Abstract
A 2-year, 3-month-old Holstein cow presented with anorexia and enlarged superficial lymph nodes. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the superficial lymph nodes
revealed large blast cells. Hematological examination revealed anemia, neutropenia, and blast cells in peripheral blood. Blast cells were the predominant cell
type in bone marrow aspirates. Of the non-erythroid cells, 26%, 58%, and 18% were positive for myeloperoxidase, α-naphthyl acetate esterase, and naphthol AS-D
chloroacetate esterase, respectively. Pathological examination revealed the proliferation of neoplastic cells, which were positive for monocytic markers, in the
affected lymph nodes. The cow was diagnosed with acute myelomonocytic leukemia based on these findings. This report highlights the importance of performing bone
marrow aspiration cytology and cytochemical staining when diagnosing bovine myeloid leukemia.

Abstract
Erythroblastic sarcoma in a 10-year-old Japanese Black cow with anemia is described. Tumor masses or nodules were located mainly in the thoracic cavity, and some lymph nodes were slightly
enlarged. Although neoplastic involvement of the bone marrow was detected, the cow was not leukemic. The diagnosis was made based on the localized distribution of neoplastic lesions, no
increase of intravascular nucleated cell number, deeply eosinophilic cytoplasm in some tumor cells, and frequent immunoreactivity of the tumor cells for hemoglobin. The tumor cells were
characterized by marked pleomorphism and atypia; such morphological deviation from their normal counterparts may be connected with functional deviation resulting in the sarcomatous growth of
these erythroid cells.

Abstract
A three-month-old female Holstein-Friesian calf was presented with acute tetraparesis. After neurological examination a multifocal lesion in the central nervous system was suspected with the most pronounced lesions between the third thoracic and the third lumbar vertebrae. Haematological examination revealed moderate anaemia as well as severe thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and leucocytosis. A blood smear and bone marrow aspirate exhibited predominantly blasts with basophilic granulation leading to a diagnosis of acute (myeloid) leukaemia with involvement of the basophilic lineage or an acute basophilic leukaemia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed spinal cord compression; at necropsy, extensive localised haemorrhages extending into the thoracic vertebral canal were found. Histopathology revealed a large population of blast cells in several tissues including the meninges. Due to multifocal detection of neoplastic cells in the vascular system, neoplasia of the haematopoietic system was assumed in agreement with haematological findings. Signs of paresis could be explained by intramedullary spinal cord haemorrhage and myeloid infiltrations of meningeal vessels. In conclusion, despite its rarity, acute myeloid leukaemia with involvement of the basophilic lineage may be considered in diagnosing calves with progressive deteriorating general condition, paresis, leucocytosis with moderate basophilic differentiation or haemorrhagic disorders.

Abstract
Malignant histiocytosis was diagnosed in 4 cows. In all cases the tumor tissues were composed of cytologically atypical histiocytes with evidence of erythrophagocytosis. The tumor in case 1 appeared highly anaplastic with marked nuclear pleomorphism, and had areas of spindle cell differentiation, but had no relation to malignant fibrous histiocytoma. The neoplastic tissue in case 2, characterized by cohesive growth of tumor cells, was distinguishable from anaplastic carcinoma cells by cytokeratin immunostaining. There were many hemosiderin-laden neoplastic cells suggestive of high phagocytic activity in a lymph node of case 3. The neoplastic cells in case 4, frequently multinucleated, were less atypical than in the other cases. All cases expressed histiocyte-associated markers (lysozyme and HAM56), and were negative for cytokeratin, S100, and T- and B-cell lineage-specific markers (CD3 and CD79a). The most frequent HAM56 immunoreactivity was detected in case 4, and the giant, multinucleated forms, reminiscent of epithelioid cell differentiation. seemed not to indicate cytological pleomorphism as a result of neoplastic transformation.

Abstract
An acute myeloblastic leukemia was found in a 3.5-year-old Holstein cow. The neoplasm was characterized by massive tumor growths, and there were multiple tumor nodules in the dermis or subcutis and a large tumor mass in the mediastinum. This tumor showed negative reactivity for CD3, CD79a, major histocompatibility complex class II and myeloid/histiocyte antigen. Ultrastructural features such as dispersed cytoplasmic granules and poorly developed organelles were compatible with those of early promyelocytes.

Abstract
A myeloproliferative disease was found in a 128-day-old Holstein female calf. The tumour consisted chiefly of primitive cells, and more mature cells, many of which were positive for haemoglobin, were admixed with them. Binucleated cells at various stages of maturation were occasionally seen, and siderosomes were confirmed in both primitive cells and more mature cells by electron microscopy. The primitive cells resembled proerythroblasts, and this tumour, thought to be an acute type neoplasm of the erythroid system, was distinguishable from chronic erythremic myelosis and polycythemia vera.
