Antihyperlipidemic activity of glycoconjugated phthalimides in mice submitted to a model of dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. Chem Biodivers 2022; 19:e202200119. Abstract
Alterations in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism are factors that trigger several negative metabolic complications. Hyperlipidemia is the starting point for the development of comorbidities of the cardiovascular system, such as atherosclerosis. The search for compounds that reduce high levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides has been widely reported in several publications in the literature. Phthalimide derivatives have been extensively researched with various biological actions. In this study we evaluated the antihyperlipidemic ability of three phthalimide derivatives (FGT-2, FGT-3 and FGT-4) on a model of obesity and insulin resistance in mice. The animals were submitted to a hyperlipid diet for 60 days. On the thirtieth day they were treated with phthalimides (20 mg/kg). The positive control group was treated with Simvastatin (20 mg/kg) and the negative control received only the carboxymethylcellulose vehicle. Biochemical and histological analyzes of all groups were analyzed. The animals treated with phthalimidic derivatives had a reduction in total cholesterol, low density and very low density lipoproteins (LDL-c and VLDL-c), triglycerides and fasting glycemia when compared to the negative control group. The treated animals also showed good results when analyzing the atherogenic indexes Castelli i and II and the ratio Triglycerides/HDL-c. In the oral glucose tolerance test and in the insulin tolerance test, animals treated with phthalimides were more sensitive to the action of the hormone regulating carbohydrate uptake. In the evaluation of the transaminases (AST/ALT), the animals of the group treated with phthalimides presented a lower elevation than the other groups of the experiment, the same observed with the uric acid evaluation. Histological analyzes were performed on liver, kidney, heart and pancreas samples. The groups treated with the compounds FGT-2 and FGT3 presented discrete alterations in the liver and kidney. FGT-4 did not present histological alterations for both tissues and the three phthalimide derivatives did not cause alterations in the other organs. These results suggest that the phthalimides tested can act as antihyperlipidemic agents and have a pleiotropic action, by acting also reducing glycemia in insulin resistance model mimicking diabetes mellitus type 2. These compounds may appear as a new approach in the treatment of obesity and complications, which are multifaceted.

Abstract
A series of β-d-glucopyranosyl derivates have been synthesized and evaluated in photooxidation reactions promoted by visible light and mediated by organic dyes under aerobic conditions. Among the different photocatalysts employed, tetra-O-acetyl riboflavin afforded chemoselectively the respective sulfoxides, without over-oxidation to sulfones, in good to excellent yields and short reaction times. This new methodology for the preparation of synthetically useful glycosyl sulfoxides constitutes a catalytic, efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly oxidation process not reported so far for carbohydrates.

Abstract
Phthalimide derivatives have been presenting several promising biological activities in the literature,
such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antitumor, antimicrobial and anticonvulsant. The most well-known and
studied phthalimide derivative (isoindoline-1,3-dione) is thalidomide: this compound initially presented
important sedative effects, but it is now known that thalidomide has effectiveness against a wide variety of
diseases, including inflammation and cancer. This review approaches some of the recent and efficient chemical
synthesis pathways to obtain phthalimide analogues and also presents a summary of the main biological
activities of these derivatives found in the literature. Therefore, this review describes the chemical and
therapeutic aspects of phthalimide derivatives.

Abstract
AbstractThe preparation of eight 2,3-unsaturated O-glycosides from D-glycals and alcohols, using montmorillonite K-10 as an acid catalyst, is described. The Ferrier rearrangement products were obtained in good yields using conventional heating and microwave irradiation but the reaction time was substantially reduced employing the latter procedure. The yields were slightly lower under microwave exposure. Five of the di-O-acetylated products were deacetylated to the glycosides in excellent yields. The acetylated products possess good anti-inflammatory property suggesting that the acetyl group plays an important role in reducing the inflammation. Among the compounds tested, glycosides containing thiophene as an aglycone present much better inflammation reducing characteristics than the analogues without this function.

Abstract
Certain new halogenated cyclic-imides related to N-substituted phthalimide moiety were synthesized. Spacers of one or two carbon atom distances were inserted to connect the N-terminus of the cyclic-imide nuclei to the used heteroaryl groups to evaluate the effect of such alteration on biological activity. The synthesized compounds were subjected to hypoglycaemic and anti-hyperlipidemic evaluation. Some of the tested compounds proved to be more potent than the reference drugs glibenclamide and clofibrate. Compound 5e remarkably reduced serum glucose level by 55%; while 5c, 5e, 7d and 8e reduced total serum cholesterol by 58, 56, 54 and 53%, respectively. Those new cyclic-imides could be considered as useful template for future development to obtain more potent hypoglycaemic and anti-hyperlipidemic agents.

Abstract
We report a simple, efficient, and mild method for the synthesis of omega-aminoalkyl 2-deoxy-d-arabino/lyxo-hexopyranoside and 2,3-dideoxy-alpha-d-erythro-hexopyranoside. The total synthesis is accomplished in two sequential reactions. The first step consists of an addition reaction of N-(omega-hydroxyalkyl)phthalimide and N-(omega-hydroxyalkyl)succinimide to peracetylated d-glycals, which is promoted by triphenylphosphine hydrobromide or borontrifluoride/diethyl etherate. The second step involves reacting the appropriate glycoside with methylamine.

Abstract
In the molecule of the title compound, C14H7Cl2NO3, the phthalimide ring system is virtually planar, with a dihedral angle between the fused five- and six-membered rings of 4.02 (3)°. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C—Cl⋯O close contacts [Cl⋯O = 3.0123 (13) Å and C—Cl⋯O = 171.14 (7)°] link the molecules, generating R22(16), R42(19) and R44(22) ring motifs by C(6) chains to form a three-dimensional network. A weak π–π interaction between the six-membered rings of the phthalimide ring systems further stabilizes the structure, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.666 (3) Å and an interplanar separation of 3.568 Å.

Abstract
3,4,6-Tri-O-acetyl-D-galactal, 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-D-glucal and 3,6,2',3',4'6'-hexa-O-acetyl-D-lactal were reacted with N-hydroxymethylphthalimide and boron trifluoride etherate to produce the corresponding phthalimidomethyl unsaturated glycosides via Ferrier rearrangement. When the galactal derivative was used, a non-Ferrier rearrangement product was also isolated as a minor product under classical Ferrier conditions. Phthalimidomethyl deoxy glycosides were readily prepared by hydrogenation of the unsaturated glycosides. Following deacetylation, the anti-inflammatory activities of these compounds were tested on mice and three were found to possess potent activity compared to hydrocortisone sodium succinate (HSS).

Abstract
A series of substituted N-arylphthalamic acids 3a-i has been synthesized by the reaction of phthalic anhydride 1 and aryl- or heterocyclic amines 2a-i, in the absence of solvents, in a domestic microwave oven. The formation of nine N-arylphthalamic acids was accomplished in 1-3 min giving excellent yields for compounds 3a-g, but moderate yield of compounds 3h and 3i, respectively. Compounds 3h and 3i are new. Interestingly, N-arylphthalamic acids 3a-i induced hyperlipidemia in Swiss white mice and also increased animals' body weight.
