Abstract
In recent times, diaryliodonium reagents (DAIRs) have witnessed a resurgence as arylating reagents, especially under photoinduced conditions. However, reactions proceeding through electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex formation with DAIRs are restricted to electron-rich reacting partners serving as donors due to the well-known cage effect. We discovered a practical and high-yielding visible-light-induced EDA platform to generate aryl radicals from the corresponding DAIRs and use them to synthesize key chalcogenides. In this process, an array of DAIRs and dichalcogenides react in the presence of 1,4 diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) as a cheap and readily available donor, furnishing a variety of di(hetero)aryl and aryl/alkyl chalcogenides in good yields. The method is scalable, features a broad scope with good yields, and operates under open-to-air conditions. The photoinduced chalcogenation technology is suitable for late-stage functionalizations and disulfide bioconjugations and facilitates access to biologically relevant thioesters, dithiocarbamates, sulfoximines, and sulfones. Moreover, the method applies to synthesizing diverse pharmaceuticals, such as vortioxetine, promazine, mequitazine, and dapsone, under amenable conditions.

Organosulphur and organoselenium compounds as emerging building blocks for catalytic systems for O-arylation of phenols, a C-O coupling reaction. Dalton Trans 2022; 51:8103-8132. Abstract
Diaryl ethers form an important class of organic compounds. The classic copper-mediated Ullmann diaryl ether synthesis has been known for many years and involves the coupling of phenols with aryl halides. However, the use of high reaction temperature, high catalyst loading and expensive ligands has created a need for the development of alternative catalytic systems. In the recent past, organosulphur and organoselenium compounds have been used as building blocks for developing homogeneous, heterogeneous and nanocatalysts for this C-O coupling reaction. Homogeneous catalytic systems include preformed complexes of metals with organosulphur and organoselenium ligands. The performance of such complexes is influenced dramatically by the nature of the chalcogen (S or Se) donor site of the ligand. Nanocatalytic systems (including Pd17Se15, Pd16S7 and Cu1.8S) have been designed using a single-source precursor route. Heterogeneous catalytic systems contain either metal (Cu or Pd) or metal chalcogenides (Pd17Se15 or Cu1.8S) as catalytically active species. This article aims to cover the simple and straightforward methodologies and approaches that are adopted for developing catalytically relevant organosulfur and organoselenium ligands, their homogeneous metal complexes, heterogeneous and nanocatalysts. The effects of chalcogen (S or Se) donor, halogen (Cl/Br/I) of aryl halide, nature (electron withdrawing or electron donating) of substituents present on the aromatic ring of aryl halides or substituted phenols and position (ortho or para) of substitution on the results of catalytic reactions have been critically analyzed and summarized. The effect of composition (Pd17Se15 or Pd16S7) on the performance of nanocatalytic systems is also highlighted. Substrate scope has also been discussed in all three types of catalysis. The superiority of heterogeneous catalytic systems (e.g., Pd17Se15 immobilised on graphene oxide) indicates the bright future possibilities for the development of efficient catalytic systems using similar or tailored ligands for this reaction.

Abstract
A methodology is reported for visible-light-promoted synthesis of unsymmetrical chalcogenides enabled by dimsyl anion in the absence of transition-metals or photoredox catalysts. The cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and diaryl dichalcogenides proceeds with electron-rich, electron-poor, and heteroaromatic moieties. Mechanistic investigations using UV-Vis spectroscopy, time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations, and control reactions suggest that dimsyl anion forms an electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) complex capable of absorbing blue light, leading to a charge transfer responsible for generation of aryl radicals from aryl halides. This previously unreported mechanistic pathway may be applied to other light-induced transformations performed in DMSO in the presence of bases and aryl halides.

Abstract
Background:
Organoselenides are important building blocks of several biologically important
molecules and natural products. Several protocols have been developed by chemists for their synthesis.
Transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling is a powerful tool for this purpose in the last two decades. Various
transition metal catalysts e.g. Pd, Ni, Cu, In etc. have been used for performing C-Se cross-coupling
in the presence or absence of ligands.
Objective:
Development of a sustainable protocol for transition metal-catalyzed C-Se cross-coupling is
the main objective of this research. Recently, Cobalt has been applied as a cheap and sustainable transition
metal catalyst in several organic reactions. This protocol is focused on applying cobalt salt as a catalyst
for performing C-Se cross-coupling for the first time.
Methods:
Co(acac)2 has been successfully employed for performing Se-arylations in the presence of CuI,
which acts as a co-catalyst under microwave irradiation. NMP was used as solvent and KOH as a reductant
in this reaction.
Results:
Both iodo-and bromoarenes have been used to perform C-Se cross-coupling with diaryl
diselenide under this Co/Cu dual catalytic system. The reaction was successful with both electrondonating
and withdrawing groups in ortho-, meta-, and para-positions in the aromatic ring of Bromo and
iodoarenes.
Conclusion:
This is an effective protocol for the preparation of organoselenides, catalyzed by cobalt in
the presence of copper. The mechanism has been established by several experimental techniques.

Abstract
An unprecedented arylselenylation of aryl halides with trifluoromethyl aryl selenonium ylides in the presence of copper is described. The reaction proceeded at 100-140 °C under ligand- and additive-free conditions for 3-20 h to form a variety of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides in good to high yields. Arylselenylation is easy to operate, has good functional group tolerance, and demonstrates the different reaction profiles of trifluoromethyl aryl selenonium ylides from the homologous trifluoromethyl aryl sulfonium ylides.

Abstract
A highly efficient heterogeneous copper(I)-catalysed C–Se coupling of aryl iodides with diaryl diselenides was achieved in dimethylformamide at 110 °C under neutral conditions by using a 10 mol% of bipyridine-functionalised MCM-41-supported copper(I) complex [bpy-MCM-41-CuI] as the catalyst and magnesium as the reductive reagent, yielding a variety of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides in good to excellent yields. This heterogeneous copper catalyst can be easily recovered by a simple filtration of the reaction solution and recycled at least seven times without significant loss of activity.

Abstract
Building on our recent disclosure of catalysis at dinuclear Pd(I) sites, we herein report the application of this concept to the realization of the first catalytic method to convert aryl iodides into the corresponding ArSeCF3 compounds. Highly efficient C-SeCF3 coupling of a range of aryl iodides was achieved, enabled by an air-, moisture-, and thermally stable dinuclear Pd(I) catalyst. The novel SeCF3 -bridged dinuclear Pd(I) complex 3 was isolated, studied for its catalytic competence and shown to be recoverable. Experimental and computational data are presented in support of dinuclear Pd(I) catalysis.

Abstract
A novel method of photoinduced synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides from triarylbismuthines and diaryl diselenides has been developed. Although the arylation reactions with triarylbismuthines are usually catalyzed by transition-metal complexes, the present arylation of diaryl diselenides with triarylbismuthines proceeds upon photoirradiation in the absence of transition-metal catalysts. A variety of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides can be conveniently prepared by using this arylation method.
