Abstract
Open hollow dodecahedral cage clusters have long been a coveted target in synthetic chemistry, yet their creation poses immense challenges. Here we report two open hollow dodecahedral lanthanide-aluminum (Ln-Al) heterometallic cage clusters, namely, [Ln210Al140(μ2-OH)210(μ3-OH)540(OAc)180(H2O)156](ClO4)120·(MeCN)x·(H2O)y, (Ln = Dy and x = 27, y = 300 for 1; Ln = Y and x = 28, y = 420 for 2). Remarkably, the 350 metal atoms in 1 and 2 display a Keplerate-type four-shell structure of truncated icosidodecahedron@dodecahedron@dodecahedron@icosidodecahedron. The diameter of the cationic cluster in 1 is approximately 5.0 nm, with an inner cavity diameter of about 2.8 nm and a window diameter of roughly 0.66 nm. The cluster in 1 boasts an accessible inner void volume of up to 15,000 Å3. Notably, these cage clusters maintain stability in water, and the truncated icosidodecahedrons in 1 and 2 are the first of their kind synthesized to date. Given that the open hollow dodecahedral Ln-Al cage cluster has never been reported before, this work represents a member in the family of hollow open dodecahedral cages.

Abstract
Highly connected molecular building blocks (MBBs) have been demonstrated to play a crucial role in reticular chemistry, particularly in predicting the topologies of metal-organic frameworks. Metal phosphonate clusters exhibit considerable advantages in constructing high-connectivity MBBs, owing to the multiple coordination modes offered by phosphonic ligands. Herein, four metal (M = CoII, MnII) phosphonocarboxylate frameworks (CoPCF-1,2 and MnPCF-1,2) were successfully prepared under solvothermal conditions by utilizing the phosphonocarboxylic ligand, 4'-phosphonobiphenyl-3,5-dicarboxylic acid (H4pbpdc), and their structural characterization was performed using single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). The structures feature a duodenary nuclear M12(µ3-OH)2(CO2)12(PO3)6(DMF)6/(CH3COO)4.5 cluster, bearing resemblance to the well-known Wells-Dawson ion from polyoxometallate chemistry. It is the first time a Wells-Dawson type cage has served as an 18-connected molecular building block, forming two kinds of porous metal phosphonocarboxylate frameworks with novel (3,18)-connected gez and gea topologies. Their permanent porosities were confirmed through N2 adsorption studies. Notably, the MBB Co12 cluster-based CoPCF-1 shows a loss and recovery process of µ3-OH through single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation. The magnetic properties of the four compounds exhibit antiferromagnetic behavior.

Abstract
Mimicking the photosynthesis of green plants to combine water oxidation with CO2 reduction is of great significance for solving energy and environmental crises. In this context, a trinuclear nickel complex, [NiII3(paoH)6(PhPO3)2]·2ClO4 (1), with a novel structure has been constructed with PhPO32- (phenylphosphonate) and paoH (2-pyridine formaldehyde oxime) ligands and possesses a reflection symmetry with a mirror plane revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Bulk electrocatalysis demonstrates that complex 1 can homogeneously catalyze water oxidation and CO2 reduction simultaneously. It can catalyze water oxidation at a near-neutral condition of pH = 7.45 with a high TOF of 12.2 s-1, and the Faraday efficiency is as high as 95%. Meanwhile, it also exhibits high electrocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction towards CO with a TOF of 7.84 s-1 in DMF solution. The excellent electrocatalytic performance of the water oxidation and CO2 reduction of complex 1 could be attributed to the two unique µ3-PhPO32- bridges as the crucial factor for stabilizing the trinuclear molecule as well as the proton transformation during the catalytic process, while the oxime groups modulate the electronic structure of the metal centers via π back-bonding. Therefore, apart from the cooperation effect of the three Ni centers for catalysis, simultaneously, the two kinds of ligands in complex 1 can also synergistically coordinate the central metal, thereby significantly promoting its catalytic performance. Complex 1 represents the first nickel molecular electrocatalyst for both water oxidation and CO2 reduction. The findings in this work open an avenue for designing efficient molecular electrocatalysts with peculiar ligands.

Abstract
Hybrid photochromic materials (HPMs) with specific photoresponsive functionality have applications in many fields. The photoinduced electron-transfer (ET) strategy has been proved to be effective in the synthesis of HPMs with diverse photomodulated properties. The exploitation of new electron acceptors (EAs) is meaningful for promoting the development of HPMs. In this work, we introduced a rigid tetraimidazole derivative, 3,3,5,5-tetra(imidazol-1-yl)-1,1-biphenyl (TIBP) as a potential EA, into a metal-diphosphonate (1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, H4-HEDP) system to explore HPMs and finally obtained a hybrid metal phosphonate (H4-TIBP)0.5·[Dy(H-HEDP) (H2-HEDP)]·H2O (1). 1 features anionic chains composed of diphosphonate and Dy3+ ions. The extra charge is balanced by protonated TIBP cations, which exist in the void of adjacent chains and form H-bonds with Ophosphonate (N-H···O). Upon photostimulation with a Xe lamp (300 W), the crystalline sample 1 exhibited coloration by changing from colorless to pale yellow because of the presence of photoinduced radicals that originated from the ET from Ophosphonate to NTIBP. Along with the coloration, photomodulated fluorescence, magnetism, and proton conductivity were also detected in the photoactivated samples. Different from the reported HPMs based on polypyridine derivatives and photoactive species such as pyridinium and naphthalimide derivatives as EAs, our study provides a new category of EA units to yield HPMs with fascinating photoresponsive functionality via the assembly of polyimidazole derivatives and phosphonate-based supramolecular building blocks.

Abstract
The discovered giant clusters are always highly symmetric owing to the spontaneous assembly of one or two basic units. Herein we report the Gd44 Co28 crown and Gd95 Co60 cage, formulated as [Gd44 Co28 (IDA)20 (OH)72 (CO3 )12 (OAc)28 (H2 O)64 ]⋅(ClO4 )24 and [Na4 Gd95 Co60 (IDA)40 (OH)150 (CO3 )40 (OAc)58 (H2 O)164 ] ⋅ (ClO4 )41 (H2 IDA=iminodiacetic acid), respectively, by providing a library containing multiple low-nuclearity units. The heart-like units and crown-like tetramer found in both compounds indicate unprecedented assembly levels, leading to an atypical geometry characteristic compared to the giant clusters directly assembled by regular units. These two clusters not only significantly increase the size of Ln-Co clusters but also exhibit the enhanced magnetic entropy change at ultra-low temperatures. This work provided an effective way to fabricate cluster compounds with giant size and geometry complexity simultaneously.

Abstract
The exploration and development of coordination nanocages can provide an approach to control chemical reactions beyond the bounds of the flask, which has aroused great interest due to their significant applications in the field of molecular recognition, supramolecular catalysis, and molecular self-assembly. Herein, we take the advantage of a semirigid and nonsymmetric bridging ligand (H5L) with rich metal-chelating sites to construct an unusual and discrete 3d-4f metallacage, [Zn2Er4(H2L)4(NO3)Cl2(H2O)]·NO3·xCH3OH·yH2O (Zn2Er4). The 3d-4f Zn2Er4 cage possesses a quadruple-stranded structure, and all of the ligands wrap around an open spherical cavity within the core. The self-assembly of the unique cage not only ensures the structural stability of the Zn2Er4 cage as a nanoreactor in solution but also makes the bimetallic lanthanide cluster units active sites that are exposed in the medium-sized cavity. It is important to note that the Zn2Er4 cage as a homogeneous catalyst has been successfully applied to catalyze three-component aza-Darzens reactions of formaldehyde, anilines, and α-diazo esters without another additive under mild conditions, displaying better catalytic activity, higher specificity, short reaction time, and low catalyst loadings. A possible mechanism for this three-component aza-Darzens reaction catalyzed by the Zn2Er4 cage has been proposed. These experimental results have demonstrated the great potential of the discrete 3d-4f metallacage as a host nanoreactor for the development of supramolecular or molecular catalysis.

Abstract
A hexanuclear heterometallic cluster of composition [Dy2 Co4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 (C2 H5 OH)2 ] ⋅ 2 C2 H5 OH (1) was synthesized by employing a Schiff base 2-(((2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl) imino)methyl)-4-methoxyphenol (H2 L) as ligand and utilizing Dy(NO3 )3 ⋅ 6H2 O and Co(NO3 )2 ⋅ 6H2 O as metal ion sources. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis indicated that complex 1 contains a defect tetracubane core and possesses central symmetric structure, with two DyIII ions being in the central body position of the molecule and four CoII ions being arranged at the outer sites. Magnetic studies reveal that complex 1 behaves as single-molecule magnet (SMM) with energy barrier of 27.50 K. To investigate the individual contribution of DyIII and CoII ions to the SMM behavior, another two complexes of formulae [Dy2 Zn4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 ] ⋅ 4CH3 OH (2) and [Y2 Co4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 (C2 H5 OH)2 ] ⋅ 2 C2 H5 OH (3) were prepared. Complexes 1 and 3 are isomorphous. The coordination geometries of DyIII ions in 1 and 2 are different. The DyIII ions are eight-coordinated in 2 and nine-coordinated in 1. Complex 2 exhibits SMM behavior with energy barrier of 69.67 K, but complex 3 does not display SMM property. These results reveal that the SMM behaviors of 1 and 2 are mainly originated from DyIII ions. It might be the higher symmetry of DyIII ions in 2 that results in the higher energy barrier.

Abstract
We report a new class of four dimeric Co(II) complexes [Co2(bbpen)(X)2] (H2bbpen = N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N,N'-bis(2-methylpyridyl)ethylenediamine) [X- = SCN (1), Cl (2), Br (3), and I (4)] with different coordination geometry of two Co(II) centers (trigonal-prismatic and pseudo-tetrahedral) and their magnetic study. Interestingly, the two Co(II) centers show two different types of magnetic anisotropy. State of the art ab initio CASSCF analysis reveals that the six-coordinate or the trigonal-prismatic Co(II) center possesses a consistently large negative axial zero-field splitting (negative D) parameter (∼-60 cm-1), while the four-coordinate or the pseudo-tetrahedral Co(II) center exhibits a range of D values from +13 to -23 cm-1. Ab initio calculations employing the lines model were used to estimate the magnetic exchange as both the Co(II) centers possess significant magnetic anisotropy. All the complexes display rare ferromagnetic interaction, and the strength of this interaction decreases as the ligand field on the pseudo-tetrahedral Co(II) center decreases from SCN- > Cl- > Br- > I-.

Abstract
The importance of equatorial crystal fields on magnetic anisotropy of ytterbium single molecule magnets (SMMs) is observed for the first time. Herein, we report three similar dinuclear ytterbium complexes with the formula [Yb2 (3-OMe-L)2 (DMF)2 (NO3 )2 ]⋅DMF (1), [Yb2 (3-H-L)2 (DMF)2 (NO3 )2 ]⋅DMF⋅H2 O (2), and [Yb2 (3-NO3 -L)2 (DMF)2 (NO3 )2 ] (3), [where 3-X-H2 L=N'-(2-hydroxy-3-X-benzylidene)picolinohydrazide, X=OMe (1), H (2) NO2 (3)]. Detailed magnetic measurements reveal the presence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Yb centers and a field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization in all complexes. A higher energy barrier for spin reversal was observed for complex 1 (Ueff =50 K) and it decreases in the order of 2 (47 K) to 3 (40 K). Notably, complex 1 shows a remarkable energy barrier within the frequency range of 1-850 Hz reported for Yb-based SMMs. Further, ab initio calculations show a higher axial anisotropy and lower quantum tunneling of magnetization (QTM) in the ground state for 1 compared to 2 and 3. It was also observed that the presence of a strong crystal field in the equatorial plane (when the ∡ O1-Yb-O3 bond angle is close to 90°) enhances the axial anisotropy and improves the SMM behavior in the studied complexes. Both the experimental and theoretical analysis of relaxation dynamics discloses that Raman and QTM play major role on slow relaxation process for all complexes. To provide more insight into the exchange interactions, broken-symmetry DFT calculations were performed.

Abstract
In this work, we report a new octanuclear cluster based on FeIII and the ligand 1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid, [Et3NH]12[Fe8(IDC)12]·10DMF·13H2O (1), with a metal core containing eight FeIII connected by only one type of organic ligand. A peak at 573 m/z in the mass spectra of the compound suggests the adduct species {[Fe8(IDC)12]+8H}4-. By X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the oxidation state of the iron cation was confirmed to be 3+, also identifying the presence of a quaternary nitrogen species, which act as a countercation of the anionic metal core [Fe8(IDC)12]12-. Mössbauer spectra recorded at different temperatures show an isomer shift and quadrupole splitting parameters that confirm the existence of only FeIII-HS in the structure of 1. X-ray analysis reveals that compound 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system space group Ibam, confirming a molecular cluster structure with an almost regular cube as geometry, with the FeIII atoms located at the corners of the cube and connected by μ-1κ2 N,O:2κ2 N',O‴-IDC3- bridges. Additionally, the magnetic measurements reveal a weak antiferromagnetic coupling in the Fe8 III coordination cluster (J = -3.8 cm-1). To the best of our knowledge, 1 is the first member of the family of cubes assembled with 1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid and FeIII cation, exhibiting high pH stability over a broad pH range, making it an ideal candidate for the design of supramolecular structures and metal-organic frameworks.

Abstract
Proton conductive materials have attracted extensive interest in recent years due to their fascinating applications in sensors, batteries, and proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Herein, two Fe-diphosphonate chains (H4-BAPEN)0.5·[FeIII(H-HEDP)(HEDP)0.5(H2O)] (1) and (H4-TETA)2·[FeIII2FeII(H-HEDP)2(HEDP)2(OH)2]·2H2O (2) (HEDP = 1-hydroxyethylidenediphosphonate, BAPEN = 1,2-bis(3-aminopropylamino)ethane, and TETA = triethylenetetramine) with different templating agents were prepared by hydrothermal reactions. The valence states of the Fe centers were demonstrated by 57Fe Mössbauer spectra at 100 K, with a high-spin FeIII state for 1 and mixed high-spin FeIII/FeII states for 2. Their magnetic properties were determined, which featured strong antiferromagnetic couplings in the chain. Importantly, the proton conductivity of both compounds at 100% relative humidity was explored at different temperatures, with 2.79 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 80 °C for 1 and 7.55 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 45 °C for 2, respectively. This work provides an opportunity for improving proton conductive properties by increasing the relative number of protons and the carrier density using protonated flexible aliphatic amines.

Abstract
Photoactive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent one of the most promising materials for photocatalytic hydrogen production, but phosphonate-based MOFs have remained largely underdeveloped compared to other conventional MOFs. Herein, a photocatalyst of 1D titanium phosphonate MOF is designed through an easy and scalable stirring hydrothermal method. Homogeneous incorporation of organophosphonic linkers can narrow the bandgap, which is due to the strong electron-donating ability of the OH functional group that can efficiently shift the top of the valence band, moving the light absorption to the visible portion of the spectrum. In addition, the unique 1D nanowire topology enhances the photoinduced charge carrier transport and separation. Accordingly, the titanium phosphonate nanowires deliver remarkably enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity under irradiation of both visible light and a full-spectrum simulator. Such concepts of engineering both nanostructures and electronic states herald a new paradigm for designing MOF-based photocatalysts.

Abstract
We have synthesized and structurally characterized a new mixed valence pentanuclear Co complex, bearing a rare μ4-O-tetrahedral CoII4 unit, by employing a pyridine-like Schiff base ligand. We have performed DC magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements over polycrystalline samples and chemical quantum computations in order to understand the exchange interaction pattern within Co(ii) sites and ground state magnetic anisotropy. This new complex shows an overall antiferromagnetic exchange interaction whose strength strongly depends on the local symmetry of Co(ii) sites. Also, local ion magnetic anisotropy reveals a strongly axial behaviour with the lowest Kramers doublet (KD) at each Co(ii) ion sufficiently isolated from excited states at low temperatures. Two Co(ii) sites show tetrahedral symmetry and the spin only formalism including axial zero-field splitting (ZFS) term properly described them; on the other hand, the other two Co(ii) sites have distorted octahedral and square base pyramidal coordination spheres, and a strong orbital contribution leads to a failure of the spin only formalism. A model of four Seff = 1/2 exchange interacting sites is necessary in order to account for low temperature magnetization behaviour. In view of the strongly anisotropic KD states, the exchange interactions are forced to be modelled as anisotropic ones. Overall, experimental data and quantum chemical computations are in good agreement, supporting the proposed model for magnetic behaviour.

Abstract
Highly symmetric enneanuclear copper(ii) phosphates [Cu9(Pz)6(μ-OH)3(μ3-OH)(ArOPO3)4(DMF)3] (PzH = pyrazole, Ar = 2,6-(CHPh2)2-4-R-C6H2; R = Me, 2MeAr; Et, 2EtAr; iPr, 2iPrAr; and Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3, 2Dip) comprising nine copper(ii) centers and pyrazole, hydroxide and DMF as ancillary ligands were synthesized by a reaction involving the arylphosphate monoester, 1, copper(i)chloride, pyrazole, and triethylamine in a 4 : 9 : 6 : 14 ratio. All four complexes were characterized by single crystal structural analysis. The complexes contain two distinct structural motifs within the multinuclear copper scaffold: a hexanuclear unit and a trinuclear unit. In the latter, the three Cu(ii) centres are bridged by a μ3-OH. Each pair of Cu(ii) centers in the trinuclear unit are bridged by a pyrazole ligand. The hexanuclear unit is made up of three dinuclear Cu(ii) motifs where the two Cu(ii) centres are bridged by an -OH and a pyrazole ligand. The three dinuclear units are connected to each other by phosphate ligands. The latter also aid the fusion of the trinuclear and the hexanuclear motifs. Magnetic studies reveal a strong antiferromagnetic exchange between the Cu(ii) centres of the dinuclear units in the hexanuclear part and a strong spin frustration in the trinuclear part leading to a degenerate ground state.

Abstract
We report a class of pKa-directed, precise incorporation of phosphonate ligands into a zirconium-based metal-organic framework (Zr-MOF), MOF-808, via ligand exchange. By replacing of formate ligands with methylphosphonic acid (MPA), ethanephosphonic acid (EPA), and vinylphosphonic acid (VPA), whose pKa values are slightly higher than that of the benzenetricarboxylic acid (BTC) linker in MOF-808, daughter MOFs can be synthesized without controlling the stoichiometric amounts of added MPA. The methylphosphonate MOFs (808-MPAs) demonstrate high porosities, with only small changes in the pore diameter and specific surface area when compared with the parent MOF-808. PXRD patterns and structure refinements indicate the expansion of the lattice for all MOFs after decorating with methylphosphonate ligands. The XPS spectra reveal a charge redistribution of the Zr6 node after ligand exchange. FTIR and 31P MAS NMR spectra, combined with DFT calculation, suggest that the methylphosphonate ligand is connected to the Zr6 node as CH3P(O)(OZr)(OH) species with an accessible acidic P-OH group. Besides, 808-MPAs demonstrate excellent chemical stability in concentrated HCl, concentrated HNO3, hot water, and 0.2 mol/L trifluoroacetic acid solutions. Impressively, 808-MPAs show ultrafast adsorption performance for uranyl ions using the ion-exchange property of P-OH sites in their cavity environment, with an equilibrium time of 10 min, much quicker than the previous adsorbents. The present study demonstrates a series of important proof-of-concept examples of the pKa-directed Zr-MOFs with tunable phosphonate-terminated ligands, which can extend to other phosphonate-functionalized Zr-based framework platforms in the near future.

Abstract
The reaction of LnCl3·6H2O with a multidentate flexible Schiff base ligand (LH4), H2O3PtBu and trifluoroacetic acid (tfaH) afforded a series of homometallic tetranuclear complexes, [Ln4(LH2)2(O3PtBu)2(μ2-η1η1tfa)2][2Cl] (Ln = DyIII (1), TbIII (2) and GdIII (3)). The tetranuclear lanthanide core contains two structurally different lanthanide centres, one being in a distorted trigonal dodecahedron geometry and the other in a distorted trigonal prism. Complexes 1-3 were investigated via direct and alternating current (DC and AC) magnetic susceptibility measurements. Only 1 revealed a weak single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour. Alternating current (ac) magnetic susceptibility measurements on 1 reveal a frequency-dependent out-of-phase signal. However, the absence of distinct maxima in the χ'' peak (within the temperature/frequency range of our experiments) prevented deduction of the experimental energy barrier for magnetization reversal (Ueff) and the relaxation time. We have carried out extensive ab initio (CASSCF + RASSI-SO + SINGLE_ANISO + POLY_ANISO) calculations on complexes 1-2 to gain deeper insights into the nature of magnetic anisotropy. Our calculations yielded only one exchange coupling parameter between the two LnIII centres bridged by the ligand (neglecting the exchange between the LnIII centres that are not proximal wrt each other). All the extracted J values indicate a weakly antiferromagnetic coupling between the metal centres (J = -0.025 cm-1 for 1 and J = -0.015 cm-1 for 2). Calculated exchange coupled Ucal values of ∼5 and ∼1 cm-1 in 1 and 2 respectively nicely corroborated the experimental observations regarding weak and no SMM characteristics. Our calculations indicated the presence of a net single-molecule toroidal (SMT) behaviour in complex 2. On the other hand, fitting the magnetic data (susceptibility and magnetization) in the isotropic cluster 3 revealed weak AFM exchange couplings of J1 = 0.025 cm-1 and J2 = -0.020 cm-1 which are consistent with those for GdIII ions.

Abstract
Two new irregularity high-nuclearity clusters [Co26(TC4A)6(HL)4Cl4(HCOO)4(CH3O)2(OH)2(DMF)10(H2O)5] (+ solvent) (Co26) and [Ni28(TC4A)6(HL)6(PO4)2(μ3-O)2Cl2(CH3OH)14(H2O)2(DMF)8][(CH3NH2CH3)4] (+ solvent) (Ni28) have been solvothermally synthesized by p- tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene (H4TC4A), transition metals (CoCl2·6H2O/NiCl2·6H2O), and 1-hydroxy-2-(3-pyridinyl)ethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (H5L). The clusters were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, PXRD, TGA, and FT-IR spectrum and Raman spectrum. Co26 features a rodlike Co26 core constructed by six Co4-TC4A secondary building units (SBUs) and four HL4- with two extra cobalt ions. Ni28 cluster represents a flowerlike Ni28 core built from six Ni4-TC4A SBUs, six HL4-, and four additional nickel ions. The multidentate risedronic acid displaying various new coordination mode bonds with SBUs to assemble two nanoclusters that enable high density possible coordinatively unsaturated metal sites (PCUMSs). Co26 and Ni28 clusters can be directly dispersed on carbon paper (CP) and showed extraordinary oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity due to the larger exposed liable coordination active metal sites. The thermodecomposition of both nanoclusters at different temperatures afforded serial multicomponent complexes.

Abstract
A Cd(ii)-based coordination compound, [CdI2(4-nvp)2] (1), has been synthesized using CdI2 and monodentate N-donor ligand 4-(1-naphthylvinyl)pyridine (4-nvp). The solid-state supramolecular architecture has been characterized by X-ray crystallography. An acute thermal stability and excellent level of phase purity tempted us to use it for material applications. Interestingly, compound 1 exhibits a high selectivity towards trinitrophenol (TNP) in the presence of other nitroaromatics. Therefore, this material may be used for anti-terrorist activities in the detection of explosive materials as well as in the recognition of TNP in analytical laboratories. A Cd(ii)-based coordination compound, [CdI2(4-nvp)2] (1), has been synthesized using CdI2 and monodentate N-donor ligand 4-(1-naphthylvinyl)pyridine (4-nvp).![]()

Abstract
A high-nuclearity nanoscale Cd24 cluster has been hydrothermally synthesized by assembly of Cd4-TC4A (H4TC4A = p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene) second building units (SBUs) and in situ generated peroxy(mono)phosphate PO53- groups and peroxyphenoxide groups of TC4A. The cluster was structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffractions. Photocatalytic studies revealed that the highest nuclearity Cd,S-co-rich Cd24 cluster exhibits enhanced photocatalytic water splitting activities compared to the sandwich Cd4(TC4A)2 (Cd4) cluster under the same conditions in the absence of a co-catalyst. The nanostructure of Cd24 incorporated both peroxyphosphate and peroxyphenoxide groups, which increased the metal coordination numbers to give more labile Cd-O/S bonds and is believed to be the key feature that enables the significant photocatalytic water splitting activities.

Abstract
A new family of bi-, tetra-, penta-, and hexanickel cagelike phenylsilsesquioxanes 1-6 was obtained by self-assembly and transmetalation procedures. Their crystal structures were established by single-crystal X-ray analysis, and features of crystal packing relevant to the network formation were studied by a topological analysis. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 are isolated architectures, while 3, 5, and 6 present extended 1D and 3D networks. The investigation of magnetic properties revealed the presence of ferro- (1 and 3-5) or antiferromagnetic (2 and 6) interactions between Ni(II) ions, giving rise in the most cases (1, 2, and 4-6) to the presence of a slow relaxation of the magnetization, which can originate from the spin frustration.
