Abstract
The trinuclear complexes [{PdI2(pyCl)}3(L1)] C1 and [{PdI2(pyCl)}3(L2)] C2, where pyCl = 3-chloropyridine, L1 = methyl(cyclotriguaiacylenyl)methylbenzimidazol-2-ylidene and L2 = benzyl(cyclotriguaiacylenyl)methylbenzimidazol-2-ylidene, each feature three palladium N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) centres tethered onto a host-type cyclotriguaiacylene scaffold. Crystal structures of different solvates of complex C1 reveal different host-guest motifs including intra-cavity binding of dioxane guests concomitant with intramolecular halogen bonding interactions of C1. Mononuclear NHC analogues of C1 and C2, namely [PdI2(pyCl)(L3)] C3 and [PdI2(pyCl)(L4)] C4, where L3 = (3-chloropyridyl)-1-(2-methoxyphenyoxy)methyl-3-methylbenzimidazol-2-ylidene and L4 = (3-chloropyridyl)-1-(2-methoxyphenyoxy)methyl-3-benzylbenzimidazol-2-ylidene, were also synthesised and their crystal structures determined. Complexes C1-C4 are competent catalysts for Suzuki Miyaura cross-coupling, and interestingly exhibit a switch in the normal regioselectivity observed for reactions of 2,4-dibromopyridine with aryl boronic acids, usually C2-selective, yielding C4-arylated product preferentially over C2-arylated product.

Abstract
The syntheses of novel hydrazono acyclic nucleosides similar to miconazole scaffolds are described. In this series of acyclic nucleosides, pyrimidine as well as purine and other azole derivatives replaced the imidazole function in miconazole and the ether group was replaced with a hydrazone moiety using phenylhydrazine. To interpret the dominant formation of (E)-hydrazone derivatives rather than (Z)-isomers, PM3 semiempirical quantum mechanic calculations were carried out which indicated that the (E)-isomers had the lower heats of formation.

Abstract
In view of obtaining some potential antibacterial compounds, we have described synthesis of some chloroaryloxyalkyl imidazole and benzimidazole derivatives. The relevant step in the synthetic sequence was the initial condensation of 4-chloro or 2,4-dichlorophenol with 1, n-dibromoalkanes (n=2, 4, 5) to provide compounds 3a-f in sufficient yields. The subsequent condensation of 3a-f with some imidazole derivatives and benzimidazole afforded products 4a-l and 5a-e in good yields. Some of compounds 4a-l as well as 5a-e were tested in vitro against Salmonella typhi O-901 and Staphylococcus aureus A 15091. Compounds 4a and 4c showed considerable bactericidal activities against tested bacteria. Compound 4b showed significant activity against S. aureus A 15091 but was inactive against S. typhi O-901. Other compounds showed intermediate activities against S. aureus A 15091 but most of them were inactive against S. typhi O-901. Semiempirical AM1 calculations showed that negative electrostatic potentials around oxygen of the phenoxy and nitrogen of the imidazole moieties have direct effect on the antibacterial activity towards S. aureus A 15091. In QSAR analysis, different electronic, topologic, functional groups and physicochemical descriptors were calculated for each molecule and a three parametric equation was found between the logMIC and HOMO energy, hydration energy and number of primary carbon atoms of the molecules.

Abstract
The Rh(II)-catalyzed reaction of dimethyl diazomalonate with aryl aldehydes and beta-nitrostyrenes results in the formation of highly substituted tetrahydrofurans. The reaction may be considered to involve the Huisgen dipolar cycloaddition of the carbonyl ylide, generated from the dicarbomethoxycarbene and the aldehyde, to the beta-nitrostyrene. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction may be attributed to the concerted nature of the carbonyl ylide cycloaddition.
