Abstract
A bifunctional ionic liquid (IL) [DDQM][HSO4] has been designed and explored as a three-way catalyst for the synthesis of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones from anthranilamide and benzyl alcohol in 3.5 min incorporating microwave irradiation. Photochemically the reaction proceeds for 4 h at room temperature and thermally for 8 h at 120 °C. Further IL-assisted metal, solvent, and base free in situ oxidation of benzyl alcohols to aldehydes shows its task specificity. The multifunctionality of the IL was reestablished with the synthesis of two Wnt pathway antagonists.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) have been extensively used in drug formulation and delivery as designer solvents and other components because of their inherent tunability and useful physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties. ILs can be used to manage some of the operational and functional challenges of drug delivery, including drug solubility, permeability, formulation instability, and in vivo systemic toxicity, that are associated with conventional organic solvents/agents. Furthermore, ILs have been recognized as potential solvents to address the polymorphism, limited solubility, poor permeability, instability, and low bioavailability of crystalline drugs. In this account, we discuss the technological progress and strategies toward designing biocompatible ILs and explore potential biomedical applications, namely the solubilization of small and macromolecular drugs, the creation of active pharmaceutical ingredients, and the delivery of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract
Saponin, as a green and available phytochemical, was immobilized on the surface of magnetite nanoparticles then doped with Cu ions (Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii)) and used as an efficient nanocatalyst for the synthesis of quinazoline and acridine derivatives, due to their high application and importance in various fields of science. Different spectroscopic and microscopic techniques were used for the catalyst characterization such as FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX, TEM, TGA, VSM, BET, DLS, CV, and XPS analyses. All characterization data were correlated with each other so that the structure of the catalyst was accurately characterized. The reactions were performed in the presence of a low amount of Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii) (0.42 mol%) as a green catalyst in water over a short period of time. The results show well the effective role of saponin in solving the problem of mass transfer in aqueous medium, which is the challenge of many organic reactions in aqueous medium and in the presence of heterogeneous medium. High catalytic activity was found for the catalyst and high to excellent efficiency was obtained for all quinazoline (68–94% yield) and acridine (66–97% yield) derivatives in short reaction times (less than 1 hour) under mild reaction conditions in the absence of any hazardous or expensive materials. There is not any noticeable by-product found whether for acridine or quinazoline derivatives, which reflects the high selectivity. Two reasonable mechanisms were proposed for the reactions based on observations from control experiments as well as literature reports. The catalyst could be easily recovered magnetically for at least six consecutive runs with insignificant reactivity loss. A highly efficient, robust, and green protocol has been developed for the synthesis of acridine and quinazoline derivatives in water under mild reaction conditions using a Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii) nanocomposite as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst.![]()

X-ray Crystal Structure and Hirshfeld Analysis of Gem-Aminals-Based Morpholine, Pyrrolidine, and Piperidine Moieties. Symmetry (Basel) 2020. Abstract
The gem-aminals of 1,2-dimorpholinoethane (1) and 1-morpholino-3-morpholinium bromide propane (2) were synthesized by reaction of two molar ratio of morpholine with the halogenating agents in the presence of basic condition (K2CO3) in acetone at room temperature (RT) overnight. The structures of the centro-symmetric compound 1 and the morpholinium salt derivative 2 were assigned unambiguous by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and compared with the 1,2-di(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethane 3 and 1,2-di(piperidin-1-yl)ethane 4. The 1,2-dimorpholinoethane molecule has a center of symmetry at the midpoint of the C-C bond of the ethyl moiety leading to two equivalent halves. It crystallized in monoclinic crystal system and P21/n space group, while the unit cell parameters are determined to be a = 6.0430(3), b = 8.0805(3), c = 11.1700(4) Å, and β = 97.475(2)° with unit cell volume of 540.80(4) Å3 and Z = 2 at 170(2) K. The less symmetric analogue 2 crystallized in the lower space group P21 with unit cell parameters of a = 6.37450(10), b = 11.1378(2), c = 9.6549(2) Å, and β = 93.358(2)°, while the unit cell volume is 684.30(2)Å3 at 120(2) K. Using Hirshfeld analysis, the molecules of 1 are mainly packed by weak N…H (4.2%), O…H (16.8%), and H…H (79.0%) interactions. In contrast, the molecules of 2 are packed by significantly short O…H (14.4%) and Br…H (11.6%) interactions in addition to the relatively long H…H (73.3%) interactions. DFT calculations predicted the molecular geometry of the studied compounds showing a good agreement with the experimental X-ray structures. Due to symmetry considerations, compounds 1, 3, and 4 are nonpolar with zero dipole moment, while the less symmetric molecule 2 has a dipole moment of 6.914 Debye. Their electronic aspects, such as natural population charges, HOMO, and LUMO energies as well as the corresponding reactivity descriptors, were also calculated and discussed.

Abstract
Solubility, bioavailability, permeation, polymorphism, and stability concerns associated to solid-state pharmaceuticals demand for effective solutions. To overcome some of these drawbacks, ionic liquids (ILs) have been investigated as solvents, reagents, and anti-solvents in the synthesis and crystallization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), as solvents, co-solvents and emulsifiers in drug formulations, as pharmaceuticals (API-ILs) aiming liquid therapeutics, and in the development and/or improvement of drug-delivery-based systems. The present review focuses on the use of ILs in the pharmaceutical field, covering their multiple applications from pharmaceutical synthesis to drug delivery. The most relevant research conducted up to date is presented and discussed, together with a critical analysis of the most significant IL-based strategies in order to improve the performance of therapeutics and drug delivery systems.

Abstract
An efficient 2-furyl gold-carbene promoted synthetic method was developed for the formation of dihydroquinazolinones from enynones by dual insertion of anthranilamides. In this organic transformation a new C-O and two C-N bond formations occurred and dihydroquinazolinones were obtained with a quaternary centre in moderate to very good yields in one-pot synthesis.

Abstract
Quinazoline analogues are one of the important nitrogen containing heterocycles that have significant bioactivity as well as found in a plethora of natural products. Tuberculosis is one of the serious universal health threats caused by Mycobacteriumtuberculosis (MTB) and primarily affects the lungs. Due to their significant bioactivity and natural occurrences of quinazolines, researchers are trying to synthesize new quinazoline analogues which may have significant potency against tuberculosis. This particular review summarizes recent development of different types of quinazoline bearing analogues as anti-tubercular (anti-TB) agents and their synthesis with structure-activity relationship.
