Abstract
Piroxicam (PX) as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) can be effectively used for anti-inflammatory and analgesia. However, overdoses may induce side effects such as gastrointestinal ulcers and headaches. Therefore, the assay of piroxicam has considerable significance. In this work, nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) was synthesized for PX detection. The fluorescence sensor was fabricated by hydrothermal method with plant soot and ethylenediamine. The strategy exhibited a detection range of 6-200 μg/mL and 250-700 μg/mL with the limited detection of 2 μg/mL. The mechanism of the PX assay base on the fluorescence sensor was the process of electron transfer between the PX and N-CDs. The assay subsequently demonstrated could be successfully used in actual sample. The results indicated that the N-CDs could be a superior candidate nanomaterial for piroxicam monitoring in the healthcare product industry.

Abstract
Piroxicam (PRM) and meloxicam (MEL) are two nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, belonging to the Biopharmaceutics Classification System Class II drugs. In this study, six novel pharmaceutical salts of PRM and MEL with three basic organic counterions, that is, 4-aminopyridine (4AP), 4-dimethylaminopyridine (4DMP), and piperazine (PPZ), were prepared by both slurrying and slow evaporation. These salts were characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. All six salts, especially MEL-4DMP and MEL-4AP, showed a significantly improved apparent solubility and dissolution rate in sodium phosphate solution compared with the pure APIs. Notably, PRM-4AP and PRM-4DMP salts exhibited enhanced fluorescence, and the PRM-PPZ salt showed weaker fluorescence compared with that of pure PRM due to different luminescence mechanisms.

Abstract
In this study, a sensitive fluorimetric method is proposed for the determination of piroxicam using nitrogen graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) and gold nanoparticles coated with phenylalanine. The fluorescence emission of N-GQDs at 440 nm decreases with the increase of gold nanoparticles coated with phenylalanine. However, the addition of piroxicam causes the release of gold nanoparticles from the surface of quantum dots followed by the retrieval of the fluorescence emission of N-GQDs. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration graph was linear in the concentration range of 2.0-35.0 nmol L-1 for piroxicam with a limit of detection of 0.11 nmol L-1. The developed method was successfully applied for the determination of piroxicam in urine and serum samples.

Abstract
A comprehensive profile of piroxicam including the nomenclatures, formulae, elemental composition, appearance, uses and applications. The methods which were utilized for the preparation of the drug substance and their respective schemes are outlined. The physical characteristics of the drug including the ionization constant, solubility, x-ray powder diffraction pattern, differential scanning calorimetry, thermal behavior and spectroscopic studies are described. The methods which were used for the analysis of the drug substance in bulk drug and/or in pharmaceutical formulations including the compendial, spectrophotometric, electrochemical and the chromatographic methods are reported. The stability, toxicity, pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, drug evaluation, comparison, in addition to compiled reviews on the drug substance are involved. Finally, more than four hundred and fifty references are listed at the end of this profile.

Abstract
The application of generalized rank annihilation method (GRAM) to the analysis of fluorescence excitation-emission matrices of mixtures of piroxicam and pyridoxine is described. The input of GRAM consists of two bilinear data matrices, i.e. one for unknown and one for the calibration sample. The excitation wavelength range was from 290 to 340 nm and the emission was recorded from 370 to 560 nm. Piroxicam and pyridoxine were determined in the concentration ranges 0.33 - 4.00 microg ml(-1) and 0.66 - 8.00 microg ml(-1), respectively. To check the accuracy of the proposed method, several binary synthetic mixtures and one real sample were analyzed successfully. No matrix effect was observed in mixture analysis, so a single external calibration sample was used for each analyte. The ability of GRAM to quantify the studied compounds and the comparability of GRAM results were evaluated by comparing them with those of PLS regression as a standard first-order calibration.

Abstract
A quantitative thin-layer chromatography (TLC)-matrix-assisted laser desorption (MALDI) TOF mass spectrometry (MS) method for the determination of Piroxicam has been developed. Following preliminary experiments three different approaches to the incorporation of the internal standard (Tenoxicam) into the TLC plates were investigated. These were: (a) adding the internal standard to the mobile phase and pre-developing the plate, (b) coating the plate with internal standard by electrospraying prior to matrix application and finally, (c) mixing the internal standard into the matrix solution and electrospraying both. The most successful method was that where the internal standard was pre-developed over the plate. For this method linearity was observed over the range between 400 and 800ng of Piroxicam. The precision was found to be in the range of 1-9% R.S.D. from the average detected value (n = 5), dependent on the amount of analyte on the TLC plate. The proposed method was accurate with +/-2% deviation from the known amount of Piroxicam in the sample spot.

Abstract
The British Pharmacopoeia defines 2-aminopyridine (2-AP) as a potential impurity in piroxicam (PX) and tenoxicam (TX). Selective spectrofluorimetric determination of 2-AP in PX and TX, within or near the pharmacopoeial level, 0.2%, was developed, based on the measurement of the native fluorescence either in aqueous 0.1N sulfuric acid or in dioxane. Accordingly, this approach was followed for confirming purity of PX and TX in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. The study was also extended to include simultaneous determinations of PX/2-AP and TX/2-AP systems based on selective fluorescence measurements in the cited solvents.

Abstract
A spectrophotometric method is described and applied to resolve ternary mixtures of the corticosteroid dexamethasone sodium phosphate and the vitamins B6 and B12. It involves multivariate calibration based on partial least-squares regression. The model was built with UV-vis absorption spectra, and was evaluated by cross-validation on a number of synthetic mixtures. Satisfactory results for both artificial and commercial samples were obtained. A spectrofluorometric method was also developed for the determination of B6 in the presence of vitamin B12 and dexamethasone. The results provided by both methods for pharmaceutical formulations were compared successfully. None of the described procedures require sample pre-treatment steps.

Abstract
A rapid, selective, sensitive and simple fluorescence method was developed for the direct determination of naproxen in tablets. The tablets were triturated, dissolved in either NH(3) or NaOH solution, sonicated, filtered and then direct fluorescence emission was read at 353 nm (exciting at 271 nm). In order to validate the method the results were compared with those obtained by the USP XXIV NF 19 Pharmacopeia reference method (high performance liquid chromatography). The slope, intercept and variances which are associated with the regression coefficient calculated with bivariate least square (BLS) regression indicate that both methods are statistically comparable. The recoveries were excellent, except in tablets containing the antibiotic tetracycline. In this latter case a correction procedure is necessary.

Abstract
The interaction of tenoxicam with six metal ions, viz. Fe(III), Bi(III), Sb(III), Cr(III), Cd(II) and Al(III) was studied using potentiometric and fluorimetric methods. In the potentiometric method the ionization constant of the ligand and stability constants of the complexes formed have been tabulated at 25+/-0.1 degrees C, ionic strength of NaNO3 in 50% (v/v) aqueous acetonitrile solution was 0.05 mol x dm(-3). Complexes of 1:1 and/or 1:2 and/or 1:3 metal to ligand ratios are formed. The fluorescence of tenoxicam in the presence and absence of the metal ions was studied. The drug can be determined fluorimetrically in 0.5 M HNO3 at an emission wavelength of 450 nm (excitation at 350 nm). The linear range is 0.040-0.2 microg/ml in the absence of Al(III) and 0.016-0.1 microg/ml in the presence of Al(III). Tenoxicam was determined by the proposed method in tablet, suppository and injection. The recovery percent ranged from 98.16 to 102.22%. The effect of 2-aminopyridine on the recovery of tenoxicam was also investigated.

Abstract
A simple flow injection UV spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of piroxicam. The method is based on its transient retention and concentration on Sephadex DEAE-A-25 anion-exchange gel beads packed in the flow cell and the continuous monitoring of its native absorbance on the solid phase at 354 nm. The sample was injected into a 0.1 M NaCl carrier stream at pH 9.5 by using a simple monochannel FIA manifold. When the analytical signal reached a maximum value, piroxicam was eluted from the solid support by means of a desorbing solution (0.2 M, pH 4.5). The response of the sensor was linear in the concentration range 0.5-10 microg ml(-1) with a R.S.D. (%) of 1.8, a detection limit (3 sigma criterion) of 0.1 microg ml(-1) and a sampling rate of 13 h(-1). Application to the analysis of pharmaceutical samples testifies to the utility of this sensor. The accuracy of the proposed method was better than 5%.

Abstract
The spectrofluorometric determination of ibuprofen in pharmaceutical tablets, creams and syrup is described. It involves excitation at 263 nm and emission at 288 nm. the linear range is 2-73 mg L(-1). Other drugs or excipients present in the different formulations do not interfere, except in the case of chlorzoxazone containing tablets. Due to its strong absorbance in the spectral range the chlorzoxazone does interfere, so that in this case the proposed method can't be applied.

Abstract
A rapid and sensitive HPTLC method was developed and validated for the estimation of Piroxicam (PM). Spectrodensitometric scanning-integration was performed at an absorbance wavelength of 360 nm. To justify the suitability, accuracy and precision of the proposed method, recovery studies were performed at three concentration levels. One of the degradation products of PM is 2-aminopyridine (2AP). It becomes imperative to separate this compound as it is a precursor during synthesis of the drug. A TLC aluminium plate precoated with silica gel 60F-254 was used as the stationary phase. The solvent system toluene-acetic acid (8:2 v/v) gave a dense and compact spot of PM with a Rf value of 0.58 +/- 0.01 which was well separated from 2AP (Rf 0.23 +/- 0.01). The polynomial regression data for the calibration plots exhibited good linear relationship (coefficient of correlation r = 0.9982) over a concentration range of 400-800 ng. Statistical analysis proves that the proposed method is accurate and reproducible. The method is stability indicating and being economical can be employed for the routine analysis in bulk drug as well as pharmaceutical formulations.
