Abstract
An efficient iron-catalyzed asymmetric [4 + 2] cycloaddition of cyclopentadiene with α,β-unsaturated acyl imidazoles or 2-cinnamoylisoindoline-1,3-dione derivatives was developed to afford the addition products in high yield and selectivity. Interestingly, the absolute structures of the addition products were controlled by the auxiliaries via different coordination modes with the same type of catalyst.

Abstract
A series of air-stable trigonal bipyramidal FeIII complexes supported by a redox non-innocent NNN pincer ligand, Cz tBu(PyrR)2 - (R = iPr, Me, or H), were synthesized, fully characterized, and utilized for the investigation of the interaction between acetone and the FeIII center. The magnetic moments determined from the paramagnetic 1H NMR spectra in conjunction with EPR and Mössbauer spectroscopy indicate the presence of a high-spin ferric center. Cyclic voltammetry studies feature two quasi-reversible events corresponding to a metal-centered FeIII/II reduction around -0.40 V (vs. Fc) and a ligand-centered Cz tBu(PyrR)2/Cz tBu(PyrR)2 •+ oxidation at potentials near +0.70 V (vs. Fc). UV-Visible spectroscopy in CH2Cl2 showcases ligand-metal charge transfer (LMCT) bands, as well as coordination of acetone to Cz tBu(PyrH)2FeCl2. In situ IR spectroscopy and solution conductivity (κ) measurements of Cz tBu(PyrR)2FeCl2 with varied equivalents of acetone reveal that acetone is weakly associated with the iron center.

Abstract
A new family of sulfinamide/sulfoxide derivatives was synthesized as chiral bidentate ligands by stereoselective additions of methylsulfinyl carbanions to N-tert-butylsulfinylimines. The new ligands, with C1, pseudo-meso, and pseudo-C2 symmetries, were successfully assayed in Rh-catalyzed additions of arylboronic acids to activated ketones. The sterically dissymmetric C1 ligand (RS,SC,RS)-N-[1-(phenylsulfinyl)-3-methylbut-2-yl] tert-butylsulfinamide turned out to be the optimal one, allowing the 1,4-additions of diverse arylboronic acids, on different α,β-unsaturated cyclic ketones with high chemical yields and enantioselectivities up to >99% ee.

Abstract
A novel chiral disulfoxide ligand pair bearing fluorine atoms at the 6 and 6' position of its atropisomeric backbone, ( M, S, S)- and ( P, S, S)- p-Tol-6F-BIPHESO, was synthesized. Complexation to a rhodium(I) precursor gave rise to μ-Cl- and μ-OH-bridged rhodium dimer complexes incorporating the new ( M, S, S)- p-Tol-6F-BIPHESO ligand, while its sibling ( P, S, S)- p-Tol-6F-BIPHESO was not complexed efficiently to the rhodium precursor. The performance of this disulfoxide ligand [( M, S, S)- p-Tol-6F-BIPHESO] in catalysis was tested in both 1,4- and 1,2-addition reactions of arylboronic acids. We show that addition to both cyclic and acyclic enones as well as N-tosylarylimines proceeds with high yields and high enantioselectivities to give the corresponding products. The synthesis of enantiomerically pure p-Tol-6F-BIPHESO is straightforward and inexpensive which, together with the high catalytic performance and wide substrate scope for these addition reactions, makes it a very attractive alternative to more classical chiral ligand entities.

Abstract
Sulfoxides are capable of forming stable complexes with transition metals and there have been many comprehensive studies into their binding properties. However, the use of sulfoxides, particularly chiral sulfoxides, as ligands in transition metal catalysis is rather less well developed. This review aims to describe these catalytic studies and covers new developments that are showing very promising results and that have led to a renewed interest in this field.

Abstract
A computational study with density functional theory (DFT) is carried out on the reaction between methyl sulfinyl chloride (MSC) and methanol in the presence of trimethylamine, a process which is a general model for two different methods used in practice for the obtention of chiral sulfoxides through dynamic kinetic resolution. Two mechanistic options are considered: in one of them, chloride is initially displaced by the base (ion pair mechanism), whereas in the other, chloride stays bound to sulfur until its final displacement by methoxy (neutral mechanism). In both cases, the approach of the alcohol to sulfur is coupled with a hydrogen transfer from methanol to the oxo group of MSC in a single concerted transition state. The presence of a trimethylamine molecule facilitates substantially the reaction by reducing the nucleophilic substitution barrier by more than 10 kcal/mol through the formation of a N-H bond with the hydrogen atom being transferred. The neutral mechanism presents a free energy barrier lower than the ion pair alternative and is thus preferred.

Abstract
A comparative study on the allylation of a benzoyl hydrazone with allyl trichlorosilane using monosulfoxides, methylene-bridged C2-symmetric bissulfoxides, and ethylene-bridged C2-symmetric bissulfoxides shows that the enantioselectivity of the process is highly dependent on the spacer between the two sulfinyl sulfurs and the concentration of the reaction.
