Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary objective was to describe the standardized body mass index (z-BMI) trajectory of children and adolescents admitted to a psychiatric reference center in Mexico City according to their diagnosis and medication use. The secondary objective was to compare z-BMI between antipsychotic users and non-users. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study. The psychiatric diagnosis, prescribed medications, serial heights, and weights were collected from the medical records. RESULTS The median baseline z-BMI of the 129 analyzed cases was 0.88 (interquartile range [IQR]: 0-1.92), and the prevalence of excessive weight (obesity or overweight) was 46.8 %. At the end of follow-up (median 50.3 weeks), the median change in z-BMI was -0.09 (IQR: -0.68 to 0.42). New long-term users of antipsychotics (n=29) had an increase in their z-BMI, in contrast to never-users (median difference 0.73, p=0.01) and to previous users (median difference 0.92, p=0.047). The 59 subjects with excessive weight at admission had a median z-BMI change of -0.39 (IQR: -0.81 to -0.04). Among patients with excessive weight and depression, there was a greater decrease in z-BMI in sertraline users (n=13) compared with fluoxetine users (n=15) (median -0.65 vs. 0.21, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS New long-term users of antipsychotics showed a significant increase in their z-BMI. Patients with depressive disorders and obesity on sertraline therapy tended to show a decrease in their z-BMI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many studies have analyzed the association between family cohesion and depression, but there are different views and the results are inconsistent. It is necessary to use meta-analysis to explore the association between family cohesion and depression and its influencing factors. METHODS Chinese database (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) and English databases (ERIC, MEDLINE, Web of Science Core Collection, Elsevier SD, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, and ProQuest dissertations and theses) were searched for articles published by November 2023. Measurements of family cohesion and depression, study design, age, gender, cultural background, and sampling year were analyzed as moderators. Meta-analysis was performed using the random effects model in CMA3.0 software. RESULTS A total of 71 studies (90,023 participants) were included in this study. The meta-analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between family cohesion and depression (r = -0.31, 95 % CI [-0.35, -0.27]). The association was moderated by measurements of family cohesion and depression, design type, and cultural background, but not by age, gender, or sampling year. LIMITATIONS The sample size included in this study is relatively small in European and African cultures, making it challenging to analyze cultural differences in the study results at present comprehensively. CONCLUSIONS The findings contribute to the ongoing debate between Social Support Theory and The Circumplex Model, showing that individuals with lower family cohesion tend to experience higher levels of depression.

Abstract
Although observational studies have found both a positive and negative association between depression and hypercholesterolemia, the findings are mixed and contradictory. To our knowledge, this is the first study that employs the bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) and multivariable MR analysis with extensive genome-wide association studies (GWAS) data to examine the causal effect between depression and hypercholesterolemia. Using summary statistics obtained from GWAS of individuals with European ancestry, we utilize a bidirectional 2-sample MR approach to explore the potential causal association between hypercholesterolemia and depressive symptoms. Multivariable Mendelian randomization analysis was used to examine whether the direct causal effect of depression on the risk of hypercholesterolemia can be affected by traits associated with the increased risk of hypercholesterolemia. This MR analysis utilized inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted mode, and weighted median methods. Data on the summary level of depression were acquired from a GWAS that involved 500,199 participants. We used summary GWAS datasets for hypercholesterolemia including 206,067 participants. We also used another GWAS databases of hypercholesterolemiat (n = 463,010) to validate our results. By utilizing IVW, it was discovered that there is a possibility of a 31% rise in the risk of hypercholesterolemia due to depression (OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.10-1.57, P = .002). We found a consistent causal effect of depression on hypercholesterolemia from the IVW analyses using different hypercholesterolemia datasets. After adjustment of smoking, physical activity, and obesity, there remains significant causal relationship between depression and hypercholesterolemia (OR = 1.25, 95% CI = 1.01-1.54, P = .040). However, we did not find any evidence indicating that hypercholesterolemia leads to depression in the opposite direction. Directional pleiotropy was not observed in the MR-Egger regression analysis. Additionally, the MR-PRESSO analysis validated these discoveries. Neither the leave-one-out sensitivity test nor the funnel plots revealed any outliers. In both the unadjusted and adjusted estimates, depression has a consistent direct causal effect on hypercholesterolemia. Our study has led to an improved comprehension of the causal connections between hypercholesterolemia and depression, which could aid in the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Few studies have explored the correlation between cardiovascular health (CVH) and depression. We aimed to investigate the relationship between CVH using Life's Essential 8 (LE8) and depression among US adults. METHODS 16,362 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2018 were included. The patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was utilized to recognized depression (PHQ-9 ≥ 10). LE8 was scored by four health behaviors (sleep, tobacco/nicotine exposure, physical activity and diet) and four health factors (body mass index, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure) and classified into low, moderate and high CVH groups. Weighted logistic regressions, restricted cubic splines and sensitivity analyses were utilized to investigate the correlation between LE8 and depression. RESULTS 1306 subjects had depression (7.98% of the participants), of which 860 (7.42%), 305 (17.24%) and 141 (3.01%) had low, moderate and high CVH, separately. In the fully adjusted model, LE8 was negatively correlated with depression (OR: 5.50, 95% CI 3.92-7.71, P < 0.001). Furthermore, there were inversely dose-response relationships between LE8 and depression (overall P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Adhering to a high CVH, estimated by the LE8 score, was correlated with lower odds of depression.

Abstract
Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most prevalent and detrimental complications of cancer. Emerging evidence suggests that obesity and insulin resistance are associated with CRF occurrence and severity in cancer patients and survivors. In this narrative review, we analyzed recent studies including both preclinical and clinical research on the relationship between obesity and/or insulin resistance and CRF. We also describe potential mechanisms for these relationships, though with the caveat that because the mechanisms underlying CRF are incompletely understood, the mechanisms mediating the association between obesity/insulin resistance and CRF are similarly incompletely delineated. The data suggest that, in addition to their effects to worsen CRF by directly promoting tumor growth and metastasis, obesity and insulin resistance may also contribute to CRF by inducing chronic inflammation, neuroendocrinological disturbance, and metabolic alterations. Furthermore, studies suggest that patients with obesity and insulin resistance experience more cancer-induced pain and are at more risk of emotional and behavioral disruptions correlated with CRF. However, other studies implied a potentially paradoxical impact of obesity and insulin resistance to reduce CRF symptoms. Despite the need for further investigation utilizing interventions to directly elucidate the mechanisms of cancer-related fatigue, current evidence demonstrates a correlation between obesity and/or insulin resistance and CRF, and suggests potential therapeutics for CRF by targeting obesity and/or obesity-related mediators.

Abstract
Background This study examined whether C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of low-grade systemic inflammation, mediates the association between vascular risk factor (VRF) burden and depressive symptoms. Methods We drew on the prospective design of the UK Biobank to include participants with longitudinal data on VRF burden, CRP, and depressive symptoms. Total, direct, and indirect effects were estimated using regression-based mediation models while controlling for confounding by sociodemographic factors, baseline CRP, and baseline depression. Sensitivity analyses probed the robustness of results to unmeasured confounding. Results We analyzed data from 10,470 participants from the UK Biobank (mean age = 56.75 years at baseline). Net of covariates, VRFs at baseline were associated with higher depressive symptoms at follow-up (total effect = 0.099; 95% CI, 0.002-0.163). CRP mediated this association (indirect effect = 0.010; 95% CI, 0.004-0.017), accounting for 10.0% (95% CI, 0.3%-30.0%) of the total effect of VRF burden on depressive symptoms. Exploratory analyses suggested that the total and indirect effects pertained to somatic depressive symptoms (tiredness and appetite). Conclusions These results suggest that inflammation-promoting effects of VRFs may contribute to depressive symptoms in mid- and later life. However, the mediating pathway via CRP explains only a small part of the association between VRFs and depression after accounting for important covariates and may pertain to specific depressive symptoms. Future studies leveraging similar longitudinal designs are needed to further disentangle the time-varying effects between VRFs, inflammation, and certain depressive symptoms while addressing important confounders.

Abstract
Objective Observational studies have shown a correlation between unpleasant emotions and coronary atherosclerosis, but the underlying causal linkages are still uncertain. We conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) investigation on two samples for this purpose. Methods In genome-wide association studies in the UK Biobank (total = 459,561), we selected 40 distinct single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to unpleasant emotions as genome-wide statistically significant instrumental variables. FinnGen consortium provided summary-level data on coronary atherosclerosis for 211,203 individuals of Finnish descent. MR-Egger regression, the inverse variance weighted technique (IVW), and the weighted median method were used in the process of conducting data analysis. Results There was sufficient evidence to establish a causal connection between unpleasant emotions and coronary atherosclerosis risk. For each unit increase in the log-odds ratio of unpleasant feelings, the odds ratios were 3.61 (95% CI: 1.64-7.95; P = 0.001). The outcomes of sensitivity analyses were comparable. There was no indication of heterogeneity or directional pleiotropy. Conclusion Our findings provide causal evidence for the effects of unpleasant emotions on coronary atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Internalizing mental disorders are highly comorbid with one another, and evidence suggests that etiological processes contributing to these disorders often overlap. This systematic umbrella review aimed to synthesize meta-analytic evidence from observational longitudinal studies to provide a comprehensive overview of potentially modifiable risk and protective factors across the depressive, anxiety, and eating disorder psychopathology domains. Six databases were searched from inception to August 2022. Only meta-analyses of longitudinal studies that accounted for baseline psychopathology (either via exclusion of baseline cases or statistical adjustment for baseline symptoms) were included. Methodological quality of meta-analyses was evaluated using the AMSTAR 2, and quality of evidence for each analysis was rated using GRADE. Study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction were conducted in duplicate by independent reviewers. The protocol for this review was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020185575). Sixty-one meta-analyses were included, corresponding to 137 meta-analytic estimates for unique risk/protective factor-psychopathology relationships. Most potential risk/protective factors, however, were examined only in relation to depressive psychopathology. Concern over mistakes and self-esteem were the only risk and protective factors, respectively, identified as statistically significant across depressive, anxiety, and eating disorder psychopathology domains. Eight risk factors and four protective factors also emerged as having transdiagnostic relevance across depressive and anxiety domains. Results suggest intervention targets that may be valuable for preventing/treating the spectrum of internalizing psychopathology and reducing comorbidity. However, few factors were identified as transdiagnostically relevant across all three internalizing domains, highlighting the need for more research investigating similar sets of potential risk/protective factors across internalizing domains.

Abstract
Depression rates in young people have risen sharply in the past decade, especially in females, which is of concern because adolescence is a period of rapid social, emotional, and cognitive development and key life transitions. Adverse outcomes associated with depression in young people include depression recurrence; the onset of other psychiatric disorders; and wider, protracted impairments in interpersonal, social, educational, and occupational functioning. Thus, prevention and early intervention for depression in young people are priorities. Preventive and early intervention strategies typically target predisposing factors, antecedents, and symptoms of depression. Young people who have a family history of depression, exposure to social stressors (eg, bullying, discordant relationships, or stressful life events), and belong to certain subgroups (eg, having a chronic physical health problem or being a sexual minority) are at especially high risk of depression. Clinical antecedents include depressive symptoms, anxiety, and irritability. Evidence favours indicated prevention and targeted prevention to universal prevention. Emerging school-based and community-based social interventions show some promise. Depression is highly heterogeneous; therefore, a stepwise treatment approach is recommended, starting with brief psychosocial interventions, then a specific psychological therapy, and then an antidepressant medication.

Abstract
Background Depression confers substantial disease burden globally, especially among those with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The presence of depression significantly impairs one's quality of life. Risk factors for depression in patients with CKD remain under-appreciated, and whether frailty, a geriatric phenotype, constitutes a risk factor for depression in this population is unknown. Methods We prospectively enrolled patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis for >3 months from National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin Branch between 2019 and 2021. Clinical, physical, functional, and performance parameters were recorded, followed by frailty/sarcopenia assessment. Depression was screened for using the Geriatric Depression Scale. We analyzed the independent relationship between frailty and depression in these patients, using multiple regression analyses. Results Totally 151 patients with ESRD were enrolled (mean 61.1 years, 66.9% male), among whom 16.6% had screening-identified depression. ESRD participants with depression did not differ from those without regarding most parameters except serum creatinine, functional indices, and sarcopenia/frailty status. We found that having greater frail severities was independently associated with a higher probability of depression; having FRAIL- (odds ratio [OR] 5.418) and SOF-based (OR 2.858) frailty independently correlated with a higher depression probability. A linear relation exists between a greater frail severity and the probability of depression. Using a more relaxed criterion for detecting depression, higher SOF scores remained significantly associated with an increased depression risk. Conclusions In patients with CKD, frailty independently correlated with a higher probability of having depression. Strategies aiming to attenuate frailty may be able to benefit those with depression simultaneously in this population.
