Abstract
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are double membrane vesicles, abundant in all biological fluids. However, the characterization of EVs in aqueous humor (AH) is still limited. The aim of the present work was to characterize EVs isolated from AH (AH-EVs) in terms of surface markers of cellular origin and functional properties. We obtained AHs from patients with cataract undergoing surgical phacoemulsification and insertion of intraocular lenses (n = 10). Nanoparticle tracking analysis, electron microscopy, super resolution microscopy and bead-based cytofluorimetry were used to characterize EVs from AH. Subsequently, we investigated the effects of AH-EVs on viability, proliferation and wound healing of human immortalized keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells in vitro in comparison with the effect of mesenchymal stromal cell-EVs (MSC-EVs). AH-EVs had a mean size of around 100 nm and expressed the classical tetraspanins (CD9, CD63 and CD81). Super resolution microscopy revealed co-expression of CD9, CD63 and CD81. Moreover, cytofluorimetric analysis highlighted the expression of mesenchymal, stem, epithelial and endothelial markers. In the in vitro wound healing assay on HaCaT cells, AH-EVs induced a significantly faster wound repair, comparable to the effects of MSC-EVs, and promoted HaCaT cell viability and proliferation. We provide evidence, herein, of the possible AH-EV origin from stromal cells, limbal epithelial/stem cells, ciliary epithelium and corneal endothelium. In addition, we showed their in vitro proliferative and regenerative capacities.

Abstract
Molting is natural adaptation to climate change in all birds, including chickens. Forced molting (FM) can rejuvenate and reactivate the reproductive potential of aged hens, but the effect of natural molting (NM) on older chickens is not clear. To explore why FM has a dramatically different effect on chickens compared with NM, the transcriptome analyses of the hypothalamus and ovary in forced molted and natural molted hens at two periods with feathers fallen and regrown were performed. Additionally, each experimental chicken was tested for serological indices. The results of serological indices showed that growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, and thyroxine levels were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in forced molted hens than in natural molted hens, and calcitonin concentrations were lower in the forced molted than in the natural molted hens. Furthermore, the transcriptomic analysis revealed a large number of genes related to disease resistance and anti-aging in the two different FM and NM periods. These regulatory genes and serological indices promote reproductive function during FM. This study systematically revealed the transcriptomic and serological differences between FM and NM, which could broaden our understanding of aging, rejuvenation, egg production, and welfare issues related to FM in chickens.

Abstract
A 2-day-old female piglet was submitted with multiple congenital, nodular skin masses located on the head, neck, trunk and legs. Histopathological examination revealed the presence of nodular, cutaneous tumours with a biphasic growth pattern and comprising a population of undifferentiated, oval or slightly polygonal, frequently perivascularly located cells and a population of spindle-shaped, fibroblast-like cells arranged in bundles. Multifocally, tumour cells infiltrated subcutaneous adipose and muscular tissue. Immunohistochemically, the undifferentiated tumour cells expressed vimentin and calponin, whereas the spindle-shaped tumour cells were positive for vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin and calponin. Based on these findings, the diagnosis was myofibroblastic tumours closely resembling the multicentric form of human infantile myofibromatosis.

Abstract
The literature on congenital and hereditary tumours in pigs was reviewed. One hitherto unreported own case was added. Sporadic cases of congenital tumours included several types found in newborn piglets. Embryonic tumours (nephroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma) occurred either in newborn or in juvenile animals. Cardiac rhabdomyomas were provisionally classified as hamartomas. The hereditary tumours, melanomas and lymphomas, were reproducible by experimental matings. These tumours are particularly interesting as models to elucidate genetic and immunologic mechanisms of tumour diseases. Striking is the high degree of regression in porcine melanomas and the associated melanosis.

Abstract
The distribution of different cells of the immune system has been studied in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues from conventionally reared healthy pigs, using immunohistological techniques. The samples collected were: lungs, tonsils, lymph nodes (mediastinal, mesenteric, inguinal and submandibular), pancreas, spleen, liver, kidney, adrenal gland, ileum and stomach. A total of six primary antibodies anti-CD3, anti-CD79alpha, Mac 387, anti-lysozyme, anti-CD45RA (3C3/9) and anti-SLA-II-DQ (BL2H5) were used with a standard avidin-biotin peroxidase (ABC) method. Anti-CD3 and anti-CD79alpha mAb-reacted, respectively with cells located in T cell areas and B cell areas. Mac 387 recognised circulating polymorphonuclear leukocytes, while anti-lysozyme-stained resident macrophages in all tissues. 3C3/9 and BL2H5, were assessed in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues for the first time. 3C3/9 identified B lymphocytes, in primary follicles and mantle zones, a subpopulation of T cells, especially located in the marginal zone of the spleen and a variable number of immunoblasts, in the germinal centres. BL2H5 reacted with B cells in the mantle zones of the follicles of lymphoid tissues, with dendritic and interdigitating cells in all studied lymphoid tissues and with a variable number of resting and activated T cells in the periarteriolar lymphoid sheath (PALs), marginal zone and red pulp of the spleen. Furthermore, it stained Kupffer and perivascular macrophages in the liver. This study represents a detailed histological study of the distribution of the most important subpopulations of immune system cells in conventional, healthy pigs. In our view, these tools should be useful for future comparative studies in disease conditions.

Abstract
Interest in transdermal drug delivery has increased in recent years owing to its many advantages over other routes of administration. In order to evaluate a transdermal product effectively, three main issues need to be addressed: (1) the kind of skin model that will be used to evaluate the drug permeation; (2) the mathematical model that will be used to characterize the permeation of the drug across the skin; and (3) the diffusion apparatus that will be used to conduct the permeation study.

Abstract
We described previously a unique cutaneous tumour in a young pig, which was characterized by several criteria as a histiocytic leiomyofibrosarcoma. The lipid-laden macrophages (histiocytes) which permeated the tumour were CD2+/CD18+/CD49d+ but MAC387 (L1 antigen) and CD15 negative. The present study compared the phenotypes of histiocytes in tumour metastases in the liver with resident liver macrophages, revealing differential expression of certain macrophage activation markers. After repeated subcutaneous passage of the tumour in athymic (nu/nu) mice, flow cytometry demonstrated a rapid loss of porcine MHC Class II, but a more prolonged expression of porcine MHC Class I, consistent with our immunohistological observations. Mouse macrophages (CD2+/F4.80+) infiltrated the later-passage tumours, suggesting that the histiocytes were not of neoplastic origin.
