Abstract
An asymmetric methanolysis of glutaric anhydride and 6 ensuing steps gave veratrol-annulated dimethylcyclo-heptenone diastereomers with 99% ee; ring closures occurred by Friedel-Crafts acylations of carboxylic acids obtained by stereospecific hydrogenolyses of a pair of diastereomeric δ-lactones. The mentioned cycloheptenones and Ph-NH-NH2 underwent Fischer indole syntheses providing the tetracyclic indoles cis- and trans-14a, respectively. Double lithiations with BuLi and quenchings with ClPPh2 furnished the diphosphanes cis- and trans-15 with perfect (P)- and (M)-atropselectivity, respectively.

Abstract
α-Oxy- o-xylylene, a highly reactive diene readily accessible from benzocyclobutenol, undergoes Diels-Alder reaction with vinylphosphine oxides, yielding the corresponding 2-phosphorylated 1-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalenes in excellent yields. Use of unsubstituted and trans-2-aryl-substituted vinylphosphine oxides leads to cycloadducts with complete regioselectivity and with cis/trans selectivity up to 19:1 in the most favorable case. In the case of P-stereogenic trans-2-aryl-substituted vinylphosphine oxides, a virtually complete chirality transfer from P to C can be achieved. Dehydration and aromatization of the obtained cycloadducts bearing the resolved P-stereogenic phosphinoyl groups can be carried out to afford the valuable P-stereogenic and axially chiral phosphorylated 1,2'-binaphthyl ring system. Cases of restricted rotation around Csp3-Csp2 single bond in some tetrahydronaphthalene cycloadducts have also been revealed.

Abstract
Advantages and limitations of the use of structurally similar compounds in racemate resolution viadiastereoisomeric salt formation are discussed in this review. An effective conception on "derivativeresolving agents" (use of the optically active derivatives of a racemate as resolving agents)is presented by examples and the method is extended to the homologous series of the derivative resolvingagents and/or achiral additives. A recently developed distillation version of the family approachto optical resolution and the novel, solvent-free resolution methods using a half equivalent amountof resolving agent are also discussed.

Abstract
Regioselective bromine–lithium exchange reactions on polybrominated biaryls enable the modular synthesis of various polysubstituted biphenyls such as bis(dialkylphosphino)-, bis(diarylphosphino)- and dialkyl(diaryl)phosphinobiphenyls. All permutations of substituents at the ortho positions of the biphenyls are possible. In a similar manner, one can gain access to monophosphine analogues. So far, such a process, based on the effective discrimination between bromine atoms as a function of their chemical environment, has been observed only sporadically.

Abstract
Platinum (Pt) colloids modified by the chiral ligand synphos were prepared with the goal of obtaining a catalytic nanomaterial and were subsequently embedded in silica to form a heterogeneous catalyst. The systems were characterized by (31)P-NMR, x-ray diffraction, molecular modeling and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTs) measurements. These colloids, both as 'quasi-homogeneous catalysts' (or soluble heterogeneous catalysts) and embedded in silica (heterogeneous catalysts) were employed in the selective hydrogenolysis of highly sterically constrained bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-enes and hydrogenation of ethyl pyruvate.

Abstract
A series of chiral diphosphine ligands denoted as PQ-Phos was prepared by atropdiastereoselective Ullmann coupling and ring-closure reactions. The Ullmann coupling reaction of the biaryl diphosphine dioxides is featured by highly efficient central-to-axial chirality transfer with diastereomeric excess >99%. This substrate-directed diastereomeric biaryl coupling reaction is unprecedented for the preparation of chiral diphosphine dioxides, and our method precludes the tedious resolution procedures usually required for preparing enantiomerically pure diphosphine ligands. The effect of chiral recognition was also revealed in a relevant asymmetric ring-closure reaction. The chiral tether bridging the two aryl units creates a conformationally rigid scaffold essential for enantiofacial differentiation; fine-tuning of the ligand scaffold (e.g., dihedral angles) can be achieved by varying the chain length of the chiral tether. The enantiomerically pure Ru- and Ir-PQ-Phos complexes have been prepared and applied to the catalytic enantioselective hydrogenations of alpha- and beta-ketoesters (C=O bond reduction), 2-(6'-methoxy-2'-naphthyl)propenoic acid, alkyl-substituted beta-dehydroamino acids (C=C bond reduction), and N-heteroaromatic compounds (C=N bond reduction). An excellent level of enantioselection (up to 99.9% ee) has been attained for the catalytic reactions. In addition, the significant ligand dihedral angle effects on the Ir-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of N-heteroaromatic compounds were also revealed.
