Abstract
Three cobalt complexes, namely [CoIII(HL1)2(N3)2]ClO4 (1), [CoIII(L2)(HL2)(N3)]ClO4·1.5H2O (2), and [CoIII(L3)(HL3)(NCS)]2 [CoIICl2(NCS)2] (3), where HL1 = 2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyliminomethyl)-6-methoxyphenol, HL2 = 2-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyliminomethyl)-4,6-dichlorophenol, and HL3 = 2-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyliminomethyl)-6-methoxyphenol, as potential tridentate N2O-donor Schiff base ligands, were synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. All three were found to be monomeric ionic complexes. Complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcn, whereas both complexes 2 and 3 crystallize in triclinic space groups, P1̄. Further, 1 and 2 are cationic complexes of octahedral cobalt(iii) with perchlorate anions, whereas complex 3 contains a cationic part of octahedral cobalt(iii) and an anionic part of tetrahedral cobalt(ii). Hydrogen-bonding interactions involving aromatic and aliphatic CH bonds as H-bond donors and the pseudo-halide co-ligands as H-bond acceptors were established, which are important aspects governing the X-ray packing. These interactions were analyzed theoretically using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and non-covalent interaction plot (NCI plot) analyses. Moreover, energy decomposition analysis (EDA) was performed to analyze the stabilization of the complexes in terms of the electrostatic, dispersion, and correlation forces.

Abstract
S-Oxygenation of thiophenolate bridges by ethereal hydroperoxides was studied. [NiII2LS(PhCO2)]+ (1), where LS = macrocyclic aminethiolate supporting ligand, is S-oxygenated readily in a mixed methanol/acetonitrile solution with ether/dioxygen at room temperature in the presence of daylight. The reactions were found to depend strongly on the choice of the ether. Uptake of two O atoms occurs in dioxane to give a mixed thiolate/sulfinate complex [NiII2LSO2(PhCO2)]+ (2) containing the rare five-membered Ni(μ1,1-S)(μ1,2-OS)Ni core. In tetrahydrofuran, four O atoms are taken up by 1 to generate the bis(sulfinate) species [NiII2LSO4(PhCO2)]+ (3). A mono-S-oxygenated sulfenate intermediate can be detected by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The oxygenation reactions proceed in high yields without complex disintegration and invariably provide μ1,2-bridging sulfinates as established by spectroscopy (IR and UV/vis), X-ray crystallography, and accompanying density functional theory calculations. The oxygenation of the S atoms has a strong impact on the electronic structures of the nickel complexes. The monosulfinate complex 2 has an S = 2 ground state resulting from moderate ferromagnetic exchange coupling interactions (J = +15.7 cm-1; H = -2JS1S2), while an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in 3 shows the presence of a ground state with spin S = 0 (J = -0.56 cm-1).

Abstract
The synthesis of an octa-armed 24-membered cyclic octaamine (1) is reported. When 4-benzyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-2,6-dione (3a) was prepared by the reaction of diethylenetriamine with diethyl N-benzyliminodiacetate (2), a dimeric macrocycle (3b) was obtained as a byproduct in a 5% yield. An octa-armed 24-membered cyclic octaamine (1), named Cosmosen, was prepared via the reductive amination and reduction of 3b. The binding constants for the 1:1 and 2:1 (Ag+/1) complexation of 1 were estimated to be ca. 7.9 and 13.9, respectively, by titration experiments using UV-vis spectrometry in methanol and chloroform (v/v, 9:1) solutions at 298 K.

Abstract
Reaction of the [2 + 2] Schiff-base macrocycles {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][CH2CH2(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, L1H2; tBu, L2H2) with FeBr2 afforded the complexes [FeBr(L1H2)]2[(FeBr3)2O]·2MeCN (1·2MeCN), [FeBr(L2H2)][X] (X = 0.5(FeBr3)2O, 2·0.5MeCN, X = Br, 3·5.5MeCN), respectively. Reaction of L2H2 with [KFe(OtBu)3(THF)] (formed in situ from FeBr2 and KOtBu), following work-up, led to the isolation of the complex [Fe(L2)(L2H)]·3MeCN (4·3MeCN), whilst with [CuBr2] afforded [CuBr(L2H2)][CuBr2]·2MeCN (5·2MeCN). Attempts to form mixed Co/Ti species by reaction of [CoBrL2][CoBr3(NCMe)] with TiCl4 resulted in [L2H4][CoBr4]·2MeCN (6·2MeCN). Use of the related oxy-bridged Schiff-base macrocycles {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][O(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, L3H2; tBu, L4H2) with CoBr2 led to the isolation of the complexes [(CoBr)2(L3)]·2C3H6O (7·2C3H6O), [Co(NCMe)2(L4H2)][CoBr4]·5MeCN (8·5MeCN), [Co(NCMe)6][CoBr3(MeCN)]2·2MeCN (9·2MeCN). For comparative structural/polymerisation studies, the complexes {CoBr(NCMe)L5}2·2MeCN (10·2MeCN) and [Co(NCMe)2L5]2[CoBr3(NCMe)]2 (11), [FeBr(NCMe)L5]2·2MeCN (12·2MeCN) where L5H = 2,6-(CHO)2-4-tBu-C6H2OH, as well as the chelate-free salt [Fe(NCMe)6][FeBr3OFeBr3] (13) have been isolated and structurally characterized. The ability of these complexes to act as catalysts for the ring opening polymerisation (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) was investigated, as well as co-polymerisation of ε-CL with rac-lactide (r-LA) and vice versa.

Abstract
Impregnated decorative paper was an important wood-based panel finishing material. However, traditional impregnated decorative paper was impregnated with melamine-formaldehyde resin, which will release formaldehyde and harm the human health. To solve this problem, small molecule polyacrylate-polyethylene glycol (PEG) adhesive was used to achieve the non-formaldehyde addition of the impregnation system. The dialdehyde modified CNF (D-CNF), modified by sodium periodate (NaIO4), and triethylenediamine were introduced to enhance the surface properties of the impregnated decorative paper. The results showed that the incorporation of D-CNF and triethylenediamine imparted excellent physical strength and surface properties to impregnated decorative paper. When the dosage of 0.3 wt% D-CNF and 3 mL/100 g triethylenediamine in the compound emulsion, the hardness, abrasion resistant value and surface bonding strength of impregnated decorative paper adhered fiberboard reached 3H, 330 r of damage and 1.13 MPa, respectively. Thus, it could be effectively used for making high-performance formaldehyde-free impregnated decorative paper.

Abstract
Three new hetero-metallic copper(II)-manganese(II) complexes, [(CuL)2 Mn3 (C6 H5 CO2 )6 ] (1), [(CuL)2 Mn(CH3 CO2 )2 ] (2), and {[(CuL)2 Mn(C6 H5 CH2 CO2 )2 ] ⋅ 2CH3 CN} (3), have been synthesized using [CuL] as ''metalloligand'' (where H2 L=N,N'-bis(2-hydroxynaphthyl-methylidene)-1,3-propanediamine). Single-crystal structural analyses show an almost linear penta-nuclear structure for complex 1 where a square planar [CuL] unit is connected to each of the two terminal MnII ions of a linear, centrosymmetric [Mn3 (benzoate)6 ] unit through the double phenoxido bridges. Both complexes 2 and 3 possess a linear tri-nuclear structure where two terminal square-pyramidal [CuL] units are bonded to the central MnII ion through double phenoxido oxygen atoms along with a syn-syn bridging acetate (for 2)/phenyl acetate (for 3). All three complexes exhibit catecholase, and phenoxazinone synthase-like activities under aerial conditions. For catecholase like activity, the turnover numbers (kcat ) are 595, 40, and 205 h-1 whereas, for phenoxazinone synthase like activity, the turnover numbers are 25, 4, and 11 h-1 for complexes 1-3, respectively. The mechanism of both catalytic oxidase activities is proposed on the basis of mass spectral evidences. Variable-temperature (2-300 K) dc molar magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1 reveal antiferromagnetic interactions between the Cu-Mn centres (J1 =-29.3 cm-1 ), and also between the Mn-Mn centres of the [Mn3 (benzoate)6 ] unit (J2 =-0.68 cm-1 ). On increasing the magnetic field at 2 K, its ground spin state changes from S=3/2 to S=5/2 at 4 T, attributable to the low value of J2 which makes the excited spin states close in energy with the ground spin state. Complexes 2 and 3 show antiferromagnetic coupling interactions between the Cu-Mn pairs with J values of -9.51, and -5.32 cm-1 , respectively.

Abstract
Homo-dinuclear Co and Zn complexes derived from the macrocycle LH2, {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][CH2CH2(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, tBu), revealed near inactivity for the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of the cyclic esters δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL). By contrast, the hetero-bimetallic complexes [LCo(NCMe)(μ-Br)ZnBr]·nMeCN (n = 3 or 3.25) were found to be efficient catalysts for the ROP of ε-CL and δ-VL.

A new flexible 2-ethylthiophene pendant-armed dialdehyde (H2tdd) was reacted with 1,3-propanediamine, [( S, S),( R, R),(±)]-1,2-diaminocyclohexane, and 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, giving birth to 36-membered [2 + 2] Schiff-base macrocyclic trinuclear ZnII complex 1, 18-membered [1 + 1] mononuclear ZnII macrocycles 2-4, chiral/racemic 34-membered [2 + 2] dinuclear ZnII complexes 5-9, and 46-membered [2 + 2] dinuclear ZnII macrocycles 10-12 via ZnII ion template-assisted Schiff-base condensation. It is worth mentioning that the secondary template effects for nitrate and halide counterions have been observed in the 1,3-propanediamine involved imine condensation. In all [2 + 2] ZnII macrocycles, dinuclear complexes 5-9 display a full-folded molecular conformation, while trinuclear complex 1 and dinuclear complexes 10-12 exhibit distinct half-folded structures in the presence or absence of intramolecular π-π stacking interactions between two phenolic rings of the dialdehyde component. Interestingly, a solvent-induced single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation was first achieved for two types of solvated mononuclear macrocycles 3a and 3b (H2O vs CH3CN) with folded and unfolded ligand conformations. In addition, the photoluminescent properties were studied for this family of Schiff-base macrocyclic ZnII complexes as well as the dialdehyde precursor H2tdd.

Abstract
A 20-membered N2O2S2-macrocycle (L1) and a 40-membered N4O4S4-macrocycle (L2) were employed as a [1:1] and a [2:2] cyclization product, respectively, for the preparation of diverse types of supramolecular complexes including a cascade complex. Six complexes (1-6) of the smaller macrocycle L1 including discrete to continuous forms, mono- to heteronuclear, and endo- to exo- and endo/exocoordination were prepared and their coordination modes were discussed systemically. First, the reaction of L1 with CuI in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid afforded an exocyclic 1-D coordination polymer {[(μ4-Cu4I4)(HL1)2](CF3COO)2} n (1). Meanwhile, the reaction of L1 with Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O afforded a typical endocyclic mononuclear complex [CuII(L1)](ClO4)2·H2O (2). In the reactions of L1 with CdX2 (X = Br and I), isostructural sandwich-type complexes [Cd(L1)2Br2] (3) and [Cd(L1)2I2] (4) were isolated. The treatment of L1 with Hg(ClO4)2 also afforded a sandwich-type complex [Hg(L1)2](ClO4)2 (5). One-pot reaction of L1 with a mixture of HgI2 and CdI2 afforded a dumbbell-type heteronuclear complex {[Cd(L1)]2(μ-Hg2I6)}[Hg2I6] (6), in which the Cd(II) ion occupies the macrocyclic cavity. Further, such two endocyclic Cd(II) complex units are bridged by a square-type (μ-Hg2I6)2- cluster remaining another same cluster separately. The comparative NMR data exhibited a higher affinity of Cd(II) over Hg(II) toward L1, in the parallel to the situation occurred in the solid state. Meanwhile, complexations of the extra-large macrocycle L2 is more challenging to afford some interesting dimercury(II) coordination products including a cascade complex. In solution, the dimercury(II) perchlorato complex of L2 as a metalloligand shows a preferential binding of dabco (1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane), but its dimercury(II) iodo complex has a much smaller affinity for dabco. In order to explain these results, the solid dimercury(II) complexes with different anions [Hg2(L2)X4] (7: X = I, 8: X = ClO4) were prepared and characterized. Further, the dimercury(II) perchlorato complex 8 reacts with dabco to forms a cascade complex [Hg2(L2)(μ-dabco)(ClO4)2](ClO4)2·2DMF·2ether (9), exhibiting its formation being metal-driven and coordinated anion-regulated. The observed cascade complexation both in solution and solid states is an example of the adaptive guest binding.

Abstract
Development of a new and high yielding synthetic route to 1,8-diformyl-carbazoles 3 (3a 3,6-di- tert-butyl substituted; 3b 3,6-unsubstituted) is reported. Use of a Heck coupling reaction, followed by ozonolysis, has greatly facilitated the preparation of these interesting head units in useful quantities. An initial foray into the new generations of Schiff base macrocycles that ready access to these head units (3) opens up, has led to the direct (i.e., metal-free) synthesis of two [2 + 2] macrocycles from 3a or 3b with 1,2-diaminoethane, H2LtBu (4a) and H2LH (4b), respectively, obtained as yellow powders in high yields (87-88%). The dizinc complex [Zn2LH(OAc)2] (5b) was isolated as a bright yellow solid in 83% yield, by 1:2:2 reaction of H2LH with zinc(II) acetate and triethylamine. Aldehydes 3a and 3b, macrocycle H2LH, and complex [Zn2LH(OAc)2] (5b) have been structurally characterized. The carbazole NH makes bifurcated hydrogen bonds with the pair of flanking 1,8-diformyl-moieties in 3, or 1,8-diimine-moieties in H2LH, leading to a flat, all- cis conformation. The stepped conformation of the metal-free macrocycle H2LH is retained in [Zn2LH(OAc)2], despite deprotonation and binding of two zinc(II) centers within the two tridentate pockets. The N3O2 coordination of the zinc ions is completed by one μ1,1- and one μ1,3- bridging acetate anion. Excitation of nanomolar [Zn2LH(OAc)2] in DMF at 335 nm results in clearly visible blue fluorescence (λmax = 460 nm). Further studies on the H2LH macrocycle revealed turn-on fluorescence, with selectivity (over Ca2+, Mg2+ and a range of 3d dications) and nanomolar sensitivity for zinc(II) ions, highlighting one of the many potential applications for these new carbazole-based Schiff base macrocycles.

Abstract
19-membered and a 38-membered macrocycles obtained as a mixture via respective [1 : 1] and [2 : 2] cyclisations were separated and their coordination behaviours with copper(i) iodide were investigated. One of the notable products isolated is a tetranuclear bis(macrocycle) complex with the larger macrocycle adopting a double decker type structure. Furthermore, removal of the lattice solvent molecules in the above complex in air motivates the displacement of the double decker units along the a-axis by sliding in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal manner.

Abstract
The synthesis of three new dizinc(II) complexes bearing a macrocyclic [2 + 2] Schiff base ligand is reported. The bis(anilido)tetraimine macrocycle reacts with diethylzinc to form a bis(ethyl)dizinc(II) complex, [L(Et)Zn2Et2] (1). The reaction of complex 1 with isopropyl alcohol is reported, forming a bis(isopropyl alkoxide)dizinc complex, [L(Et)Zn2((i)PrO)2] (2). Furthermore, complex 1, with 2 equiv of alcohol, is applied as an initiator for racemic lactide ring-opening polymerization. It shows moderately high activity, resulting in a pseudo-first-order rate coefficient of 9.8 × 10(-3) min(-1), with [LA] = 1 M and [initiator] = 5 mM at 25 °C and in a tetrahydrofuran solvent. Polymerization occurs with good control, as evidenced by the linear fit to a plot of molecular weight versus conversion, the narrow dispersities, and the limited transesterification. The same initiating system is inactive for the ring-opening copolymerization of carbon dioxide (CO2) and cyclohexene oxide at 80 °C and 1 bar of CO2 pressure. However, stoichiometric reactions between complex 2 and CO2, at 1 bar pressure, result in the reversible formation of new dizinc carbonate species, [L(Et)Zn2((i)PrO)((i)PrOCO2)] (3a) and [L(Et)Zn2((i)PrOCO2)2] (3b), and the reaction was studied using density functional theory calculations. All of the new complexes, 1-3b, are fully characterized, including NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
