Abstract
Metal complexes have numerous applications in the current era, particularly in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry and catalysis. A novel synthetic approach for the same is always a beneficial addition to the literature. Henceforth, for the first time, we report the formation of three new Pd(II) complexes through the Michael addition pathway. Three chromone-based thiosemicarbazone ligands (SVSL1-SVSL3) and Pd(II) complexes (1-3) were synthesized and characterized by analytical and spectroscopic tools. The Michael addition pathway for the formation of complexes was confirmed by spectroscopic studies. Distorted square planar structure of complex 2 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1-3 were subjected to DNA- and BSA-binding studies. The complex with cyclohexyl substituent on the terminal N of thiosemicarbazone (3) showed the highest binding efficacy toward these biomolecules, which was further understood through molecular docking studies. The anticancer potential of these complexes was studied preliminarily by using MTT assay in cancer and normal cell lines along with the benchmark drugs (cisplatin, carboplatin, and gemcitabine). It was found that complex 3 was highly toxic toward MDA-MB-231 and AsPC-1 cancer cells with IC50 values of 0.5 and 0.9 μM, respectively, and was more efficient than the standard drugs. The programmed cell death mechanism of the complexes in MDA-MB-231 cancer cells was confirmed. Furthermore, the complexes induced apoptosis via ROS-mediated mitochondrial signaling pathway. Conveniently, all the complexes showed less toxicity (≥50 μM) against MCF-10a normal cell line. Molecular docking studies were performed with VEGFR2, EGFR, and SARS-CoV-2 main protease to illustrate the binding efficiency of the complexes with these receptors. To our surprise, binding potential of the complexes with SARS-CoV-2 main protease was higher than that with chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.

Abstract
Base catalysed ring opening ring closure (RORC) reaction of 6-methylchromone-3‑carbonitrile (1) with 1,3-cyclohexanedione afforded 8-methyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-chromeno[2,3-b]quinoline-4,6(3H)-dione (MDCQD). Theoretical calculations by Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311G (d,p) level of theory was utilized to illustrate the equilibrium geometries of MDCQD. Also, the nonlinear optical properties, simple harmonic vibrational frequencies, thermo-chemical parameters and Mullikan atomic charges were calculated. In addition, the electronic absorption spectra in polar and non polar solvents were discussed on the basis of TD-DFT calculations. A nanofiber-like structure with high aggregation was resolved by using scanning electron microscopy images and its particle sizes were measured by particle size analyzer. The spectroscopic characteristics of the prepared thin film of MDCQD were studied in a wide spectral range of 200-2500nm. The analysis of the absorption edges affords two direct optical band gaps with energies of 1.00 and 2.76eV. A characteristic emission peak of photoluminescence spectrum in the visible region was detected and has a red-shift as a result of solvent polarity. The MDCQD film based heterojunction showed rectification behavior and diode-like characteristics. The photovoltaic characteristics under illumination of 100mW/cm2 were studied. The open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current were found to be 0.22V and 4.25×10-7A/cm2, respectively. Moreover, the prepared heterojunction showed remarkable phototransient characteristics which afford the probability for the operation as a photodiode.

Abstract
Ln(III) complexes with chromone-3-carbaldehyde-(2′-hydroxy)benzoyl hydrazone as the Schiff base ligand have been synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, 1H NMR, mass spectra, UV–Vis spectra, and IR spectra. Electronic absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, ethidium bromide displacement experiments and viscosity measurements indicate that the free ligand and its Ln(III) complexes, especially the La(III) complex, bind strongly to calf thymus DNA via an intercalation mechanism. The intrinsic binding constants of the free ligand, La(III) complex, Sm(III) complex and Er(III) complex with DNA were (2.20±0.12) x 105 M−1, (8.83±0.04) x 106 M−1, (7.35±0.07) x 106 M−1 and (3.24±0.04) x 106 M−1, respectively. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of the ligand and its Ln(III) complexes was determined by the superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging method in vitro, which indicates that the ligand and its Ln(III) complexes are efficient antioxidants and the Ln(III) complexes exhibit more effective antioxidant activity than the free ligand alone and some standard antioxidants, such as mannitol and vitamin C.

Abstract
Cyanobacterial fructose-1,6-/sedoheptulose-1,7-bisphoshatase (Cy-FBP/SBPase) is an important target enzyme for finding inhibitors to solve harmful algal bloom (HAB). In this study, as potential inhibitors of Cy-FBP/SBPase, a series of novel chromone-connecting benzohydrazone compounds (Novel N'-((4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide) were designed and synthesized. Their inhibitory activities against Cy-FBP/SBPase were further examined in vitro. Some of these compounds, such as f6-f8, f11, f12 and f16, exhibit higher inhibitory activities (IC50=11.2-16.1 μM), especially, the compound f7 was identified as the most potent inhibitor with IC50 value of 11.2 μM. The probable binding-mode of compound f7 was further analyzed carefully by molecular docking methods. These results indicate that compound f7 could be used as a lead compound for further optimization and might have potential to be developed as a new algicide.

Abstract
Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized from different Schiff bases, such as 3-((2-hydroxy phenylimino)methyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (HL(1)), 2-((4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl)methylneamino) benzoicacid (HL(2)), 3-((3-hydroxypyridin-2-ylimino)methyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (HL(3)) and 3-((2-mercaptophenylimino)methyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (HL(4)). The complexes were characterized by analytical, molar conductance, IR, electronic, magnetic, ESR, thermal, powder XRD and SEM studies. The analytical data reveal that metal to ligand molar ratio is 1:2 in all the complexes. Molar conductivity data indicates that all the Cu(II) complexes are neutral. On the basis of magnetic and electronic spectral data, distorted octahedral geometry is proposed for all the Cu(II) complexes. Thermal behaviour of the synthesized complexes illustrates the presence of lattice water molecules in the complexes. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that all the ligands and their Cu(II) complexes have triclinic system with different unit cell parameters. Antimicrobial, antioxidant and DNA cleavage activities indicate that metal complexes exhibited greater activity as compared with ligands.

Abstract
Azo-Schiff-base complexes of VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, mass spectra, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurement, electron spin resonance (EPR), CV, fluorescence, NLO and SEM. The conductance data indicate the nonelectrolytic nature of the complexes, except VO(II) complex which is electrolytic in nature. On the basis of electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility octahedral geometry has been proposed for the complexes. The EPR spectra of copper and oxovanadium complexes in DMSO at 300 and 77K were recorded and its salient features are reported. The redox behavior of the copper(II) complex was studied using cyclic voltammetry. The in vitro antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica typhi, Bacillus subtilis and Candida strains was studied and compared with that of free ligand by well-diffusion technique. The azo Schiff base exhibited fluorescence properties originating from intraligand (π-π(*)) transitions and metal-mediated enhancement is observed on complexation and so the synthesized complexes can serve as potential photoactive materials as indicated from their characteristic fluorescence properties. On the basis of the optimized structures, the second-order nonlinear optical properties (NLO) are calculated by using second-harmonic generation (SHG) and also the surface morphology of the complexes was studied by SEM.

Abstract
Coordination compounds of VO(IV), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with the Schiff base obtained through the condensation of 2-aminothiazole with 3-formyl chromone were synthesized. The compounds were characterized by (1)H, (13)C NMR, UV-Vis, IR, Mass, EPR, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The Cu(II) complex possesses tetrahedrally distorted square planar geometry whereas Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) show distorted tetrahedral geometry. The VO(IV) complex shows square pyramidal geometry. The cyclic voltammogram of Cu (II) complex showed a well defined redox couple Cu(II)/Cu(I) with quasireversible nature. The antimicrobial activity against the species Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albigans and Aspergillus niger was screened and compared to the activity of the ligand. Emission spectrum was recorded for the ligand and the metal(II) complexes. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency was measured and found to have one fourth of the activity of urea. The SEM image of the copper(II) complex implies that the size of the particles is 2 μm.

Abstract
This study deals with the identification of a title compound, 3-[(2-morpholinoethylimino)methyl]benzene-1,2-diol by means of quantum chemical calculations. The optimized molecular structures, vibrational frequencies and corresponding vibrational assignments, thermodynamic properties, charge analyses, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectra of the title molecule in the ground state were evaluated using density functional theory (DFT) with the standard B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method and basis set combination for the first time. Theoretical vibrational spectra of the title compound were interpreted with the aid of normal coordinate analysis based on scaled density functional force field. The results show that the obtained optimized geometric parameters (bond lengths, bond angles and bond dihedrals) and vibrational frequencies were observed to be in good agreement with the available experimental results. Moreover, the calculations of the electronic spectra, (13)C and (1)H chemical shifts were compared with the experimental ones. Furthermore, we not only simulated the frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) but also determined the transition states and energy band gaps, as well. It was found that charge analyses supported the evidences of MEP. Infrared intensities and Raman activities were also reported.
