Preparation and Application of Core-shell Magnetic Imprinted Nanoparticles for Bisphenol A

Rapid Colorimetric Detection of Cartap Residues by AgNP Sensor with Magnetic Molecularly Imprinted Microspheres as Recognition Elements

The overuse of cartap in tea tree leads to hazardous residues threatening human health. A colorimetric determination was established to detect cartap residues in tea beverages by silver nanoparticles (AgNP) sensor with magnetic molecularly imprinted polymeric microspheres (Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs) as recognition elements. Using Fe₃O₄ as supporting core, mesoporous SiO₂ as intermediate shell, methylacrylic acid as functional monomer, and cartap as template, Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs were prepared to selectively and magnetically separate cartap from tea solution before colorimetric determination by AgNP sensors. The core-shell Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs were also characterized by FT-IR, TEM, VSM, and experimental adsorption. The Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs could be rapidly separated by an external magnet in 10 s with good reusability (maintained 95.2% through 10 cycles). The adsorption process of cartap on Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs conformed to Langmuir adsorption isotherm with maximum adsorption capacity at 0.257 mmol/g and short equilibrium time of 30 min at 298 K. The AgNP colorimetric method semi-quantified cartap ≥5 mg/L by naked eye and quantified cartap 0.1–5 mg/L with LOD 0.01 mg/L by UV-vis spectroscopy. The AgNP colorimetric detection after pretreatment with Fe₃O₄@mSiO₂@MIPs could be successfully utilized to recognize and detect cartap residues in tea beverages.

Advances in sensing and biosensing of bisphenols: A review

Bisphenols (BPs) are well known endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that cause adverse effects on the environment, biotic life and human health. BPs have been studied extensively because of an increasing concern for the safety of the environment and for human health. They are major raw materials for manufacturing polycarbonates, thermal papers and epoxy resins and are considered hazardous environmental contaminants. A vast array of sensors and biosensors have been developed for the sensitive screening of BPs based on carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene and graphene oxide), quantum dots, metal and metal oxide nanocomposites, polymer nanocomposites, metal organic frameworks, ionic liquids and molecularly imprinted polymers. This review is devoted mainly to a variety of sensitive, selective and reliable sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs using electrochemistry, fluorescence, colorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, luminescence, ELISAs, circular dichroism, resonance Rayleigh scattering and adsorption techniques in plastic products, food samples, food packaging, industrial wastes, pharmaceutical products, human body fluids and many other matrices. It summarizes the advances in sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs since 2010. Furthermore, the article discusses challenges and future perspectives in the development of novel sensing methods for the detection of BP analogs.

Removal of bisphenol A by iron nanoparticle-doped magnetic ordered mesoporous carbon

Iron nanoparticle-doped magnetic ordered mesoporous carbon (Fe/OMC) was prepared by co-impregnation and carbothermal reduction methods, and used for highly effective adsorption and degradation of bisphenol A (BPA).

Preparation of 4-butylaniline-bonded attapulgite for pre-concentration of bisphenol A in trace quantity

Ring-opening reaction with synchronous hydrolysis was used to prepare 4-butylaniline-modified attapulgite (abbreviated as BA-ATP) for pre-concentration of bisphenol A (BPA) in trace quantity. The preparation was achieved under mild condition, and the material was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), elemental analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron microscopy. BA-ATP was used in solid phase extraction (SPE), and SPE was performed in a neutral condition without regard to ionic strength. The results indicate that BA-ATP has high affinity to BPA with a maximum adsorption amount of 44mg g(-1), and the adsorption can be described by Langmuir isotherm model. The content of bisphenol A in water samples was analyzed by HPLC method with the pre-concentration using BA-ATP. The limit of detection (LOD) can be as low as 3.9ng mL(-1), and the average recoveries are in a range of 93-97% with relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 2%.

Application of molecularly imprinted polymers in wastewater treatment: a review

Molecularly imprinted polymers are synthetic polymers possessing specific cavities designed for target molecules. They are prepared by copolymerization of a cross-linking agent with the complex formed from a template and monomers that have functional groups specifically interacting with the template through covalent or noncovalent bonds. Subsequent removal of the imprint template leaves specific cavities whose shape, size, and functional groups are complementary to the template molecule. Because of their predetermined selectivity, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can be used as ideal materials in wastewater treatment. Especially, MIP-based composites offer a wide range of potentialities in wastewater treatment. This paper reviews the latest applications of MIPs in wastewater treatment, highlights the development of MIP-based composites in wastewater, and offers suggestions for future success in the field of MIPs.
