Abstract
The nickel(II) catalyst has manifested higher catalytic activity compared to that of other late transition metal catalysts for norbornene polymerization. Therefore, several structurally similar trans-nickel(II) compounds of N,O-chelate bidentate ligands were synthesized and characterized. Both the electronic effect and the steric hindrance influence polymerization. The molecular structures of 2, 4 and 5 were further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
A novel Schiff base (H(2)cddi(t)butsalen) ligand was prepared via condensation of Methyl-2-{N-(2'-aminoethane)}-amino-1-cyclopentenedithiocarboxylate(Hcden) and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde. The ligand and Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were characterized based on elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, UV-Vis spectrometry and cyclic voltammetry. The structure of copper{methyl-2-{N-[2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidynenitrilo]ethyl}amino-1-cyclopentedithiocarboxylate has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The X-ray results confirm that the geometry of the complex is slightly distorted square-planar structure. The copper(II) ion coordinates to two nitrogen atoms from the imine moiety of the ligand, a sulfur atom the methyl dithiocarboxylate moiety and phenolic oxygen atom.

Abstract
EPR spectroscopy was used to study the complex formed in crystals of 5-methyl-2-thiouracil (2-thiothymine) containing traces of copper. The copper impurities, originally present as Cu(I)-complex of 2-thiothymine in the lattice of 2-thiothymine, are transformed into paramagnetic Cu(II)-complex by ionizing radiation. It was found that the complex is planar, the plane being defined by two pairs of S and N atoms, from two adjacent 2-thiothymine molecules. The structure of the complex suggests that a pair of hydrogen bonds between two neighboring molecules is replaced by a stronger Cu-coordination bonding, with two sulfur and two nitrogen atoms as ligands. The spectroscopic parameters (g-tensor, A(63Cu) and A(14N) tensors) are essentially similar to those earlier observed for copper planar centers in other systems.

Abstract
Nickel(II) complexes of three new heterodonor ligands (HL(1), H(2)L(2), and H(3)L(3)) based on 2-aminocyclopent-1-ene-1-dithiocarboxylate have been synthesized, and their crystallographic characterizations are reported. With the pentacoordinating ligands HL(1) and H(3)L(3), the products obtained (1 and 2) are both mononuclear square planar compounds in which one of the pyrazolyl arms of ligand HL(1) and the bridgehead alkoxy oxygen of H(3)L(3) are staying away from coordination in 1 and 2, respectively. The saturated three carbon alkanyl chain in the ligand H(3)L(3) provides enough flexibility to generate tetrahedral distortion (dihedral angle, 22.7 degrees ) in the planarity of 2. Compound 1 displays paramagnetic line-broadening in its (1)H NMR spectrum due to oligomerization in solution. With the unsymmetrical binucleating ligand H(2)L(2), two mixed-spin homodinuclear complexes (3 and 4) have been synthesized using pyrazole and 2-mercaptopyridine as ancillary mu(2)-bridging ligands. Both these complexes have square planar low-spin and spin-triplet nickel(II) centers which display both coordination number and donor set asymmetry in tandem. The compounds have been characterized by (1)H NMR, electronic spectroscopy, and electrochemical studies.
