Abstract
Arene C-H aminations using catalytic amounts of a 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ) photocatalyst are described. Benzene, which has an oxidation potential of 2.48 V (vs SCE), was functionalized by pyrazoles, triazoles, tetrazoles, purines, and tert-butoxycarbonyl amine. Arenes underwent amination via a combination of ultraviolet (UV) light and a DDQ photocatalyst without a typical co-oxidant. Although the mechanism remains an open question, DDQH2, which is generated from DDQ after oxidation, is reactivated to DDQ under UV light irradiation conditions, possibly with the assistance of adventitious O2 and/or a solvent as the terminal oxidant(s) in this system.

Abstract
Aim and Objective:
Benzoxazoles are of great importance in natural products, pharmaceutical agents as well as synthetic intermediates. Although many works reported on construction of benzoxazoles by Cu-catalyzed intramolecular O-arylation of ortho-haloanilides have been improved, there are very few reports about transition metal-catalyzed synthesis of benzoxazoles from inactive 2-chloroanilides so far. This work is to explore a green and cheap protocol for intramolecular O-arylation of inactive 2-chloroanilides to prepare 2-arylbenzoxazoles.
Materials and Methods:
We have found Cu(acac)2/1,10-Phen complex was beneficial to intramolecular O-arylation of 2-chloroanilides using K2CO3 as base in EtOH at 90 oC to prepare benzoxazoles.
Results:
An efficient and green method was developed for Cu(II)-catalyzed intramolecular O-arylation of inactive 2-chloroanilides.
Conclusion:
In this way, many 2-arylbenzoxazoles were prepared in good yields.

Abstract
Abstract:
Abstract: This unprecedented review with 322 references provides a critical up-to-date picture of the Pd-catalysed intermolecular direct C–H bond arylation of heteroarenes with arylating reagents alternative to aryl halides that include aryl sulfonates (aryl triflates, tosylates, mesylates, and imidazole-1-sulfonates), diaryliodonium salts, [(diacetoxy)iodo]arenes, arenediazonium salts, 1-aryltriazenes, arylhydrazines and N’-arylhydrazides, arenesulfonyl chlorides, sodium arenesulfinates, arenesulfinic acids, and arenesulfonohydrazides. Particular attention has been paid to summarise the preparation of the various arylating reagents and to highlight the practicality, versatility, and limitations of the various developed arylation protocols, also comparing their results with those achieved in analogous Pd-catalysed arylation reactions involving the use of aryl halides as electrophiles. Mechanistic proposals have also been briefly summarised and discussed. However, data concerning Pd-catalysed direct C–H bond arylations involving the C–H bonds of aryl substituents of the examined heteroarene derivatives have not been taken into account.

Abstract
We have developed the green method for the synthesis of benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles with moderate to good yields using imidazolium chlorozincate (II) ionic liquid supported into Fe3O4 nanoparticles (LAIL@MNP) under solvent-free sonication. The reaction was performed under mild conditions and only produced water as a sole byproduct. The reactions under solvent-free sonication showed advantages of faster reaction rate (30 min) and high yields of the products (up to 90%). Moreover, the LAIL@MNP material was easily separated from the reaction mixture and can be recycled for five consecutive runs with a slight decrease in its catalytic performance (from 82 to 73%).

Abstract
2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) is the most widely used quinone with a high reduction potential, and it commonly mediates hydride transfer reactions and shows three accessible oxidation states: quinone (oxidized), semiquinone (one-electron-reduced), and hydroquinone (two-electron-reduced). DDQ has found broad utility as a stoichiometric oxidant in the functionalization of activated C-H bonds and the dehydrogenation of saturated C-C, C-O, and C-N bonds. The cost and toxicity of DDQ triggered recent efforts to develop methods that employ catalytic quantities of DDQ in combination with alternative stoichiometric oxidants. The aerobic catalytic approach was established for the selective oxidation of non-sterically hindered electron-rich benzyl methyl ethers and benzylic alcohols, and effectively extended to the oxidative deprotection of p-methoxybenzyl ethers to generate the alcohols in high selectivity. A combination of DDQ and protic acid is known to oxidize several aromatic donors to the corresponding cation radicals. The excited-state DDQ converts benzyls, heteroarenes, fluoroarenes, benzene, and olefins into their radical cation forms as well as chloride and other anions into their respective radicals. These reactive intermediates have been employed for the generation of C-C and C-X (N, O, or Cl) bonds in the synthesis of valuable natural products and organic compounds. To the best of our knowledge, however, there is still no review article exclusively describing the applications of DDQ in organic synthesis. Therefore, in the present review, we provide an overview of DDQ-induced organic transformations with their scope, limitations and the proposed reaction mechanisms.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Benzoxazoles are valuable bicyclic aromatic compounds; the construction of benzoxazoles via C-O cross-coupling reactions has attracted more and more attention. MATERIALS AND METHODS The best condition of C-O bond formation from o-haloanilides was carried out, taking Cu(OTf)2 (5 mol%) and vasicine (10 mol%) as the catalysts in EtOH in the presence of K2CO3 (2 eq.) for 12 h at 90°C. RESULTS A series of 2-substituted benzoxazoles have been prepared in high yields from 2-bromoanilides and 2- iodioanilides under mild conditions. CONCLUSION We have developed an efficient Cu-vasicine catalytic system for intramolecular C-O bond formation. This strategy is applicable to the synthesis of a wide variety of 2-substituted benzoxazoles by intramolecular O-arylation of o-haloanilides.

Abstract
Unassymetric bis[2-(2'-hydroxyphenylbenzoxole)] bis(HBO) derivatives with a DPA functionality for zinc binding have been developed with an efficient synthetic route, using the retrosynthetic analysis. Comparison of bis(HBO) derivatives with different substitution patterns allows us to verify and optimize their unique fluorescence properties. Upon binding zinc cation, bis(HBO) derivatives give a large fluorescence turn-on in both visible (λem ≈ 536 nm) and near-infrared (NIR) window (λem ≈ 746 nm). The probes are readily excitable by a 488 nm laser, making this series of compounds a suitable imaging tool for in vitro and in vivo study on a confocal microscope. The application of zinc binding-induced fluorescence turn-on is successfully demonstrated in cellular environments and thrombus imaging.

Abstract
Efficiently converting unstable linkages into stable linkages is an important objective in the chemistry of covalent organic frameworks (COFs), because it enhances stability and preserves crystallinity. Here, an unstable imine-linked COF was converted into a stable aromatic benzoxazole-linked COF (BO-COF) via post-oxidative cyclization, based on chemistry used to form fused-aromatic ladder-like rigid-rod polymers. The structure of the porous BO-COF was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, infrared and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, powder X-ray diffraction patterns, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The efficient post-treatment of an unstable reversible COF converted it into a stable irreversible COF, which had significantly improved thermal and chemical stabilities as well as high crystallinity. This strategy can be universally applied for the synthesis of stable fused-aromatic COFs, expanding their practical applications.

Abstract
Schiff base 1 (2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-((2-hydroxyphenyl-imino)-methyl)phenol) containing two hydroxyl groups could undergo an oxidative cyclization reaction and then generate hydroxyphenylbenzoxazole (HBO) 2 when CN- was present as a catalyst. The multistep cyclization reaction was proved by spectroscopy, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectra. C[double bond, length as m-dash]N isomerization is the predominant decay process of the excited states, so sensor 1 is weakly emissive in solution at ambient temperature. When 1 reacts with CN-, the emission is remarkably enhanced, where 1 is converted to 2. The cyclization product HBO 2 displays bright green luminescence in micellar due to the ESIPT (excited-state intramolecular proton transfer) as well as AIEE (aggregation-induced emission enhancement) effect. The detection limit is 5.92 × 10-7 M, lower than the WHO guideline of CN- in drinking water (1.9 μM). The selective and competitive experiments reveal that sensor 1 shows high sensing selectivity and sensitivity for CN- over other anions. Test papers containing absorbed 1 were prepared and applied for practical application of cyanide detection.

Indole-Substituted Benzothiazoles and Benzoxazoles as Selective and Reversible MAO-B Inhibitors for Treatment of Parkinson's Disease. ACS Chem Neurosci 2017; 8:1519-1529. Abstract
To develop novel, selective, and reversible MAO-B inhibitors for safer treatment of Parkinson's disease, benzothiazole and benzoxazole derivatives with indole moiety were designed and synthesized. Most of the synthesized compounds showed inhibitory activities against MAO-B and selectivity over MAO-A. The most active compound was compound 5b, 6-fluoro-2-(1-methyl-1H-indol-5-yl)benzo[d]thiazole with an IC50 value of 28 nM with no apparent effect on MAO-A activity at 10 μM. Based on the reversibility assay, compound 5b turned out to be fully reversible with over 95% of recovery of enzyme activity after washout of the compound. Compound 5b showed a reasonable stability in human liver microsomes and did not affect the activities of CYP isozymes, suggesting an absence of high-risk drug-drug interaction. In an in vivo MPTP-induced animal model of Parkinson's disease, oral administration of compound 5b showed neuroprotection of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons as revealed by tyrosine hydroxylase staining and prevention of MPTP-induced parkinsonism as revealed by motor behavioral assay of vertical grid test. In summary, the novel, reversible, and selective MAO-B inhibitor compound 5b was synthesized and characterized. We propose compound 5b as an effective therapeutic compound for relieving parkinsonism.

Abstract
Fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) represents an attractive oncology target for cancer therapy in view of its critical role in promoting cancer formation and progression, as well as causing resistance to approved therapies. In this article, we describe the identification of the potent pan-FGFR inhibitor (R)-21c (FGFR1-4 IC50 values of 0.9, 2.0, 2.0, and 6.1 nM, respectively). Compound (R)-21c exhibited excellent in vitro inhibitory activity against a panel of FGFR-amplified cell lines. Western blot analysis demonstrated that (R)-21c suppressed FGF/FGFR and downstream signaling pathways at nanomolar concentrations. Moreover, (R)-21c provided nearly complete inhibition of tumor growth (96.9% TGI) in NCI-H1581 (FGFR1-amplified) xenograft mice model at the dose of 10 mg/kg/qd via oral administration.

Abstract
A sequential one-pot procedure for the synthesis of either 2-(hetero)aryl or 2-styryl benzoxazoles is reported, starting from aryl and vinyl bromides, respectively, involving an initial aminocarbonylation with 2-aminophenols as nucleophiles followed by an acid mediated ring closure to generate the heterocycle. The methodology displays a broad substrate scope in moderate to excellent yields and can be exploited for (13)C-isotope labeling. Finally, this carbonylative protocol was applied to the synthesis of a potential Alzheimer's plaque binder and a selective PPAR antagonist including site-specific labeling with (13)C-carbon monoxide.
