Abstract
Exploration of the 4-exo-dig cyclocarbopalladation in the discovery of new and original scaffolds afforded some unexpected results. The search for a way to produce seven-membered ring systems led to polycyclic molecules bearing a tetrasubstituted carbon. The triple bond that substitutes the cyclohexene ring on the starting compound is crucial for a high stereoselectivity. This observation has been confirmed by the reaction of a nonsubstituted cyclohexene ring resulting in poor stereoselectivity and low yields.

Abstract
The concatenation of Suzuki coupling and Buchwald‐Hartwig amination in a consecutive multicomponent reaction opens a concise, modular and efficient one‐pot approach to diversely functionalized heterocycles, as exemplified for 3,10‐diaryl 10H‐phenothiazines, 3,9‐diaryl 9H‐carbazoles, and 1,5‐diaryl 1H‐indoles, in high yields starting from simple staring materials. Moreover, this one‐pot reaction is a sequentially palladium‐catalyzed process that does not require additional catalyst loading after the first coupling step.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed S-allylation of thiols with stable allylcarbonate and allylacetate reagents offers several advantages over established reactions for the formation of thioethers. We could demonstrate that Pd/BIPHEPHOS is a catalyst system which allows the transition metal-catalyzed S-allylation of thiols with excellent n-regioselectivity. Mechanistic studies showed that this reaction is reversible under the applied reaction conditions. The excellent functional group tolerance of this transformation was demonstrated with a broad variety of thiol nucleophiles (18 examples) and allyl substrates (9 examples), and could even be applied for the late-stage diversification of cephalosporins, which might find application in the synthesis of new antibiotics.

Abstract
Diverse and controllable pathways induced by palladium-catalyzed intramolecular Heck reaction of N-vinylacetamides for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing products in reasonable to high yields via tuning the phosphine ligands and bases are reported. Domino reactions including unique β-N-Pd elimination, 1,4-Pd migration, or direct acyl C-H bond functionalization were found to be involved forming different products, respectively. Given the ability of using the same starting material to generate diverse products via completely different chemoselective processes, these current methodologies offer straightforward access to valuable nitrogen-containing products under mild reaction conditions as well as inspire the discovery of novel reactions.

Abstract
The first four-fold cross coupling reaction involving alkenic partners leads to the title hydrocarbon on multi-gram scale in one step from commercially available precursors. In stark contrast to its close structural relatives, tetravinylethylene is a remarkably robust, bench-stable compound. The π-bond rich hydrocarbon is shown to undergo one-pot sequences of pericyclic reactions leading to the formation of complex systems with four new rings, seven C-C bonds and ten stereocenters with a very high level of stereoselectivity. Insights into the reactivity of this and related systems is provided using the accurate composite ab initio MO G4(MP2) method.

Abstract
The compounds [3-(2-Bromocyclohex-2-enyloxy)prop-1-ynyl]-tert-butyl-dimethylsilane 3, [4-(2-bromocyclohex-2-en-1-yloxy)but-2-yn-1-yloxy]tert-butyldimethylsilane 5 and dimethyl 2-(2-bromocyclohex-2-enyl)-2-(3-(tert-butyldimethylsilanyl)prop-2-ynyl)malonate 9 were prepared and subjected to palladium-catalyzed intra-intermolecular cascade cross couplings incorporating bicyclopropylidene 10 under two types of conditions. In the presence of Pd(OAc)2, PPh3 and K2CO3 in acetonitrile at 80 °C, the products were indene analogues, cross-conjugated tetraenes 11, 12 and 13, respectively. The corresponding spirocyclopropanated tricycle 16 in dimethylformamide at 110 °C was obtained, albeit in low yield (24%), and observed as an equimolar mixture of diastereomers, whereas 14, 15 were not fully isolated.

Abstract
The palladium metal catalysed Heck reaction of 4-iodoanisole with styrene or methyl acrylate has been studied in a continuous plug flow reactor (PFR) using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the solvent, with THF and methanol as modifiers. The catalyst was 2% palladium on silica and the base was diisopropylethylamine due to its solubility in the reaction solvent. No phosphine co-catalysts were used so the work-up procedure was simplified and the green credentials of the reaction were enhanced. The reactions were studied as a function of temperature, pressure and flow rate and in the case of the reaction with styrene compared against a standard, stirred autoclave reaction. Conversion was determined and, in the case of the reaction with styrene, the isomeric product distribution was monitored by GC. In the case of the reaction with methyl acrylate the reactor was scaled from a 1.0 mm to 3.9 mm internal diameter and the conversion and turnover frequency determined. The results show that the Heck reaction can be effectively performed in scCO2 under continuous flow conditions with a palladium metal, phosphine-free catalyst, but care must be taken when selecting the reaction temperature in order to ensure the appropriate isomer distribution is achieved. Higher reaction temperatures were found to enhance formation of the branched terminal alkene isomer as opposed to the linear trans-isomer.

Abstract
Carrying out organic reactions in water-based nanoreactors represents a ‘green’ method for the preparation of organic compounds. This process eliminates the need for solvents, thus reducing the effect of high volumes of solvent on the environment. In this work, we demonstrate a successful Heck cross-coupling reaction, one of the most used approaches to form C–C bonds using a palladium catalyst, in a miniemulsion. The miniemulsion droplet sizes were small (25 to 42 nm), and the reactions resulted in high conversions of three different products with high trans stereoisomers.

Abstract
The initiation and high resolution control of surface confined chemical reactions would be both beneficial for nanofabrication and fundamentally interesting. In this work, mechanistic aspects of spatially confined Suzuki and Heck 'catalytic nanolithography' are investigated by varying the experimental parameters and noting their effects on apparent reactivity and lithographic yield. A variety of molecular couplings can be driven by the activated scanning probe with linewidths ultimately limited by its functional apex. On ramping the speed at which the probe traverses the surface confined reagent, one reaches a limit where the catalytic chemistry becomes limiting and reaction rates can be estimated. Self-assembled monolayer (SAM) confined bromide reagents are observed to be more labile than their iodide analogues in Suzuki couplings. With Heck reactions, coupling rates are observed to be faster with the styrene surface confined than in the 'inverted configuration' with an aryl halide SAM, possibly because the accepted (solution phase) rate-determining step is bypassed in the former configuration. For both Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions, calculations indicate that catalyst turnover numbers per nanoparticle are an order of magnitude or more greater within the confines of the AFM probe-surface junction compared to solution phase reactions. A PVP matrix model is presented to account for these observations and the mechanism of catalytic nanolithography.

Abstract
A tandem sequence involving palladium-catalyzed sequential Heck-reduction-cyclization transformations in mild conditions has been developed for the synthesis of oxindoles. The protocol involves inexpensive reagents and does not require any additives such as base or ligands.
