Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Autotransplantation is a well-documented procedure for replacing missing teeth in the anterior maxilla. This retrospective study aims to evaluate long-term survival rate, success rate as well as esthetics and patient-reported outcome of premolars autotransplanted to the anterior maxilla and secondarily to identify potential prognostic factors for survival, success, esthetic, and biological complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS One hundred and twenty-two patients with 153 transplants were assessed on survival rate and potential prognostic factors, while 50 patients with 61 autotransplanted premolars underwent clinical, radiographic, and esthetic assessment. Clinical and radiographic parameters were recorded. Esthetic outcomes were evaluated using a comprehensive score system comparing transplanted teeth to neighboring tooth. All patients filled in a questionnaire about the esthetic outcome of the treatment. RESULTS The survival rate of transplants after 16-38 years was 76%, with the majority showing no periodontal complications (95%). Radiographically, 46% of transplanted premolars showed no signs of pathosis. Ankylosis and inflammatory resorption were observed in 19% and 16%, respectively. Prognostic factors such as donor tooth type and root stage did not significantly affect transplant survival. Premolars transplanted at an immature stage had a significant lower risk of ankylosis, compared to more mature transplants. Esthetically, 72% of the transplants matched their neighboring teeth, and taking the biological success into consideration an overall success rate was 57.3%. In total, 71% of all patients were esthetically satisfied with their autotransplant, 18% were fairly satisfied, and 11% were dissatisfied. CONCLUSIONS The transplants demonstrated high survival rate, albeit with biological complications such as ankylosis and inflammatory root resorption. Developmental stage of the root at the time of transplantation had a significant influence on ankylosis of transplanted teeth. Esthetic outcomes were generally satisfactory, although challenges were noted with certain restoration types and donor tooth selections. Overall, the majority of patients expressed satisfaction with their autotransplanted teeth.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to evaluate root development in autotransplanted teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. METHODS Twelve premolars with incomplete root formation, which were selected to replace prematurely lost upper central incisors, were analyzed by CBCT on two different occasions. The first CBCT examination (T1) was conducted before tooth autotransplantation. The second CBCT examination (T2) was performed over a follow-up period of at least 12 months and < 5 years. Three previously calibrated evaluators assessed root development. The positions of the tomographic planes were standardized. The mean root length in sagittal and coronal tomographic sections was used to validate the root length at T1 and T2. Longitudinal root development of the transplanted tooth was determined by calculating the difference in root length between T2 and T1. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), paired t-test, and Pearson test were applied, with significance set at 5%. RESULTS The mean time elapsed between T1 and T2 was 962 days/2.6 years. The ICC was > 0.75. The measurements obtained at T2 were significantly greater than at T1 (p = 0.001). The mean increase in root length was 2.83 mm. There was no significant correlation (p = 0.413; r = 0.261) between root length increase and the time elapsed between T1 and T2. CONCLUSION Premolar teeth with incompletely formed roots transplanted to the upper central incisor region showed continued root development during postoperative follow-up.

Abstract
The goal of autotransplantation of teeth (ATT) is to provide the patient with a functioning tooth to replace a missing one. In dentistry, this surgery has gained significant approval and popularity; nonetheless, there is still a shortage of thorough evidence about its long-term effects. Tooth transplantation has a rich historical pedigree, and the main factors determining its success are the extra-alveolar period, proper splinting, periodontal ligament treatment, and root growth stage. With its high reported survival rate, autotransplantation is a potential therapeutic option, especially when it comes to replacing damaged anterior maxillary teeth. Collaboration between orthodontists, pediatric dentists, restorative dentists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons is necessary for the successful execution of this treatment. The extra-alveolar period, proper splinting, periodontal ligament treatment, and the stage of root growth are the main factors that determine success. Although there are many applications for autotransplantation, a good functional and cosmetic result depends on careful patient selection and a proper surgical approach. It is not practical to replace lost teeth in children and teenagers with bridgework or implants as this may interfere with the proper development of the alveolar process and other facial bones. As such, these techniques are not recommended. Alternatively, implanting a tooth from the same person without fully forming its roots might be a good substitute. This method promotes improved mastication, speech, dentofacial development, aesthetics, and arch form integrity by enabling unhindered alveolar growth and root development. Although tooth autotransplantation has not been widely used in clinical dentistry, it is currently seen as a viable option that can replace traditional prosthetics and implant rehabilitation in both financial and medical terms. This review examines several benefits, possible iatrogenic harms, side effects, and important variables that might affect the result of the transplant, in addition to suitable criteria for the best-case selection. It also offers recommendations based on the literature.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this observational study was to evaluate bone growth at the recipient site of autotransplanted teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and to compare it to the control tooth. METHODS Bone growth was measured on CBCT images obtained from the anterior region of the maxilla, which received a single transplant of immature premolars due to early loss of the central incisor. The results were compared to the bone growth of contralateral central incisor that served as control. The sample consisted of 13 autotransplanted teeth and 13 control teeth. It was determined the thickness of the buccal bone of the marginal ridge, the thickness of the palatal bone of the marginal ridge, the height of the maxillary bone, and the thickness of the maxillary bone at its mid-height. The measurements were analyzed statistically, adopting a significance level of 5%. RESULTS The mean interval between the dental autotransplantation surgery and the CBCT scan was 16.2 years. The mean thickness of the buccal bone of the marginal ridge, thickness of the palatal bone of the marginal ridge, height of the maxillary bone, and thickness of the maxillary bone at its mid-height were, respectively, 0.85, 0.94, 19.6, and 8.85 mm for autotransplanted teeth and 0.79, 1.09, 18.88, and 8.5 mm for control teeth. There were no significant differences in the bone measurements between autotransplanted and control teeth (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS The growth of maxillary bone in the region that received the autotransplanted tooth was proportional to that of maxillary bone that supports the contralateral tooth. Thus, autogenous transplantation is efficient in maintaining the bone architecture at the recipient site.

Abstract
Bone defect caused by jaw cystectomy has always been the main factor affecting postoperative wound healing and is also the common cause of maxillofacial bone defect, which brings challenges to the subsequent restoration of missing teeth. In this paper, the authors report a 22-year-old young woman who had a mandibular cyst in the left lower posterior tooth area. She underwent mandibular bone cyst excision and simultaneous extraction of teeth 36 and 37. One and two months after the removal of the mandibular bone cyst, autologous tooth transplantation was performed in stages from tooth 28 to tooth 36 and from tooth 18 to tooth 37. The case shows that tooth autotransplantation is a viable option for the restoration of dentition defects after the excision of jaw cysts, which can promote the healing of the bone defect after the operation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to validate our Cox proportional hazards prognostic model for autotransplantation of teeth with complete root formation using prognostic index (PI) and determine whether the prognosis can be predicted. PATIENTS AND METHODS The Protocol group, as a training data set for validation, consisted of 259 autotransplanted teeth to create a PI using the Cox model, as described previously. The Pre-protocol group, as the first validation data set, consisted of 95 autotransplanted teeth treated without a protocol. The Post-protocol group, as the second validation data set, consisted of 61 autotransplanted teeth obtained after the establishment of the prognostic model. Because four prognostic factors, including history of root canal treatment (yes), number of roots (multirooted), source of donor tooth (maxillary tooth), and duration of edentulism (≥2.5 months), were selected as a Cox prognostic model, 16 patterns of PI were constructed. First, the autotransplantated teeth in the Protocol group were divided into low- and high-risk groups respectively according to the median of PI as the cutoff value. The survival curves of low- and high-risk groups were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and tested using the log-rank test. Then, in the Pre- and Post-protocol groups, all transplanted teeth were divided into low-and high-risk teeth by the median of PI and the survival curves of low- and high- risk teeth were analyzed statistically in a similar manner. RESULTS The survival curves of the low- and high-risk groups diverged significantly in the Protocol and Post-protocol groups. In the Pre-protocol group, the curves of the low- and high-risk groups were separated, and the low-risk survival rate was improved. CONCLUSIONS Our Cox prognostic model for autotransplantation of teeth with complete root formation was useful in predicting the prognosis by external validation using PI.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Transmigrated (migrated through the midline) mandibular canines constitute a treatment challenge. Advanced transmigration can be successfully treated by autotransplantation. In developing canines, pulp revascularisation is typical after transplantation. On the contrary, the pulp of teeth with completed apex formation does not undergo revascularization. In this case, root canal treatment becomes compulsory and decreases the success of autotransplantation. The aim of this observational retrospective study was to evaluate whether partial resection of the root (performed during the autotransplantation of mature canines) would enable revascularization of the pulp after the surgery. METHODS Five transmigrated mandibular canines with complete apex formation before the surgery were evaluated. During the autotransplantation surgery, the resection of 2-4 mm of the root apex was performed to open the path for revascularisation of the pulp after surgery. The transplanted teeth were observed during healing after the surgery for the presence of pulp obliteration. Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed. RESULTS All treated canines survived the minimum observation period of two years (ranging from 26 to 80 months, mean: 55 months) without pulp healing complications. The survival was 100 percent, and the success was 80 percent. In one canine, the external cervical root resorption was diagnosed and treated one year after the surgery. At the final examination, transplanted canines presented radiographic features of pulp obliteration, normal mobility, and healthy periodontal tissues. CONCLUSIONS The surgical protocol proved to be successful in promoting revascularization to maintain pulp vitality, in all cases. The outcomes confirm that autotransplantation, combined with the resection of the root, constitutes as a valid treatment for mature ectopic canines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Tooth auto-transplantation is a treatment option, which is often not considered to replace anterior maxillary incisors in children and adolescents. There are multiple prognostic factors that may influence the outcomes of premolar auto-transplantation, but there is limited evidence from human studies. The aim of this study was to report the outcomes of auto-transplanted premolars in the anterior maxilla following traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) and to identify their prognostic factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical records of patients who had premolars transplanted in the anterior maxilla following TDI, with appropriate radiographs and a minimal of 1-year follow-up, were reviewed retrospectively. A specific data extraction form was developed, tested and used to collect information for the prognostic factors and outcomes. RESULTS The cohort included 120 patients with 144 auto-transplanted premolars. The mean age was 12.2 years (±2.0), and the mean observation period was 3.7 years (±1.8). The success rate was 80%, and the survival rate was 93%. Unfavourable outcomes included external replacement resorption in 12.5%, uncontrolled external inflammatory resorption in 2.7%, and both resorption types in 4.9% of teeth. Periodontal healing was significantly associated with donor tooth root maturity, graft handling at the time of surgery including ease of donor tooth extraction and placement at the recipient sites, recipient site alveolar bone status, and post-operative transplant mobility. Seventy-four teeth (53.4%) were immature at the time of transplantation where pulp revascularisation was anticipated, and 52 (70%) of those had radiographic and clinical signs of pulp healing. Pulp healing was significantly related to donor tooth eruption stage, ease of extraction of donor tooth, and ease of placement in the recipient site. CONCLUSIONS Good outcomes were observed for premolar teeth auto-transplanted in the anterior maxilla. The main prognostic factors were ease of extraction of donor tooth and ease of placement in the recipient sites and donor tooth root maturity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Tooth auto-transplantation has recently gained high clinical acceptance. The aim of this study was to identify the top 100 most-cited articles regarding tooth auto-transplantation, to analyse multiple citations and publication metrics and to outline the historical scientific advancements in this field. MATERIALS AND METHODS An advanced search of the Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science 'Core Collection' and Elsevier's Scopus databases utilising specific keywords related to tooth auto-transplantation between 1971 and 2021 was performed. The retrieved articles were ranked in descending order based on their Web of Science citation counts and further cross-matched with citation data from Scopus. The extracted data included citation counts, citation density, level of evidence, year of publication, contributing authors names and institutes, corresponding author's address, journal of publication, journal local citations index, cumulative growth index, keywords and keywords Plus. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and graphical mapping. RESULTS A total of 1290 articles were retrieved. The top 100 most-cited articles received a total of 4899 (Web of Science) and 5250 (Scopus) citations. Among these, cohort studies (29%) and case series (18%) were the most common study designs. Scandinavian countries produced major contributions in defining the top 100 most-cited articles and ranked within the top 5 countries based on the number of publications and citations per year. The greatest contributing authors were Schwartz O (n = 12), Andreasen JO (n = 8) and Paulsen HU (n = 6), and they were affiliated with Copenhagen, Denmark. The top contributing journals were American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology Oral Radiology, European Journal of Orthodontics, Dental Traumatology and Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis revealed a large geographical scientific interest and broad development in the field of tooth auto-transplantation spanning multiple dental disciplines.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study is to observe the usefulness of autogenous tooth transplantation by examining the cumulative survival rate according to the period of auto-transplanted teeth as pre-implant treatment. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 111 patients who visited Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital and underwent autogenous tooth transplantation between November 2008 and January 2021 (about 13 years). The cumulative survival rate of autogenous tooth transplantation according to the causes of extraction of the recipient tooth (caries, periapical lesion, crack, crown fracture, periodontitis) and condition of opposing teeth (natural teeth vs. fixed prosthesis). The cumulative survival rate of autogenous tooth transplantation according to the age (under 30 vs. over 30) was also investigated and it was examined whether there were any differences in each factor. Results: The average follow-up period was 12 months, followed by a maximum of 162 months. The 24-month cumulative survival rate of all auto-transplanted teeth was 91.7%, 83.1% at 60 months and the 162-month cumulative survival rate was 30.1%. There were no statistical differences between the causes of extraction of the recipient's teeth, differences in the condition of the opposing teeth, and differences under and over the age of 30. Conclusions: The survival rate of autogenous tooth transplantation appears to be influenced by the conditions of the donor tooth rather than the conditions of the recipient tooth. Although autogenous tooth transplantation cannot completely replace implant treatment, it is meaningful in that it can slightly delay or at least earn the time until implant placement is possible.

Abstract
Background Autotransplantation is a minor surgical procedure which involves transplantation of teeth within the same oral cavity. For children, autotransplantation may be considered as a provisional measure with good survival probability. It offers a viable biological approach for replacing the missing teeth and also for orthodontic treatments in children. Aim The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of autotransplantation among pediatric dentists in Chennai, India. Methods An 18-item questionnaire was developed, piloted, and distributed among 100 practicing pediatric dentists in Chennai, India. Descriptive statistical analysis was done using Chi-square test. Results Seventy valid responses from the practicing pediatric dentists were obtained. Among them, 39.7% had an experience of 5-10 years, 47.1% practiced less than 5 years, and 13.2% had experience more than 10 years. Analysis of the responses showed that 76.5% of the pediatric dentists were aware of the procedure but have not observed autotransplantation being done. Among the respondents, 95.6% have not performed this technique and 40.6% of them were not sure of the prognosis. Atraumatic extraction of donor tooth was considered to be a major limitation in autotransplantation by 41.8% of the pediatric dentists. From the responses received, 95.6% were interested in gaining more information with majority opting for more hands on workshops on the technique of autotransplantation. Conclusion Though most of the respondents were aware of autotransplantation procedure, they have not practiced it due to inadequate training.

Abstract
Background: Tooth autotransplantation is defined as the surgical repositioning of an autogenous tooth in another surgical site within the same individual. Aim: The aim of this research was to analyze the outcome of tooth transplantation using immature donor teeth compared with closed apex teeth and to compare differences between donor tooth positions on the arch. Methods: Electronic and manual literature searches were performed in different databases, including the National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE), EMBASE (OVID), Cochrane Central (CENTRAL), and the digital library of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC University) from 1978 to March 2021. Studies were selected when they fulfilled the following criteria: only human prospective clinical studies, minimum sample size of 10 patients, minimum follow-up of 1 year, studies reporting or with at least deducible data on survival rates, immediate tooth autotransplantation with completed or incomplete root formation, and publications in the English language. A meta-analysis of random effects was developed to estimate the global effect measure of the survival rate, success rate, and root resorption involving the total sample, as well as open- and closed-apex groups. Results: Twenty-four articles were eligible for analysis. The Cohen’s kappa corresponding to this review was 0.87, and the risk assessment was considered low–moderate for the included studies. Overall survival and success rates were 95.9% and 89.4%, respectively, with a mean follow-up of 4 years and an overall mean age of 25.2 ± 12.3 years. Closed apex teeth showed a survival rate of 3.9% lower than that of open apex teeth. Higher complication rates were found for both inflammatory external root resorption and replacement root resorption in the closed-apex group, without reaching statistical significance. Conclusions: Tooth autotransplantation is a viable treatment alternative, regardless of the apical condition, with high survival and success rates after a mean follow-up of 4 years. Open-apex donor teeth could be considered the gold-standard option, showing lower complication rates when compared to closed-apex donor teeth. Future randomized controlled clinical studies are needed to examine the long-term prognosis of this technique.

Abstract
Background: Autotransplantation is the surgical repositioning of a tooth within the same patient. It can be thought of as the controlled avulsion and re-implantation of a tooth and can be a viable alternative to other dental rehabilitation options. This review aimed to evaluate the survival rate (SR), major complications such as ankylosis rate (AR) and infection-related root resorption (RR), and overall success and failure rate (FR) in autotransplanted teeth. Methods: Six databases were accessed up to January 2021 to obtain all systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRs and MAs). Study selection: After title and abstract reading, data extraction was performed from eligible SRs. The methodological quality was calculated for the included SRs using the risk of bias in systematic reviews (ROBIS) tool. Results: Six SRs were included in this review. The overall failure rate ranged from as low as 2.0% to 10.32%. The 1-year survival was very high (97.4–98.0%). The 5-year survival rate ranged from 81 to 98.2%. Major complications of AR ranged from 1.2 to 6.2%, and RR ranged from 2.1 to 10.4%. Conclusion: The overall findings from these SR and MA are promising; however, all the SRs include only single-arm prospective or retrospective studies, the SRs are of overall low methodological quality, and for the heterogeneity of the included SRs, well-designed comparative studies with a long-term follow-up are recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Impacted canines may pose a functional and an esthetic problem for patients and can affect neighboring incisors. The aim of the study was to compare different treatment methods and their outcomes for impacted maxillary and mandibular canines. METHODS The authors included 102 patients with 118 impacted canines (82 maxillary and 36 mandibular canines). Impacted canine were confirmed during clinical and radiologic examinations. Eighty-five patients (83%) with 97 impacted canines started the treatment. The authors analyzed treatment types and outcomes. Two maxillary and 4 mandibular canines were scheduled for extraction. RESULTS Orthodontic extrusion was used most frequently to treat impacted maxillary canines (89%), whereas orthodontic extrusion and transalveolar transplantation were performed most frequently in impacted mandibular canines (33% and 37.5%, respectively). The treatment was successful in 96% of the maxillary and 95% of the impacted mandibular canines. CONCLUSIONS Different methods were used for impacted maxillary and mandibular canines, but their overall success rate was high. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Successful outcome is determined via a well-planned and carefully executed orthodontic and surgical treatment. Early diagnosis is pivotal in facilitating spontaneous canine eruption and implementing transalveolar transplantation in a timely way.

Abstract
Background/Aims Autotransplantation of developing premolars is an established treatment to replace missing teeth in the anterior maxilla in growing patients with a reported success rate of over 90%. The normal shape of the alveolus is observed after transplantation, but data on the presence and amount of alveolar bone after healing has not been previously reported. The aim of this study was to look for potential differences in alveolar bone dimensions between sites where autotransplanted premolars replaced missing incisors and control sites of contralateral incisors. Material/Methods There were 11 patients aged between 10 and 12 years five months (mean age: 10 years and 7 months) who underwent autotransplantation of a premolar to replace a central incisor. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) performed at least 1 year after transplantation served to evaluate bone at sites of autotransplanted premolars and controls (contralateral maxillary central incisor). The thickness of the labial bone, plus the height and width of the alveolar process were measured on scans and compared at transplant and control sites. Results Mean thicknesses of the labial bone at the transplant and control sites were 0.78 mm and 0.82 mm respectively. Mean alveolar bone height was 15.15 mm at the transplant sites and 15.12 mm at the control sites. The mean marginal thickness of the alveolus was 7.75 mm at the transplant sites and 7.98 mm at the control sites. Mean thicknesses of the alveolus for half of its vertical dimension at the transplant and control sites were 7.54 mm and 8.03 mm, respectively. Conclusion The mean values of bone thickness, width and height of the alveolar process at sites of transplanted premolars were comparable to the mean values for the control incisors. Successful autotransplantation of developing premolars to replace missing central incisors allowed preservation of alveolar bone in the anterior maxilla.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tooth autotransplantation is a valid method for replacing non-restorable teeth. This study aimed to assess mid-term survival and success of autotransplanted third molars and the clinical periodontal parameters and factors predicting successful periodontal attachment apparatus regeneration. METHODS In total, 36 patients who had undergone extraction and subsequent autotransplantation of 36 third molars using virtual planning and computer-aided rapid prototyping models by an oral surgeon and endodontist were eligible. Probing pocket depth (PPD), gingival recession (REC), clinical attachment level (CAL), pulpal and periapical healing, root resorption, and radiographic bone loss (RBL) were evaluated. Additionally, a questionnaire evaluated patient-reported outcomes. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 30.2 years with a mean follow-up duration of 29.42 ± 14.56 months. The overall survival and success rates were 97.2% and 91.7%, respectively. No statistically significant differences were found in success and survival rates between open and closed apex groups or between compromised and intact buccal bone groups. No signs of pulp necrosis were found in the open apex group. Progressive replacement resorption was detected in one closed apex case. The mean PPD was 2.7 ± 0.45 mm for all transplanted teeth. REC was 0.13 mm higher in transplanted teeth than in previous hopeless teeth. CAL changes were neither clinically relevant (-0.17 ± 0.66 mm) nor statistically significant. The reported patient satisfaction was high. CONCLUSIONS Autotransplantation of third molars is a predictable treatment method, with a 2.5-year cumulative tooth survival and success of 97.2% and 91.7%, respectively, which were not influenced by recipient site integrity or root development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autogenous tooth transplantation is a reliable method for repairing missing teeth. Although it recently became a recognized and feasible treatment method in dentistry, the long-term efficacy of root canal therapy (RCT) has not been well confirmed. This study is aimed at determining whether RCT has a good effect on the success rate of teeth with complete roots in autogenous tooth transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were collected from the Korea University Guro Hospital. Data of patients who underwent autogenous tooth transplantation within 9 years were collected. We selected 29 teeth with complete roots as the research subjects in our study. None of the patients had any systemic diseases. All cases in this study were obtained with patient permission. RESULTS According to the tooth vitality test, the autogenous teeth tested negative in dental pulp test and function. Nine of the 29 teeth with autogenous tooth transplantation were treated with RCT and survived throughout the observation period. However, 20 autogenous teeth were not treated with RCT, and eight of them did not survive. All statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 20.0. The null hypothesis was rejected (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION For complete root teeth, the success rate after autogenous tooth transplantation after RCT is higher than that of teeth not treated with RCT.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the success rate of simultaneous autotransplantation of the immature impacted third molars with the guidance of computer-aided rapid prototyping (CARP) to the place of mandibular first or second molars with extraction indication due to the untreatable radiographic periapical lesions. PATIENTS AND METHODS Twelve radiographically and clinically hopeless mandibular first or second molars with periapical lesions of 10 patients between the ages of 15 to 21 were included in this retrospective clinical study. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were used to produce the CARP models of the donor impacted third molars. Following the extractions of the mandibular first or second molars with periapical lesions, sockets were curetted and prepared with proper burs until a suitable infraocclusal fit of the CARP models. The donor teeth were transplanted synchronously with their surgical extractions. Postoperatively patients were followed clinically and radiographically in the 3rd and 6th months and every 6th month thereafter for at least 18 months. Clinically, the mobility, periodontal plaque, bleeding on probing, percussion sensitivity, periodontal pocket, vitality, and occlusion, and radiographically, the root resorption, ankylosis, presence of lamina dura, and healing of periapical lesion were assessed. RESULT By the end of 12th month, and thereafter, all transplanted teeth were in occlusion and functioning properly with no clinical or radiological signs of pathology. All of the autotransplantation cases involved in this clinical study were successful within a mean follow-up period of 20.4 months with the least one of 18 months. CONCLUSION Immediate autotransplantation of the immature third molars to the place of mandibular first or second molars with extraction indication due to the periapical lesion can be a proper treatment option for adolescent patients.

Abstract
Background In medicine and dentistry, 3D technology allows the virtual planning and printing of surgical replicas of anatomical structures that can facilitate certain transplant procedures. In dentistry, 3D technology is useful in autogenous tooth transplantation. Case presentation We present a clinical case of an ectopic mandibular second premolar, describing the preoperative planning with dental replicas and the autotransplantation surgery. 3D prints of the surgical replica of the tooth to be transplanted was made using an Objet30 Prime® Printer, PolyJet. Clinical controls performed at 3, 6 and 12 months indicated the satisfactory evolution of the transplanted tooth. Conclusion 3D additive manufacturing technology allows the preparation of a new recipient socket with the aid of a surgical replica of the tooth to be transplanted, thus minimizing handling and extraoral time.

Abstract
Background Autogenous Tooth Transplantation (ATT) is the surgical movement of a maturely or immaturely formed tooth from its original site to another extraction site or a surgically prepared socket in the same individual. The most important factor in the healing process after autotransplantation is the presence of intact and viable periodontal ligament cells, which have the ability to differentiate into osteoblasts and able to induce bone production. ATT can successfully replace removable dentures as a restoration option in a growing patient, while implants can be placed only after skeletal maturity is attained. Case Presentation. In this case, we presented an immediate ATT of the third molar with unformed roots to the extraction socket of the first molar with evidence of continued root formation after 2 years of follow-up. Conclusion Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) can induce sustainable and accelerated healing, and it can also induce the regeneration process of the periodontal tissues and pulpal formation. This process plays a key role in future root development and success rate.

Abstract
This review paper summarizes 60 years of progress in the orthodontic care of patients with complete clefts of the lip, alveolus, and palate. The progress and evolution of orthodontic treatment for patients with complete clefts has taken a slow and sometimes circuitous route to present-day standards. Nonetheless, in spite of this history of slow and inefficient scientific and clinical progress, review of the literature of the past 60 years does, in fact, reveal that progress has been made. This progress has not only been in the area of improved surgical and orthodontic techniques but also relative to the scientific weaknesses of past decades. The investigations of more recent years seem to be moving in a direction of better documentation, stricter methodologies, longer-term follow-up, larger sample sizes, etc. However, there remains much work to be done. Only by adopting a more critical approach will protocols be defined that can achieve optimal outcomes, while minimizing the burden of the orthodontic treatment through elimination of superfluous intervention.

Abstract
Residual periodontal ligament (PDL) and cement mass on the roots of extracted teeth are factors that considerably affect tooth transplantation. Therefore, when normal extracted teeth are used for autologous transplantation, it is necessary to regenerate the PDL of the root surface. Here we describe a method to examine human PDL cell adhesion on sterilized root surfaces. Sample teeth were extracted during orthodontic treatment. PDL cells were obtained from healthy periodontal tissue explants from teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons. We developed a method for adhering PDL cells to sterile root surfaces using three-dimensional culture for 3 weeks. We evaluated the adhesion of human PDL cells to the sterilized root surfaces biochemically and histologically. The adherent PDL cells presented new projections on the sterile root surfaces. Therefore, PDL cells can adhere to sterile root surfaces.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autotransplantation of teeth (TX) is a predictable treatment option, although this type of therapy is often overlooked compared to other types of restorations. PURPOSE As current literature contains few long-term studies concerning the outcome of autotransplanted immature molars, the aim was to evaluate results after a follow-up period of 5 years. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective study enrolled all patients treated with immature autotransplanted molars after a follow-up period of 5 years. In order to ensure comparable results, survival rate was investigated as well as clinical and radiological parameters. Contralateral teeth (TC) were used as controls for further assessments and for ensuring comparable future results. RESULTS 52 patients with 66 TX were examined. Mean age at the time of surgery was 19.64 years. Tooth survival rate after 5 years was 89.39%. The results for parameters such as PPD, BOP, mobility, dental caries, periapical pathologies and endodontic treatments showed no differences. In contrast, dental restorations (p < 0.001), occlusal contacts (p = 0.003) and sensitivity (p < 0.001) differed significantly between TX and TC. CONCLUSIONS The current findings clearly confirm that TX is an effective alternative treatment option to fixed prosthodontic restorations and dental implants, and provides for results equivalent to those with the patients' natural teeth.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the long-term clinical outcomes of mature third molar autotransplantation in surgically created sockets and fresh extraction sockets with regard to survival and functional success rates. A total of 65 third molars with completely formed roots were autotransplanted in 60 patients (average age 33.1 years). Thirty-six of the teeth were autotransplanted into surgically created sockets with or without guided bone regeneration (GBR; delayed autotransplantation), while 29 were autotransplanted into fresh extraction sockets (immediate autotransplantation; control group). All patients underwent annual clinical and radiographic examinations (average follow-up 9.9 years, range 7-13 years). The survival rates for the control, GBR, and no GBR groups were 93.1%, 95.2%, and 80.0%, respectively, with no significant differences among the groups. There were no statistically significant differences among the groups with regard to the frequency of inflammatory root resorption or root ankylosis. Age did not influence the clinical outcomes. These results suggest that the autotransplantation of third molars with completely formed roots is effective in both surgically created and fresh extraction sockets and provides a high long-term success rate if cases are selected and treated appropriately.

Abstract
Avulsed and lost anterior teeth are common in young people. Using autotransplantation, it is possible to move problems in dental arches to regions where they are easier to solve orthodontically. Transplantation of premolars with three-quarter root formation or full root formation with wide open apical foramina provides the best prognosis for long-term survival. This article describes the use of autotransplantation and orthodontic treatment, together with cryopreservation, in connection with complicated trauma in the anterior region of an 8-year-old female child.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Agenesis of a maxillary lateral incisor occurs in about 2% of the population. Treatment options should adapt to natural biologic changes in a lifelong perspective. METHODS AND RESULTS A young woman with bilateral agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisors was treated with transplantation of a developing maxillary third molar on one side and a dental implant on the contralateral side, after orthodontic space opening. The periodontal examination, including bacterial testing of the transplant, the implant, and the control central incisor, was performed 9 years after the treatment. A radiologic assessment was also performed. The transplanted tooth did not differ from a natural incisor, except for the pulp obliteration, and the total bacteria count was higher at the implant site. The periodontal tissues around the implant showed progressive signs of recession. CONCLUSIONS Both tooth transplants and dental implants for replacing missing maxillary incisors can be effective in the long term. This report supports natural tooth substitution rather than implant placement for dental agenesis in the anterior maxilla.

Abstract
Autotransplantation can be a treatment option for tooth loss as an alternative to fixed or implant-supported prostheses. It has predictable results comparable to implants, with reported success rates often greater than 90%. In present case, buccally erupted matured third molar was autotransplanted in extraction socket of grossly carious mandibular second molar. The tooth was splinted for 1 week followed by root canal treatment. After 12 months follow up, tooth was in perfect state of function and aesthetic with healthy periapical and periodontal architecture. High success rate was found in immature tooth transplantation in previous case reports. This case report describes that even matured tooth can also be used as donor if atraumatic extraction is possible and endodontic treatment is well performed.

Abstract
This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of an 11-year-old girl with solitary median maxillary central incisor syndrome, a presumed microform of holoprosencephaly. Because both second premolars were missing in the maxilla, deciduous molar extraction and orthodontic space opening were performed, moving the solitary median maxillary central incisor electively off-center. A mandibular second premolar was transplanted to replace the missing incisor. The resulting spaces could be orthodontically closed in both arches. Prosthodontic reshaping of the transplanted tooth after debonding completed the dental treatment.

Abstract
AIM This case describes the successful transplantation of a mature mesiodens tooth to replace a traumatized maxillary central incisor. SUMMARY A 17-year-old male attended 1 week after a traumatic injury to his left maxillary central incisor (tooth 21). Radiographs revealed a horizontal root fracture and a poor prognosis. The tooth was atraumatically removed and replaced with a mesiodens lying in the same region. After stabilization, root canal treatment was performed and aesthetics were restored with a tooth coloured restoration. A 2-year follow-up revealed the tooth had good aesthetics and function. KEY LEARNING POINTS A supernumerary nonfunctional tooth such as a mesiodens can be successfully used to replace a missing permanent tooth by autotransplantation. Autotransplantation has a high success rate if case selection is good, appropriate surgery is carried out and excellent hygiene is maintained. Autotransplantation should be considered as one of the most biologic techniques for replacing a missing tooth with minimal cost. Autotransplantation can be carried out even after complete root formation in the donor tooth.

Abstract
AIM Autotransplantation is a viable treatment option for a missing tooth when there is a suitable donor, especially in adolescents with remaining facial growth. This report presents the aesthetic restoration of a missing maxillary lateral incisor through orthodontic treatment and autotransplantation of a mesiodens using a CBCT-fabricated rapid-prototyping model. SUMMARY A 14-year-old male patient with a congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisor was referred from the Department of Orthodontics. The teeth were moved orthodontically to regain space for the missing lateral incisor and to close the space of the mesiodens after transplantation. A replica of the donor tooth was fabricated from a cone-beam computed tomography scan through a rapid-prototyping machine before autotransplantation surgery. The model was used to create a socket for the graft tooth, thereby shortening the extra-oral time and minimizing the damage to the root surface. After transplantation and orthodontic tooth movement, the mesiodens was finally restored with an aesthetic laminate restoration. Over 3 years, the aesthetics remained excellent, and the transplant functioned normally without any signs or symptoms of root resorption. KEY LEARNING POINT Missing anterior teeth may be replaced through a combination of orthodontics, autotransplantation with a rapid-prototyping model and prosthodontic restoration, in growing patients.
