyrans is reported. Using 5 mol % of AlCl3 as the catalyst and 2 equiv of trimethylsilyl halides as the halide sources, aza-Prins cyclization of N-tosyl homoallylamine or Prins cyclization of homoallylic alcohol with carbonyl compounds could be readily realized, giving the corresponding trans-2-substituted-4-halopiperidines or cis-2-substituted-4-halotetrahydropyrans in high yields and satisfactory diastereoselectivity.
