Abstract
In this article, hyperbranched polyester grafted graphene oxide (GO) was successfully prepared. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed for its characterizations. On the other hand, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) were also performed to study its influences on non-isothermal crystallization behaviors of β-nucleated isotactic polypropylene (β-iPP). The grafting ratios of hyperbranched polyester with different supermolecular structures were calculated to be 19.8-24.0 wt %, which increase with the degree of branching. The results showed that the grafting of hyperbranched polyester was advantageous in increasing the crystallization peak temperature Tp and decreasing the crystallization activation energy ΔE of β-iPP/GO composites, which contributed to the iPP's crystallization process. Moreover, under all cooling rates (2, 5, 10, 20, 40 °C/min), crystallinities of β-iPP/GO were greatly improved after being grafted with hyperbranched polyester, because of the increase of the relative contents of α-phase αc and the average α-crystal sizes.

Abstract
In this paper, the influence of ordered structure effects (OSE) on crystallization behaviors of β-nucleated isotactic polypropylene/graphene oxide (β-iPP/GO) composites with different thermal histories, which crystallized at a slow cooling rate (called SLOW), fast cooling rate (called FAST) and medium cooling rate (called MED), respectively, was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The ordered structure status of three samples before crystallization measurement was controlled by tuning the fusion temperature Tf and melting time tm. The results showed that for all samples, OSE would occur in an appropriate Tf region (Region II). The OSE efficiency of MED was the highest, while that of SLOW were the lowest. It was also found that the crystallinity and crystalline perfection of SLOW were the highest, while those of FAST were the lowest. The effects of the melting time tm on the OSE were also investigated. At Tf = 172 °C, the OSE efficiency of FAST reached the maximum at tm = 5 min, while that of SLOW reached the maximum at tm = 20 min. It was indicated that the OSE efficiency was affected by thermal history, and it could be improved by selecting the appropriate tm. Related mechanisms concerning the roles of thermal history on the OSE behavior were proposed based on the results of DSC and in situ SAXS. In this paper, the influence of ordered structure effects on crystallization behaviors of β-nucleated isotactic polypropylene/graphene oxide composites with different thermal histories was studied.![]()

Abstract
AbstractThe effects of phosphate nucleating agent (NA), carboxylate nucleating agent (MD), rosin type nucleating agent (WA) and sorbitol nucleating agent (NX) on crystallization behavior of isotactic polypropylene were investigated by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized light microscopy (PLM). The results showed that different structure nucleating agents significantly affected the crystallization kinetics, rate and temperature of polypropylene. Among them, half crystallization time of NX nucleating agent was the shortest, which was 53.4 seconds, and the crystallization temperature was the highest, reaching 129.8°C.

Abstract
Understanding the structure formation of an ordered domain in the early stage of crystallization is one of the long-standing issues in polymer science. In this study, we investigate the chain trajectory of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) formed via rapid and deep quenching, using solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Comparisons of experimental and simulated 13C-13C double quantum (DQ) buildup curves demonstrated that individual iPP chains adopt adjacent re-entry sequences with an average folding number ⟨n⟩ = 3-4 in the mesomorphic form, assuming an adjacent re-entry fraction ⟨F⟩ of 100%. Therefore, long flexible polymer chains naturally fold in the early stage of crystallization, and folding-initiated nucleation results in formation of mesomorphic nanodomains.

Abstract
Understanding the local packing structures of a disordered mesomorphic phase is a challenging issue in polymer characterization. In this work, 13C-13C through-space interactions, as well as a molecular dynamics analysis based on the reorientation of chemical shift anisotropy (CSA), were proposed for the evaluation of the local packing structure of the mesomorphic form of isotactic polypropylene (iPP). 13C-13C double quantum (DQ) buildup curves of 13C 15% CH3 selectively labeled iPP and spin-dynamics simulations demonstrated that the local packing structures in the mesomorphic form were very similar to the packing in the β phase. Moreover, centerband only detection of exchange (CODEX) NMR proved that the correlation time ⟨τc⟩ of the overall stem dynamics in the mesomorphic form followed the same Arrhenius line observed for the β phase, but it deviated from that for the α phase. Based on both structural and dynamic results, it was concluded that the local packing structure in the mesomorphic form was exceedingly close or the same as that of the β phase.

Abstract
There is large interest in replicating biological supramolecular structures in inorganic materials that are capable of mimicking biological properties. The use of 5-guanosine monophosphate in the presence of Na(+) and K(+) ions as a supramolecular template for the synthesis of well-ordered mesostructured materials is reported here. Mesostructured particles with the confined template exhibit high structural order at both meso- and atomic scales, with a lower structural symmetry in the columnar mesophase. Although a chiral space group can not be deduced from X-ray diffraction, analysis by electron microscopy and circular dichroism confirms a chiral stacking arrangement along the c-axis. Guanosine monophosphate based mesophases thus illustrate the possibility for specific molecular imprinting of mesoporous materials by genetic material and the potential for higher definition in molecular recognition.

Abstract
The melting behaviors of α (stable) and β (metastable) isotactic polypropylene (iPP) crystals at ultrafast heating rates are simulated with atomistic molecular dynamics method. Quantitative information about the melting processes of α- and β-iPP crystals at atomistic level is achieved. The result shows that the melting process starts from the interfaces of lamellar crystal through random dislocation of iPP chains along the perpendicular direction of lamellar crystal structure. In the melting process, the lamellar crystal gradually expands but the corresponding thickness decreases. The analysis shows that the system expansion lags behind the crystallinity decreasing and the lagging extents for α- and β-iPP are significantly different. The apparent melting points of α- and β-iPP crystals rise with the increase of the heating rate and lamellar crystal thickness. The apparent melting point of α-iPP crystal is always higher than that of β-iPP at differently heating rates. Applying the Gibbs-Thomson rule and the scaling property of the melting kinetics, the equilibrium melting points of perfect α- and β-iPP crystals are finally predicted and it shows a good agreement with experimental result.

Abstract
Abstract
The combination of moderately slow crystal growth at large undercoolings together with the practical absence of sporadic nucleation makes isotactic polypropylene (iPP) an ideal material for controlled nucleation. In this review the different types of nucleating agents – inorganic and organic, particulate and soluble – for the different crystal modifications of iPP (α, β and γ) are presented together with their working mechanism and criteria for activity. The interaction between polymer type, nucleating agent and processing conditions in determining mechanical and optical properties conclude the survey.
