Abstract
Diquat (DQ) is a typical bipyridine herbicide widely used to control weeds in fields and orchards. The severe toxicity of diquat poses a serious threat to the environment and human health. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received widespread attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties and applications in the detection of toxic and harmful substances. In this work, a two-dimensional (2D) Tb(III) functionalized MOF Tb(III)@1 (1 = [Cd(HTATB)(bimb)]n·H2O (Cd-MOF), H3TATB = 4,4',4″-triazine-2,4,6-tribenzoicacid, bimb = 1,4-bis((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene) has been prepared and characterized. Tb(III)@1 has excellent optical properties and high water and chemical stability. After the Tb(III) is fixed by the uncoordinated -COO- in the 1 framework, Tb(III)@1 emits the typical green fluorescence of the lanthanide ion Tb(III) through the "antenna effect". It is worth noting that Tb(III)@1 can be used as a dual emission fluorescence chemical sensor for the ratio fluorescence detection of pesticide DQ, exhibiting a relatively low detection limit of 0.06 nM and a wide detection range of 0-50 nM. After the addition of DQ, a rapid color change of Tb(III)@1 fluorescence from green to blue was observed due to the combined effects of IFE, FRET and dynamic quenching. Therefore, a simple test paper box has been designed for direct on-site determination of pesticide DQ. In addition, the developed sensor has been successfully applied to the detection of DQ in real samples (fruits a Yin-Xia Sun and Bo-Tao Ji contributed equally to this work and should be considered co-first authors.nd vegetables) with satisfactory results. The results indicate that the probe developed in this study has broad application prospects in both real sample detection and actual on-site testing.

Abstract
Bismuth(III)-based complexes have garnered increasing attention in fluorescence sensing due to their environmentally friendly and sustainable characteristics. A Bismuth(III) coordination polymer (CP),1-Cl based on a naphthalene diimides(NDI)-pyridinium is synthesized by an in situ reaction method. Notable for its sensitivity to visible light, 1-Cl shows excellent photochromic properties, and the integration of NDI and pyridinium in one ligand makes photogenerated radicals more stable. Structural analysis and theoretical calculations are employed to investigate the potential pathway of photoinduced electron transfer (ET) during the photochromic process. Notably, in aqueous solutions, 1-Cl displays an extraordinary fluorescence enhancement response to bromide ion (Br-), resulting in a distinct transition from yellow to orange in color. The potential mechanism of fluorescence sensing has been revealed through single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. This insight highlights a continuous substitution process where the Cl- ions are successively replaced by Br- ions. Consequently, a single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation (SCSC) occurs, yielding the intermediate species, 1-Cl-Br, which ultimately transforms into the final product, 1-Br. Finally, the photochromic film is successfully prepared and applied to practical applications such as ink-free printing, information anti-counterfeiting, and the visual detection of Br- ions. This work combines photochromism with fluorescence sensing, broadening the research field and practical application of photochromic materials.

Abstract
The constant demand for eco-friendly methods of synthesizing complex organic compounds inspired researchers to design and develop modern, highly efficient heterogeneous catalytic systems. Herein, In-HCPCP metal-organic framework (SRMIST-1), a heterogeneous Lewis acid catalyst containing less toxic indium and eco-friendly robust cyclotriphosphazene and exhibiting notable chemical and thermal stability, durable catalytic activity, and exceptional reusability was produced through the reaction between indium(III) nitrate hydrate and hexakis(4-carboxylatophenoxy)-cyclotriphosphazene. In the SRMIST-1 structure, secondary building units {InO7} are assembled by a connection of η2- and η1-carboxylic oxo atoms from different HCPCP ligands, forming a three-dimensional network. The occurrence of regularly distributed In(III) sites in SRMIST-1 confers superior reactivity on the catalyst toward the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones and 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxides by the cyclization reaction of 2-aminobenzamides and 2-aminobenzenesulphonamides with aldehydes under optimized reaction conditions, respectively. The notable features of this method include broad functional group compatibility, low catalyst loading (1-5 mol %), mild reaction conditions, easy workup procedures, good to excellent reaction yields, ethanol as a green solvent, reusability of the catalyst (five cycles), and economic attractiveness, which is mainly due to sustainability of SRMIST-1 as a reusable green catalyst. Our findings demonstrate that the highly reactive and reusable green catalyst finds widespread applications in medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Nitroaromatic compounds in aqueous undermine environmental sustainability and affect human health. The development of a fluorescent sensor capable of efficiently and selectively detecting trace amounts of nitroaromatic compounds presents a considerable challenge. This study introduced Zn/Cd isomeric coordination polymers (Zn-H2CIA-1/Cd-H2CIA-2), which are synthesized using 5-((4-carboxybenzyl)oxy)isophthalic acid (5-H3CIA) and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen). The polymers have zero-dimensional discrete crystal structure with a six-coordinated scissor-like shape. The two coordination polymers can be used as fluorescent sensors for detecting nitrobenzene (NB) and demonstrated favorable sensitivity, with detection limits of 1.95 × 10-8 and 4.66 × 10-7 mol/L, respectively. Zn-H2CIA-1 exhibited stronger fluorescence and a more sensitive response to NB compared with Cd-H2CIA-2. To elucidate their fluorescence-quenching mechanisms, we analyzed Zn-H2CIA-1 by performing DFT and TD-DFT calculations. The pore structure, density of states, excitation energy, hole-electron distribution, and orbital composition were analyzed. The suitable size of pores in Zn-H2CIA-1 is the main reason for its high NB selectivity. Moreover, intermolecular π-π stacking interactions result in an orbital overlap between Zn-H2CIA-1 and NB, enabling the transfer of electrons from Zn-H2CIA-1 to NB. This electron transfer is identified as the fundamental cause of fluorescence quenching in Zn-H2CIA-1.

Abstract
Owing to the large-scale consumption of pesticides and their potential threats to the environment and human health, the development of sensing materials for pesticides has attracted considerable attention in recent years. In this work, a novel Cd(II)-based coordination polymer (CP) with the formula [Cd(H2O)2(L)]·DMF (Cd-1, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, H2L = 4,4'-[(2,5-dimethoxy-1,4-phenylene)di-2,1-ethenediyl]bis-benzoic acid) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Structural analysis revealed that coordination between central Cd2+ cations and the ligand L2- formed two-dimensional (2D) networks, which were further assembled by noncovalent hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework. Through ultrasonic treatment in isopropyl alcohol, Cd-1 was exfoliated to afford an ultrathin CP-based 2D nanosheet (Cd-1-NS) with a thickness of less than 1.8 nm. Compared to the bulk materials, the prepared Cd-1-NS exhibited enhanced fluorescence emission properties and superior sensing performance toward glyphosate (Glyph) in water with high selectivity, sensitivity, anti-interference, fast response, and good recyclability via the turn-off effect. The limit of detection (LOD) of Cd-1-NS for Glyph was as low as 41 nM (7 ppb) in the low-concentration range of 0-2.4 μM. In addition, the Cd-1-NS also showed excellent practicability and reliability for the detection of Glyph in real samples, including lake water, tap water, cabbage, and watermelon skin, and could realize the rapid visualized sensing of Glyph residues on the surfaces of vegetables and fruits.

Abstract
MOF-based luminescent sensors have garnered considerable attention due to their potential in recognition and discrimination with high sensitivity, selectivity, and fast response in the last decades. Herein, this work describes the bulk preparation of a novel luminescent homochiral MOF, namely, [Cd(s-L)](NO3)2 (MOF-1), from an enantiopure pyridyl-functionalized ligand with rigid binaphthol skeleton under mild synthetic condition. Except for the features of porosity and crystallinity, the MOF-1 has also been characterized with water-stability, luminescence, and homochirality. Most important, the MOF-1 exhibits highly sensitive molecular recognition toward the4-nitrobenzoic acid (NBC) and moderate enantioselective detection of proline, arginine, and 1-phenylethanol.

Abstract
In this work, a novel composite material (HPU-24@Ru) has been prepared by combining a blue-emission Cd-based metal-organic framework (MOF, [Cd2(TCPE)(DMF)(H2O)3]n, HPU-24) with a red-emission tris (2,2'-bipyridine) dichlororuthenium(II) hexahydrate ([Ru(bpy)3]2+) molecule for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Al3+ ions in aqueous medium and high-level dynamic anticounterfeiting application. The luminescence measurement results indicated that the fluorescence intensity of HPU-24 at 446 nm showed a red shift in the presence of Al3+ ions, and the new peak appeared at 480 nm and continued to increase with an increase in Al3+ ion concentration. Meanwhile, the fluorescence intensity of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ almost showed no change. The detection limit was calculated as 11.63 μM, which was better than that for the MOF-based Al3+ ions in some reported examples in aqueous media and achieved through strong electrostatic interactions between HPU-24@Ru and Al3+ ions. Moreover, owing to the particularity of the tetrastyryl structure in HPU-24, HPU-24@Ru showed intriguing temperature-dependent emission behavior. This unique structure provides the composite material HPU-24@Ru with attributes for high-level information encryption that make it difficult for counterfeiters to identify all of the right decryption measures.

Abstract
The abuse of pesticides, antibiotics, organic solvents, etc., not only deteriorates the ecological environment, but even affects the normal development of organisms, posing a serious threat to global public health.Efficient and sensitive detection of pesticides, antibiotics, organic solvents and so on are very important, but also a challenge to scientists. By depositing Ag nanoparticles on the surface of Zn-MOF (1: {[Zn2(bta)(bpy)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n), a new type of composite material (Ag@1) was successfully synthesized and analyzed by TEM, EDS, XPS, XRD, IR and other characterization methods. Ag@1 can serve as multi-response fluorescence sensor to detect pesticides (fluazinam (FLU) and emamectin benzoate (EMB)), Tryptophan (Trp) and Ethylenediamine (EDA). In particular, Ag@1 showed "turn-off" fluorescence sensing for FLU and EDA, and "turn-on" fluorescence sensing for EMB and Trp. It is worth mentioning that we further explored its analysis of FLU and Trp in real water samples and fetal bovine serum. The recoveries are satisfactory, 97.95 % - 102.39 % and 96.69 % - 101.85 %, respectively. In addition, the photocatalytic performance of Ag@1 was found to be excellent, the degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) reached 86 %, and its degradation mechanism was discussed.

Abstract
3-Nitrotyrosine (3-NT), an oxidative stress biomarker, is closely associated with various diseases. Thus, rapid and sensitive detection of 3-NT is of great significance for preventing and treating diseases. Herein, we reported a new 3D zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-MOF) [Zn(L)(HBTC)] (L = (E)-4,4'-(ethene-1,2-diyl)bis[(N-pyridin-3-yl)benzamide], H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid), which was structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, PXRD and TG. The Zn-MOF can be used as a highly efficient fluorescence sensing material to provide a direct and low-cost method for the rapid detection of 3-NT and shows high sensitivity with a KSV value of 6.596 × 104 M-1, a rapid luminescence response within 24 s, excellent selectivity, high anti-interference ability and good recyclability. It is the first example of a MOF being used to directly detect 3-NT as a luminescence sensor to our knowledge. The sensing mechanism of the Zn-MOF towards 3-NT is discussed in detail, which provides a basis for the rational design of MOF sensing materials and their application in biomarker detection.

Abstract
The immoderate use of pesticides in the modern agricultural industry has led to the pollution of water resources and ultimately threatens the human body. Herein, two metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely {[Zn(tpt)2 ·2H2 O]}n (Zn1) and {[Zn2 (tpt)2 (bdc)]}n (Zn2), (Htpt = 5-[4(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)]phenyl-2H-tetrazole), respectively, are constructed as smart materials for visual and on-site detection of pesticides and their removal from water. The exposed nitrogen-rich sites and high chemical stability make Zn2 a self-assembly core to further fabricate MOF-on-MOF-sodium alginate (ZIF-8-on-Zn2@SA) composite by wrapping ZIF-8 on the outside surface. Inheriting the excellent fluorescent emission of Zn2, the rod-like ZIF-8-on-Zn2@SA module exhibits naked-eye detection of thiophanate-methyl (TM) in real fruits and vegetables with a broad linear range (10-100 × 10-6 m), a low limit of detection (LOD = 0.14 × 10-6 m), and satisfactory recoveries (98.30-102.70%). In addition, carbendazim (CBZ), the metabolite of TM after usage in crops, can be efficiently removed from water by the ZIF-8-on-Zn2@SA (qmax = 161.8 mg g-1 ) with a high correlation coefficient (R2 > 0.99). Therefore, the portable ZIF-8-on-Zn2@SA sensing platform presents a promising candidate for monitoring and removal of pesticides, especially suitable for regions with serious pesticide environmental pollution.

Abstract
Coordination polymers (CPs: [ZnL3]n(X)2n, L = trans-1,4-bis(imidazolyl)-2-butene; X− = BF4−, ClO4−, NO3−) allow for detection of the 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) oxidation process by enhanced electrochemical signals. Electrochemical measurement is a highly sensitive method providing much evidence of chemical reactions on an electrode surface. In the present study, we designed and synthesized, with reference to X-ray diffraction data and by spectroscopic analyses, new 3D coordination structures containing imidazolyl donors and zinc(ii). The presence of microcrystals [ZnL3]n(BF4)2n on the working electrode enhanced the redox signals. Therefore, we propose a simple catalytic process that can explain these results and clarify the influence of anions that constitute CP materials used to improve electrochemical detection applications. The CP materials were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric (TG) analyses, single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD), and electrochemical analyses. To investigate structural and anionic effects of coordination polymers (CPs) on electrochemical sensors, Zn-CPs were synthesized and used for 4-nitrophenol oxidation sensors.![]()

Abstract
While a plethora of organic linkers based on carboxylic acids have been utilized in the construction of MOFs, zwitterionic linkers that typify the attributes of naturally occurring amino acids have been exploited only scarcely to the best of our knowledge. Zwitterionic interior characteristics should be expected to impart unique properties to the resultant MOFs with a high potential to interact with guest species through electrostatic interactions. In our investigations with bis(p-carboxyphenyl)imidazolylarenes as a novel class of linkers for the development of functional MOFs, we have found that bisimidazole-tetracarboxylic acid H4DMBI undergoes metal-assisted self-assembly with Zn(NO3)2 to yield a layered MOF (Zn-DMBI). In the latter, the linker serves as a two-connecting linker with imidazoles and carboxylic acids behaving as zwitterions. The layers are offset stacked in the crystal structure and are bound firmly by hydrogen bonds between imidazolium and carboxylate ions. Such a packing precludes fluorescence from being observed due to self-quenching. However, exfoliation into zwitterionic 2D metal-organic nanosheets (MONs) by sonication in methanol for 1 h liberates palpable fluorescence. Furthermore, the suspension of luminescent MONs (LMONs) in methanol permits selective sensing of anions; in particular, dihydrogen phosphate (H2PO4-) that is complementary to the zwitterions in terms of hydrogen bond donor and acceptor sites is observed with fluorescence enhancement by 120%, leading to its detection at a sub-parts-per-million (0.13 ppm) level. Thus, access to zwitterionic 2D MONs and their application for selective anion sensing with "turn-on" fluorescence are demonstrated by a rational de novo bottom-up approach.

Abstract
The unique role of the zinc (II) cation prompted us to cut a cross-section of the large and complex topic of the stimuli-responsive coordination polymers (CPs). Due to its flexible coordination environment and geometries, easiness of coordination-decoordination equilibria, "optically innocent" ability to "clip" the ligands in emissive architectures, non-toxicity and sustainability, the zinc (II) cation is a good candidate for building supramolecular smart tools. The review summarizes the recent achievements of zinc-based CPs as stimuli-responsive materials able to provide a chromic response. An overview of the past five years has been organised, encompassing 1, 2 and 3D responsive zinc-based CPs; specifically zinc-based metallorganic frameworks and zinc-based nanosized polymeric probes. The most relevant examples were collected following a consequential and progressive approach, referring to the structure-responsiveness relationship, the sensing mechanisms, the analytes and/or parameters detected. Finally, applications of highly bioengineered Zn-CPs for advanced imaging technique have been discussed.

Abstract
A water-stable In-MOF, constructed based on a conformationally-flexible tetraacid linker, i.e., 2,7-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-9,9'-diphenyl-9H-fluorene, i.e., H4DPF, is shown to exhibit a significantly enhanced solid-state fluorescence quantum yield (φf) of 23% in comparison with that of the linker (φfca. 4%) as a consequence of rigidification of the latter by metalation. Application of external stimulus in the form of grinding of the In-MOF leads to a drastic enhancement by 29%, φf from 23 to 52%. Solid-state absorption and emission spectra show that the absorption in the region of 368-550 nm gets diminished with a concomitant change in the emission maximum with a blue shift upon grinding. Fluorescence enhancement with grinding is correlated with a gradual reduction in the size of the particles, as established by SEM analysis. MOF particle aggregation has been invoked to account for the observed fluorescence enhancement in addition to a subtle conformational change in the structure of the linker upon grinding. Intriguingly, the ground MOF particles exhibit aggregation behaviour in the DMF-water solvent system with the emission further increasing up to 75% for the increase in the water fraction (fw) from 0 to 60%; hydrophobic aggregation of particles evidently leads to a change in the conformation of the linker and particle aggregation-enhanced emission (AEE). De-aggregation of particles ensues for fw = 70-90%, as reflected by a gradual decrease in the emission intensity. It is shown that the suspension of ground In-MOF particles in water permits sensing of metal ions, in particular Al3+ ions, by fluorescence quenching with detection at a sub-ppb level. The observed results comprise first demonstration of both mechanoluminescence and AEE of MOF particles.

Abstract
Optical sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity, as important analytical tools for chemical and environmental research, can be realized by straightforward synthesis of luminescent one-, two- and three-dimensional Zn(ii) and Cd(ii) crystalline coordination arrays (CPs and MOFs). In these materials with emission centers typically based on charge transfer and intraligand emissions, the quantitative detection of specific analytes, as pesticides or anions, is probed by monitoring real-time changes in their photoluminescence and color emission properties. Pesticides/herbicides have extensive uses in agriculture and household applications. Also, a large amount of metal salts of cyanide is widely used in several industrial processes such as mining and plastic manufacturing. Acute or chronic exposure to these compounds can produce high levels of toxicity in humans, animals and plants. Due to environmental concerns associated with the accumulation of these noxious species in food products and water supplies, there is an urgent and growing need to develop direct, fast, accurate and low-cost sensing methodologies. In this critical frontier, we discuss the effective strategies, chemical stability, luminescence properties, sensitivity and selectivity of recently developed hybrid Zn(ii)/Cd(ii)-organic materials with analytical applications in the direct sensing of pesticides, herbicides and cyanide ions in the aqueous phase and organic solvents.
