Abstract
Single crystals of acetoacetanilide have been successfully grown by slow evaporation solution growth method at room temperature. The grown crystal belongs to orthorhombic crystal system having the lattice dimensions of a=8.686Å, b=11.104Å, c=19.232Å. Its crystalline perfection was examined by home-made high resolution X-ray diffractometer (HRXRD), and found that that the quality of the specimen is reasonable. The presence of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen were experimentally determined by elemental analysis and that are in good agreement with the theoretically calculated values. Its laser damage threshold, phase matching and second harmonic generation efficiency were determined by using Nd:YAG laser as a source. Optical behavior of acetoacetanilide was examined by using photoluminescence studies. Its hyerpolarizability and HOMO-LUMO energies were calculated by using density functional theory (DFT).

Abstract
Dinitroacetylene and other nitroacetylenes are attractive stoichiometric precursors to high energy-density materials, but suffer from high reactivity and thermal instability. Herein, we report that nitroacetylenes can be dramatically stabilized in the form of their dicobalt hexacarbonyl complexes. In particular, we describe the syntheses and characterization of the first two transition-metal complexes of nitroalkynes, [μ-1-nitro-2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co) and [μ-1-nitroethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co). The chemistry of these compounds reveals their potential as reaction partners in [2+2+2] cyclotrimerizations, furnishing nitroindane, nitrotetralin, and trinitrobenzene products. The X-ray crystal structure of 1,3,5-trinitro-2,4,6-tris(trimethylsilyl)benzene presents a distorted, yet planar, aromatic ring.

Abstract
Some novel imidazole derivatives were developed as highly sensitive chemisensors for transition metal ions. A prominent fluorescence enhancement was found in the presence of transition metal ions such as Hg(2+), Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Co(2+) and Fe(2+) and this was suggested to result from the suppression of radiationless transitions from the n-π* state in the chemisensors. By DFT calculation HOMO-LUMO energies were calculated, the electric dipole moment (μ) and the hyperpolarizability (β) of the investigated molecules have been studied experimentally and also theoretically. These synthesized molecules were found to have microscopic non-linear optical (NLO) behaviour with non-zero tensor components.

Abstract
Azo linked dye derivatives were synthesized and characterized by NMR, mass and elemental analysis. An excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in hydroxy Schiff base has been analyzed, and found that two distinct ground state isomers of I and II are responsible for the observed dual emission. DFT calculation on energy, dipole moment, charge distribution of the rotamers in the ground and excited states support the ESIPT process. PES calculation indicates that the energy barrier for the interconversion of two rotamers is too high in the excited state than the ground state. By varying the addition of base concentration to hydroxy Schiff base, two isobestic points were found which confirm the equilibrium among the trans enol form, anion and the cis enol form. Fluorescence quenching with metal ions reveal that hydroxy Schiff base can be used as a new fluorescence sensor to detect the Cu(2+) ion.

Abstract
(1)H and (13)C NMR spectra were recorded for some novel picrate derivatives derived from some 3,3-methyl-2,6-diarylpiperidin-4-ones and 3-benzyl-2,6-diarylpiperidin-4-one. The difference in the chemical shift of equatorial methylene proton and axial methylene proton at C(5) [Δ = δ(eq)-δ(ax)] is highly negative which is in contrast to the value observed in the corresponding parent piperidin-4-ones and this is attributed to the syn 1,3-diaxial interaction between the axial N-H bond and axial hydrogen at C-5. The effect of protonation on the chemical shifts was studied in detail. The chemical shifts of the heterocyclic ring protons are influenced by the picrate anion. Solvatochromism of picrates were studied in detail. DFT calculations were carried out in order to find out the NBO analysis, HOMO-LUMO energies, MEP studies and hyperpolarisability behaviour. The electric dipole moment (μ) and the first-hyperpolarisability (β) value of the investigated molecules have been studied theoretically which reveal that the synthesized molecules have microscopic non-linear optical (NLO) behaviour with non-zero values.

Abstract
A group of novel Schiff base derivatives were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectra, X-ray, mass and CHN analysis. An excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process in hydroxy Schiff base (SB4) has been studied using emission spectroscopy and it was detected that the two distinct ground state isomers of I and II are responsible for the emission. The comparison of the emission wavelength in hydrocarbon solvent strongly supports that trans enol form predominates over the cis enol form for Schiff base (SB4). With increasing base concentration of the solutions of hydroxy substituted Schiff bases (SB4 and SB5), two isobestic points are found which confirm the equilibrium among the trans enol form, anion and the cis enol form. The fluorescence of (SB4) quenched markedly with the gradual addition of Cu(2+) but the fluorescence properties of (SB5) was influenced by other metal ions. Therefore Schiff base (SB5) can be used as a new fluorescence sensor to detect the quantity of Cu(2+) ion in any sample solution depending on the relative intensity change. DFT calculations on energy, dipole moment, charge distribution of the rotamers in the ground and excited states of the Schiff base derivatives were performed and discussed. PES calculation indicates that the energy barrier for the interconversion of two rotamers is too high in the excited state than the ground state.

Abstract
N-(4-nitrobenzylidene)-o-fluoroamine (1) and N-(3-nitrobenzylidene)-p-fluoroamine (2) have been synthesized. The crystal structures of both compounds have been defined by X-ray diffraction analysis, and characterized by FT-IR and UV-visible instrumental methods. The recorded spectrum by UV-visible spectroscopy for the investigated compounds show good transparency in the visible region, and have solvatochromic behavior in the UV region, implying nonzero microscopic first hyperpolarizability. We also report ab initio quantum chemical calculations of the electric dipole moments (mu) and the first hyperpolarizabilities (beta) of the studied compounds. Our results suggest that the investigated ligands might have microscopic nonlinear optical (NLO) behavior with nonzero values.
