Abstract
Quinoline, as a refractory and toxic organic pollutant in coking wastewater, causes great harm to the environment and human health even in trace amount. To realize the selective and sensitive detection of quinoline in coking wastewater, a novel molecularly imprinted fluorescent nanopomegranate with carbon dots (CDs) as seeds and fluorescence source (CD-MIP) was prepared, using quinoline as the template, and N-(β-aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane (KH792) as the monomer. The preparation and detection conditions of CD-MIP were systematically optimized. The structure and detection performance of CD-MIP were investigated in detail. The resulting CD-MIP exhibits excellent photoluminescence performance, high detection sensitivity, good selectivity and reproducibility towards quinoline. Under the optimized conditions, the fluorescence intensity of CD-MIP shows a satisfying linearity with quinoline concentration in the range of 20-200 mg/L with a detection limit of 6.7 mg/L. Owing to the existence of imprinted cavities that highly match with quinoline, a high imprinting factor (3.46) for CD-MIP was obtained. In addition, CD-MIP represents a greater affinity towards quinoline than towards other analogues, as well as an outstanding anti-interference capability. For trace analysis in real coking wastewater, CD-MIP also gives satisfactory results. Therefore, CD-MIP shows promising application in the selective detection of trace quinoline in wastewater.

Abstract
In this work, an innovative nano-carbon material (N-CM) adsorbent was reported for exploring its adsorption behaviors toward cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic reactive blue 19 (RB19) pollutants. The proposed N-CM was synthesized by a one-step solvothermal treatment of citric acid and zinc gluconate small precursors. N-CM consists of nanosheets that have an advantageous specific surface area, large sp2/sp3 hybridized domains, and abundant nitrogen/oxygen-containing surface functional groups. The synergistic effects of these features are conducive to the MB and RB19 adsorption. Different from anionic RB19 adsorption (79.54 mg/g) by the cooperative π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding, cationic MB adsorbed onto N-CM mainly by the electrostatic attraction at the natural pH solution (> pHpzc), with an adsorption capacity up to 118.98 mg/g. Interestingly, both MB and RB19 adsorption conformed to the pseudo-second order kinetic (R2 ≥ 0.995) and Langmuir isothermal (R2 ≥ 0.990) models, accompanied by similar maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of 120.77 and 116.01 mg/g, respectively. Their adsorption processes exhibited spontaneously endothermic characteristics. Moreover, N-CM showed superior selective capability toward MB in different mixed dye systems, with high removal efficiencies of 73−89%. These results demonstrate that the high-performance carbon adsorbent prepared from small precursors via low-temperature carbonization shows great potentials in wastewater treatment.

Abstract
The present study encompasses the application of cost effective, organo-modified bentonite material for efficient desulfurization of model oil and real fuel. For the adsorptive desulfurization of oil, dibenzothiophene (DBT) was used as model compound. Various experimental parameters (time, temperature, adsorbent-amount and DBT concentration) were thoroughly investigated. The synthesized material was characterized via X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The modification exhibits the increase in interlayer spacing of clay as confirmed from XRD and modified material shows interesting morphology as compared to unmodified bentonite. The results showed that > 90% of DBT removal was achieved under optimized conditions for B-BTC, B-BTB and B-DSS and > 80% for B-BEHA, for model fuel oil which are greater than unmodified clay (< 45%). Additionally, the findings from desulfurization of real fuel oil declare that 96.76% and 95.83% removal efficiency was achieved for kerosene and diesel oil respectively, at optimized conditions and fuel properties follow ASTM specifications. The obtained findings well fitted with thermodynamic, isothermal (Langmuir) with adsorption capacity (70.8 (B-BTC), 66 (B-BTB), 61.2 (B-DSS) and 55.2 (B-BEHA) in mg/g) and pseudo-second-order kinetics. In thermodynamic studies, negative sign ([Formula: see text] specifies the spontaneity whereas, [Formula: see text] endothermic and positive sign [Formula: see text] show randomness after DBT adsorption onto organoclay.

Abstract
The oxidized ordered mesoporous carbons of cubic and hexagonal structure obtained by two templating methods (soft and hard) were applied for the first time as delivery systems for paracetamol—the most common antipyretic and analgesic drug in the world. The process of carbon oxidation was performed using an acidic ammonium persulfate solution at 60 °C for 6 h. The functionalization was found to reduce the specific surface area and pore volume of carbon materials, but it also led to an increasing number of acidic oxygen-containing functional groups. The most important element and the novelty of the presented study was the evaluation of adsorption and release ability of carbon carriers towards paracetamol. It was revealed that the sorption capacity and the drug release rate were mainly affected by the materials’ textural parameters and the total amount of surface functional groups, notably different in pristine and oxidized samples. The adsorption of paracetamol on the surface of ordered mesoporous carbons occurred according to different mechanisms: donor–acceptor complexes and hydrogen bond formation. The adsorption kinetics was assessed using pseudo-first- and pseudo-second-order models. The regression results indicated that the adsorption kinetics was more accurately represented by the pseudo-second-order model. Paracetamol was adsorbed onto the carbon materials studied following the Langmuir type isotherm. The presence of oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of ordered mesoporous carbons enhanced the amount of paracetamol adsorbed and its release rate. The optimal drug loading capacity and expected release pattern exhibited oxidized ordered mesoporous carbon with a hexagonal structure obtained by the hard template method.

Abstract
Adsorptive desulfurization is an effective technology for removing harmful sulfur under mild conditions. Carbon materials have many advantages and are often used in adsorption desulfurization research, but until now have been synthesized using complicated methods and have shown limited adsorption capacity. Using an NaHCO3-assisted leavening method, waste tires were in the current work used as raw materials to produce hierarchically porous carbon that exhibits a high specific surface area and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. In contrast to the sulfur removal by the carbon material prepared using a commonly used method, the as-prepared carbon material shows excellent adsorption performance, and was able to achieve an ultra-deep desulfurization of pentanethiol, specifically removing up to 99.7% of the sulfur from a model fuel with an initial sulfur concentration of 28 ppm. Therefore, we have provided a simple method for synthesizing adsorbents with high adsorption performance, and we expect these adsorbents to be used for industrial adsorptive desulfurization.
