Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of upper limb peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) in adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) undergoing prone positioning. METHODS This systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) reporting guidelines. Four electronic databases including PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), The Cochrane Library, and EMBASE were searched from inception to January 2024. The quality of the included studies was evaluated according to the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tools. A proportion meta-analysis was conducted to examine the combined prevalence of upper limb PNI among patients requiring prone positioning. RESULTS A total of 8 studies (511 patients) were pooled in the quantitative analysis. All studies had a low or moderate risk of bias in methodological quality. The overall proportion of patients with upper limb PNI was 13% (95%CI: 5% to 29%), with large between-study heterogeneity (I2 = 84.6%, P<0.001). Both ulnar neuropathy and brachial plexopathy were described in 4 studies. CONCLUSION During the COVID-19 pandemic, prone positioning has been used extensively. Different approaches among ICU teams and selective reporting by untrained staff may be a factor in interpreting the large variability between studies and the 13% proportion of patients with upper limb PNI found in the present meta-analysis. Therefore, it is paramount to stress the importance of patient assessment both after discharge from the ICU and during subsequent follow-up evaluations. IMPLICATIONS FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE Specialized training is essential to ensure safe prone positioning, with careful consideration given to arms and head placement to mitigate potential nerve injuries. Therefore, healthcare protocols should incorporate preventive strategies, with patient assessments conducted by expert multidisciplinary teams.

Abstract
Recent research has brought renewed attention to the multifaceted physical and cognitive dysfunction that accompanies acute respiratory failure (ARF). This state-of-the-art review provides an overview of the evidence landscape encompassing ARF-associated neuromuscular and neurocognitive impairments. Risk factors, mechanisms, assessment tools, rehabilitation strategies, approaches to ventilator liberation, and interventions to minimize post-intensive care syndrome are emphasized. The complex interrelationship between physical disability, cognitive dysfunction, and long-term patient-centered outcomes is explored. This review highlights the need for comprehensive, multidisciplinary approaches to mitigate morbidity and accelerate recovery.

Abstract
In patients with COVID-19 different methods improving therapy have been used, including one of the anatomical position-prone position, to support ventilation. The aim of this review was to summarize the cases of brachial plexopathy as a consequence of the prone position in COVID-19 patients, and thus bring closer the issue of the brachial plexus in the face of clinical aspects of its function, palsy, and consequences. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses statement was followed, inclusion criteria were created according to Patients, Interventions, Comparisons, Outcomes (PICO). PubMed and Scopus were searched until April 1, 2023 by entering the key term with Boolean terms. The risk of bias was assessed using JBI's critical appraisal tools. Fifteen papers with 30 patients were included in the review. This study showed that brachial plexopathy after the prone position occurs more often among males, who are at least 50 years old with comorbidities like hypertension, overweight, and diabetes mellitus. The most common symptoms were weakness, pain, and motion deficits. Duration of the prone position session and the number of episodes were different as well as the modification of positioning. Brachial plexopathy is a significant problem during prone position, especially when hospitalization is prolonged, patients are males, have comorbidities, and changes in body weight. Attention should be drawn to understand the anatomy of the brachial plexus, correct positioning, avoiding factors worsening the prognosis, and proper nutrition of the patients.

Abstract
Multiple manifestations have been associated with the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. Among them are mononeuritis multiplex (MNM) and other neurological complications, whose connection to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is still unclear. One of the most common sites of nerve injury is the radial nerve, which can be treated with both nerve or tendon transfer. In this case report, a patient who was afflicted with severe COVID-19 infection and developed mono neuritis multiplex after prolonged mechanical ventilation with radial nerve palsy was treated with multiple tendon transfers. This is a way to use an established mechanism of resolving the manifestations of radial nerve palsy to aid in the recovery of COVID-19-related mononeuritis multiplex.

Abstract
Introduction The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) in older adults increasingly is being discussed in the literature on Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS). Remote digital Assessments for Preclinical AD (RAPAs) are becoming more important in screening for early AD, and should always be available for PACS patients, especially for patients at risk of AD. This systematic review examines the potential for using RAPA to identify impairments in PACS patients, scrutinizes the supporting evidence, and describes the recommendations of experts regarding their use. Methods We conducted a thorough search using the PubMed and Embase databases. Systematic reviews (with or without meta-analysis), narrative reviews, and observational studies that assessed patients with PACS on specific RAPAs were included. The RAPAs that were identified looked for impairments in olfactory, eye-tracking, graphical, speech and language, central auditory, or spatial navigation abilities. The recommendations' final grades were determined by evaluating the strength of the evidence and by having a consensus discussion about the results of the Delphi rounds among an international Delphi consensus panel called IMPACT, sponsored by the French National Research Agency. The consensus panel included 11 international experts from France, Switzerland, and Canada. Results Based on the available evidence, olfaction is the most long-lasting impairment found in PACS patients. However, while olfaction is the most prevalent impairment, expert consensus statements recommend that AD olfactory screening should not be used on patients with a history of PACS at this point in time. Experts recommend that olfactory screenings can only be recommended once those under study have reported full recovery. This is particularly important for the deployment of the olfactory identification subdimension. The expert assessment that more long-term studies are needed after a period of full recovery, suggests that this consensus statement requires an update in a few years. Conclusion Based on available evidence, olfaction could be long-lasting in PACS patients. However, according to expert consensus statements, AD olfactory screening is not recommended for patients with a history of PACS until complete recovery has been confirmed in the literature, particularly for the identification sub-dimension. This consensus statement may require an update in a few years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected all countries' health systems and people's lifestyles. In this study, we aimed to investigate its effects in a university hospital neurosurgery clinic. METHODS The 2019 year's 6 months' data as a prepandemic period compared to the 2020 year's same period as a pandemic date. Demographic data were collected. Operations were divided into seven groups: tumor, spinal, vascular, cerebrospinal fluid disorders, hematoma, local, and minor surgery, respectively. We classified the hematoma cluster into subgroups to evaluate the etiology: epidural, acute subdural, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, depressed skull fractures, and others. Patients' COVID-19 test results were collected. RESULTS Total operations decreased from 972 to 795 (Δ18.2%) during the pandemic. All groups, except minor surgery cases, decreased compared to the prepandemic period. Also, vascular procedures for females increased during the pandemic period. While focusing on the hematoma subgroups, there was decreasing in epidural and subdural hematomas, depressed skull fractures, and total case numbers; an increase in subarachnoid hemorrhage and intracerebral hemorrhage. Overall mortality significantly increased to 9.6% from 6.8% during the pandemic (P = 0.033). Eight (1.0%) of 795 patients were COVID-19-positive; three of them died. Neurosurgery residents and academicians were unsatisfied with decreased number of operations, training, and research productivity. CONCLUSIONS The pandemic and restrictions affected negatively the health system and people's access to healthcare. Our retrospective observational study aimed to evaluate these effects and take lessons for the next similar situations. People's access to health care should be considered when lockdown restrictions.
