Abstract
INTRODUCTION CRC with liver metastases is a major contributor to cancer-related mortality. Despite advancements in liver resection techniques, patient survival remains a concern due to high recurrence rates. This study seeks to uncover prognostic biomarkers that predict overall survival in patients undergoing curative hepatic resection for CRC liver metastases. METHODS Prospectively collected serum samples from a cohort of 49 patients who received curative hepatic resection for CRC liver metastases were studied. The patients are part of a cohort, previously analyzed for perioperative complications (see methods). Various preoperative serum markers, clinical characteristics, and factors were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were conducted to determine associations between these variables and disease-free survival as well as overall survival. RESULTS For disease-free survival, univariate analysis highlighted the correlation between poor outcomes and advanced primary tumor stage, high ASA score, and synchronous liver metastases. Multivariate analysis identified nodal-positive primary tumors and synchronous metastases as independent risk factors for disease-free survival. Regarding overall survival, univariate analysis demonstrated significant links between poor survival and high preoperative IL-8 levels, elevated neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and presence of metastases in other organs. Multivariate analysis confirmed preoperative IL-8 and having three or more liver metastases as independent risk factors for overall survival. The impact of IL-8 on survival was particularly noteworthy, surpassing the influence of established clinical factors. CONCLUSION This study establishes preoperative IL-8 levels as a potential prognostic biomarker for overall survival in patients undergoing curative liver resection for CRC liver metastases. This study underscores the importance of incorporating IL-8 and other biomarkers into clinical decision-making, facilitating improved patient stratification and tailored treatment approaches. Further research and validation studies are needed to solidify the clinical utility of IL-8 as a prognostic marker.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oligometastasis, the presence of a small number of resectable metastatic tumors, usually has favorable outcomes. Here we examined whether the novel oligometastatic score (OLGS), which divides the number of colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs) by the time from colorectal resection to liver recurrence, better predicts CRLM patient survival than the commonly used clinical risk score. METHODS A total of 143 patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for CRLMs between 2007 and 2018 were analyzed. We investigated their clinical characteristics and outcomes using OLGS. RESULTS Of the 143 CRLM patients, 70 had synchronous CRLMs and 73 had metachronous CRLMs. Patients with metachronous CRLMs were divided into OLGS-low (n = 59) and OLGS-high (n = 14) subgroups. The 5-year overall survival (OS) rates after hepatectomy differed significantly between the subgroups (p < .001). In the multivariate Cox model, a high OLGS was an independent predictor of 5-year OS (p < .001), and the hazard ratio (HR) of the OLGS-high group (HR = 7.171) was higher than that of the high clinical risk score group (HR = 4.337). CONCLUSION The OLGS, a simple and handy scoring system, better predicts the 5-year OS of patients with CRLMs after hepatectomy and warrants prospective validation.

Abstract
Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the translocator 18 kDa protein (TSPO) with radioligands has become an effective means of research in peripheral inflammatory conditions that occur in many diseases and cancers. The peripheral sterile inflammatory diseases (PSIDs) are associated with a diverse group of disorders that comprises numerous enduring insults including the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, or musculoskeletal system. TSPO has recently been introduced as a potential biomarker for peripheral sterile inflammatory diseases (PSIDs). The major critical issue related to PSIDs is its timely characterization and localization of inflammatory foci for proper therapy of patients. As an alternative to metabolic imaging, protein imaging expressed on immune cells after activation is of great importance. The five transmembrane domain translocator protein-18 kDa (TSPO) is upregulated on the mitochondrial cell surface of macrophages during inflammation, serving as a potential ligand for PET tracers. Additionally, the overexpressed TSPO protein has been positively correlated with various tumor malignancies. In view of the association of escalated TSPO expression in both disease conditions, it is an immensely important biomarker for PET imaging in oncology and PSIDs. In this review, we summarize the most outstanding advances on TSPO-targeted PSIDs and cancer in the development of TSPO ligands as a potential diagnostic tool, specifically discussing the last five years.
