Abstract
Autologous tooth transplantation is a procedure that involves the replacement of a natural tooth with another at a new site or a surgically created recipient wound. With an appropriate selection of indications, studies report over 90% survival rates for transplanted teeth, even after 10 years. In this report, we presented a case of an incomplete rooted maxillary right third molar that was transplanted into the mandibular right first molar area. We also evaluated the stability of periodontal tissue, root development, and pulp regeneration after autologous tooth transplantation. The patient was a 20-year-old female who presented with the chief complaint of caries in the right mandibular first molar. The affected tooth was diagnosed as suitable for extraction because the crown decay progressed from the subgingival region to the furcation. Autologous tooth transplantation was performed using a right maxillary third molar with an incomplete root as the donor's tooth. After 6, 9, and 11 years of follow-up, radiographs showed stable periodontal tissue and a root apical condition. Root formation in the transplanted tooth proceeded smoothly without any problems. Root canal treatment was not required because the pulp demonstrated signs of vital response, and no stenosis or calcification of the pulp cavity was observed. The transplanted tooth also had a satisfactory occlusal function. Autologous tooth transplantation is a useful option for occlusal reconstruction following tooth extraction.

Abstract
CASE REPORT This case report describes the multidisciplinary approach performed in a 9-year-old male patient with dental agenesia affecting teeth 21 and 22. Autotransplantation of the right upper second premolar with incomplete rhizogenesis to the missing area was combined with coronary reshaping with resin composite and orthodontic therapy. The treatment began with the extraction of the deciduous upper left central incisor, bone preparation for the recipient site of the donor tooth, atraumatic extraction of the right upper second premolar and immediate autotransplantation in the surgically prepared recipient site. Subsequently, sutures to reposition the flap and a rigid splint were performed. After 12 months, coronary reshaping of the autotransplanted tooth with resin composite was carried out. Orthodontic treatment involving the use of a fixed appliance was used to correct the interdental spaces and achieve adequate occlusion. Clinical and radiographic follow-up 10 years after tooth autotransplantation and 9 years after reshaping revealed partial obliteration of the pulp chamber, root resorption, ankylosis and the presence of endodontic treatment. CONCLUSIONS The long-term outcomes highlighted that tooth autotransplantation represents a biologically and cost-effective procedure for replacing missing teeth in young patients, particularly in cases of incomplete rhizogenesis of the autotransplanted tooth. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This case report discusses tooth autotransplantation and resin composite reshaping as viable and long-term clinical options for treating young patients with dental agenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Jaw cysts often deeply involve adjacent tooth roots, making it difficult to preserve them. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the effectiveness of an intentional replantation (IR) strategy combined with cyst enucleation in preserving cyst-involved teeth during jaw cyst removal. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifteen patients with jaw cysts and deeply involved teeth were treated with IR and cyst enucleation. All patients received root canal therapy prior to surgery, except for one patient who received it during surgery. The involved teeth were extracted, and the root surface was carefully cleaned before IR and cyst enucleation. Patients were followed up for 12-14 months, with indicators including clinical complaints, replanted tooth stability, and root resorption. RESULTS No cyst recurrence was observed, and all replanted teeth survived with good local gingival condition and no marked swelling or recession. Radiographic findings showed clear periodontal space surrounding the replanted teeth. One replanted tooth exhibited slight root resorption due to occlusal trauma, but the resorption ceased after occlusal adjustment. CONCLUSIONS IR combined with cyst enucleation is an effective strategy for thoroughly cleaning jaw cysts and preserving teeth involved in the cyst.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the applicability of transplanted teeth in young patients with craniofacial anomalies. DESIGN Observational study. SETTING Comprehensive Centre for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Malformations. PATIENTS/PARTICIPANTS Patients with craniofacial anomalies who underwent tooth transplantation. Only children with complete clinical and radiological documentation and a follow-up period of at least 1.5 years were included. INTERVENTIONS Tooth transplantation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Retrospective evaluation of clinical records, pre- and postoperative radiographs, and operative charts. Clinical characteristics of patients, preoperative parameters and postoperative outcome parameters were collected. RESULTS A total of 17 patients with 23 tooth transplantations were included. The median follow-up period was 6.7 years. The pooled survival and success rates were 91%. Notably, one out of two teeth that were transplanted into the bone grafted alveolar cleft site had to be extracted, which might indicating a higher risk for this procedure. In total, two transplanted teeth had to be extracted during the follow-up period, one due to external resorption and the other one due to perio-endo lesion. One patient needed endodontic treatment due to pulp necrosis. CONCLUSION We consider tooth transplantation to be a reliable and suitable procedure in the dental rehabilitation of young patients with craniofacial anomalies and fitting concomitant circumstances. We encourage craniofacial teams to reconsider this option more frequently in appropriate cases.

Abstract
Introduction The aim of the study was to assess and compare the efficacy of autotransplantation of molars with complete and incomplete root formation, by checking the viability of the procedure to replace non-restorable molar teeth in the extraction sockets. Materials and Methods Twenty patients with non-restorable molars were included in this study. They were divided into two groups with complete and incomplete root-formed third molars, which needed to be transplanted in place of non-restorable molars. A routine surgical procedure was performed to remove infected molars. Atraumatic removal of the third molar was performed and reimplanted in the socket of previously extracted infected molars. Results Results were evaluated based on clinical observation and radiographic analysis of the transplanted tooth. Out of 20 transplants, one transplant, despite good initial stability, was extracted after one month because of abnormal horizontal and axial mobility; this was the single failure case (5%). Of the rest, 19/20 (95%) transplants were followed up for 6 months and showed no failure. Conclusion This study clearly indicated that the benefits of autotransplantation over other treatment options are numerous, and the results are not affected by whether the root of the transplanted tooth is complete or incompletely formed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This retrospective study aimed to identify which patient-, donor tooth-, recipient site-, and surgical procedure-related variables may influence the outcome of tooth autotransplantation. METHODS The sample included 128 autotransplants performed in 122 patients. Single-visit clinical/imaging examinations were used to define the outcome as successful, survival, or failure. The association of potential indicators with the survival or failure categories was analyzed individually and adjusted for confounders through multivariate logistic regression models. RESULTS After a follow-up period of 1 to 30.11 years, success was achieved in 71.8% of autotransplants, whereas the survival and failure groups had rates of 14.1% each, and the grouped success/survival rate reached 85.9%. An extraoral time >15 minutes and difficult handling/placement were strong/independent risk covariates for survival and failure categories (odds ratio >1, P < .05). Additionally, unerupted/partially erupted status of the donor tooth was a significant indicator for survival, whereas deficient bone level at the recipient site, surgical extraction, poor initial stability, and lack of prophylactic antibiotics were independently linked to failure (odds ratio > 1, P < .05). The root morphology and socket status acted as modifiers of the effect of the recipient site location on the survival group (P > .05). CONCLUSION Based on the results of this study, unerupted/partially erupted status of the donor tooth, surgical extraction, total extraoral time >15 minutes, deficient recipient's bone level, difficult handling/placement of the autotransplant, poor initial stability, and lack of prophylactic antibiotics during the surgical procedure must be considered with caution when performing autotransplantation because of their deleterious influence on the outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM This study aimed to develop a protocol that combines cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), software, and 3D printing to design 3D replicas for tooth autotransplantation. The goal was to evaluate the impact of this approach on the extraoral time of the donor teeth and the total surgical time, thereby enhancing surgical efficiency and outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS A non-randomized trial (protocol 10.1186/ISRCTN13563091) was conducted at Riga Stradins University, enrolling 46 patients (13-22 years old) who required molar extraction and possessed a non-erupted third molar. The patients were sequentially assigned to a 3D replica group (24 patients) or a control group (22 patients). The primary outcome measured was the extra-alveolar time of the donor tooth, and the secondary outcome was the total duration of surgery. Both were assessed using a sample size capable of detecting a 10-min difference. A generalized linear model adjusted for various factors was used to test for significant time differences (p < .05) between the groups. RESULTS Forty-six patients were included in this analysis. The effect of using 3D replicas was not statistically significant and was associated with a decrease in the extraoral time of the donor tooth in seconds (β = -9.35, 95% CI [-40.86, 22.16]). For the total surgical time in minutes, the use of 3D replicas had a statistically significant impact, reducing the operation duration in minutes (β = -13.42, 95% CI [-24.50, -2.34]). No early complications were observed in either group, with all teeth present at 3-4 weeks post-surgery. CONCLUSIONS The integration of 3D printing technology can enhance the efficiency of autotransplantation surgeries, primarily by reducing surgical time.

Abstract
Third molar extraction is the most common procedure in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Third molars are considered less functional than other teeth and are often extracted. Sometimes, they are also used for auto-transplantation for the benefit of oral rehabilitation. Since many biological factors are involved in this surgical approach, herein, we outline a review of the biological characteristics of medico-legal/forensic interest, in addition to presenting a successful clinical case. A scoping review of currently available research data (following the principles of PRISMA-ScR or the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) on third molar auto-transplantation was conducted by drawing upon the main databases (Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar and LILACS) to evaluate biological and clinical characteristics possibly relatable to forensic issues. All the collected data were summarized and elaborated on for the purpose of this article. A patient underwent extraction of the right upper first molar and auto-transplantation of the unerupted ipsilateral third molar. Many biologic and clinical factors are involved in the success of this clinical procedure. Knowledge of third molar anatomy, of its development and viable surgical approaches are all essential elements; just as important are the treatment of the tooth before and after transplantation and the integrity of the periodontal ligament. Follow-up of the clinical case for 5 years made it possible to verify the stability of the procedure over time. Third molar auto-transplantation is feasible and cost-effective. However, the use of third molars as donor teeth in auto-transplantation may have medico-legal implications. The lack of official protocols and consistent evidence-based guidelines for operators still prevent such a procedure from becoming mainstream; therefore, it is viewed with suspicion by clinicians and patients, even though the biological factors herein detected point to a reasonably high degree of safety. The understanding of many specific biological and clinical factors involved in the stability of third molar auto-transplantation allows for a thorough understanding of the forensic implications relevant to clinical practice. Effective communication and information provision are therefore of utmost importance, in the interest of both patients and doctors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to validate our Cox proportional hazards prognostic model for autotransplantation of teeth with complete root formation using prognostic index (PI) and determine whether the prognosis can be predicted. PATIENTS AND METHODS The Protocol group, as a training data set for validation, consisted of 259 autotransplanted teeth to create a PI using the Cox model, as described previously. The Pre-protocol group, as the first validation data set, consisted of 95 autotransplanted teeth treated without a protocol. The Post-protocol group, as the second validation data set, consisted of 61 autotransplanted teeth obtained after the establishment of the prognostic model. Because four prognostic factors, including history of root canal treatment (yes), number of roots (multirooted), source of donor tooth (maxillary tooth), and duration of edentulism (≥2.5 months), were selected as a Cox prognostic model, 16 patterns of PI were constructed. First, the autotransplantated teeth in the Protocol group were divided into low- and high-risk groups respectively according to the median of PI as the cutoff value. The survival curves of low- and high-risk groups were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and tested using the log-rank test. Then, in the Pre- and Post-protocol groups, all transplanted teeth were divided into low-and high-risk teeth by the median of PI and the survival curves of low- and high- risk teeth were analyzed statistically in a similar manner. RESULTS The survival curves of the low- and high-risk groups diverged significantly in the Protocol and Post-protocol groups. In the Pre-protocol group, the curves of the low- and high-risk groups were separated, and the low-risk survival rate was improved. CONCLUSIONS Our Cox prognostic model for autotransplantation of teeth with complete root formation was useful in predicting the prognosis by external validation using PI.

Abstract
Repositioning of impacted teeth in the dental arch through en-bloc autotransplantation showed short-term efficacy of 89%. The objective of this study was to evaluate the technique for long-term efficacy. The analysis involved 23 teeth transplanted to the alveolar ridge through harvesting the tooth with the adjacent bone tissue. Development of the root was completed and the apical foramen was closed in all the teeth. The teeth were examined clinically and radiologically (CBCT) and compared to contralateral ones. The obtained data were analysed statistically. The efficacy of the procedure amounted to 81% including two teeth lost at an early stage and another two lost during follow-up. The mean age of patients upon performing the procedure was 29.8. The long-term follow-up amounted to the mean of 34.3 months. In the study group recession of 1-2 mm as well as 3-5 mm was found, which was not noted on the control group. In 11.1% of the study group teeth the external root resorption was observed. No transplanted tooth underwent root canal treatment, no periapical changes were observed at CBCT and 77.8% of those showed positive reaction to ethyl chloride. One case of ankylosis was observed in tooth 11 and in two cases increased mobility of the transplanted tooth was found. Regeneration of nerves as well as revascularization in the en-bloc autotransplantation proceeded with high predictability and the risk of ankylosis of the treated tooth seemed to be negligible. Gingival recession was observed more often in case of en-bloc transplantation compared to the control group. The long-term follow-up suggested that this the technique does not prevent external resorption in 100%.

Abstract
Study Design Autotransplantation, if possible, is a viable option for replacing a missing tooth when a donor tooth is available. The most typical tooth transplant is the transfer of a third molar to a first molar site. No immune reaction results from transplants of this nature. It restores the proprioceptive function and normal periodontal healing; thus, the patient can have a natural chewing feeling and natural biological response. Objective This study aims to evaluate the prognosis of autotransplanted mandibular third molar and also to evaluate the cost effectiveness of the treatment performed when compared to the other treatment modalities for prosthetic rehabilitation. Methods A prospective study was done in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Sardar Patel Post Graduate Institute of Dental & Medical Sciences, Lucknow, UP, India, with over 20 patients to evaluate the prognosis of autotransplanted mandibular third molars with complete root formation after atraumatic extraction of first or second mandibular molar, which were randomly selected irrespective of race, sex, caste, and socio-economic status. Regular clinical and radiographical examinations were performed over a period of 1 year and the patients were assessed for pain, swelling, infection, dry socket, periodontal pocket depth, ankylosis, root resorption, tooth mobility, and level of buccal bone in relation to cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Results Eighteen out of 20 transplants were successful; only 2 mandibular transplants were extracted because of abnormal horizontal and axial mobility and the reason of failure was attributed to fact that the roots of transplant were short and conical and there was lack of alveolar bone height at the recipient site in one patient, while root resorption was the reason for failure of transplant in the other patient. Conclusions This study assessed the efficacy of autotransplantation of molars and the viability of the procedure to replace unrestorable molar teeth; it also supports the hypothesis that transplantation of a mandibular third molar for replacement of a lost or seriously damaged molar tooth could be a reasonable alternative.

Abstract
This clinical report describes immediate tooth auto-transplantation with an autograft of partially demineralized dentin/cementum matrix (pDDM), based on an orthodontic treatment plan for a 16-year-old male patient with a congenital missing tooth (#45). First, vital teeth (#14, #24) were extracted, and root canal filling (#14) was immediately performed with the support of a fixation device. Simultaneously, the tooth (#24) was crushed in an electric mill for 1 min, and the crushed granules were partially demineralized in 2% HNO3 solution for 20 min as the graft material. Next, the donor tooth was transplanted into the created socket (#45), and stabilized using an enamel bonding agent. The wet pDDM was loaded into the location of the congenital missing tooth, and the flap was repositioned. The bonding agent for stabilization was removed at 28 days, and also small contact points between the transplanted tooth and the upper premolar (#14) were added using photopolymerizable composite resin. X-ray photos were taken sequentially, and there were no postoperative complications. The radiographic images showed that the periodontal ligament space and alveolar ridge line could be observed at 18 months. The pDDM was harmonized with the mandible, and the remodeled bone-like shadow was observed in the graft region. We concluded that immediate tooth transplantation with root canal fillings and autogenous pDDM may be a valuable alternative to dental implanting or bridge formation for patients with a congenital missing tooth, followed by orthodontic treatment.

Abstract
After immediate tooth extraction or after alveolar socket healing, tooth transplants are increasingly used for functional restoration of edentulous maxillary areas. Recent studies have shown the periodontal ligament (PDL) viability and the tooth housing time in the adapted neo-alveolus as key factors for transplantation success. During surgical time, 3D stereolithographic replicas are used for fitting test procedures. In this paper, the accuracy of 3D dental replicas, compared with the corresponding natural teeth, is assessed in surgical transplantation. Lamb skulls were selected and submitted to Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT). Scanning information, converted into Standard Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) and Standard Triangulation Language (STL), was sent to the Volux X-ray Centre for 3D replica printing. After the tooth extractions, all lambs’ incisors were measured with a digital caliber and compared with the 3D replicas. Volume and dimensional error values were evaluated. All replicas showed macroscopically smaller volume (45.54%). Root replicas showed higher variations compared with the crown areas, with several unreplicated apical root areas. The cement–enamel junction tooth area was replicated quite faithfully, and the base area relative error showed 9.8% mean value. Even further studies with a larger number of replicas are needed. Data obtained confirmed high volumes of macroscopic discrepancies with several unreproduced apical root sites. The achieved accuracy (90.2%) confirmed that the 3D replicas cannot be used to reduce the surgical time during transplantation predictable procedures.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyse and compare the position of single-rooted autotransplanted teeth using computer-aided SNT drilling and conventional freehand (FT) drilling, by comparing the planned and performed position at the coronal, apical and angular level. Materials and methods: Forty single-root upper teeth were selected and distributed into the following study groups: A. Autotransplanted tooth using the computer-aided static navigation technique (SNT) (n = 20) and B. Autotransplanted tooth using the conventional free-hand technique (FT) (n = 20). Afterwards, the teeth were embedded into two experimental models and 10 single-root upper teeth were randomly autotransplanted in each experimental model. The experimental models were submitted to a preoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan and a digital impression by a 3D intraoral scan, in addition to a postoperative CBCT scan, after the autotransplantation. Datasets from postoperative CBCT scans of the two study groups were uploaded to the 3D implant planning software, aligned with the autotransplantation planning, and the coronal, apical and angular deviations were measured. The results were analysed using Student’s t-test and Mann–Whitney non-parametric statistical analysis. Results: Coronal (p = 0.079) and angular (p = 0.208) statistical comparisons did not present statistically significant differences; however, statistically significant differences between the apical deviation of the SNT and FT study groups (p = 0.038) were also observed. Conclusions: The computer-aided static navigation technique does not provide higher accuracy in the positioning of single-root autotransplanted teeth compared to the conventional free-hand technique.

Abstract
Background Autotransplantation is a beneficial treatment with a high success rate for young patients. However, most adult patients require root canal treatment (RCT) of the donor teeth after the autotransplantation procedure, which causes a prolonged treatment time and additional expenses and increases the rate of future tooth fracture. Rapid prototyping (RP)-assisted autotransplantation shortens the extra-alveolar time and enables a superior clinical outcome. However, no cohort studies of the application of this method on adult populations have been reported. Methods This study is a retrospective cohort study. All patients underwent autotransplantation from 2012 to 2020 in the Kaohsiung and Chia-Yi branches of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and the procedure and clinical outcomes were analysed. Differences in clinical outcomes, age, sex, extra-alveolar time, fixation method, and RCT rate were compared between the two groups. Results We enrolled 21 patients, 13 treated using the conventional method and 8 treated using the RP-based technique. The RCT rates of the conventional group and RP group were 92.3% and 59%, respectively. The mean age of the two groups was significantly different (28.8 ± 10 vs. 21.6 ± 2.1); after performing subgroup analysis by excluding all of the patients aged > 40 years, we found that the RCT rates were still significantly different (91.0% vs. 50%). The mean extra-alveolar time was 43 s in the RP group, and the autotransplantation survival rate in both groups was 100%. Conclusions Rapid prototyping-assisted autotransplantation was successfully adopted for all patients in our study population. By shortening the extra-alveolar time, only 50% of the patients required a root canal treatment with a 100% autotransplantation survival rate. Trial Registration : Retrospectively registered.

Abstract
Impacted lower second molars (ILM2) are rarely reported in the literature, but various studies have been done for its treatment. Apart from solely orthodontic approaches, different surgical management techniques were reported to have successful outcomes. Surgical intervention of ILM2 can help expose the tooth for further orthodontic purposes, simplifying complex treatment methods, and reducing treatment time. This review illustrates the comprehensive evaluation and updated methods of surgical uprighting, repositioning, and transplantation of ILM2 with future directions for better understanding and treatment planning in the clinical setting. The successful outcome of surgical intervention depends on case selection, root development of ILM2, careful surgical manipulation, and adherence to sound biological principles.

Abstract
Autogenous tooth transplantation is a procedure to reposition an autogenous tooth to another extraction area or surgically created recipient site. The autotransplantation procedures have been documented well in the literature, and the survival rate of the transplanted teeth was reported to be more than 90% after ten years. Therefore, autotransplantation might have been overlooked as a treatment option. The purpose of this case report is to evaluate the long-term (29-year) success and periodontal stability of the tooth autotransplantation from the mandibular third molar to the second molar. A 24-year old female presented to a clinic with a large caries lesion with periapical radiolucnecy on to tooth #18. The tooth was extracted with the site and treated with autogenous tooth transplantation from #17 with a complete root form. Endodontic treatment was completed 3 months post autotransplantation; the final prosthesis was placed 6 months postoperatively. The patient has shown excellent oral hygiene care and high compliance with the regular maintenance recall program. The transplanted tooth has been still functioning without any symptoms. Radiographic and clinical examinations revealed stable periodontal and endodontic conditions over the 29 years after the procedure. This case report showed the long-term success of autotransplantation of the mandibular third molar with a closed root apex to the second molar site. Autotransplantation can be an option when an adequate donor site is available to reconstruct the occlusion after the tooth extraction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to apply concentrated growth factor (CGF) to the transplanted area with inflammation, to observe the clinical effects of CGF on the inflammation area assisted by 3D printing technology. METHODS A total of 52 compromised mandibular first or second molar with chronic periapical lesions were transplanted with mature third molars. The patients were divided into CGF group (n = 26) and control group (n = 26) and transplanted into fresh extraction sockets with or without CGF. All the patients underwent clinical and radiographic examinations during the follow-up. RESULTS Average surgery and extra-oral time were 39 min (± 7.8) and 42 s (± 10.2). The success rates of CGF group and control group were 100% and 92.3% respectively. Most of the periapical lesions in CGF group healed completely within 3 months, which was significantly faster than control group. The initial stability of CGF group was better than control group immediately after operation, and the degree of pain in CGF group was lower than control group on the 1st and 3rd day after operation. CONCLUSIONS The application of CGF in recipient site with chronic periapical lesions can accelerate the regeneration of alveolar bone and the healing of inflammation, greatly shorten the healing period. Meanwhile, CGF help to reduce postoperative pain and reaction at the early stage of healing and increase the success rate of autogenous tooth transplantation (ATT). Additionally, the use of 3D printing model can greatly reduce the extra-oral time of donor teeth.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tooth autotransplantation is the repositioning of an erupted, partially erupted, or non-erupted autologous tooth from one site to another within the same individual. Several factors influence the success rate of the autotransplant, such as the stage of root development, the morphology of the tooth, the surgical procedure selected, the extraoral time, the shape of the recipient socket, the vascularity of the recipient bed, and the vitality of the cells of the periodontal ligament. The aim of this scoping review was to provide the most up-to-date information and data on the clinical principles of the third-molar autograft and thus provide clinical considerations for its success. MATERIALS AND METHODS This review was conducted based on PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews). The research was conducted by searching for keywords in three databases-PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar-by two independent reviewers following the PRISMA protocol, from which 599 records were identified. CONCLUSIONS Third-molar autotransplantation is a valid solution to replace missing teeth. The key to the success of this technique is the surgical procedure, which must be as atraumatic as possible to preserve the periodontal ligament of the tooth to be transplanted. The success rate is also linked to the stage of development of the root, with a worse prognosis in the case of a complete root.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Impacted maxillary canines are likely to be extracted in adult patients once orthodontic treatment is ruled out. The missing teeth are generally replaced with dental implants. CASE DESCRIPTION The authors report the clinical case of a 45-year-old man who was missing the maxillary left canine for 30 years. Radiographic examination revealed that the maxillary permanent left canine was palatally impacted. The tooth was transplanted into the prepared socket on the missing tooth site and secured in the desired position with a flexible wire splint. During the 7-year follow-up, the tooth remained clinically sound with no radiographic manifestation of inflammatory or root resorption. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The prognosis for the transplanted tooth was favorable after long-term follow-up observation. This result suggests that autotransplantation of impacted maxillary canines can be a viable treatment option for some adult patients who expect to retain their natural teeth.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D)-printed guides have been used in endodontics to prepare a conservative access, locate calcified or missing canals, and perform precisive osteotomy in apicoectomy. Here, we present the treatment of a fusion tooth by combining 3D printing technology and endodontic intervention in a 10-year-old patient. The bifid crown of a maxillary right lateral incisor #7 had caused esthetic concerns and malocclusion. Clinical and radiographic examinations showed that #7 is fused with a supernumerary tooth with 2 independent root canals. The fusion involved the entire crown and the coronal and middle roots. Because of financial constraints, a multidisciplinary approach involving endodontic, orthodontic, and prosthodontic treatment was excluded. We hemisectioned the tooth intraorally with a 3D-printed guide, extracted the supernumerary tooth, and transplanted tooth #7 to a position with improved esthetics and occlusion. A 3D-printed tooth replica was used to prepare the recipient site for autotransplantation. At the 6-month follow-up, tooth #7 was diagnosed with pulp necrosis and asymptomatic apical periodontitis. Root canal treatment of tooth #7 was completed, and osseous healing was observed 8 months later. The patient had no clinical symptoms and was satisfied with the outcome 14 months after hemisection and transplantation. The open space between teeth #7 and #8 was closed without orthodontic treatment. We present an alternative option to treat a fusion tooth in young patients who do not opt for other treatment options because of their stage of development or for socio-economic reasons. Techniques in modern endodontics, such as cone-beam computed tomographic imaging and 3D printing, should be adapted when it is beneficial to patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autogenous tooth transplantation is a reliable method for repairing missing teeth. Although it recently became a recognized and feasible treatment method in dentistry, the long-term efficacy of root canal therapy (RCT) has not been well confirmed. This study is aimed at determining whether RCT has a good effect on the success rate of teeth with complete roots in autogenous tooth transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were collected from the Korea University Guro Hospital. Data of patients who underwent autogenous tooth transplantation within 9 years were collected. We selected 29 teeth with complete roots as the research subjects in our study. None of the patients had any systemic diseases. All cases in this study were obtained with patient permission. RESULTS According to the tooth vitality test, the autogenous teeth tested negative in dental pulp test and function. Nine of the 29 teeth with autogenous tooth transplantation were treated with RCT and survived throughout the observation period. However, 20 autogenous teeth were not treated with RCT, and eight of them did not survive. All statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 20.0. The null hypothesis was rejected (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION For complete root teeth, the success rate after autogenous tooth transplantation after RCT is higher than that of teeth not treated with RCT.

Abstract
Autogenous tooth transplantation is the surgical movement of tooth from one location in the mouth to another in the same individual. It is an excellent option with good functional and esthetic outcome for rehabilitating young patients with growing alveolar bone and replaces missing tooth with a natural tooth rather than a prosthesis or an osseointegrated implant. This case reports discusses a 9 years follow up of a successful autotransplantation case of third molar in place of first molar justifying autotransplantation to be a viable treatment option in present day implant dentistry practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the success, survival rate, and soft tissue esthetic of autotransplanted teeth. METHODS This study included patients with at least 1 tooth autotransplanted to the maxilla during childhood or adolescence. The autotransplantation technique included the removal of an immature tooth from a donor site and its placement in the maxilla as a replacement for a missing or extremely compromised tooth. The cases were properly restored to ensure function and esthetic. To be considered successful, the tooth should be asymptomatic at the time of assessment, no pain to palpation and percussion, have no signs of apical periodontitis or a sinus tract, have a periodontal probe ≤3, and have an absence of root resorption and development of at least 70% of the normal root. The esthetic evaluation of the soft tissue was based on the pink esthetic score and graded as very unsatisfactory, unsatisfactory, poor, fair, good, or excellent. Data were statistically analyzed at a significance level of 5%. RESULTS Thirty-five patients (23 males and 12 females) had 43 anterior teeth replaced, including 42 central incisors and 1 lateral incisor. The follow-up period ranged from 1-25 years. In regard to success and the survival rate, 43 teeth were assessed; 34 cases (79.07%) were considered successful and 9 (20.93%) unsuccessful. Only 1 tooth was lost, and 42 teeth remained functional (survival rate = 97.67%). In regard to the esthetic, 40 teeth could be assessed and were considered as excellent (30%), good (35%), fair (27.5%), and poor (7.5%); there were no reports of unsatisfactory or very unsatisfactory cases. CONCLUSIONS Tooth autotransplantation can be considered a valid procedure to replace lost teeth in the maxilla, presenting high survival and success rates. The overall esthetic of the patients was considered as satisfactory.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the success rate of simultaneous autotransplantation of the immature impacted third molars with the guidance of computer-aided rapid prototyping (CARP) to the place of mandibular first or second molars with extraction indication due to the untreatable radiographic periapical lesions. PATIENTS AND METHODS Twelve radiographically and clinically hopeless mandibular first or second molars with periapical lesions of 10 patients between the ages of 15 to 21 were included in this retrospective clinical study. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were used to produce the CARP models of the donor impacted third molars. Following the extractions of the mandibular first or second molars with periapical lesions, sockets were curetted and prepared with proper burs until a suitable infraocclusal fit of the CARP models. The donor teeth were transplanted synchronously with their surgical extractions. Postoperatively patients were followed clinically and radiographically in the 3rd and 6th months and every 6th month thereafter for at least 18 months. Clinically, the mobility, periodontal plaque, bleeding on probing, percussion sensitivity, periodontal pocket, vitality, and occlusion, and radiographically, the root resorption, ankylosis, presence of lamina dura, and healing of periapical lesion were assessed. RESULT By the end of 12th month, and thereafter, all transplanted teeth were in occlusion and functioning properly with no clinical or radiological signs of pathology. All of the autotransplantation cases involved in this clinical study were successful within a mean follow-up period of 20.4 months with the least one of 18 months. CONCLUSION Immediate autotransplantation of the immature third molars to the place of mandibular first or second molars with extraction indication due to the periapical lesion can be a proper treatment option for adolescent patients.

Abstract
Background In medicine and dentistry, 3D technology allows the virtual planning and printing of surgical replicas of anatomical structures that can facilitate certain transplant procedures. In dentistry, 3D technology is useful in autogenous tooth transplantation. Case presentation We present a clinical case of an ectopic mandibular second premolar, describing the preoperative planning with dental replicas and the autotransplantation surgery. 3D prints of the surgical replica of the tooth to be transplanted was made using an Objet30 Prime® Printer, PolyJet. Clinical controls performed at 3, 6 and 12 months indicated the satisfactory evolution of the transplanted tooth. Conclusion 3D additive manufacturing technology allows the preparation of a new recipient socket with the aid of a surgical replica of the tooth to be transplanted, thus minimizing handling and extraoral time.

OBJECTIVE To describe a method to fabricate donor tooth replica to assist surgeons in preparation of recipient socket during tooth autotransplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 28 compromised molars in 27 patients were transplanted with third molars using computer-aided rapid prototyping (CARP) technique. Surgery time and extra-alveolar time were documented. Postoperatively, the distance between cervix of transplanted tooth and the alveolar wall was measured. The degree of postoperative pain experienced was assessed with visual analog scale at day 1, 3, and 7. RESULTS From 28 clinical cases, the average extra-alveolar time and surgery time were 2.5 minutes (±1.3) and 44 minutes (±6.8), respectively. Postoperatively, the average distance between cervix of transplanted tooth and the alveolar wall was 0.87 mm (±0.15) at the mesial-cervix, 0.95 mm (±0.17) at the distal-cervix, 0.88 mm (±0.18) at the buccal-cervix, and 0.95 mm (±0.13) at the lingual-cervix. The value of visual analog scale score significantly decreased from day 1 to day 3. CONCLUSIONS CARP is a reliable technique for fabrication of tooth like surgical replicas in conventional autotransplantation. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE CARP technique minimized extra-oral time, reduced iatrogenic damage, and consequently increased the survival rate of tooth autotransplantation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW In this case report, the authors aim to review the standard protocols for endodontic treatment of autotransplanted molars and report on the 5-year follow-up of a clinical transplantation case. CASE DESCRIPTION The authors transplanted a mandibular third molar into the position of the adjacent second molar. The authors performed extraoral apicoectomy and retrograde restoration after atraumatic extraction of the donor tooth and before transplantation. The authors did not perform conventional orthograde root canal treatment after transplantation. The patient was followed up 5 years after the autotransplantation. Results of follow-up radiography showed a regular root surface without evidence of periapical lesions or root resorption. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS If appropriate sterility of the working field is maintained during surgery and a tight apical seal is achieved during the extraoral treatment, orthograde endodontic treatment should be delayed or avoided.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of autotransplantation of mature third molars to fresh molar extraction sockets using 3D replicas. Methods Ten patients underwent teeth autotransplantation with or without GBR. We observed the mobility, percussion, radiography examination, the probing depth and the masticatory function of the transplanted teeth during 2 years following up, which were transplanted into fresh molar sockets by using 3D replicas, and GBR when it is necessary. Results The average extra-oral time of donor tooth had been shortened to 1.65 min when used the 3D replica. Some probing depth of the transplanted tooth were deeper than 3 mm at 4 or 5 weeks temporarily. And one patient felt slight sensitive when chewing with soft food at 4 weeks, then disappeared. The clinical examination of the autotransplantation teeth during 1 year follow-up showed no sign of failure. Conclusions The tooth autotransplantation using 3D replica with or without GBR is an effective method which can reduce the extra-oral time of the donor teeth and may result in less failure.

Abstract
Orthodontic treatment is more complicated when both soft and hard tissues must be considered because an impacted maxillary canine has important effects on function and esthetics. Compared with extraction of impacted maxillary canines, exposure followed by orthodontic traction can improve esthetics and better protect the patient's teeth and alveolar bone. Therefore, in order to achieve desirable tooth movement with minimal unexpected complications, a precise diagnosis is indispensable to establish an effective and efficient force system. In this report, we describe the case of a 31-year-old patient who had a labio-palatal horizontally impacted maxillary left canine with a severe occlusal alveolar bone defect and a missing maxillary left first premolar. Herein, with the aid of three-dimensional imaging, sequential traction was performed with a three-directional force device that finally achieved acceptable occlusion by bringing the horizontally impacted maxillary left canine into alignment. The maxillary left canine had normal gingival contours and was surrounded by a substantial amount of regenerated alveolar bone. The 1-year follow-up stability assessment demonstrated that the esthetic and functional outcomes were successful.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the long-term outcome of autotransplanted maxillary canines and to investigate the influencing parameters. Seventy-one patients (84 transplanted canines) volunteered to participate in this study. The mean follow-up time was 21 years. In case of tooth survival and when patients were found willing for recall, teeth were investigated clinically and radiographically. Transplanted teeth were compared to the contralateral canine and scored with an aesthetic and radiographic index. The survival rate was 67.9%, considering that 27 transplanted teeth were lost before examination. The mean survival time was 15.8 years. Maxillary canine autotransplantation may have a successful outcome up to 21 years after transplantation requiring minimal patient compliance and low financial costs. The survival rate can be considered favorable realizing that autotransplantation is a treatment option in a selected group of cases.

Abstract
Background/Aim Autotransplantation of teeth is a method to restore the missing teeth and computer-aided techniques have been applied in this field. The aim of this study was to describe a novel approach for computer-aided autotransplantation of teeth and to preliminarily assess its feasibility, accuracy, and stability. Methods Eight wisdom teeth with complete root formation of eight adult patients were autotransplanted. Individual replicas of donor teeth with local splints, surgical templates, and arch bars were virtually designed and fabricated using three-dimensional printing, these were then applied in the autotransplantation surgeries. Clinical and radiological outcomes were observed, the extra-alveolar time, success rate, and 1-year survival rate were analyzed, and accuracy and stability of this approach were evaluated. Results The extra-alveolar time of donor teeth were less than 3 min. The average follow-up duration was 2.00 ± 1.06 years. All autotransplanted teeth showed normal masticatory function. Ankylosis was found in one patient, and the overall success rate was 87.5%, whereas the 1-year survival rate was 100%. Linear differences between the designed and the immediate autotransplanted positions at crowns and apexes of the donor teeth were 1.43 ± 0.57 and 1.77 ± 0.67 mm, respectively. Linear differences between immediate and the stable positions at crowns and apexes of the donor teeth were 0.66 ± 0.36 and 0.67 ± 0.48 mm, respectively. Conclusion The present study illustrated the feasibility, clinical satisfied accuracy, and stability of a novel approach for computer-aided autotransplantation of teeth. This new approach facilitated the surgical procedure and might be a viable and predictable method for autotransplantation of teeth.

Abstract
This report presents two cases of tooth autotransplantation using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), the three-dimensional (3D) simulation dental planning software and a computer-aided rapid prototyping (CARP) model. Two hopeless teeth of adult patients were replaced as their third molar teeth. Before deciding the autotransplantation, diagnostic CBCT images were acquired and imported to SimPlant software. The SimPlant dental program was used for surgical simulation prior to autotransplantation, which created 3D images of the available donor teeth and recipient site tooth and superimposed the images to display their morphological similarity. Efficient modification of the recipient socket was designed preoperatively. The CARP model of the donor tooth was prepared as a substitute for the donor tooth that would be fit into the new recipient socket during bone preparation. Autotransplantation was favourably performed in 5-6 min. Transplanted teeth healed up without clinical abnormality. The postoperative follow-up time was up to 6 years.

Abstract
The anterior maxilla is the most prone region to the trauma during childhood, and tooth loss sometimes happens due to trauma. Replacing the missing teeth has always been one of the dentists' challenges in children and adolescents, since their dentofacial growth is not complete. Autotransplantation of mandibular premolars with two-thirds or three-quarters of root formation provides the best prognosis for the tooth survival. This case report describes the management of a 10-year-old boy suffering a severe dental injury who received the autotransplantation of the premolars from mandible to restore the space caused by trauma in maxillary central incisor region and a 13-year follow-up of the autotransplantation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated the clinical and radiographic outcomes of autotransplanted teeth over a follow-up period of 2 to 8 years, and summarize the findings of other relevant studies with regard to the primary factors that influence a good prognosis in such patients. METHODS Twenty-three patients (6 men, 17 women) who attended Tanggu Stomatological Hospital, Tianjin, China, from 2008 through 2013, were included in the study. These patients presented with a variety of dental problems, including tooth loss, residual crowns, missing first or second molars, dental trauma, tooth fracture, and unrestored teeth. A total of 26 third molars, including 2 immature molars, were autotransplanted in these patients. The success rate of autotransplantation was assessed on the basis of clinical and radiographic outcomes after follow-up periods ranging from 2 to 8 years. RESULTS Clinical examination revealed stability of all 26 transplanted teeth, with satisfactory masticatory function and no patient discomfort. Radiographic examination revealed normal periapical tissues and an intact lamina dura surrounding the tooth root, indicating adequate healing of periodontal tissues. CONCLUSIONS Autotransplantation achieved good results in the Chinese sample population investigated, and was associated with an excellent prognosis. Rigorous case selection, adequate protection of the periodontal ligament, and proper oral hygiene contribute significantly to the long-term success of the procedure.

Abstract
Compound odontomas are common odontogenic tumors associated with permanent tooth impaction in the premaxilla. This report describes the case of a 14-year-old girl with an odontoma-associated impaction over the premaxilla that was treated using autotransplantation to satisfy an immediate esthetic demand. At postoperative follow-up conducted in the 14th month, a satisfactory cosmetic appearance with a healthy periodontal status was observed. In addition, the authors discuss the possible complications of autotransplantation and different treatment strategies for odontoma-associated impaction and for correcting bone defects in this case report. Autotransplantation for treating odontoma-associated impaction can be an alternative solution for satisfying an immediate cosmetic demand and providing a favorable outcome.

Abstract
Although autogenous tooth transplantation is a widely reported procedure, its success is dependent on a number of factors. Here we describe the surgical technique, endodontic treatment and rehabilitation employed for a patient in whom a lower right third molar was transplanted to substitute an adjacent second molar with extensive caries. During an 8-year follow-up period, normal periodontal healing was observed and no infection, ankylosis or progressive resorption occurred. It may be concluded that transplantation of a third molar is a practicable approach for replacement of a lost permanent tooth, with restoration of esthetics and function.

Abstract
The report presents examples of successful cases of autotransplantation of ectopic teeth as donor in the treatment of clinically missing maxillary anterior teeth in young patients. The transplanted teeth were either severely ectopic, inverted, rotated or in an unfavourable position that they are commonly sacrificed as a result. Details of surgical technique as well as clinical and radiographic assessments were discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE AND BACKGROUND Although several surgical techniques have been reported, no study has yet reported alternative strategies for endodontic treatment of autogenous transplanted teeth. Therefore, the aim of this clinical report is to present the long-term endodontic outcome of a nonvital autogenously transplanted third molar treated with an Er,Cr:YSGG laser and radial firing tips (RFTs). CASE REPORT Autogenous tooth transplantation can be considered an alternative to restore edentulous areas and, in donor's teeth with complete root formation, root canal treatment should be performed up to 14 days following transplantation. In the present case report, the patient returned only after 6 months, with clinical and radiological signs of apical periodontitis (AP) associated with the transplanted tooth. METHODS Instead of traditional endodontic chemical irrigants or medications, the protocol for smear-layer removal and root canal disinfection was based on intracanal irradiation with an Er,Cr:YSGG laser and RFTs. RESULTS After 3-years' follow-up, the complete reestablishment of the periodontal ligament and the arrest of the resorptive process could be noticed. CONCLUSIONS This protocol has shown to be effective for the endodontic treatment of a transplanted multi-rooted tooth with AP. Further randomized clinical trials should be conducted to clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of this laser-assisted endodontic protocol.
