Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this retrospective archival study was to explore the clinical utility of the Judgment subtest of the Neuropsychological Assessment Battery (NAB) in older adults who were referred because of cognitive concerns. Specifically, we were interested in how NAB Judgment covaried with other measures of executive functioning. METHOD 226 adults, aged 61-89 years (48% dementia, 35% mild cognitive impairment, 18% cognitively intact) completed NAB Judgment. They also completed Trail Making Test (TMT) A and B. In addition, Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF-A) informant and self-reports were obtained to measure executive functioning in daily life. RESULTS Scores on NAB Judgment did not correlate significantly with BRIEF-A informant ratings. However, there was a statistically significant correlation between BRIEF-A informant ratings and TMT B. Better performance on TMT B was associated with fewer informant concerns. Furthermore, subgroups with versus without informant BRIEF-A Metacognition indices in the range of impairment demonstrated a statistically significant difference on TMT B but not on Judgment. CONCLUSIONS Executive functioning in older adults should not be assessed using NAB Judgment alone. Such an evaluation should be supplemented with other in-person tests as well as informant ratings of daily functioning.

Abstract
Cognitive functioning is increasingly considered when making treatment decisions for patients with a brain tumor in view of a personalized onco-functional balance. Ideally, one can predict cognitive functioning of individual patients to make treatment decisions considering this balance. To make accurate predictions, an informative representation of tumor location is pivotal, yet comparisons of representations are lacking. Therefore, this study compares brain atlases and principal component analysis (PCA) to represent voxel-wise tumor location. Pre-operative cognitive functioning was predicted for 246 patients with a high-grade glioma across eight cognitive tests while using different representations of voxel-wise tumor location as predictors. Voxel-wise tumor location was represented using 13 different frequently-used population average atlases, 13 randomly generated atlases, and 13 representations based on PCA. ElasticNet predictions were compared between representations and against a model solely using tumor volume. Preoperative cognitive functioning could only partly be predicted from tumor location. Performances of different representations were largely similar. Population average atlases did not result in better predictions compared to random atlases. PCA-based representation did not clearly outperform other representations, although summary metrics indicated that PCA-based representations performed somewhat better in our sample. Representations with more regions or components resulted in less accurate predictions. Population average atlases possibly cannot distinguish between functionally distinct areas when applied to patients with a glioma. This stresses the need to develop and validate methods for individual parcellations in the presence of lesions. Future studies may test if the observed small advantage of PCA-based representations generalizes to other data.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although the physiological late effects of childhood cancer survivors are more obvious, appropriate assessment of psychosocial effects is needed. Therefore, it was aimed to develop a scale to evaluate psychosocial late effects in cancer survivors and to test its validity and reliability. DESIGN AND METHODS This methodological study was conducted with 100 children and adolescents who survived were collected at the oncology center in the south of Türkiye in 2022. Data were collected with the "Personal Information Form" and "Pediatric Cancer Survivors Psychosocial Late Effects Scale (PCSLES)" IBM SPSS 24.0 and IBM AMOS 24.0 software programs were used for data analysis, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze numeric variables. Exploration and confirmatory factor analyses were performed to determine the scale's factorial structure. RESULTS The factorial analysis was used to test the structural validity of the scale. A four-factor structure consisting of 17 items was developed. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for "1" was 0.89, "2" was 0.87, "3" was 0.80, "4" was 0.82 and the total score was 0.92. Fit indices resulting from the study were χ2/SD: 1.497, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA): 0.071, goodnessof-fit index (GFI): 0.85, comparative-of-fit index (CFI): 0.94, and normed fit index (NFI): 0.85. CONCLUSION The scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to determine psychosocial late effects in pediatric cancer patients. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Utilizing the PCSLES can assist in identifying the psychosocial symptoms of child survivors/adolescents and facilitate the planning of appropriate interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous research identified many clinical variables that are significantly related to cognitive functioning before surgery. It is not clear whether such variables enable accurate prediction for individual patients' cognitive functioning because statistical significance does not guarantee predictive value. Previous studies did not test how well cognitive functioning can be predicted for (yet) untested patients. Furthermore, previous research is limited in that only linear or rank-based methods with small numbers of variables were used. METHODS We used various machine learning models to predict preoperative cognitive functioning for 340 patients with glioma across 18 outcome measures. Predictions were made using a comprehensive set of clinical variables as identified from the literature. Model performances and optimized hyperparameters were interpreted. Moreover, Shapley additive explanations were calculated to determine variable importance and explore interaction effects. RESULTS Best-performing models generally demonstrated above-random performance. Performance, however, was unreliable for 14 out of 18 outcome measures with predictions worse than baseline models for a substantial number of train-test splits. Best-performing models were relatively simple and used most variables for prediction while not relying strongly on any variable. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative cognitive functioning could not be reliably predicted across cognitive tests using the comprehensive set of clinical variables included in the current study. Our results show that a holistic view of an individual patient likely is necessary to explain differences in cognitive functioning. Moreover, they emphasize the need to collect larger cross-center and multimodal data sets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and cognition are important indicators for the quality of survival in patients with high-grade glioma (HGG). However, data on long-term survivors and their caregivers are scarce. We aim to investigate the interaction between cognition and HRQoL in long-term survivors, their caregivers' evaluations, and the effect on caregiver strain and burden. METHODS 21 long-term HGG (8 WHO grade III and 13 WHO grade IV) survivors (survival ≥ 5 years) and 15 caregivers were included. Cognition (verbal memory, attention, executive functioning, and language), HRQoL, anxiety and depression, caregiver strain, and caregiver burden were assessed with standardized measures. Questionnaires were completed by patients and/or their caregivers. RESULTS Mean survival was 12 years (grade III) and 8 years (grade IV). Cognition was significantly impaired with a large individual variety. Patients' general HRQoL was not impaired but all functioning scales were deviant. Patient-proxy agreement was found in most HRQoL subscales. Three patients (14%) showed indications of anxiety or depression. One-third of the caregivers reported a high caregiver strain or a high burden. Test scores for attention, executive functioning, language, and/or verbal memory were correlated with perceived global health status, cognitive functioning, and/or communication deficits. Caregiver burden was not related to cognitive deficits. CONCLUSIONS In long-term HGG survivors maintained HRQoL seems possible even when cognition is impaired in a large variety at the individual level. A tailored approach is therefore recommended to investigate the cognitive impairments and HRQoL in patients and the need for patient and caregiver support.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE It has been theorized that pediatric brain tumor survivors may have reduced insight into their executive functioning. Agreement between informants and survivors has been used to probe this theory, but findings have been inconsistent. This study sought to expand on prior work by examining the relationship between participant role and ratings on the Frontal Systems Behavior Scale (FrSBe) among 73 adult survivors and their informants. This study also sought to test whether agreement on scores varied as a function of tumor treatment. METHOD Dyadic mixed effects models examined the relationship between participant ratings on FrSBe subscales and the role of a participant (survivor or informant). Intraclass correlations (ICC) were used to calculate reliable change indices to evaluate significant divergence in self and informant agreement. RESULTS Dyadic mixed effects models showed an insignificant relationship between participant role and ratings on the FrSBe apathy and executive dysfunction subscales. Participant role was related to ratings on the disinhibition subscale of the FrSBe. The ICC for apathy was ICC = .583, for disinhibition ICC = .420, and for executive dysfunction ICC = .373. Significant divergence in scores did not vary by history of chemoradiation. CONCLUSIONS Results demonstrate an effect of role on one FrSBe subscale and weak to moderate agreement between survivor and informant scores, which suggests that agreement between informants and survivors varies by FrSBe domain. The strongest relationship between survivors and informants was seen on apathy, which suggests that apathy is a shared concern for survivors and their families.

Abstract
The present study focused on adult primary brain tumor (PBT) survivors' caregivers. The main objective was to study associations between PBT survivors' health-related quality of life (HRQOL), their behavioral executive functions (EF) and their caregivers' HRQOL. Forty PBT survivors of PBT and 37 caregivers (mostly patient's spouses 81.08%; n = 30) participated in the study. PBT survivors completed a cancer related Quality of Life (QOL) questionnaire. Caregivers completed informant rated HRQOL and behavioral EF reports relating to PBT survivors and a self-rated HRQOL questionnaire relating to themselves. Correlational and multiple regression analyses were conducted. No associations were found between caregivers' physical HRQOL and PBT survivors' HRQOL nor behavioral EF. Analyses yielded several significant correlations between caregivers' mental HRQOL and variables pertaining to PBT survivors' HRQOL and behavioral EF. Multiple regression analyses showed that caregivers' mental HRQOL is predicted by PBT survivors' mental HRQOL, global cancer-related QOL scores and global behavioral EF scores. This study provides evidence suggesting that during the survivorship phase, at an average of 3.67 (SD = 2.31) years following treatment for a PBT, caregivers mental HRQOL is linked to PBT survivors' long-term effects. These findings shed some light regarding post-cancer care for both PBT survivors and their caregivers.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate fatigue and cognitive functioning in patients with low-grade glioma and to assess whether cognitive functioning and employment status differ between patients with severe and non-severe mental fatigue. METHODS Cross-sectional study. Fatigue was measured with the multidimensional fatigue inventory, objective cognitive functioning with a neuropsychological test battery, and mood with the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. RESULTS Thirty-one patients, mean age 44 ± 11, mean time post-diagnosis 2.5 ± 1.4 years, participated. Severe mental fatigue was present in 55% and depression in 36% of the patients. Attention deficits were observed in 75% (Stroop's test), memory deficits in 36% (Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test), and executive functioning deficits in 42% (Stroop's test). Severe mental fatigue patients demonstrated significantly worse scores on Stroop's test-Card-II (p = 0.043), Trail Making Test-B (p = 0.014), Trail Making Test-B/A (p = 0.014), and Digit-Span (p = 0.046), compared to non-severe mental fatigue patients. Severe mental fatigue patients worked significantly less hours per week (p = 0.013) and had more changes in their employment status (p = 0.009) after diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS Patients with low grade glioma show high rates of fatigue, especially in the mental domain, which might be associated with deficits in cognitive functioning and changes in employment status.Implications for rehabilitationThe majority of patients with low grade glioma suffers from severe mental fatigue and has deficits in cognitive functioning, which may affect employment status.Patients with low grade glioma should be screened for fatigue with the multidimensional fatigue inventory, to differentiate between mental and physical fatigue.Patients with low grade glioma with severe mental fatigue should be screened for problems in cognitive functioning with an objective neuropsychological test battery.Cognitive and vocational rehabilitation programs should aim at coping with severe mental fatigue and attention deficits in patients with low grade glioma.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore how persons having received various treatments for glioma, a type of brain tumour, experience their language, speech, and communication in everyday life. Twelve persons with low-grade glioma and one with high-grade glioma who had undergone tumour resection in 2014-2016 in different tumour locations were interviewed using a semi-structured protocol. The video-recorded interviews were transcribed and analysed using qualitative content analysis, which revealed three manifest categories, nine sub-categories and one latent theme. Participants experienced changed communication that affected word finding, motor speech and comprehension. They also expressed how communication required a greater effort; time and context were important factors and participants felt frustrated with their communication. Further, they were dealing with changes and used multiple strategies to manage communication. For most participants it did not affect their everyday life, but it was not like before. In addition, participants adapted their way of living to manage illness-related problems. Uncertainty was a latent theme which emanated from the participants' illness experience, reflecting how living with a slow-growing brain tumour affects life-decisions and views of perceived symptoms. Discussion of how results can be interpreted in relation to previous research and health care are included.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Few studies have considered health-related quality of life (HRQOL) as a primary outcome measure in adult survivors of primary brain tumor (PBT), and fewer still have studied the cognitive factors that may influence it. Research suggests that executive functions (EFs) are associated with HRQOL, but there is scant evidence to support this. The present study was conducted to (1) extend prior findings about HRQOL limitations in a sample of stable, long-term adult survivors of PBT, (2) investigate the associations between objective/reported EFs and HRQOL, and (3) identify the EFs that contribute most to HRQOL. METHOD We recruited 40 survivors of PBT (> 2 years post-treatment) and 40 matched healthy controls. Participants completed an objective EF assessment (inhibition, working memory, shifting, and rule detection) and two self-report questionnaires probing EFs (Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult) and HRQOL (Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form 36). Participants' relatives completed observer-rated versions of these questionnaires. RESULTS Patients' objective EF performances were relatively intact. However, patients and caregivers reported significantly more problems than healthy controls and their relatives, for both EFs and HRQOL. There were only negligible links between objective EFs and HRQOL, whereas numerous associations were found between reported EFs and HRQOL components. ANCOVA models revealed that specific reported EF processes contributed to both the physical and mental components of HRQOL, regardless of group. CONCLUSIONS From a clinical point of view, this study demonstrates that even several years after end of treatment, adult PBT survivors experience substantial problems across different HRQOL domains. HRQOL assessment should therefore be part of the long-term follow-up of PBT survivors, and clinicians should consider EF limitations when designing appropriate survivorship care plans. These findings indicate that cognitive interventions targeting EFs could improve HRQOL.

Abstract
Though the assessment of cognitive functions is proven to be a reliable prognostic indicator in patients with brain tumors, some of these functions, such as cognitive control, are still rarely investigated. The objective of this study was to examine proactive and reactive control functions in patients with focal brain tumors and to identify lesioned brain areas more at "risk" for developing impairment of these functions. To this end, a group of twenty-two patients, candidate to surgery, were tested with an AX-CPT task and a Stroop task, along with a clinical neuropsychological assessment, and their performance was compared to that of a well-matched healthy control group. Although overall accuracy and response times were similar for patients and control groups, the patient group failed more on the BX trials of the AX-CPT task and the incongruent trials of the Stroop task, specifically. Behavioral results were associated with the damaged brain areas, mostly distributed in right frontal regions, by means of a lesion-symptom mapping multivariate approach. This analysis showed that a white matter cluster in the right prefrontal area was associated with lower d'-context values on the AX-CPT, which reflect the fact that these patients rely more on later information (reactive processes) to respond to unexpected and conflicting stimuli, than on earlier contextual cues (proactive processes). Taken together, these results suggest that patients with brain tumors present an unbalance between proactive and reactive control strategies in more interfering conditions, in association with right prefrontal white matter lesions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We assessed agreement between patient- and informant-report on the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function - Adult (BRIEF-A) in patients with primary brain tumors (PBT) and differences on BRIEF-A in neurocognitive (intact v. impaired), psychological (asymptomatic v. distressed), and functional (independent v. dependent) categories using both patient- and informant-report. METHOD PBT patients (n = 102) completed neuropsychological evaluations including the BRIEF-A, clinical interview, neurocognitive tests, and mood questionnaires. Correlations between the BRIEF-A and Informant (n = 39) were conducted. Differences in patient and informant BRIEF-A indices were investigated across five classifications: neurocognitive functioning, psychological functioning, medication management, appointment management, and finance management. RESULTS Patient and informant BRIEF were correlated. There was no difference on BRIEF-A or Informant indices for intact v. impaired neurocognitive status. Higher BRIEF-A and Informant indices were observed among psychologically distressed v. asymptomatic patients. Results showed higher BRIEF indices among those requiring assistance with medication, appointments, and finances. CONCLUSIONS Patients and informants agreed in their reports of executive function (EF). These reports, while not different in neurocognitive classification, were different in psychological functioning and in those needing assistance with instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Patient- and informant-reported EF may provide important data regarding psychological and IADL functioning in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND CogMed Working Memory Training (CWMT) is a computer-based program shown to improve working memory (WM) among those with cognitive impairments. No study to date has investigated its feasibility, acceptability, and satisfaction in adult patients with glioma, despite the well-documented incidence of WM impairment in this population. METHODS Twenty patients with glioma and objective and/or perceived WM deficits enrolled in the study: 52% high-grade, 60% female, Mage = 47 (range = 21-72 years). Adverse events were monitored to determine safety. Feasibility and acceptability were assessed based on established metrics. Satisfaction was explored by exit-interviews. Neurocognitive tests and psychological symptoms were analyzed at baseline and post-CWMT to estimate effect sizes. RESULTS Of 20 enrolled patients, 16 completed the intervention (80% retention rate). Reasons for withdrawal included time burden (n = 2); tumor-related fatigue (n = 1) or loss to follow-up (n = 1). No adverse events were determined to be study-related. Adherence was 69% with reasons for nonadherence similar to those for study withdrawal. The perceived degree of benefit was only moderate. Baseline to post-CWMT assessments showed medium to large effects on neurocognitive tasks. Psychological symptoms remained stable throughout the study period. CONCLUSIONS CWMT was found to be safe and acceptable in adult patients with glioma. Enrollment, retention rates, and treatment adherence were all adequate and comparable to studies recruiting similar populations. Only moderate perceived benefit was reported despite demonstrated improvements in objectively-assessed WM. This may indicate that the time commitment and intervention intensity (5 weeks of 50-min training sessions on 5 days/week) outweighed the perceived benefits of the program. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present study seeks to provide an overview of executive (inhibition and flexibility) deficits in Parkinson's disease (PD) by combining a cognitive and behavioral approach. METHODS Fifteen PD patients and 15 healthy controls underwent a neuropsychological and behavioral assessment including the Hayling and Trails Tests, the Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in Parkinson's Disease (QUIP-RS), the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF-A), and the Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36). The level of awareness of executive functioning was also analyzed. We finally explored how these neuropsychological and clinical outcomes could relate to each other. RESULTS PD patients performed significantly worse in both neuropsychological tasks designed to evaluate inhibition abilities. They also reported more inhibition difficulties in everyday life and poorer quality of life. Associations between neuropsychological measures and self-reports were found. Moreover, as indicated by the discrepancy score, PD patients were as accurate as their relatives in self-reporting their executive daily difficulties. CONCLUSION Inhibition and cognitive flexibility impairments assessed by the neuropsychological tests (Hayling and Trails tests) seem to capture daily life executive problems in PD. Furthermore, our study provides a deeper understanding of PD patients' and their relatives' experience of these executive dysfunctions.

Abstract
PURPOSE The main objective of this study was to provide further information concerning the validity of patient-reported executive function (EF) in survivors of primary brain tumor (PBT) compared with a report provided by each patient's caregiver. METHODS Forty survivors of PBT, 40 non-cancer controls and their proxies completed an assessment of functional executive disorders (e.g., planning, inhibition, shifting, action initiation). Comparisons of self and informant EF reports were examined, for both patients and non-cancer controls. The extent of the concordance between patients' reports and their caregivers' reports was also determined. RESULTS PBT survivors and their caregivers reported more problems related to EF in contrast with the non-cancer comparison group (significant differences). There was a high level of agreement between patients' and caregivers' ratings within the patient group. CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence suggesting that at an average of 3.67 (SD = 2.31) years following treatment for a PBT, EF difficulties are reported by patients and their caregivers. This study establishes a consistency between what is reported by survivors and what is reported by those who frequently interact with them. Further research investigating the link between these ratings and quality of life as well as other functions is encouraged. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS This study's results demonstrate the importance of listening to PBT survivors' perception of EF difficulties. While not confirmed by neuropsychological evaluations, the functional executive challenges reported by these survivors' close relatives reflect what PBT survivors themselves report. Specialists should pay close attention to these difficulties to guarantee optimal post-cancer care.
