Abstract
Herein, we developed a series of compounds featuring spiro[3-arylcyclohexanone]oxindoles through Barbas [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions between isatylidene malononitrile and α,β-unsaturated ketones using l-proline as an organocatalyst. The reported methodology offers many advantages such as mild reaction conditions, diverse substrate scope with high yields, easy reaction setup, and use of easily synthesizable starting materials.

Abstract
An efficient and diastereoselective synthetic protocol for the construction of spiro[cyclohexane-1,3'-indolin]-3-en-2'-ones and spiro[cyclohexane-1,2'-inden]-3-ene-1',3'-diones was provided by HOAc-mediated domino reaction of pinacoles with typical dienophiles, such as 3-methyleneoxindolines and 2-arylideneindane-1,3-diones, in ionic liquid [Bmim]Br. This domino reaction involved the in situ generation of 1,3-dienes from acid-mediated dehydration of various pinacoles and the sequential Diels-Alder reaction.

Abstract
Spirooxindoles are important synthetic targets possessing extended biological activity and drug discovery applications. This review focuses on the various strategies for the enantioselective synthesis of spirocyclic oxindoles relying on reports over the past decade and from earlier work. The spirooxindoles in this review are separated into three structural classes, and then further categorized into the method type from which the spirocycle is generated.
