Abstract
We report a transition metal-catalyzed ring expansion of azulene that can be contrasted with C-H functionalization. This study represents the first example of the successful ring expansion of azulene using Cu(hfacac)2 (hfacac: hexafluoroacetylacetonate) with a diazo reagent. This result is notable for extending the Buchner reaction, previously limited to benzenoid aromatics, to nonbenzenoid compounds. The chemoselectivity of the reaction can be directed towards C-H functionalization by substituting the Cu catalyst with AgOTf. This approach does not require the addition of phosphine, NHC, or related ligands, and prefunctionalization of azulenes is unnecessary. Furthermore, the method exhibits excellent functional group tolerance, allowing for the synthesis of a wide range of 6,7-bicyclic compounds and C-H functionalized azulenes. We also present a theoretical study that explains the experimental observations, explaining why copper afford the ring expansion product while silver forms the C-H alkylation product.

Abstract
The diazo-transfer reaction of nonactivated ketone under mild reaction conditions was developed. Various nonactivated ketones such as aryl methyl ketones, sec-alkyl methyl ketones, and cyclic ketones were transformed into their corresponding α-diazoketones in one step by treating 2-azido-1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolium hexafluorophosphate (IPrAP) in the presence of iPr2NH in ethylene glycol. In the reaction of IPrAP with prim-alkyl methyl ketone and prim-alkyl aryl ketones, migratory amidation proceeded under the reaction conditions to afford the corresponding amides.

Abstract
Cyclopropanes are highly useful motifs that are often incorporated into drug candidates to improve potency, metabolic stability, or pharmacokinetic properties. An expedient method for the α-cyclopropanation of ketones using hydrogen borrowing (HB) catalysis is described. The transformation occurs via HB alkylation of a hindered ketone with subsequent intramolecular displacement of a pendant leaving group affording the cyclopropanated product. The leaving group can be installed in either the ketone or alcohol component of the HB system, giving access to α-cyclopropyl ketones via two complementary approaches. Conversion to the corresponding carboxylic acids can be achieved in a simple two-step sequence to afford synthetically useful 1,1-substituted spirocyclopropyl acid building blocks.

Abstract
A simple, broad-scope rhodium(I)/chiral diene catalytic system for challenging asymmetric intramolecular cyclopropanation of various tri-substituted allylic diazoacetates was successfully developed. The low coordination state RhI -complex exhibits an extraordinarily high degree of tolerance to the variation in the extent of substitution of the allyl double bond, thus allowing the efficient construction of a wide range of penta-substituted, fused-ring cyclopropanes bearing three contiguous stereogenic centers, including two quaternary carbon stereocenters, in a highly enantioselective manner with ease at catalyst loading as low as 0.1 mol %. The stereoinduction mode of this RhI -carbene-directed asymmetric intramolecular cyclopropanation was investigated by DFT calculations, indicating that π-π stacking interactions between the aromatic rings of chiral diene ligand and diazo substrate play a key role in the control of the reaction enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Intermolecular cyclopropanation of mono-, di-, and trisubstituted olefins with α-bromo-β-ketoesters and α-bromomalonates under organophotocatalysis is reported. The reaction displays broad functional group tolerance, including substrates bearing acids, alcohols, halides, ethers, ketones, nitriles, esters, amides, carbamates, silanes, stannanes, boronic esters, as well as arenes, and furnishes highly substituted cyclopropanes. The transformation may be performed in the presence of air and moisture with 0.5 mol % of a benzothiazinoquinoxaline as organophotocatalyst. Mechanistic investigations, involving Stern-Volmer quenching, quantum yield determination, and deuteration experiments, are carried out, and a catalytic cycle for the transformation is discussed.

Abstract
Chiral Lewis acid-catalyzed asymmetric alcohol addition reactions to cyclic carbonyl ylides generated from N-(α-diazocarbonyl)-2-oxazolidinones featuring a dual catalytic system are reported. Construction of a chiral quaternary heteroatom-substituted carbon center was accomplished in which the unique heterobicycles were obtained in good yields with high stereoselection. The alcohol adducts were successfully converted to optically active oxazolidine-2,4-diones by hydrolysis. Mechanistic studies by DFT calculations revealed that alcohols could be activated by Lewis acids, enabling enantioselective protonation of the carbonyl ylides.

Abstract
The intramolecular C-H insertions of carbenes derived from 2-diazo-2-sulfamoylacetamides were studied. 2-Diazo-2-sulfamoylacetamides were first prepared from chloroacetyl chloride and secondary amines through acylation followed by sequential treatments with sodium sulfite, phosphorus oxychloride, secondary amines, and 4-nitrobenzenesulfonyl azide. The results indicate that: (1) 2-diazo-N,N-dimethyl-2-(N,N-diphenylsulfamoyl)acetamide can take the formal aromatic 1,5-C-H insertion in its N-phenylsulfonamide moiety to afford the corresponding 1,3-dihydrobenzo[c]isothiazole-3-carboxamide 2,2-dioxide derivative; (2) no aliphatic C-H insertions occur for 2-diazo-2-(N,N-dialkylsulfamoyl)acetamides; and (3) for 2-diazo-N-phenyl-2-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)acetamides, the formal aromatic 1,5-C-H insertion in the N-phenylacetamide moiety is favorable to afford the corresponding 3-sulfamoylindolin-2-one derivatives as sole or major products. The intramolecular competitive aromatic 1,5-C-H insertion reactions of 2-diazo-2-sulfamoylacetamides with aryl groups on both amide and sulfonamide groups reveal that the N-aryl substituents on acetamide are more active than those on sulfonamide. The chemoselectivity is controlled by electronic effect of the aryl group.

Abstract
An efficient transition metal-free approach for the generation of acceptor/acceptor-carbene followed by trapping with alkenes to provide fluoroacetyl cyclopropanes has been described. The resulting cyclopropanes could be further converted into the fluoromethyl dihydrofurans or fluorodihydropyrroles through ring-expansion processes.

Abstract
The selective functionalisation of C-H bonds is a powerful strategy for the construction of organic molecules and the Rh(II)-catalysed C-H insertion reaction is a particularly robust and useful tool for this purpose. This review discusses the insertion of Rh(II) carbenes into C-H bonds that are activated by α-oxygen substituents, focusing on the trends that have been observed in reactivity and selectivity, and the applications of this reaction to the total synthesis of complex natural products.
