Abstract
The photoluminescence properties of organic-inorganic pyridinium lead bromide [(pyH)PbBr3] and iodide [(pyH)PbI3] compounds were investigated as a function of temperature. The inorganic substructure consists of face-sharing chains of PbX6 octahedra. Diffuse reflectance spectra of the compounds show low energy absorption features consistent with charge transfer transitions from the PbX3 chains to the pyridinium cations. Both compounds display extremely weak luminescence at room temperature that becomes strongly enhanced upon cooling to 77 K. Broad, featureless low energy emission (λem > 600 nm) in both compounds have large Stokes shifts [1.1 eV for (pyH)PbBr3 and 0.46 eV for (pyH)PbI3] and are assigned to transitions from self-trapped excitons on the inorganic chains whereas emission at higher energy in (pyH)PbBr3 (λem = 450 nm) is assigned to luminescence from a free exciton state. Analysis of data from temperature-dependent luminescence intensity measurements gives activation energies (Ea) for non-radiative decay of the self-trapped excitons in (pyH)PbBr3 and (pyH)PbI3, (Ea = 0.077 eV and 0.103 eV, respectively) and for the free exciton in (pyH)PbBr3 (Ea = 0.010 eV). Analysis of temperature dependent luminescence lifetime data indicates another non-radiative decay process in (pyH)PbI3 at higher temperatures (Ea = 0.17 eV). A large increase in the luminescence lifetime of (pyH)PbI3 below 80 K is consistent with thermalization between triplet sublevels. Analysis of the luminescence power dependence for (pyH)PbI3 shows superlinear response suggestive of quenching by static traps.

Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides have attracted widespread attention due to their excellent tunability and versatility. Here, we have selected pyridinium derivatives with different substituent groups or substitution positions as the organic templating cations and obtained six 1D chain-like structures. They are divided into three types: type I (single chain), type II (double chain), and type III (triple chain), with tunable optical band gaps and emission properties. Among them, only (2,4-LD)PbBr3 (2,4-LD = 2,4-lutidine) shows an exciton-dependent emission phenomenon, ranging from strong yellow-white to weak red-white light. By comparing its photoluminescence spectrum with that of its bromate (2,4-LD)Br, it is found that the strong yellow-white emission at 534 nm mainly came from the organic component. Furthermore, through a comparison of the fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of (2,4-LD)PbBr3 and (2-MP)PbBr3 (2-MP = 2-methylpyridine) with similar structures at different temperatures, we confirm that the tunable emission of (2,4-LD)PbBr3 comes from different photoluminescent sources corresponding to organic cations and self-trapped excitons. Density functional theory calculations further reveal that (2,4-LD)PbBr3 has a stronger interaction between organic and inorganic components compared to (2-MP)PbBr3. This work highlights the importance of organic templating cations in hybrid metal halides and the new functionalities associated with them.

Abstract
Recently, lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted extensive attention due to their unique optical properties. However, the toxicity of lead and the instability to moisture obstruct their further commercial development. Herein, a series of lead-free CsMnX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) NCs embedded in glasses were synthesized by a high temperature solid-state chemistry method. These NCs embedded in glass can remain stable after soaking in water for 90 days. It is found that increasing the amount of cesium carbonate in the synthesis process can not only prevent the oxidation of Mn2+ to Mn3+ and promote the transparency of glass in the 450-700 nm region, but also significantly increase its photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 2.9% to 65.1%, which is the highest reported value of the red CsMnX3 NCs so far. Using CsMnBr3 NCs with a red emission peak at 649 nm and full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of 130 nm as the red light source, a white light-emitting diode (LED) device with International Commission on illumination (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.36) and a color rendering index (CRI) of 94 was obtained. These findings, together with future research, are likely to yield stable and bright lead-free NCs for the next generation of solid-state lighting.

Abstract
The luminescence of single crystals of (TBA)PbCl3, (TBA)2Sb2Cl8, (TBA)3Bi2Cl9 and (TBA)SnCl5·2EtOH (TBA = tetrabutylammonium, EtOH = Ethanol) synthsized were assigned distinctively to the centres of self-trapped excitons (STEs), TBA+, TBA+ and co-emission of STEs and TBA+. This work demonstrates that organic cations without benzene or aromatic rings can also be used as the sole luminescence centres for metal halides.

Abstract
A one dimensional (1D) perovskite-type (C6H7NBr)3[CdBr5] (abbreviated 4-BAPC) was synthesized by slow evaporation at room temperature (RT). 4-BAPC crystalizes in the monoclinic system with the space group P21/c. The 1D inorganic chains are formed by corner sharing CdBr6 octahedra. Thermal measurement shows that 4-BAPC is stable up to 190 °C. Optical characterization demonstrates that the grown crystal is an indirect bandgap material with a bandgap value of 3.93 eV, which is consistent with theoretical calculations. The electronic structure, calculated using density functional theory, reveals that the valence band originates from a combination of Br-4p orbitals and Cd-4d orbitals, whereas the conduction band originates from the Cd-5s orbitals. The photoluminescence spectroscopy shows that the obtained material exhibits a broad-band white light emission with extra-high CRI of 98 under λ exc = 380 nm. This emission is mainly resulting from the self-trapped exciton recombinations within the inorganic CdBr6 octahedron, and the fluorescence within the organic conjugated ammonium salt.

Abstract

Hybrid organic–inorganic
lead halide perovskites have emerged
as promising materials for various applications, including solar cells,
light-emitting devices, dielectrics, and optical switches. In this
work, we report the synthesis, crystal structures, and linear and
nonlinear optical as well as dielectric properties of three imidazolium
lead bromides, IMPbBr3, IM2PbBr4,
and IM3PbBr5 (IM+ = imidazolium).
We show that these compounds exhibit three distinct structure types.
IMPbBr3 crystallizes in the 4H-hexagonal perovskite structure
with face- and corner-shared PbBr6 octahedra (space group P63/mmc at 295 K), IM2PbBr4 adopts a one-dimensional (1D) double-chain structure
with edge-shared octahedra (space group P1̅
at 295 K), while IM3PbBr5 crystallizes in the
1D single-chain structure with corner-shared PbBr6 octahedra
(space group P1̅ at 295 K). All compounds exhibit
two structural phase transitions, and the lowest temperature phases
of IMPbBr3 and IM3PbBr5 are noncentrosymmetric
(space groups Pna21 at 190 K and P1 at 100 K, respectively), as confirmed by measurements
of second-harmonic generation (SHG) activity. X-ray diffraction and
thermal and Raman studies demonstrate that the phase transitions feature
an order–disorder mechanism. The only exception is the isostructural P1̅ to P1̅ phase transition
at 141 K in IM2PbBr4, which is of a displacive
type. Dielectric studies reveal that IMPbBr3 is a switchable
dielectric material, whereas IM3PbBr5 is an
improper ferroelectric. All compounds exhibit broadband, highly shifted
Stokes emissions. Features of these emissions, i.e., band gap and excitonic absorption, are discussed in relation to
the different structures of each composition. Three imidazolium lead bromides of various
chemical compositions
and crystal structures display broadband photoluminescence that can
be tuned from bluish-green to orange. All compounds exhibit two structural
phase transitions, which lead to interesting optical and electrical
properties such SHG activity, ferroelectricity, or dielectric switching.

Abstract
Single-component healthy white light was achieved via Mn2+ post-doping into blue perovskite nanoplates (NPLs). The white light consists of two complementary colors, sky-blue (482 nm) and orange-red (610 nm), without harmful deep blue light (400-450 nm), which realizes the Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.33) (standard pure white light) and a color temperature of 6000 K. Benefitting from the lattice shrinking via Mn2+ doping, the stability of white NPLs toward long-term storage, UV light, heat, and polar solvents was greatly improved. Finally, a healthy and stable white light-emitting diode (WLED) was fabricated via down-conversion of a UV light LED with our white perovskite NPLs, and the WLED worked continuously for 240 minutes with a color drift of only (±0.006, ±0.004) and with a half lifetime (T50) of 212 minutes.

Abstract
The structures of the disordered 1D (pseudo-)perovskites of general TMSO(PbxBiy)I3formulation [TMSO = (CH3)3SO+], obtained by doping the TMSOPbI3species with Bi3+ions, are investigated through the formulation of a statistical model of correlated disorder, which addresses the sequences of differently occupied BI6face-sharing octahedra (B = Pb, Bi or vacant site) within ideally infinite [(BI3)-]nchains. The x-ray diffraction patterns simulated on the basis of the model are matched to the experimental traces, which show many broad peaks with awkward (nearly trapezoidal) shapes, under the assumption that the charge balance is fully accomplished within each chain. The analysis allowed to establish a definite tendency of the metal species to cluster as pure Pb and Bi sequences. The application of the model is discussed critically, in particular as what concerns the possibility that further B-site neighbors beyond the second may influence the overall B-site occupancies.

Abstract
Metal halides (TMPL)3InCl6·EtOH:xSb3+ with tunable colors were obtained by gradient Sb3+ doping. Interestingly, white emission was achieved when 0.1% of Sb3+ was employed, due to a combination of the cyan emission of organic moiety and orange emission from metal halides.

Abstract
0D perovskites have gained much attention in recent years due to their fascinating properties derived from their peculiar structure with isolated metal halide octahedra or metal halide clusters. However, the systematic discussion on the crystal and electronic structure of 0D perovskites to further understand their photophysical characteristics and the comprehensive overview of 0D perovskites for their further applications are still lacking. In this review, the unique crystal and electronic structure of 0D perovskites and their diverse properties are comprehensively analyzed, including large bandgaps, high exciton binding energy, and largely Stokes-shifted broadband emissions from self-trapped excitons. Furthermore, the photoluminescence regulation are discussed. Then, the various synthetic methods for 0D perovskite single crystals, nanocrystals, and thin films are comprehensively summarized. Finally, the emerging applications of 0D perovskites to light-emitting diodes, solar cells, detectors, and some others are illustrated, and the outlook on future research in the field is also provided.

Abstract
One-dimensional (1D) organic-inorganic hybrid lead halides with unique core-shell quantum wire structures and splendid photoluminescence properties have been considered one of the most promising high-efficiency broadband emitters. However, studies on the broadband emissions in 1D purely face-shared lead iodide hybrids are still rare so far. Herein, we report on a new 1D lead iodide hybrid, (2cepyH)PbI3 (2cepy = 1-(2-chloroethyl)pyrrolidine), characterized with face-sharing PbI6 octahedral chains. Upon UV photoexcitation, this material shows broadband yellow emissions originating from the self-trapped excitons associated with distorted Pb-I lattices on account of the strong exciton-phonon coupling, as proved by variable-temperature emission spectra. Moreover, experimental and calculated results reveal that (2cepyH)PbI3 is an indirect bandgap semiconductor, the band structures of which are governed by inorganic parts. Our work represents the first broadband emitter based on a 1D face-shared lead iodide hybrid and opens a new way to obtain the novel broadband emission materials.

Abstract
The present work deals with the optical properties of hybrid organic metal halide material namely (C9H8NO)2SnCl6·2H2O. Its structure is built up from isolated [SnCl6]2- octahedral dianions surrounded by Hydroxyl quinolinium organic cations (C9H8NO)+, abbreviated as [HQ]+. Unlike the usual hybrid materials, where metal halide ions are luminescent semiconductors while the organic ones are optically inactive, [HQ]2SnCl6·2H2O contains two optically active entities: [HQ]+ organic cations and [SnCl6]2- dianions. The optical properties of the synthesized crystals were studied by optical absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence measurements and DFT calculations of electronic density of states. These studies have shown that both organic and inorganic entities have very close HOMO-LUMO gaps and very similar band alignments favoring the resonant energy transfer process. In addition, measurements of luminescence under variable excitations reveal an intense green luminescence around 497 nm under UV excitation (down conversion) and infrared excitation (up conversion luminescence). The down conversion luminescence is assigned to the π-π* transition within the [HQ] + organic cations involving charge transfer between the organic and inorganic entities, whereas the up-conversion luminescence is based on the triplet-triplet annihilation mechanism (TTA).

Abstract
A novel one-dimensional (1D) hybrid {[Re6S8(PzH)6][Pb3I8(DMF)2]}·6(DMF) with hexarhenium cluster cations has been synthesized and characterized by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two DMF oxygen atoms bridge three lead iodides to form a set of lead iodides, {[PbI4/2I(ODMF)1/2][PbI4/2(ODMF)2/2][PbI4/2I(ODMF)1/2]}2-, and these sets of lead iodide share edges to form a 1D lead iodide chain, [Pb3I8(DMF)2]2- which has never been reported before and is different from the typical edge sharing of octahedral PbI6 units. 1D lead iodide chains are stacked along the a axis, and [Re6S8(PzH)6]2+ cations with H-bonded DMF molecules to pyrazole N-H reside between 1D lead iodide chains. This 1D lead iodide hybrid shows strong broad-band emission with a peak at 634 nm. The excellent photoluminescent properties of the new lead iodide hybrid exhibit great potential for optoelectronic applications in photonic devices with broad-band emission and stability. This study introduces a new class of lead iodide hybrid compounds having new inorganic cluster cations rather than the organic amine cations that have been used in numerous studies to date. This work opens a promising path to overcome the instability of perovskites including of organic amine cations.

Abstract
A new one-dimensional (1D) face-shared hybrid lead bromide of (2cepiH)PbBr3, which exhibits intrinsic broadband yellow-light emission with a quantum yield of 16.8% outperforming all previously reported 1D face-shared hybrid metal halides, is obtained. The origin of broadband emission and the coexistence of free excitons and self-trapped excitons are deeply investigated by variable-temperature photoluminescence spectra. Our work paves the way to discovering more wonderful light-emitting materials.

Abstract
Low-dimensional metal halide hybrids (OIMHs) have recently been explored as single-component white-light emitters for use in solid-state lighting. However, it still remains challenging to realize tunable white-light emission in lead-free zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid system. Here, a combination strategy has been proposed through doping Sb3+ enabling and balancing multiple emission centers toward the multiband warm white light. We first synthesized a new lead-free 0D (C8NH12)6InBr9·H2O single crystal, in which isolated [InBr6]3- octahedral units are separated by large organic cations [C8NH12]+. (C8NH12)6InBr9·H2O exhibits dual-band emissions with one intense cyan emission and a weak red emission tail. The low-energy ultrabroadband red emission tail can be greatly enhanced by the Sb3+ doping. Experimental data and first-principles calculations reveal that the original dominant cyan emission is originated from the organic cations [C8NH12]+ and that the broadband red emission is ascribed to self-trapped excitons in [In(Sb)Br6]3-. When the Sb concentration is 0.1%, a single-component warm white-light emission with a photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 23.36%, correlated color temperature of 3347 K, and a color rendering index up to 84 can be achieved. This work represents a significant step toward the realization of single-component white-light emissions in environmental-friendly, high-performance 0D metal halide light-emitting materials.
