Abstract
The natural stilbenoid dehydro-δ-viniferin, containing a benzofuran core, has been recently identified as a promising antimicrobial agent. To define the structural elements relevant to its activity, we modified the styryl moiety, appended at C5 of the benzofuran ring. In this paper, we report the construction of stilbenoid-derived 2,3-diaryl-5-substituted benzofurans, which allowed us to prepare a focused collection of dehydro-δ-viniferin analogues. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against S. aureus ATCC29213. The simplified analogue 5,5'-(2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzofuran-3,5-diyl)bis(benzene-1,3-diol), obtained in three steps from 4-bromo-2-iodophenol (63% overall yield), emerged as a promising candidate for further investigation (MIC = 4 µg/mL).

Abstract
Covering: 2010 to 2020This review article describes how cationic rearrangement reactions have been used in natural product total synthesis over the last decade as a case study for the many productive ways by which isomerization reactions are enabling for synthesis. This review argues that isomerization reactions in particular are well suited for computational evaluation, as relatively simple calculations can provide significant insight.

Abstract
With the advent of senolytic agents capable of selectively removing senescent cells in old tissues, the perception of age-associated diseases has been changing from being an inevitable to a preventable phenomenon of human life. In the search for materials with senolytic activity from natural products, six new flavonostilbenes (1-6), three new phenylethylchromanones (7-9), three new phenylethylchromones (10-12), and four known compounds (13-16) were isolated from the roots of Rhamnoneuron balansae. The chemical structures of these isolated compounds were determined based on the interpretation of spectroscopic data, including 1D and 2D NMR, ECD, and HRMS. The absolute configuration of compound 1 was also determined by a Mosher ester analysis and ECD calculations. Compounds 6-8 were shown to selectively destroy senescent cells, and the promoter activity of p16INK4A, a representative senescence marker, was reduced significantly by compound 6. The present results suggest the potential activity of flavonostilbene and phenylethylchromanone skeletons from R. balansae as new senolytics.

Abstract
Resveratrol-based natural products constitute a valuable source of unique compounds with diverse biological activities. In this report we investigate demethylation strategies to minimize formation of cyclized and dimerized products during the synthesis of viniferifuran and analogues. We found that boron trichloride/tetra-n-butylammonium iodide (BCl3/TBAI) is typically more effective than boron tribromide (BBr3). Based on these findings we carried out the first syntheses of dehydro-δ-viniferin, resveratrol-piceatannol hybrid and anigopreissin A. In addition, we have developed a short and efficient route to viniferifuran that was obtained in 13% yield over six steps.

Abstract
Synthetic isorhapontigenin was treated with several kinds of inorganic reagents and peroxidase so as to prepare active stilbene dimers. Among them, silver acetate in methanol gave two new isorhapontigenin dimers 4 and 5, together with four known natural stilbene dimers 2, 3, 6, and 7. Their structures and relative configurations were determined on the basis of spectral analysis, and their possible formation mechanisms were discussed, respectively. Compounds 2, 6, and 7 were artificially synthesized for the first time. All the products were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activities.

Abstract
Resveratrol polymer has better effects than monomer in some aspects as reported, but most of synthetic methods acquire severe conditions and no analgesic effects are investigated. A novel method is found to synthesize resveratrol polymer by excitation of photosensitizer pheophorbide at red light of 630 nm. The polymer was analyzed by fluorescence spectra and HPLC, further isolated by preparative liquid chromatography and identified as a resveratrol dimer by MS and NMR. Analgesic effects were measured by acetic acid writhing and hot-plate test in mice. The resveratrol dimer has the stronger analgesic effects than monomer, and drug combination of the dimer and cobra neurotoxin enhances and prolongs analgesic effects, suggesting the synergistic action. Simulation of molecular interaction reveals that the dimer spontaneously binds to cobra neurotoxin and makes a complex substance. The dimer can interact with cyclooxygenase-2, μ receptor and nicotine receptor, the synergistic analgesic effects of the complex are attributed to its multiple targets role. The combination of resveratrol dimer and cobra neurotoxin may make up for their deficiencies in analgesic effects, and has prospects in clinical use.

Abstract
In the Vitaceae, viniferins represent a relatively restricted group of trans-resveratrol oligomers with antifungal properties, thus enabling plants to cope with pathogen attack. The aim of this study was to perform isolation and structural characterization of the whole class of viniferins accumulating in the leaves of hybrid Vitis vinifera (Merzling × Teroldego) genotypes infected with Plasmopara viticola . Infected leaves of resistant plants were collected 6 days after infection, extracted with methanol, and prepurified by flash chromatography using ENV+ and Toyopearl HW 40S resins. Further fractionation using normal-phase preparative chromatography and then reversed-phase preparative chromatography allowed isolation of 14 peaks. The isolated compounds were identified using advanced mass spectrometry techniques and extensive one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, UV, CD, optical properties, and molecular mechanic calculations. The results demonstrated the presence in infected leaves of seven dimers (six stilbenes and one stilbenoid), of which four were new in grapevine (ampelopsin D, quadrangularin A, E-ω-viniferin, and Z-ω-viniferin), four trimers (three stilbenes and one stilbenoid), of which two (Z-miyabenol C and E-cis-miyabenol C) were new in grapevine, three tetramer stilbenoids, all new in grapevine, isohopeaphenol, ampelopsin H, and a vaticanol C-like isomer. The isolation of a dimer deriving from the condensation of (+)-catechin with trans-caffeic acid also indicated that other preformed phenolics are structurally modified in tissues infected with P. viticola.

Abstract
We report in this study the synthesis, crystal culture, and single-crystal X-ray crystallography of two new kinds of double stilbene, which were readily prepared from trinitro-p-xylene and p-tolualdehyde in the presence of piperidine. We found that these triclinic crystals belong to the space group P-1. These compounds were also investigated using FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS spectroscopy techniques. The thermal decomposition processes of the compounds were tested by DSC and TG-DTG at a heating rate of 10 C/min. These results indicate that the compounds have high heat-resistant stability.Key words: polynitrostilbene, molecular structure, thermal decomposition.
