Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) emerges as a viable oxidant for fuel cells, necessitating the development of an efficient and cost-effective electrocatalyst for the hydrogen peroxide reduction reaction (HPRR). In this study, we synthesized a self-supporting, highly active HPRR electrocatalyst comprising two morphologically distinct components: CeO2-NiCo2O4 nanowires and CeO2-NiCo2O4 metal organic framework derivatives, via a two-step hydrothermal process followed by air calcination. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analysis confirmed the presence of CeO2 and NiCo2O4, revealing the amalgamated interface between them. CeO2 exhibits multifunctionality in regulating the surface electronic configuration of NiCo2O4, fostering synergistic connections, and introducing oxygen deficiencies to enhance the catalytic efficacy in HPRR. Electrochemical measurements demonstrate a reduction current density of 789.9 mA·cm-2 at -0.8 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The assembly of direct borohydride-hydrogen peroxide fuel cell (DBHPFC) exhibits a peak power density of 45.2 mW·cm-2, demonstrating durable stability over a continuous operation period of 120 h. This investigation providing evidence that the fabrication of heterostructured catalysts based on CeO2 for HPRR is a viable approach for the development of high-efficiency electrocatalysts in fuel cell technology.

Abstract
This research explores the synthesis, characterization, and application of Vanadium Pentoxide nanoparticles (V2O5 NPs), focusing on their efficacy in the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes under visible light. Utilizing a co-precipitation method, we synthesized V2O5 NPs characterized by an orthorhombic crystal structure with a consistent average particle size of 28 nm. The optical properties of V2O5 NPs, including their band gap, were thoroughly investigated to understand their light absorption capabilities, which are crucial for photocatalytic activity. In our study, Methyl Violet (MV) dye was employed as a model organic pollutant to assess the photocatalytic performance of the nanoparticles. Under visible light irradiation, the V2O5 nanoparticles demonstrated an exceptional photocatalytic degradation efficiency, achieving up to 85% degradation of the MV dye within 100 min. This high level of efficiency is attributed to the nanoparticles' ability to effectively absorb visible light and generate electron-hole pairs, thereby facilitating a robust degradation process. Further analysis revealed that the photocatalytic activity led to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide and hydroxyl radicals, which are integral to the dye degradation mechanism. These ROS play a critical role in breaking down the dye molecules, significantly contributing to the overall effectiveness of the photocatalytic process. The results of this study highlight the potential of V2O5 nanoparticles as a sustainable and effective photocatalytic material for environmental remediation applications, particularly in the treatment of wastewater containing organic dyes. This research not only advances our understanding of the photocatalytic properties of V2O5 nanoparticles but also demonstrates their practical application in addressing environmental pollution through innovative and efficient degradation of hazardous substances.

Abstract
The photocatalytic technique has drawn far-ranging interests in addressing the current issues; however, its property suffers from the limited visible light response and rapid recombination of carriers. To address these issues, two specific approaches have been proposed to enhance the photocatalytic activity: (1) ultrasound-assisted synthesis has been utilized to prepare photocatalysts, resulting in refined grain size, increased specific surface area, and reduced photogenerated carrier recombination; (2) sonophotocatalysis and piezoelectric enhanced photocatalysis have been developed to accelerate the reaction, which utilizes the synergism between ultrasound and light. On one side, sonophotocatalysis generates cavitation bubbles which induce more reactive radicals for redox reactions. On the other side, ultrasound induces deformation of the piezoelectric material structure, which changes the internal piezoelectric potential and improves the photocatalytic performance. Currently, intensive efforts have been devoted to related research and great progress has been reached with applications in pollutant degradation, new energy production, and other fields. This work starts by elucidating the fundamental concept of ultrasound-assisted photocatalyst synthesis and photocatalysis. Then, the synergistic behavior between ultrasonic and light in ultrasonic-assisted photocatalysis has been thoroughly discussed, including pollutant degradation, water splitting, and bacterial sterilization. Finally, the challenge and outlook are investigated and proposed.

Abstract
Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has received much attention due to its unique characteristics of stable physicochemical features, facile preparation, and inexpensive cost. However, the bulk g-C3N4 has a weak capacity for pollutant degradation and needs to be modified for real application. Therefore, extensive research has been done on g-C3N4, and the discovery of the novel zero-dimensional nanomaterials known as carbon quantum dots (CQDs) provided it with a unique modification option. In this review, the development for the removal of organic pollutants by g-C3N4/CQDs was discussed. Firstly, the preparation of g-C3N4/CQDs were introduced. Then, the application and the degradation mechanism of g-C3N4/CQDs were briefly described. And the discussion of the influencing factors on g-C3N4/CQDs' ability to degrade organic pollutants came in third. Finally, the conclusions of photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants by g-C3N4/CQDs and future perspectives followed. This review will strengthen the understanding of the photocatalytic degradation of real organic wastewater by g-C3N4/CQDs, including their preparation, application, mechanism, and influencing factors.

Abstract
Currently, the presence of emerging contaminants in water sources has raised concerns worldwide due to low rates of mineralization, and in some cases, zero levels of degradation through conventional treatment methods. For these reasons, researchers in the field are focused on the use of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) as a powerful tool for the degradation of persistent pollutants. These AOPs are based mainly on the in-situ production of hydroxyl radicals (OH•) generated from an oxidizing agent (H2O2 or O2) in the presence of a catalyst. Among the most studied AOPs, the Fenton reaction stands out due to its operational simplicity and good levels of degradation for a wide range of emerging contaminants. However, it has some limitations such as the storage and handling of H2O2. Therefore, the use of the electro-Fenton (EF) process has been proposed in which H2O2 is generated in situ by the action of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, it is important to mention that the ORR is given by two routes, by two or four electrons, which results in the products of H2O2 and H2O, respectively. For this reason, current efforts seek to increase the selectivity of ORR catalysts toward the 2e− route and thus improve the performance of the EF process. This work reviews catalysts for the Fenton reaction, ORR 2e− catalysts, and presents a short review of some proposed catalysts with bifunctional activity for ORR 2e− and Fenton processes. Finally, the most important factors for electro-Fenton dual catalysts to obtain high catalytic activity in both Fenton and ORR 2e− processes are summarized.

Abstract
The construction of uniformly dispersed structure with abundant active sites is crucial for fast electron transport and advancing electrocatalytic reactions. Herein, FexCoyO4-rGO was prepared by depositing Fe and Co bimetallic oxides in-situ on reduced graphene oxide through a simple process combined hydrothermal reaction and calcination. Fe was elaborately introduced into the synthesis of metal oxides to alleviate the aggregation of cobalt oxides and obtain nanocomposites with homogeneously structured and abundant redox sites, and the bimetallic oxides nanomaterials had enhanced electrocatalysis under the synergistic effect. The flexible electrode prepared from FexCoyO4-rGO exhibited excellent detection performance for glucose with a detection limit down low to 0.07 μM and a sensitivity of 1510 μM cm-2 mA-1. The adoption of flexible substrates improved the wearability of the electrode and broadened its practicality for detecting biomarkers on the skin surface. The constructed sensor was successfully used in the dynamic analysis of glucose content in tears, and the results were highly consistent with the test outcome of a commercial test kit, demonstrating its application prospects in non-invasive epidermal diabetes mellitus diagnosis.

Abstract
Semiconductor-based photocatalyst materials played an important role in the degradation of organic compounds in recent years. Photocatalysis is a simple, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly process for degrading organic compounds. In this work, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and V2O5/RGO (reduced graphene oxide) composite were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis, etc. Raman analysis shows the occurrence of RGO characteristic peaks in the composite and different vibrational modes of V2O5. The band gap of flake-shaped V2O5 is reduced and its light absorption capacity is enhanced by making its composite with RGO. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) was studied using both V2O5 and V2O5/RGO composite photocatalyst materials. The V2O5/RGO composite exhibits a superior photocatalytic performance to V2O5. Both catalyst and light play an important role in the degradation process.

Abstract
Organic water pollutants are ubiquitous in the natural environment arising from domestic products as well as current and legacy industrial processes. Many of these organic water pollutants are recalcitrant and only partially degraded using conventional water and wastewater treatment processes. In recent decades, visible light active photocatalyst has gained attention as a non-conventional alternative for the removal of organic pollutants during water treatment, including industrial wastewater and drinking water treatment. This paper reviews the current state of research on the use of visible light active photocatalysts, their modified methods, efficacy, and pilot-scale applications for the degradation of organic pollutants in water supplies and waste streams. Initially, the general mechanism of the visible light active photocatalyst is evaluated, followed by an overview of the major synthesis techniques. Because few of these photocatalysts are commercialized, particular attention was given to summarizing the different types of visible light active photocatalysts developed to the pilot-scale stage for practical application and commercialization. The organic pollutant degradation ability of these visible light active photocatalysts was found to be considerable and in many cases comparable with existing and commercially available advanced oxidation processes. Finally, this review concludes with a summary of current achievements and challenges as well as possible directions for further research. PRACTITIONER POINTS: Visible light active photocatalysis is a promising advanced oxidation process (AOP) for the reduction of organic water pollutants. Various mechanisms of photocatalysis using visible light active materials are identified and discussed. Many recent photocatalysts are synthesized from renewable materials that are more sustainable for applications in the 21st century. Only a small number of pilot-scale applications exist and these are outlined in this review.

Abstract
Among energy storage devices, supercapacitors have received considerable attention in recent years owing to their high-power density and extended cycle life. Researchers are currently making efforts to improve energy density using different asymmetric cell configurations, which may provide a wider potential window. Many studies have been conducted on positive electrodes for asymmetric supercapacitor devices; however, studies on negative electrodes have been limited. In this study, iron oxides with different morphologies were synthesized at various deposition temperatures using a simple chemical bath deposition method. A nanosphere-like morphology was obtained for α-Fe2O3. The obtained specific capacitance (Cs) of α-Fe2O3 was 2021 F/g at a current density of 4 A/g. The negative electrode showed an excellent capacitance retention of 96% over 5000 CV cycles. The fabricated asymmetric solid-state supercapacitor device based on α-Fe2O3-NF//Co3O4-NF exhibited a Cs of 155 F/g and an energy density of 21 Wh/kg at 4 A/g.

Abstract
In this paper, porous zinc oxide (ZnO) nanosheets were successfully prepared by a simple low-temperature hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) tests showed that the synthesized product was ZnO with porous sheet structure. The diameter of porous nanosheets was about 100 nm and the thickness was about 8 nm. As a photocatalyst, the degradation efficiencies of porous ZnO nanosheets for methyl orange (MO), methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) were 97.5%, 99% and 96.8%, respectively. In addition, the degradation efficiency of ZnO for mixed dyes (Mo, MB and RhB) was satisfactory, reaching 97.7%. The photocatalytic stability of MB was further tested and remained at 99% after 20 cycles. In the experiment, ZnO/FTO (fluorine-doped tin oxide) composites were prepared by using ZnO as the conductive layer. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) was deposited on the surface of ZnO/FTO by electrodeposition, so as to obtain a TiO2/ZnO/FTO composite. By studying the electrochromic properties of this composite, it was found that the TiO2/ZnO/FTO composite shows a large light modulation range (55% at 1000 nm) and excellent cycle stability (96.6% at 200 cycles). The main reason for the excellent electrochromic properties may be the synergistic effect between the porous structure and the polymetallic oxides. This study is helpful to improve the photocatalytic efficiency and cycling stability of metal oxides, improve the transmittance of thin films and provide a new strategy for the preparation of ZnO composite materials with excellent photocatalytic and electrochromic properties.

Abstract
In this study, a TiO2-CNT-Ag ternary composite film was successfully synthesized using the plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method by simultaneously feeding a carbon nanotube (CNT)/Ag suspension and titanium tetraisopropoxide gas. The prepared TiO2-CNT-Ag film was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Moreover, the Ag/Ti ratio of the film was confirmed using an inductivity-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer. The performance of the TiO2-composite film for the degradation of rhodamine 6G under simulated solar light irradiation was evaluated. The rate constant of the prepared TiO2-CNT-Ag for rhodamine 6G degradation was approximately 1.8 times greater than that of prepared TiO2. This result indicates that the addition of CNT and Ag significantly improved the photocatalytic activity of the prepared films.

Degradation of Ibuprofen by the Electro/Fe3+/Peroxydisulfate Process: Reactive Kinetics, Degradation Products and Mechanism. Catalysts 2022. Abstract
Ibuprofen (IBU), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is one of the most widely used and frequently detected pharmaceuticals and personal care products in water bodies. This study examined the IBU degradation in aquatic solutions via ferric ion activated peroxydisulfate (PDS) coupled with electro-oxidation (EC/Fe3+/PDS). The degradation mechanisms involved three synergistic reactions in the EC/Fe3+/PDS system, including: (1) the electro-oxidation; (2) SO4•− generated from the activation of PDS by ferrous ions formed via cathodic reduction; (3) SO4•− generated from the electron transfer reaction. The radical scavenging experiments indicated that SO4•− and •OH dominated the oxidation process. The effects of the applied current density, PDS concentration, Fe3+ dosage, initial IBU concentration and initial pH as well as inorganic anions and humic acid on the degradation efficiency, were studied, and the degradation process of IBU followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. About 99.37% of IBU was removed in 60 min ((Fe3+ concentration) = 2.0 mM, (PDS concentration) = 12 mM, (initial IBU concentration) = 30 mg/L, current density = 15 mA/cm2, initial pH = 3). Finally, seven intermediate compounds were identified and probable IBU degradation pathways in the EC/Fe3+/PDS system were speculated.

Abstract
In this research work, we reported the synthesis of a spherical-shaped bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) photocatalyst using a cost-effective, simple, chemical hydrothermal method and studied the effect of deposition temperatures on the structural, morphological, optical properties, etc. The XRD result confirmed the monoclinic scheelite phase of BiVO4. An XPS study confirmed the occurrence of Bi, V, and O elements and also found that Bi and V exist in +3 and +5 oxidation states, respectively. SEM micrographs revealed the spherical-shaped morphology of the BiVO4 photocatalyst. Optical investigation showed that the bandgap of the BiVO4 photocatalyst varied between 2.25 and 2.32 eV. The as-synthesized BiVO4 photocatalyst was used to study the photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet (CV) dye under visible light illumination. The photocatalytic degradation experiment showed that the degradation percentage of crystal violet dye using BiVO4 reached 98.21% after 120 min. Mineralization of crystal violet dye was studied using a chemical oxygen demand analysis.

Abstract
A sonochemical treatment has been an emerged technique as an interesting method for fabricating different photocatalysts with unique photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties. This study investigated the PEC performance of WO3 with WS2 nanosheets as a 2D material before calcination (WO3/WS2-90) and after calcination (WO3/WS2-450) prepared with sonochemical treatment. The WS2 nanosheets were prepared from a liquid exfoliation phase with few-layer nanosheets, approximately 6.5 nm in thickness. The nanosheets were confirmed by UV-Vis spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Further, XPS, RAMAN, and SEM-EDAX analyses indicated that, following calcination of the WO3/WS2 electrode, the WS2 nanosheets initially transformed to 2D-WO3. After depositing the WS2 nanosheets on the WO3, the photocurrent density increased substantially. The WO3/WS2-450 films after calcination showed a photocurrent density of 5.6 mA.cm-2 at 1.23 V vs. Ag/AgCl, which was 3.1 and 7.2 times higher, respectively than those of the WO3/WS2-90 before calcination and pure WO3. Mott-Schottky and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses confirmed the fabrication of the WO3/WS2 photoanode after calcination. The deposition of WS2 nanosheets onto pure WO3 increased the donor concentration (24-fold), reduced the space charge layer (4.6-fold), and decreased the flat band potential (1.6-fold), which could all help improve the photoelectrochemical efficiency. Moreover, the incorporation of WO3 with WS2 nanosheets as a 2D material (WO3/WS2-450) enhanced the incident photon current efficiency (IPCE) by 55%. In addition, the applied-bias photon-to-current conversion efficiency of the WO3/WS2-450 films was approximately 2.26% at 0.75 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), which is 5.6 and 9 times higher, respectively than those of WO3/WS2-90 and pure WO3.

Abstract
"Two-for-one" strategy is an effective method to construct two kinds of materials from a single precursor owing to the simplicity of fabricating procedure and reduction of manufacturing cost. However, such a strategy has seldom been utilized to produce both battery-type and capacitive electrodes of a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) device. Here, we adopt the "two-for-one" strategy to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) porous iron-doped (Fe-doped) Co3O4 and nitrogen-doped (N-doped) carbon via a single bimetallic metal-organic framework, FeCo-ZIF-67. Fe-doped amounts and carbonization temperature are used to adjust their individual electrochemical behaviors. The optimal 3D porous Fe-doped Co3O4 and N-doped carbon possess a high capacitance of 767.9 and 277C g-1 at 1 A g-1, respectively. Charge storage mechanism of Fe-doped Co3O4 is further investigated via analysis of capacitive and diffusion-controlled contribution. A Fe-doped Co3O4//N-doped carbon HSC device achieves desirable specific energy (37 Wh kg-1) and power (750 Wkg-1), and satisfied cycling stability (90% retention after 4000 cycles). A light-emitting diode (LED) is successfully light by the HSC device, suggesting its potential application in the field of green energy conversion and storage devices.

Abstract
The current research work deals with the preparation of TiO2 and GO/TiO2 composite by simple, chemical, cost effective hydrothermal method. Graphene oxide (GO) is prepared by modified Hummer's method. Dispersion of GO is achieved by an ultrasonic cleaning bath for 1 h. using a power of 200 W and at a frequency of 40 kHz. The prepared catalyst material is characterized by different characterization techniques. XRD study confirms the prepared material is polycrystalline in nature. The synthesized TiO2 and GO/TiO2 photocatalyst materials are used to study the photocatalytic degradation of salicylic acid under sunlight illumination. GO/TiO2 composite shows superior photocatalytic activity than TiO2. GO/TiO2 composite shows 57% degradation of salicylic acid. Mineralization of salicylic acid is studied using chemical oxygen demand.

Abstract
Defective WO3 ultrathin surface-engineered nanosheets are fabricated by a solvothermal and low-temperature surface hydrogenation reduction strategy. The obtained defective WO3 ultrathin nanosheets with thicknesses of ∼4 nm possess a relatively large surface area of ∼25 m2 g-1. After surface engineering, the bandgap is narrowed to ∼2.48 eV due to the presence of surface oxygen vacancies, which further enhance the visible light absorption. The defective WO3 ultrathin nanosheets exhibit excellent solar-driven photocatalytic degradation performance for the complete degradation of the highly-toxic metribuzin herbicide (∼100%). The first-order rate constant (k) of the defective WO3 ultrathin nanosheets is ∼3 times higher than that of the pristine one. This can be ascribed to the formation of suitable surface-oxygen vacancy defects that promote the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and the two-dimensional ultrathin structure facilitating the surface engineering as well as furnishing a large number of surface active sites. Moreover, the defective WO3 ultrathin nanosheets exhibit high stability because the photocatalytic activity remains almost unchanged after 10 cycles, making them favorable for practical applications. This work offers new insights into the fabrication of other high-performance ultrathin nanosheet oxide photocatalysts for environmental applications.
