Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to explore the impact of the peer education model on adolescents' knowledge levels regarding Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV vaccination. DESIGN AND METHODS The study was conducted quasi-experimentally in a pretest-posttest single-group design. The study sample consisted of 913 students enrolled in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. The data of the study were collected between April and May 2023. Data were collected using the Demographic Information Form and the Human Papillomavirus Knowledge Scale (HPV-KS). RESULTS It was determined that 8.8 % of the students had previously received information about HPV, of which 50 % had received this information through the media, and only 0.3 % of them had received the HPV vaccine. Before peer education, the mean HPV-KS score among students was 1.14 ± 3.54, while after peer education, the mean score increased to 23.78 ± 8.32, and this difference was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.005). Thus, it has been observed that the peer education model effectively enhances the knowledge level regarding HPV and the HPV vaccine among high school students. CONCLUSIONS The use of this model will help young people take healthy steps regarding risky sexual health. Moreover, it is recommended that nurses utilize the peer education model to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and enhance knowledge on various health-related topics among adolescents, who constitute a significant at-risk group. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS It is recommended that nurses utilize the peer education model to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and enhance knowledge on various health-related topics among adolescents, who constitute a significant at-risk group.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vascular access is the most common invasive procedure performed in health care. This fundamental procedure must be performed in a safe and effective manner. Vascular access devices (VADs) are often the source of infections and other complications, yet there is a lack of clear guidance on VADs for health providers across different settings. A Best Practice Guideline (BPG) was developed by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) to provide evidence-based recommendations on the assessment and management of VADs. METHODS RNAO BPGs are based on systematic reviews of the literature following the GRADE approach. Experts on the topic of vascular access were selected to form a panel. Systematic reviews were conducted on six research areas: education, vascular access specialists, blood draws, daily review of peripheral VADs, visualization technologies, and pain management. A search for relevant research studies published in English limited to January 2013 was applied to eight databases. All studies were independently assessed for eligibility and risk of bias by two reviewers based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The GRADE approach was used to determine certainty of the evidence. RESULTS Over 65,000 articles were screened related to the six priority research questions. Of these, 876 full-text publications were examined for relevance, with 174 articles designated to inform nine recommendations in the BPG on the subject areas of: comprehensive health teaching, practical education for health providers, blood draws, daily review of peripheral VADs, visualization technologies, and pain management. In June 2021, the RNAO published the BPG on vascular access, which included the recommendations and other supporting resources. CONCLUSION The vascular access BPG provides high quality guidance and updated recommendations, and can serve as a primary resource for health providers assessing and managing VADs.

Abstract
In the acute phase, burn patients undergo several painful procedures. Pediatric burn care procedures conducted in hydrotherapy have been known to generate severe pain intensity and moderate to high levels of anxiety. Hydrotherapy treatments are done with the use of opioids and benzodiazepines for pain and anxiety. Unfortunately, nonpharmacological methods are rarely combined with pharmacological treatments despite evidence showing that distraction can serve as an effective method for pain management and can potentially decrease analgesic requirements in other painful medical procedures. Virtual reality (VR) is a method that uses distraction to interact within a virtual environment. The use of VR is promising for pain reduction in varying settings. Considering the lack of optimal pain and anxiety management during burn wound care and the positive effect of an immersive distraction for painful procedures, using VR for burn wound care procedures may show promising results. This is a within-subject randomized controlled trial design in which each participant will serve as his/her own control. A minimum of 20 participants, aged 7 to 17 years old undergoing a burn care session, will receive both standard and experimental treatments during the same session in a randomized order. The experimental treatment will consist of combining VR distraction using the video game Dreamland® to the current standard pharmacological care as per unit protocol. The control group will only receive the unit's standard pharmacological care. The mean difference in both pain intensity scores and in anxiety between the two different sequences will be the primary outcomes of this study. This study evaluates the effect of VR on burn wound care. If results from this study show a positive effect of VR compared to standard care, this protocol may provide guidance on how to implement this type of immersive care as part of the tools available for distraction of painful procedures for acute burn victims.

Abstract
Purpose To examine how research was conducted on non-pharmacological management in children with vaccine-related pain in the healthcare setting, so as to provide reference for the relief of vaccine-related pain in children. Methods This study conducted a scoping review guided by the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley. MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CINAHL, PubMed databases were searched in detail, and search strategy included the keyword "vaccine", the keyword "pain", and the keyword "children". Two researchers conducted literature screening and data extraction independently, and any disagreements were resolved through team consultation. Results This study retrieved 1017 literatures, of which 22 were finally included, including 18 randomized controlled studies, 3 quasi-experimental studies and 1 cohort study. Non-pharmacological management measures were summarized in the study, mainly involving taste, tactile, olfactory, visual, exercise, and postural interventions and injection technique. All the above non-pharmacological management were effective in mitigating vaccine-related pain in children. The study population in the included literatures was mainly neonates and infants. Regarding the analgesic effects of taste intervention, breastfeeding was better than sweeteners, and sweeteners were better than sterile water or non-nutritive sucking. However, there was a lack of comparative studies on the analgesic effects of other non-pharmacological management. Conclusion There are many non-pharmacological management measures with varying analgesic effects. Diversified non-pharmacological management measures can provide more analgesic choices for children. For reducing vaccine-related pain in newborns and infants, breastfeeding is recommended first, then sweeteners, and then non-nutritious sucking. In addition to the taste intervention, the analgesic effects of other non-pharmacological management measures need further comparative studies. Moreover, medical staff can use a combination of non-pharmacological analgesic measures to maximize the analgesic effect, and medical staff should also fully consider the analgesia willingness of children and parents.

Abstract
Background It is known that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures generate fear and anxiety. Children may become restless during scanning, which results in movement artifacts requiring the MRI procedure to be repeated with sedation. Few studies seem to have looked at the effect of immersive virtual reality (IVR) on anxiety in children scheduled for MRI scans and how to identify which children are more responsive. Objective The aims of this study are 3-fold: develop an algorithm of predictability based on biofeedback, address feasibility and acceptability of preprocedural IVR game preparation for anxiety management during MRI procedures, and examine the efficacy of IVR game preparation compared with usual care for the management of procedural anxiety during MRI scans. Methods This study will have 2 phases. We will first conduct a field test with 10 participants aged 7 to 17 years to develop a predictive algorithm for biofeedback solution and to address the feasibility and acceptability of the research. After the field test, a randomized controlled trial will be completed using a parallel design with 2 groups: an experimental group (preprocedural IVR game preparation) and a usual care group (standard care as per the radiology department’s protocol) in an equal ratio of 49 participants per group for 98 participants. Recruitment will be carried out at a hospital in Quebec, Canada. The experimental group will receive a preprocedural IVR game preparation (IMAGINE) that offers an immersive simulation of the MRI scan. Participants will complete a questionnaire to assess the acceptability, feasibility, and incidence of side effects related to the intervention and the biofeedback device. Data collected will include sociodemographic and clinical characteristics as well as measures of procedure-related anxiety with the French-Canadian version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (score 1-3) and the Children’s Fear Scale (score 0-4). Physiological signs will be noted and include heart rate, skin conductance, hand temperature, and muscle tension. Measures of the level of satisfaction of health care professionals, parents, and participants will also be collected. Analyses will be carried out according to the intention-to-treat principle, with a Cronbach α significance level of .05. Results As of May 10, 2022, no participant was enrolled in the clinical trial. The data collection time frame is projected to be between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023. Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications. Conclusions Our study provides an alternative method for anxiety management to better prepare patients for an awake MRI procedure. The biofeedback will help predict which children are more responsive to this type of intervention. This study will guide future medical practice by providing evidence-based knowledge on a nonpharmacological therapeutic modality for anxiety management in children scheduled for an MRI scan. Abstract
Introduction: Exercise holds the potential to be beneficial if used during vaccination processes by 1)exercise-induced analgesia to reduce pain associated with vaccination, 2)immune-enhancing effects, improving antibody responses to the vaccine, and 3)reducing local and systemic adverse reactions to the vaccine. This study examines whether analgesic responses could be enhanced locally in the exercising limb to further benefit the use of exercise during influenza vaccination processes to minimize vaccine-related pain and improve antibody response to inactivated influenza vaccines.Methods: 57 participants (22.6 ± 3.2 years, 33 females) randomized into a control (n = 19) or one of two exercise groups: pre-vaccine arm (n = 19) or pre-vaccine leg (n = 19). Intervention groups performed exercise (15 minutes), prior to administration of the vaccine. Vaccine-related pain and pressure pain threshold (PPT) were measured at baseline and post-vaccination for all groups. Blood samples were taken on the day of vaccination and one month later to measure serum antibody titers to influenza.Results: No significant difference in vaccine-related pain or change in PPT was found with exercise, however, there was a trend in higher reports of vaccine-related pain in females compared to males(p = .06). Significantly higher fold increase (p = .02) of the B/Brisbane/60/2008 strain was found in the exercise group compared to the control group.Conclusion: The current study failed to observe an analgesic effect of exercise to improve vaccine-related pain in young adults. However, immune-enhancing effects in one of four strains suggest potential adjuvant effects of exercise. Importantly, the sex difference in pain sensitivity suggests the need for separate analysis, especially when examining pain perception.Australian New Zealand Clinical Trial Registry (ACTRN:12617000374369).

Abstract
Minor reactions are often experienced following the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and negative vaccination experiences may discourage individuals from seeking future vaccinations. Ambient temperature is suggested to be linked to reaction rates. Optimising immunisation programs requires understanding associations of temperature and reactions. To investigate a potential association between temperature and reactions, logistic regressions were performed on data obtained for a two-year period from a vaccine safety monitoring system for children (ages 10–15 years) who received the HPV vaccination (n = 20466) and from publicly available meteorological records in Australia. Reaction rate was 8.3% overall and higher with concomitant vaccination versus HPV alone (9.3% vs 7.8%, p=<0.001). Logistic regression found no relationship between reactions and maximal temperature on the day of vaccination (p = 0.581); controlling for concomitant vaccination, age and gender did not alter the temperature-reaction relationship (p = 0.851) but did identify concomitant vaccination as a significant predictor. Our results suggest immunisation programs must weigh the advantages of improved vaccination coverage resulting from concomitant vaccination against an increase in reaction rates and, importantly, can be safely administered across a range of temperatures.

Abstract
AIMS To examine the efficacy of an immersive virtual reality distraction compared with an active non-immersive distraction, such as video games on a tablet, for pain and anxiety management and memory of pain and anxiety in children requiring percutaneous bone pins and/or suture removal procedures. DESIGN Three-centre randomized clinical trial using a parallel design with two groups: experimental and control. METHODS Study to take place in the orthopaedic department of three children hospital of the Montreal region starting in 2019. Children, from 7-17 years old, requiring bone pins and/or suture removal procedures will be recruited. The intervention group (N = 94) will receive a virtual reality game (Dreamland), whereas the control group (N = 94) will receive a tablet with video games. The primary outcomes will be both the mean self-reported pain score measured by the Numerical Rating Scale and mean anxiety score, measured by the Child Fear Scale. Recalls of pain and anxiety will be measured 1 week after the procedure using the same scales. We aim to recruit 188 children to achieve a power of 80% with a significance level (alpha) of 5%. DISCUSSION While multiple pharmacological methods have previously been tested for children, no studies have evaluated the impact of immersive virtual reality distraction for pain and anxiety management in the orthopaedic setting. IMPACT Improved pain management can be achieved using virtual reality during medical procedures for children. This method is innovative, non-pharmacological, adapted to the hospital setting, and user-friendly. TRIAL REGISTRATION NCT03680625, registered on clinicaltrials.gov.

Abstract
Background: Our understanding about knowledge, attitudes and perceptions (KAP) of immigrants regarding human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is poor. We present the first systematic review on KAP of immigrant parents towards HPV vaccine offered to their children. Methods: Major bio-medical databases (Medline, Embase, Scopus and PsycINFO) were searched using a combination of keyword and database-specific terms. Following identification of studies, data were extracted, checked for accuracy, and synthesised. Quality of the studies was assessed using the Newcastle Ottawa Scale and the Joanna Briggs Institute Qualitative Assessment tool. Results: A total of 311 titles were screened against eligibility criteria; after excluding 292 titles/full texts, 19 studies were included. The included studies contained data on 2206 adults. Participants’ knowledge was explored in 16 studies and ranged from none to limited knowledge. Attitudes about HPV vaccination were assessed in 13 studies and were mixed: four reported negative attitudes fearing it would encourage sexual activity; however, this attitude often changed once parents were given vaccine information. Perceptions were reported in 10 studies; most had misconceptions and concerns regarding HPV vaccination mostly influenced by cultural values. Conclusion: The knowledge of HPV-related diseases and its vaccine among immigrant parents in this study was generally low and often had negative attitude or perception. A well-designed HPV vaccine health educational program on safety and efficacy of HPV vaccination targeting immigrant parents is recommended.

Abstract
Acute exercise is known to enhance less immunogenic response immunogenic antigens. In a 3-dose HPV vaccine series, exercise did not change antibody titers. Potential effects of exercise during first dose in series yet to be examined.

The effect of exercise on local and systemic adverse reactions after vaccinations - Outcomes of two randomized controlled trials. Vaccine 2018; 36:6995-7002. Abstract
INTRODUCTION An adverse reaction associated with vaccination is considered to be a key barrier to vaccinate, yet little attention has been given to interventions to reduce their occurrence. Exercise is a behavioural adjuvant which may also influence adverse reactions. Here, two randomized controlled trials are reported, examining the effects of exercise on self-reported adverse reactions following vaccination in adolescents and young adults. METHODS Study one; 116 adolescents receiving the HPV vaccine were randomly allocated to either Control (n = 56) or Pre-vaccine Exercise (n = 60) group (2015-2016). Exercise consisted of 15-minutes upper body exercise. Study two; 78 young adults receiving the influenza vaccine were randomly allocated to either Control (n = 19), or one of 3 exercise groups: Pre-vaccine Arm (n = 19), Pre-vaccine Leg (n = 20) or Post-vaccine Arm (n = 20) (2017). Exercise included 15-minutes of arm or leg exercises prior to or after vaccination. All participants in both studies completed an adverse events diary for seven-days post-vaccination. RESULTS Study one; Reported days of tenderness in female adolescents that exercised were significantly lower than control (p = 0.032), with a similar trend in reported days of pain (p = 0.050). Furthermore, days of feeling ill (p = 0.070) and reduced appetite (p = 0.067) were found to be lower with exercise, although not significant. Overall, female adolescents reported significantly more days of pain (p = 0.003), tenderness (p < 0.001), swelling (p = 0.011), and feeling ill (p = 0.0040). Study two; Exercise groups reported reduced days of swelling (p = 0.018), fever (p = 0.013), and lowered appetite (p = 0.011) across both genders. Furthermore, females reported reduced days of medication use with exercise (p = 0.034), and a trend toward reduced days of swelling (p = 0.052). DISCUSSION In two separate trials, a short bout of exercise reduced reported adverse reactions after vaccinations for local and systemic adverse reactions. Gender differences in reported local and systemic adverse reactions were more evident among adolescents than young adults. These findings support the need for further work to examine the potential benefit of exercise in improving vaccination procedures.
