Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vocal fold paresis or paralysis (VFP) may severely affect quality of life due to dysphonia and respiratory distress. As an increasing percentage of the United States population receives the COVID-19 vaccination, the objective of this study is to determine the correlation of COVID-19 postvaccination recurrent laryngeal neuropathy and resulting VFP. METHODS The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System database was queried for patients exhibiting symptoms of VFP following COVID-19 vaccination. Patient demographics and clinical information including presenting symptoms, time of symptom onset, time of diagnosis and laterality. RESULTS Twenty patients were found to have laryngoscopy confirmed VFP following COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccinations for Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Janssen were reported. Of those reported, 13 patients were female (65.0%) and seven were male (35.0%), with a mean age of 61.8 years. The most common presenting symptom was a hoarse voice (30.0%). A majority of these cases were unilateral in nature (64.0%). Mean time from vaccination to symptom onset was 12.1 days and mean time from vaccination to diagnosis was 37.6 days. CONCLUSION For patients presenting with voice or swallowing complaints after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, prompt evaluation by an otolaryngologist should occur. However, the potential VFP side effect of vaccination is very rarely cited in the literature and largely outweighed by the benefits of vaccination. Further research is needed to delineate the exact pathophysiology of this complication and determine whether a causal relationship exists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE Numb chin syndrome (NCS) is a critical sign of systemic malignancy; however it remains largely unknown by clinicians and dentists. The aim of this study was to investigate NCS that is more often associated with metastatic cancers than with benign diseases. METHODS Sixteen patients with NCS were diagnosed and treated. The oral and radiographic manifestations were assessed. RESULTS Four (25%) of 16 patients with NCS were affected by nonmalignant diseases (19% by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw and 6% by osteopetrosis); yet 12 (75%) patient conditions were caused by malignant metastasis, either in the mandible (62%) or intracranial invasion (13%). NCS was unilateral in 13 cases and bilateral in three cases. Mandibular pain and masticatory weakness often dominate the clinical features in NCS associated with cancer metastasis. In two patients, NCS preceded the discovery of unknown malignancy (breast cancer and leukemia). In nine others, NCS heralded malignancy relapse and progression. Metastatic breast cancer in four (36%) cases accounted for the most common malignancy. Other metastatic diseases included two multiple myelomas, and one each of leukemia, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, maxillary sinus adenoid cystic carcinoma and adrenal gland neuroblastoma. Radiographic examinations showed obvious mandibular metastasis with compression of the inferior alveolar nerve or mental nerve in nine patients, and leptomeningeal seeding or intracranial metastasis to the trigeminal nerve root at the skull base in two patients. CONCLUSION NCS without obvious odontogenic causes or trauma often signals systemic malignancy. It may be the first clue of occult malignancy.

Abstract
A wide spectrum of drugs can sometimes give rise to numerous adverse orofacial manifestations, particularly dry mouth, taste disturbances, oral mucosal ulceration, and/or gingival swelling. There are few relevant randomized double-blind controlled studies in this field, and therefore this paper reviews the data from case reports, small series, and non-peer-reviewed reports of adverse drug reactions affecting the orofacial region (available from a MEDLINE search to April, 2003). The more common and significant adverse orofacial consequences of drug therapy are discussed.

Abstract
"Numb chin syndrome" (NCS) refers to new-onset numbness of the lower lip and chin within the distribution of the mental or inferior alveolar nerves. While this focal numbness may be downplayed or even overlooked by patients and clinicians, in the right clinical scenario this may be the presenting symptom of an underlying malignancy. In the absence of any obvious, temporally related dental cause, there are certain conditions that clinicians should consider including orofacial and systemic malignancies as well as several inflammatory disorders. Thorough diagnostic evaluation should always be performed when no clear cause is evident. This paper will discuss the differential, recommended evaluations, and the prognosis, for a patient presenting with NCS.

Abstract
Hepatitis B vaccine has been administered in children and adults routinely to reduce the incidence of the disease. Even though, hepatitis B vaccine is considered as highly safe, some adverse reactions have been reported. A literature search was carried out in PubMed, accessed via the National Library of Medicine PubMed interface, searching used the following keywords: Hepatitis B vaccine and complications from 1980 to 2014. A total of 1147 articles were obtained out of which articles, which discuss the complications occurring orally or occurring elsewhere in the body, which have the potential to manifest orally after hepatitis B vaccination were selected. A total of 82 articles were identified which included 58 case series or case reports, 15 review articles, 4 cross sectional studies, 3 prospective cohort studies, one retrospective cohort study and a case control study. After reviewing the literature, we observed that complications seen after Hepatitis B vaccination are sudden infant death syndrome, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, vasculititis optic neuritis, anaphylaxis, systemic lupus erytymatosus, lichen planus and neuro-muscular disorder. Of these complications, some are manifested orally or have the potential to manifest orally. Although, most of the complications are self-limiting, some are very serious conditions, which require hospitalization with immediate medical attention.

Abstract
Bell's palsy is the sudden onset of unilateral transient paralysis of facial muscles resulting from dysfunction of the seventh cranial nerve. Presented here is a 26-year-old female patient with right lower motor neurone facial palsy following hepatitis B vaccination. Readers' attention is drawn to an uncommon cause of Bell's palsy, as a possible rare complication of hepatitis B vaccination, and steps taken to manage such a presentation.

Abstract
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an important infectious cause of acute and chronic liver disease throughout the world. Recombinant hepatitis B vaccines have been developed to combat morbidity and mortality associated with HBV infection. These vaccines have been associated with autoimmune diseases mostly among adult vaccine recipients. Epidemiological surveys have not established unequivocal causality between the hepatitis B vaccine and the development of various autoimmune neuromuscular disorders. However, case histories and series hint at a temporal association between hepatitis B vaccines and the development of various neuropathy syndromes, polyarteritis nodosa complicated by vasculitic neuropathy, myasthenia gravis and dermatomyositis. Conceivably, the hepatitis B vaccines have a potential to occasionally trigger the onset of immune diseases in individuals with an underlying genetic or immunological susceptibility.

Abstract
Trigeminal sensory neuropathy is an important finding, often indicative of trauma but sometimes related to neoplasia, infections, demyelinating conditions, connective tissue disorders, other disorders, or, occasionally, drugs. This paper reports on a patient with sudden-onset trigeminal sensory neuropathy of the lip that proved to be drug-induced, secondary to the antimalarial drug mefloquine. This appears to be the first report of sensory impairment in the orofacial region from exposure to mefloquine.

Abstract
Immunisations have been one of the most cost-effective public health interventions in human history. Despite remarkable progress, several challenges face immunisation programs worldwide. Paradoxically, despite vaccines' clear effectiveness in reducing risks of diseases that were previously widely prevalent and caused substantial morbidity and mortality, current vaccination policies have become increasingly controversial due to concerns about vaccine safety. Vaccines, like other pharmaceutical products, are not entirely risk-free. While most known adverse effects are minor and self-limited, some vaccines have been associated with very rare but serious adverse effects. Because such rare effects are often not evident until vaccines come into widespread use, ongoing surveillance programs to monitor vaccine safety are needed. Such monitoring will be essential if the public is to accept the increasing number of new vaccines made possible by biotechnology. The interpretation of data from vaccine safety research is complex and is associated with some uncertainty. Effectively communicating this uncertainty and continuing to improve understanding of rare risks and risk factors are essential for "mature" immunisation programs to maintain public confidence in immunisations.

Abstract
Mental nerve neuropathy, also referred to as numb chin syndrome, is a rare, seemingly harmless symptom. It is more often associated with cancer, either as first symptom or during the outcome, than with benign diseases. In this review, we will focus on the numb chin syndrome presenting as an isolated neurological symptom. We report five patients with mental nerve neuropathy associated with metastatic disease (small cell lung cancer, prostatic cancer and breast cancer). In one patient, numb chin syndrome preceded the discovery of the disease, while, in the four others, it occurred as a sign of relapse or progression. Isolated mental nerve neuropathy, frequently associated with breast cancer and lymphoproliferative diseases, is generally thought to be the consequence of bone metastases or leptomeningeal seeding, but may also present without an obvious cause, most often secondary to the involvement of the mental nerve itself. Although various therapies may lead to the resolution of this symptom, median survival after diagnosis is generally less than 1 year. The appearance of a mental nerve neuropathy should never be considered as a 'banal' symptom and investigations to detect a possible cancer should be mandatory.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To obtain an overview of rheumatic disorders occurring after hepatitis B vaccination. METHODS A questionnaire was sent to rheumatology departments in nine French hospitals. Criteria for entry were rheumatic complaints of 1 week's duration or more, occurrence during the 2 months following hepatitis B vaccination, no previously diagnosed rheumatic disease and no other explanation for the complaints. RESULTS Twenty-two patients were included. The observed disorders were as follows: rheumatoid arthritis for six patients; exacerbation of a previously non-diagnosed systemic lupus erythematosus for two; post-vaccinal arthritis for five; polyarthralgia-myalgia for four; suspected or biopsy-proved vasculitis for three; miscellaneous for two. CONCLUSIONS Hepatitis B vaccine might be followed by various rheumatic conditions and might trigger the onset of underlying inflammatory or autoimmune rheumatic diseases. However, a causal relationship between hepatitis B vaccination and the observed rheumatic manifestations cannot be easily established. Further epidemiological studies are needed to establish whether hepatitis B vaccination is associated or not with an incidence of rheumatic disorders higher than normal.
