Abstract
Study objective To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of EtCO2 monitoring during in-hospital cardiorespiratory arrest (CA) care outside the intensive care unit (ICU) and emergency room department. Design We performed a cost-effectiveness analysis based on a simple decision model cost analysis and reported the study using the CHEERS checklist. Model inputs were derived from a retrospective Brazilian cohort study, complemented by information obtained through a literature review. Cost inputs were gathered from both literature sources and contacts with hospital suppliers. Setting The analysis was carried out from the perspective of a tertiary referral hospital in a middle-income country. Participants The study population comprised individuals experiencing in-hospital CA who received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by rapid response team (RRT) in a hospital ward, not in the ICU or emergency room department. Interventions Two strategies were assumed for comparison: one with an RRT delivering care without capnography during CPR and the other guiding CPR according to the EtCO2 waveform. Main outcome measures Incremental cost-effectiveness rate (ICER) to return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), hospital discharge, and hospital discharge with good neurological outcomes. Results The ICER for EtCO2 monitoring during CPR, resulting in an absolute increase of one more case with ROSC, hospital discharge, and hospital discharge with good neurological outcome, was calculated at Int$ 515.78 (361.57-1201.12), Int$ 165.74 (119.29-248.4), and Int$ 240.55, respectively. Conclusion In managing in-hospital CA in the hospital ward, incorporating EtCO2 monitoring is likely a cost-effective measure within the context of a middle-income country hospital with an RRT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Hospital-related indicators are used to prioritise, benchmark and monitor certain healthcare components to improve quality. This study aimed to determine the hospital admissions profile in England and Wales between 1999 and 2019. DESIGN Ecological study. SETTING A population-based study of hospitalised patients in England and Wales. PARTICIPANTS All patients of all ages and genders who were hospitalised in National Health Service (NHS) hospitals and NHS-funded independent sector hospitals. OUTCOME MEASURE Hospital admission rates in England and Wales related to various diseases/causes, which were identified using the diagnostic codes (A00-Z99). RESULTS There was a 48.5% rise in hospital admission rates from 246 366.7 (95% CI 246 249.8 to 246 483.7) in 1999 to 365 858.7 (95% CI 365 736.3 to 365 981.2) in 2019 per million persons (p<0.05). The most common causes of hospital admissions were diseases of the digestive system; symptoms, signs, and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings; and neoplasms, which accounted for 11.5%, 11.4% and 10.5%, respectively. The age range of 15-59 years accounted for 43.4% of all hospital admissions. Around 56.0% of all hospital admissions were by female patients. In comparison to 1999, the hospital admission rate for males grew by 53.7%, from 218 363.7 (95% CI 218 203.2 to 218 524.3) to 335 618.9 (95% CI 335 448.1 to 335 789.6) per million persons in 2019. When compared with 1999, the hospital admission rate for females increased by 44.7%, rising from 273 032.5 (95% CI 272 863.5 to 273 201.5) to 395 154.6 (95% CI 394 979.9 to 395 329.4) per million persons. CONCLUSION A notable increase was observed in the rate of hospital admissions for all causes in England and Wales. Elderly age and female gender were significant factors that influenced the rate of hospital admissions. Future research is required to identify preventable risk factors for hospital admission.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the context of climate change, it has been well observed that short-term temperature variability (TV) could increase the overall and cause-specific mortality and morbidity. However, the association between long-term TV and a broader spectrum of diseases is not yet well understood, especially in the elderly. METHODS Our study used data from the fourth Urban and Rural Elderly Population (UREP) study. Long-term TV was calculated from the standard deviation (SD) of daily minimum and maximum temperatures within the study periods (2010-2014, 2011-2014, 2012-2014, 2013-2014, and 2014). Ten self-reported diseases and conditions were collected by questionnaire, including cataract, hypertension, diabetes, cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, stomach diseases, arthritis, chronic lung disease, asthma, cancer, and reproductive diseases. The province-stratified logistic regression model was used to quantify the association between long-term TV and the prevalence of each disease. RESULTS A total of 184,047 participants were included in our study. In general, there were significant associations between TV and the prevalence of most diseases at the national level. Cardio-cerebrovascular disease (OR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.13, 1.20) generated the highest estimates, followed by stomach diseases (OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.10, 1.19), asthma (OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.06, 1.22), chronic lung diseases (OR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.13), arthritis (OR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.05, 1.11), and cataract (OR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.10). Moreover, the associations varied by geographical regions and across subgroups stratified by sex, household income, physical activity, and education. CONCLUSIONS Our study showed that long-term exposure to TV was associated with the prevalence of main diseases in the elderly. More attention should be paid to the elderly and targeted strategies should be implemented, such as an early warning system.

Abstract
Accurate estimates of the causal effect of air pollution on health outcomes, are critical when calculating attributable disease burdens. Brazil has a large population exposed to fast-growing emissions of air pollutants, however no national level studies have been conducted to examine the causal effect of PM2.5 exposure on health outcomes. This study proposes a novel approach, to accurately estimate the causal relationship between daily PM2.5 exposure and hospitalisations, across 1,814 Brazilian cities during 2000-2015. A variant of the difference-in-differences (DID) approach was applied under a counterfactual framework. Daily time series data were divided into panels. Seasonality and long-term trend were controlled using indicators for the panel. Variables which do not change within a short-period were controlled using a dummy variable for the day. Controls for variables which vary day by day, were included in the model. We found the proposed model exhibited competitive power performance in detecting causal associations between short-term PM2.5 exposure and hospitalisations in Brazil. A 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 concentrations over four days (lag 0-3) was associated with a 1.06 % (95 % CI: 0.94 to 1.17) increase in all-cause hospitalisations and accounted for 1.26 % (95 % CI: 1.12-1.39) of total hospitalisations. Larger effects were found for children aged 0-4 years and the elderly aged 80+ years, suggesting policies should be developed to minimise the exposure of these age groups.

The effects of an innovative integrated care intervention in Brazil on local health service use by dependent older people. BMC Health Serv Res 2022; 22:176. Abstract
BACKGROUND Since 2011, the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte has been operating an innovative scheme to support care-dependent older people in disadvantaged communities: Programa Maior Cuidado (PMC - Older Person's Care Program). This paper examines two potential associations between inclusion in PMC on types of outpatient health service utilization by dependent older people. The first is that being in PMC is associated with a higher frequency of outpatient visits for physical rehabilitation. The second is that being in PMC is associated with a higher frequency of planned versus unplanned outpatient visits. METHODS We apply a quasi-experimental design to a unique set of health administrative data recording visits to outpatient health services. We focus on comparisons of the universe of visits, transformed to ratios of planned/unplanned visits and rehabilitation/other reasons for visiting the outpatient service. First, we preprocess our sample through different matching techniques such as 'coarsened exact matching' (CEM), 'nearest neighbor' based on logit scores (NN), 'optimal pair' (OP) and 'optimal full' (OF) methods. Second, we estimate marginal effects of being in PMC on our outcomes of interest. We use Poisson regressions controlling for individual and community factors and use robust standard errors. Our results are presented as the comparative incidence ratio of PMC on rehabilitation and planned visits. RESULTS We find significant positive incidence rates for belonging to PMC for both outcomes of interest under all matching specifications. Poisson models using CEM shows a higher incidence rate for planned visits in comparison to unplanned visits, 1.3 (95% CI 1.1-1.4), by PMC patients compared to the non-PMC controls, and a higher proportion of visits for rehabilitation, 3.4 (95% CI 1.7-6.8). Similar positive results are found across other matching methods and models. CONCLUSIONS Our analysis reveals significant positive associations between older people included in PMC and a matched set of controls for a greater ratio of making outpatient visits that were planned, rather than unplanned. We find similar associations for the proportion of visits made for rehabilitation, as opposed to other reasons. These findings indicate that PMC influences some elements of outpatient health service utilization by dependent older people.

Abstract
Background Climate change is increasing the risks of injuries, diseases, and deaths globally. However, the association between ambient temperature and renal diseases has not been fully characterized. This study aimed to quantify the risk and attributable burden for hospitalizations of renal diseases related to ambient temperature. Methods Daily hospital admission data from 1816 cities in Brazil were collected during 2000 and 2015. A time-stratified case-crossover design was applied to evaluate the association between temperature and renal diseases. Relative risks (RRs), attributable fractions (AFs), and their confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the associations and attributable burden. Findings A total of 2,726,886 hospitalizations for renal diseases were recorded during the study period. For every 1°C increase in daily mean temperature, the estimated risk of hospitalization for renal diseases over lag 0-7 days increased by 0·9% (RR = 1·009, 95% CI: 1·008-1·010) at the national level. The associations between temperature and renal diseases were largest at lag 0 days but remained for lag 1-2 days. The risk was more prominent in females, children aged 0-4 years, and the elderly ≥ 80 years. 7·4% (95% CI: 5·2-9·6%) of hospitalizations for renal diseases could be attributable to the increase of temperature, equating to 202,093 (95% CI: 141,554-260,594) cases. Interpretation This nationwide study provides robust evidence that more policies should be developed to prevent heat-related hospitalizations and mitigate climate change. Abstract
Bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance have become a global healthcare crisis. Herein, we designed and synthesized a series of cationic amphiphilic dendrons with cationic dendrons and hydrophobic alkyl chains for potential antibacterial applications. Our results showed that the antimicrobial activities of the cationic amphiphilic dendrons were highly dependent upon the length of the hydrophobic alkyl chain, whereas the number of cationic charges was less important. Among these cationic amphiphilic dendrons, a prime candidate was identified, which possessed excellent antimicrobial activity against various pathogens (minimum inhibitory concentrations of 9, 3, and 3 μg mL-1 for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, respectively). Scanning electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy analyses showed that it could disrupt the integrity of a pathogen's membrane, leading to cell lysis and death. In addition, in vitro bacteria-killing kinetics showed that it had rapid bactericidal efficiency. It also had excellent antimicrobial activities against MRSA in vivo and promoted wound healing. In general, the synthesized cationic amphiphilic dendrons, which exhibited rapid and broad-spectrum bactericidal activity, may have great potential in antimicrobial applications.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The aim of this study is to examine trends from 2016 to 2019 in the incidence of hospitalizations and in-hospital mortality (IHM) of subjects < 18 years with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), assessing possible sex differences. We used Spanish national hospital discharge data to select all patients < 18 years with CAP. We identified 43,511 children (53% boys) hospitalized with CAP. The incidence of CAP was significantly higher in boys than in girls, with an age-adjusted incidence rate ratio of 1.05 (95%CI 1.03-1.07) for boys compared to girls, and rose from 126 per 100,000 children in 2016 to 131 in 2019 (p < 0.0001). There were no sex differences in isolated pathogens, comorbidities, length of hospital stay, or IHM. Variables independently associated with IHM were age 10 to 17 years, congenital heart disease, neurological diseases, and use of invasive mechanical ventilation. Asthma was a protective factor for IHM among girls. CONCLUSION The incidence of hospital admissions for CAP was higher among boys than among girls and rose significantly from 2016 to 2019. There were no sex differences in hospital outcomes. Age 10 to 17 years, congenital heart disease, neurological diseases, and use of mechanical ventilation were risk factors for IHM in both sexes, while asthma was a protective factor among girls. No differences were found in IHM over time. WHAT IS KNOWN • Community-acquired pneumonia is one of the most common reasons for hospitalizations among children. • There are few studies that allow to know the evolution of community-acquired pneumonia in children. WHAT IS NEW • Incidence of hospital admissions for community-acquired pneumonia was higher in boys than girls and it rose significantly from 2016 to 2019. • Age 10 to 17 years, congenital heart disease, neurological diseases and use of mechanical ventilation were risk factors for in-hospital mortality in both sexes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term exposure to PM2.5 has been linked to cancer incidence and mortality. However, it was unknown whether there was an association with cancer hospitalizations. METHODS Data on cancer hospitalizations and annual PM2.5 concentrations were collected from 1,814 Brazilian cities during 2002-2015. A difference-in-difference approach with quasi-Poisson regression was applied to examine State-specific associations. The State-specific associations were pooled at a national level using random-effect meta-analyses. PM2.5 attributable burden were estimated for cancer hospitalization admissions, inpatient days and costs. RESULTS We included 5,102,358 cancer hospitalizations (53.8% female). The mean annual concentration of PM2.5 was 7.0 μg/m3 (standard deviation: 4.0 μg/m3). With each 1 μg/m3 increase in two-year-average (current year and previous one year) concentrations of PM2.5, the relative risks (RR) of hospitalization were 1.04 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02 to 1.07) for all-site cancers from 2002 to 2015 without sex and age differences. We estimated that 33.82% (95%CI: 14.97% to 47.84%) of total cancer hospitalizations could be attributed to PM2.5 exposure in Brazil during the study time. For every 100,000 population, 1,190 (95%CI: 527 to 1,836) cancer hospitalizations, 8,191 (95%CI: 3,627 to 11,587) inpatient days and US$788,775 (95%CI: $349,272 to $1,115,825) cost were attributable to PM2.5 exposure. CONCLUSIONS Long-term exposure to ambient PM2.5 was positively associated with hospitalization for many cancer types in Brazil. Inpatient days and cost would be saved if the annual PM2.5 exposure was reduced.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have examined the effects of ambient particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 2.5 μm (PM2.5) on hospital cost and length of hospital stay for respiratory diseases in China. METHODS We estimated ambient air pollution exposure for respiratory cases through inverse distance-weighted averages of air monitoring stations based on their residential address and averaged at the city level. We used generalised additive models to quantify city-specific associations in 11 cities in Shanxi and a meta-analysis to estimate the overall effects. We further estimated respiratory burden attributable to PM2.5 using the standards of WHO (25 µg/m3) and China (75 µg/m3) as reference. RESULTS Each 10 µg/m3 increase in lag03 PM2.5 corresponded to 0.53% (95% CI: 0.33% to 0.73%) increase in respiratory hospitalisation, an increment of 3.75 thousand RMB (95% CI: 1.84 to 5.670) in hospital cost and 4.13 days (95% CI: 2.51 to 5.75) in length of hospital stay. About 9.7 thousand respiratory hospitalisations, 132 million RMB in hospital cost and 145 thousand days of hospital stay could be attributable to PM2.5 exposures using WHO's guideline as reference. We estimated that 193 RMB (95% CI: 95 to 292) in hospital cost and 0.21 days (95% CI: 0.13 to 0.30) in hospital stay could be potentially avoidable for an average respiratory case. CONCLUSION Significant respiratory burden could be attributable to PM2.5 exposures in Shanxi Province, China. The results need to be factored into impact assessment of air pollution policies to provide a more complete indication of the burden addressed by the policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both cold and hot temperature have been associated with the onset of asthma, but it remains largely unknown about the risk of asthma hospitalisation associated with short-term temperature fluctuation or temperature variability (TV). OBJECTIVE To explore the association between short-term exposure to TV and asthma hospitalisation in Brazil. METHODS Data for asthma hospitalisation and weather conditions were collected from 1816 Brazilian cities between 2000 and 2015. TV was calculated as the SD of all daily minimum and maximum temperatures within 0-7 days prior to current day. A time-stratified case-crossover design was performed to quantify the association between TV and hospitalisation for asthma. RESULTS A total of 2 818 911 hospitalisations for asthma were identified during the study period. Each 1°C increase in 0-7 days' TV exposure was related to a 1.0% (95% CI 0.7% to 1.4%) increase in asthma hospitalisations. The elderly were more vulnerable to TV than other age groups, while region and season appeared to significantly modify the associations. There were 159 305 (95% CI 55 293 to 2 58 054) hospitalisations, US$48.41 million (95% CI US$16.92 to US$78.30 million) inpatient costs at 2015 price and 450.44 thousand inpatient days (95% CI 156.08 to 729.91 thousand days) associated with TV during the study period. The fraction of asthma hospitalisations attributable to TV increased from 5.32% in 2000 to 5.88% in 2015. CONCLUSION TV was significantly associated with asthma hospitalisation and the corresponding substantial health costs in Brazil. Our findings suggest that preventive measures of asthma should take TV into account.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have explored the associations between ambient air pollution and blood lipid levels. This study aimed to fill this knowledge gap based on a routine health examination cohort in Shijiazhuang, China. METHODS We included 7063 participants who took the routine health examination for 2-3 times at Hebei General Hospital from January 2016 to December 2018. Individual serum levels of cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured. Their three-month average exposure to air pollution prior to the routine health examinations was estimated using inverse distance weighted method. We used linear mixed-effects regression models to examine the associations between air pollution and levels of blood lipids while controlling for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), smoking, alcohol drinking, temperature, humidity, with a random effect for each individual. RESULTS Particles with diameters ≤2.5 μm and ≤10 μm (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and ozone (O3) were all positively associated with TC, TG, and LDL-C and negatively associated with HDL-C, in single pollutant models. Each 10 μg/m3 increment of 3-month average PM2.5 was associated with 0.65% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.03%-1.28%], 0.56% (95%CI: 0.33%-0.79%) and 0.63% (95%CI: 0.35%-0.91%) increment in TG, TC, and LDL-C, and 0.91% (95%CI: 0.68%-1.13%) decrease in HDL-C. In two-pollutant models, the effects of gaseous pollutants on blood lipids were weakened, while those of PMs were strengthened. Stronger associations were presented in the elderly (≥60 years) and overweight/obese (BMI ≥ 24) participants. CONCLUSIONS Ambient air pollution had significantly adverse effects on blood lipid levels, especially in overweight/obese and elderly individuals. CAPSULE Significant associations between increased air pollution and worse blood lipid levels were found, especially in overweight/obese and elderly individuals.

Abstract
AIM To determine the associations between outdoor air pollution and hospital outpatient visits for mental disorders in China. METHODS We obtained data of 111,842 hospital outpatient visits for mental disorders from the largest hospitals of 13 cities, China, between January 01, 2013 and December 31, 2015. We collected air pollutant data including particulate matter ≤2.5 µm in diameter (PM2.5), particulate matter ≤10 µm in diameter (PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) from China National Environmental Monitoring Centre during the same period. We conducted a time-stratified case-crossover design with conditional logistic regression models to determine the associations. RESULTS A 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and SO2 was associated with a significant increase in hospital outpatient visits for mental disorders on the current day. When stratified by age, sex and season, the effects of PM2.5 and NO2 were robust among different subgroups at lag05 days. PM10 showed positive associations in males, in cold season, and in depression patients. SO2 showed positive associations in males, in cold season, and in anxiety patients. O3 showed positive associations in females, in warm season, and in depression patients. Nearly one sixth hospital outpatient visits for mental disorders can be attributable to NO2. CONCLUSIONS Short-term increase in PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2 and O3 concentrations was significantly associated with exacerbation of mental disorders in China as indicated by increases in hospital outpatient visits. NO2 had more serious health threat than other pollutants in terms of mental disorders. Our findings strongly suggest a need for more strict emission control regulations to protect mental health from air pollution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Heat exposure, which will increase with global warming, has been linked to increased risk of a range of types of cause-specific hospitalizations. However, little is known about socioeconomic disparities in vulnerability to heat. We aimed to evaluate whether there were socioeconomic disparities in vulnerability to heat-related all-cause and cause-specific hospitalization among Brazilian cities. METHODS AND FINDINGS We collected daily hospitalization and weather data in the hot season (city-specific 4 adjacent hottest months each year) during 2000-2015 from 1,814 Brazilian cities covering 78.4% of the Brazilian population. A time-stratified case-crossover design modeled by quasi-Poisson regression and a distributed lag model was used to estimate city-specific heat-hospitalization association. Then meta-analysis was used to synthesize city-specific estimates according to different socioeconomic quartiles or levels. We included 49 million hospitalizations (58.5% female; median [interquartile range] age: 33.3 [19.8-55.7] years). For cities of lower middle income (LMI), upper middle income (UMI), and high income (HI) according to the World Bank's classification, every 5°C increase in daily mean temperature during the hot season was associated with a 5.1% (95% CI 4.4%-5.7%, P < 0.001), 3.7% (3.3%-4.0%, P < 0.001), and 2.6% (1.7%-3.4%, P < 0.001) increase in all-cause hospitalization, respectively. The inter-city socioeconomic disparities in the association were strongest for children and adolescents (0-19 years) (increased all-cause hospitalization risk with every 5°C increase [95% CI]: 9.9% [8.7%-11.1%], P < 0.001, in LMI cities versus 5.2% [4.1%-6.3%], P < 0.001, in HI cities). The disparities were particularly evident for hospitalization due to certain diseases, including ischemic heart disease (increase in cause-specific hospitalization risk with every 5°C increase [95% CI]: 5.6% [-0.2% to 11.8%], P = 0.060, in LMI cities versus 0.5% [-2.1% to 3.1%], P = 0.717, in HI cities), asthma (3.7% [0.3%-7.1%], P = 0.031, versus -6.4% [-12.1% to -0.3%], P = 0.041), pneumonia (8.0% [5.6%-10.4%], P < 0.001, versus 3.8% [1.1%-6.5%], P = 0.005), renal diseases (9.6% [6.2%-13.1%], P < 0.001, versus 4.9% [1.8%-8.0%], P = 0.002), mental health conditions (17.2% [8.4%-26.8%], P < 0.001, versus 5.5% [-1.4% to 13.0%], P = 0.121), and neoplasms (3.1% [0.7%-5.5%], P = 0.011, versus -0.1% [-2.1% to 2.0%], P = 0.939). The disparities were similar when stratifying the cities by other socioeconomic indicators (urbanization rate, literacy rate, and household income). The main limitations were lack of data on personal exposure to temperature, and that our city-level analysis did not assess intra-city or individual-level socioeconomic disparities and could not exclude confounding effects of some unmeasured variables. CONCLUSIONS Less developed cities displayed stronger associations between heat exposure and all-cause hospitalizations and certain types of cause-specific hospitalizations in Brazil. Abstract
BACKGROUND In the context of global warming, studies have turned to assess the temporal trend of the association between temperature and health outcomes, which can be used to reflect whether human beings have adapted to the local temperature. However, most studies have only focused on hot temperature and mortality. We aim to investigate the temporal variations in the association between ambient temperature and hospitalisations for cardiovascular diseases in Queensland, Australia from 1995 to 2016. METHODS AND FINDINGS We obtained data on 1,855,717 cardiovascular hospitalisations (mean age: 65.9 years, 42.7% female) from all 443 postal areas in Queensland, Australia between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 2016. Grid-level meteorological data were downloaded from scientific information for landowners. We used a time-stratified case-crossover design fitted with a conditional quasi-Poisson regression model and time-varying distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) to evaluate the association between temperature and cardiovascular hospitalisations and the temporal trends of the associations. Stratified analyses were performed in different age, sex, and climate zones. In all groups, relative risks (RRs) of cardiovascular hospitalisations associated with high temperatures (heat effects) increased, but cold effects showed a decreasing trend from 1995 to 2016. The increasing magnitude of heat effects was larger (p = 0.002) in men than in women and larger (p < 0.001) in people aged ≤69 years than in those aged ≥70 years. There was no apparent difference amongst different climate zones. The study was limited by the switch from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding systems, by being unable to separate first-time hospitalisation from repeated hospitalisations, and possibly by confounding by air pollution or by influenza infections. CONCLUSION The impacts of cold temperatures on cardiovascular hospitalisations have decreased, but the impacts of high temperatures have increased in Queensland, Australia. The findings highlight that Queensland people have adapted to the impacts of cold temperatures, but not high temperatures. The burden of cardiovascular hospitalisations due to high temperatures is likely to increase in the context of global warming.
