Abstract
An efficient copper-catalyzed synthesis of a variety of N,N-diphenyl-2-benzothiazolamines was developed. Starting from substituted 1-(2-iodophenyl)-3-phenylthioureas and substituted iodobenzenes, the reaction proceeded smoothly via a tandem manner in the presence of CuI to afford the corresponding N,N-diphenyl-2-benzothiazolamine derivatives with good functional group tolerance. The protocol features simple performance, easily available starting materials, a one-pot manner, and good functional group tolerance, providing a practical strategy for the preparation of poly-functionalized amines.

Abstract
The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract
A photocatalyst- and transition-metal-free visible-light-induced cyclization of ortho-halothiobenzanilides has been developed. Upon irradiation with visible light, substrates undergo dehalogenative cyclization to 2-aryl benzothiazoles with high efficiency and selectivity. This photocyclization exhibits a high tolerance to various functional groups, is applicable for the synthesis of 2-alkyl benzothiazoles, and is easy to set up for gram-scale reaction.

Abstract
In a search for potent antileishmanial drug candidates, eighteen rhodacyanine analogues bearing fluorine or perfluoroalkyl substituents at various positions were synthesized. These compounds were tested for their inhibitory activities against Leishmania martiniquensis and L. orientalis. This 'fluorine-walk' analysis revealed that the introduction of fluorine atom at C-5, 6, 5', or 6' on the benzothiazole units led to significant enhancement of the activity, correlating with the less negative reduction potentials of the fluorinated analogues confirmed by the electrochemical study. On the other hand, CF3 and OCF3 groups were found to have detrimental effects, which agreed with the poor aqueous solubility predicted by the in silico ADMET analysis. In addition, some of the analogues including the difluorinated species showed exceptional potency against the promastigote and axenic amastigote stages (IC50 = 40-85 nM), with the activities surpassing both amphotericin B and miltefosine.

Abstract
Research on the cleavage of C-C bonds has been well developed. By comparison with this, the activation of C-S bonds remains challenging. Herein, dioxygen-triggered oxidative cleavage of C-S bonds has been achieved, delivering a series of N-containing heterocyclic compounds that are frequently found in pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the potential utility of this protocol was further demonstrated by a gram-scale experiment. Mechanistically, dioxygen plays a key role in the cleavage of C-S bonds towards C-N bond formation.

Abstract
DMSO was found to activate arylisothiocyanates for self-nucleophilic addition. A subsequent intramolecular C–H sulfurization catalyzed by PdBr2 enables access to a wide range of 2-aminobenzothiazole derivatives in moderate to good yields. This is the first example of a DMSO-mediated Pd-catalyzed synthesis of 2-aminobenzothiazoles through cyclization/C–H sulfurization of two isothiocyanates. Abstract
A synthetically useful protocol has been developed for the preparation of highly functionalized N-pyrrolylbenzimidazol-2-ones. The reaction of variously substituted 3-aroyl- and 3-alkanoylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with commercially available enamines in acetic acid results in a rapid rearrangement and formation of N-pyrrolylbenzimidazol-2-ones in modest to excellent yields. The key step of the rearrangement involves the novel ring contraction of 3-aroyl- and 3-alkanoylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with enamines. In this case, the atom of carbon which is displaced from the pyrazine ring of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one becomes the fourth carbon atom of the newly formed pyrrole ring. The method is applicable for the aza analogues of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones.

A direct
method for the regioselective construction of benzimidazolones
is reported wherein a single palladium catalyst is employed to couple
monosubstituted urea substrates with differentially substituted 1,2-dihaloaromatic
systems. In this method, the catalyst is able to promote a cascade
of two discrete chemoselective C–N bond-forming processes that
allows the highly selective and predictable formation of complex heterocycles
from simple, readily available starting materials.

Abstract
A mild and efficient synthetic development of 2-arylbenzothiazoles 5 mediated by ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) via intramolecular cyclization of N-phenyl-thiobenzamides 4 was achieved. Further compounds 5 were reduced to corresponding amines 6, and their photodynamic therapy (PDT) effect was evaluated on malignant human melanoma A375 cells. Amine 6l plus ultraviolet A (UVA) induced caspase-3 activity, poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase cleavage, M30 positive CytoDeath staining, and subsequent apoptotic cell death. Our data disclosed that treatment of A375 cells with 6l plus UVA resulted in a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨmt), oxidative phosphorylation system (OXPHOS) subunits, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) but an increase in mitochondrial DNA 4977-bp deletion via reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations also showed major ultrastructural alterations of mitochondria. Additionally, 6l plus UVA was also shown to reduce murine melanoma size in a mouse model. The present study supports the hypothesis that 6l-PDT may serve as a potential ancillary modality for the treatment of melanoma.
