Abstract
In order to increase its solubility in water and improve β-cyclodextrin combination with guest molecules, chemical modification of β-cyclodextrin is a feasible and effective method. A variety of β-cyclodextrin derivatives are designed and introduced for pharmaceutical complexation and analytical chemistry application. In this study, a series of β-cyclodextrin derivatives containing unsaturated bonds is designed and synthesized. The products are characterized by MS, FTIR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. Some of the functional monomers may be used in the preparation of molecularly imprinted polymers, and preliminary studies have shown excellent molecular recognition ability. The prepared β-cyclodextrin functional monomers have potential application value in molecular recognition materials based on polymers.

Abstract
Since some metal-organic cages (MOCs) have been synthesized in past several years, the applications of MOCs such as drug delivery, molecular recognition, separation, catalysis, and gas storage, etc. have been witnessed with a significant increase. However, to the best of our knowledge, so far no one has used MOCs as chiral stationary phase to separate chiral compounds in CEC. In this study, three MOCs were developed as the stationary phase for CEC separation of enantiomers. The MOCs coated capillary column showed good chiral recognition ability for some chiral compounds, including amine, alcohols, ketone, etc. The influence of buffer concentration, applied voltage, pH of buffer solution on the chiral separations was also investigated. The RSDs of run-to-run, day-to-day, and column-to-column for retention time were 2.1-4.67%, 1.2-4.36%, and 3.62-6.43%, respectively. This work reveals that the chiral MOCs material is feasible for the enantioseparation in CEC.

Abstract
A new type of calix [ arene-capped (3-(2-O-β-cyclodextrin)-2-hydroxypropoxy) propylsilyl-appended silica particles (C4CD-HPS) has been successfully used as chiral stationary phase (CSP) in capillary electrochromatography (CEC) for separation of enantiomers of 1-phenyl-1-propanol for the first time. C4CD-HPS contains a chiral selector with two recognition sites: calix [arene and β-cyclodextrin. Due to the cooperative functioning of the calix [arene and β-cyclodextrin, C4CD-HPS has exhibited excellent enantioselectivity for the enantiomers of 1-phenyl-1-propanol. After the multiple phenolic hydroxyl groups in the calix [arene moieties are ionized in the running buffer, the bonded stationary phase C4CD-HPS becomes negatively-charged to provide high electroosmotic flow (EOF) in CEC. Fast and high-resolution separation for enantiomers of 1-phenyl-1-propanol has been easily achieved on C4CD-HPS. This new type of chiral stationary phase has exhibited great potential for fast enantiomeric separations in CEC.

Abstract
We have explored in this work the stability and the reactivity of multiarm cyclam-grafted mesoporous silica samples in aqueous solution. A series of hybrid materials have been prepared by grafting silylated cyclam molecules bearing one, two, or four silyl groups onto both amorphous silica gel (K60) and ordered mesoporous silica (SBA15). Under these conditions, cyclam moieties are attached to the silica walls via one, two, or four arms. Various physicochemical techniques have been applied to characterize the functionalized solids (elemental analysis, 1H-29Si and 1H-13C CPMAS NMR, and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms). The interest in two and four arms for improving the chemical stability in solution, by comparison with the system displaying only one arm, has been demonstrated by using a set of complementary experiments involving pH measurements and silicon determination with ICP-AES. Then, the investigation of their protonation and binding properties toward copper(II) has revealed a significant decrease in the reactivity of these hybrids as a consequence of multiarm tethering. A comparison of amorphous and ordered materials has permitted us to point out the influence of mesostructuration on the reactivity of these functionalized solids, especially from a kinetic point of view.

Abstract
The present review intends to summarize recent developments in the field of enantioselective separations and analysis by CEC. It covers studies published in English language in common peer-reviewed journals within the period between 2003 and 2006. Both, methods making use of chiral mobile phase additives as well as chiral stationary phases for electrochromatographic enantiomer separations, are reviewed. Achievements that have been made on the various column technologies, such as open-tubular, particle-packed, inorganic, organic and particle-fixed (hybrid-type) monolithic as well as molecularly imprinted polymer phases, are discussed.

Abstract
Perphenylcarbamoylated beta-cyclodextrin bonded-silica particles (5 microm) were packed into 75-mum fused-silica capillaries, and used for the enantiomer separation of neutral and basic solutes by pressure-assisted capillary electrochromatography. Triethylammonium acetate and phosphate buffer were employed as the BGEs. A cathodic EOF was observed with these two BGEs. Seven chiral analytes were successfully resolved into their enantiomers under optimized conditions, and five of them could be baseline-separated within 12 min due to their high electrophoretic mobility. Better results were achieved with phosphate buffer as the BGE. The effects of organic content and pH on the enantioseparation were also investigated.

Abstract
Two bonded chiral stationary phases (CSPs), 8-aminoquinoline-2-ylmethyl- and 8-aminoquinoline-7-ylmethyl-diaza-18-crown-6-capped [3-(2-O-beta-cyclodextrin)-2-hydroxypropoxy]propylsilyl silica particles (non-porous, 1.5 microm), have been prepared and evaluated using capillary liquid chromatography at high pressures (> or = 8000 p.s.i.). High column efficiency (up to 400 000 plates m(-1)) was achieved for chiral separations. These CSPs with two recognition sites, i.e. substituted-diaza-18-crown-6 and beta-cyclodextrin combined with high chromatographic efficiency provide good resolution of a variety of enantiomers and positional isomers in relatively short times under reversed-phase conditions. After inclusion of a Ni (II) ion from the mobile phase, the positively charged crown ether-capped beta-cyclodextrin facilitates specific static, dipolar, and host-guest complexation interactions with solutes.
