Abstract
Starch is the main source of energy and nutrition. Therefore, some merchants often illegally add cheaper starches to other types of starches or package cheaper starches as higher priced starches to raise the price. In this study, 159 samples of commercially available wheat starch, potato starch, corn starch and sweet potato starch were selected for the identification and classification based on multispectral techniques, including near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (MIR) and Raman spectroscopy combined with chemometrics, including pretreatment methods, characteristic wavelength selection methods and classification algorithms. The results indicate that all three spectral techniques can be used to discriminate starch types. The Raman spectroscopy demonstrated superior performance compared to that of NIR and MIR spectroscopy. The accuracy of the models after characteristic wavelength selection is generally superior to that of the full spectrum, and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) achieves better model performance than other wavelength selection methods. Among the four classification methods, convolutional neural network (CNN) exhibited the best prediction performance, achieving accuracies of 99.74 %, 97.57 % and 98.65 % in NIR, MIR and Raman spectra, respectively, without pretreatment or characteristic wavelength selection.

Abstract
Aroma is a key criterion in evaluating aromatic coconut water. A comparison regarding key aroma compounds and sensory correlations was made between Thailand Aromatic Green Dwarf (THD) and Cocos nucifera L. cv. Wenye No. 4 coconut water using E-nose and GC × GC-O-TOF-MS combined with chemometrics. Twenty-one volatile components of coconut water were identified by GC × GC-O-TOF-MS, and 5 key aroma compounds were analyzed by relative odor activity value and aroma extract dilution analysis. Moreover, the combination of the E-nose with orthogonal partial least squares was highly effective in discriminating between the two coconut water samples and screened the key sensors responsible for this differentiation. Additionally, the correlation between volatile compounds and sensory properties was established using partial least squares. The key aroma compounds of coconut water exhibited positive correlations with the corresponding sensory properties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of CMTM6 in HCC tissues and its prognostic value, and to try to develop a nomogram prognostic model based on CMTM6. METHODS In this retrospective study, immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was performed in 178 patients who underwent radical hepatectomy in the same surgical team. R software was used to construct the nomogram model. The Bootstrap sampling method was used for internal validation. RESULTS CMTM6 is significantly expressed in HCC tissues and is closely associated with decreased overall survival (OS). PVTT (HR = 6.2, 95% CI: 3.06 12.6, P<0.001), CMTM6 (HR=2.30, 95% CI: 1.27 4.0, P=0.006) and MVI (HR=10.8, 95% CI: 4.19-27.6, P<0.001) were independent predictors of OS. The nomogram combined with CMTM6, PVTT and MVI was more predictive than the traditional TNM scoring system, and the prediction effects of 1-year and 3-year OS were accurate. CONCLUSIONS The prognosis of a patient may be predicted using high levels of CMTM6 expression in HCC tissues, and the nomogram model including CMTM6 expression has the best predictive ability.

Abstract
Cannabidiol (CBD) is the major functional component in hemp and has a broad range of pharmacological applications, such as analgesic, anti-epileptic, anti-anxiety, etc. Currently, CBD is widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food. To ensure the quality and safety of the products containing CBD, more and more related sample testing is being conducted, and the demand for CBD-certified reference material (CRM) has also sharply increased. However, there is currently a lack of relevant reference materials. In this paper, a simple method for preparing CBD CRM was established based on preparative liquid chromatography using crude hemp extract as a raw material. A qualitative analysis of CBD was performed using techniques such as ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (UV), infrared spectroscopy (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used for the homogeneity and stability tests, and the data were analyzed using an F-test and a T-test, respectively. Then, eight qualified laboratories were chosen for the determination of a certified value using HPLC. The results show that the CBD CRM had excellent homogeneity and good stability for 18 months. The certified value was 99.57%, with an expanded uncertainty of 0.24% (p = 0.95, k = 2). The developed CBD CRM can be used for the detection and quality control of cannabidiol products.

Abstract
KEY MESSAGE OsSPL10 is a negative regulator of rice defense against BPH, knockout of OsSPL10 enhances BPH resistance through upregulation of defense-related genes and accumulation of secondary metabolites. Rice (Oryza sativa L.), one of the most important staple foods worldwide, is frequently attacked by various herbivores, including brown planthopper (BPH, Nilaparvata lugens). BPH is a typical monophagous, phloem-sucking herbivore that has been a substantial threat to rice production and global food security. Understanding the regulatory mechanism of defense responses to BPH is essential for improving BPH resistance in rice. In this study, a SQUAMOSA PROMOTER-BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE 10 (OsSPL10) transcription factor was found to play a negative role in the defenses of rice against BPH. To gain insights into the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of OsSPL10, we performed combined analyses of transcriptome and metabolome, and revealed that knockout of OsSPL10 gene improved rice resistance against BPH by enhancing the direct and indirect defenses. Genes involved in plant hormone signal transduction, MAPK signaling pathway, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and plant-pathogen interaction pathway were significantly upregulated in spl10 mutant. Moreover, spl10 mutant exhibited increased accumulation of defense-related secondary metabolites in the phenylpropanoid and terpenoid pathways. Our findings reveal a novel role for OsSPL10 gene in regulating the rice defense responses, which can be used as a potential target for genetic improvement of BPH resistance in rice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES A well-functioning health system ensures timely routine measles vaccinations for age-appropriate children, minimising measles risk. However, there is limited knowledge about the impact of the performance of immunisation programmes in health systems on the timeliness of measles vaccination. This study aimed to identify health system barriers to timely routine measles vaccination in rural southwest China, integrating the perspectives of township vaccination professionals and village doctors. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Qualitative study among township vaccination professionals and village doctors in rural Guangxi, southwest China. METHODS 20 focus group discussions (FGDs) at township level and 120 in-depth interviews (IDIs) at village level, based on a four-theme framework. We used convenience sampling to recruit 60 township vaccination professionals and 120 village doctors in 2015. Instruments used were a semistructured questionnaire and interview outlines. We collected township and village-level data focusing on themes of health resources allocation, pattern of vaccination services, management and supervision of vaccination services, and perceptions of vaccination policy. The FGDs and IDIs were audio-recorded and transcribed. Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis approach was adopted to synthesise findings into meaningful subthemes, narrative text and illustrative quotations. RESULTS The health system barriers to timely routine vaccinations were explored across four themes. Barriers in the health resources allocation theme comprised (1) inadequacy of vaccination-related human resources (eg, lack of township vaccination professionals and lack of young village doctors), and (2) incompatible and non-identical information system of vaccination services across regions. Barriers in the pattern of vaccination services theme included inflexible vaccination services models, for example, routine vaccination services being offered monthly on fixed vaccination days, limited numbers of vaccination days per month, vaccination days being set on non-local market days, vaccination days being clustered into a specific period and absence of formal vaccination appointments. Ineffective economic incentive mechanism was identified as a barrier in the management and supervision of vaccination services theme. Low-degree participation of village doctors in routine vaccination services was identified as a barrier in the perceptions of vaccination policy theme. CONCLUSIONS We encourage policymakers and stakeholders to apply these findings to improve the timeliness of routine vaccination. Barriers to timely routine vaccination include inadequate allocation of vaccination-related resources and inflexible vaccination service delivery models. Financial and non-financial incentives should be used to retain and recruit vaccination professionals and village doctors. Strengthening information systems with unified data standards enables cross-regional data exchange. Optimising immunisation services and rationalising vaccination days could eliminate health system barriers and improve vaccination timeliness in rural China.

Abstract
Exosomes have been implicated in inflammation-related diseases, such as hepatic fibrosis (HF) and renal fibrosis, via transferring bioactive cargoes to recipient cells. This study aimed to investigate the possible effect of hepatic stellate cell (HSC)-derived exosomes on the initiation and development of HF by delivering microRNA (miR)-199a-5p. In HF rats with cholestasis induced by ligating the common bile duct, miR-199a-5p was upregulated while SIRT1 was downregulated in liver tissues from bile duct ligation (BDL) rats compared with that of sham rats. Furthermore, miR-199a-5p expression was upregulated, but the mRNA and protein expression levels of SIRT1 were downregulated in TGF-β1-activated LX-2. miR-199a-5p promoted the proliferation and further activation of LX-2 and enhanced the expression levels of the HF markers COL1A1 and α-SMA. Subsequently, the binding of miR-199a-5p to the 3'UTR of SIRT1 mRNA was predicted by bioinformatics websites and evidenced by fluorescent reporter assay. Knocking down SIRT1 enhanced the abilities of LX-2 cell proliferation, migration, and colony formation and increased the expression levels of the HF markers α-SMA and COL1A1. LX-2-derived exosomal miR-199a-5p transferred to LX-2 and THLE-2, inhibited the proliferation of THLE-2, and promoted the epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) and senescence of THLE-2. Furthermore, in vivo results suggested that miR-199a-5p overexpression aggravated HF in BDL rats; increased miR-199a-5p, α-SMA, and COL1A1 expression levels; and significantly upregulated the serum ALT, AST, TBA, and TBIL levels. However, reverse results were obtained with inhibited miR-199a-5p expression. In conclusion, HSC-derived exosomal miR-199a-5p may promote HF by accelerating HSC activation and hepatocyte EMT by targeting SIRT1, suggesting that miR-199a-5p and SIRT1 may serve as potential therapeutic targets for HF.

Abstract
Adsorption is an effective method for the removal of hazardous substances from wastewater. In this work, a low-cost and environmental-friendly composite hydrogel material of sodium alginate doped with nitrogen doped carbon dots (SA@NCDs) was fabricated by impregnation for lanthanide and enhanced phosphorus adsorption in wastewater. The effects of NCDs doping amount, dosage, pH, initial solution concentration, adsorption time and temperature on the process of La (III) adsorption by SA@NCDs were investigated. The adsorption isotherms fitted to Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9970-0.9989) and the adsorption kinetics followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.9992). The maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for La (III) was 217.39 mg/g according to the Langmuir model at 298.15 K. After five cycles, the removal efficiency of La (III) adsorbed by SA@NCDs was still 85.1%. Moreover, the loaded La (III) enhanced the adsorption of phosphorus. The La (III)-SA@NCDs-5 hydrogel adsorbent greatly improved the adsorption capacity for phosphorus compared with the La (III)-free adsorbent, and the adsorption amount can reach 9.64 mg-P/g. The SA@NCDs complex hydrogels for rare earth adsorption were prepared by introducing NCDs rich in amino group into SA hydrogels. The introduction of NCDs increases the adsorption sites of hydrogels, and also overcomes the problem that NCDs itself is difficult to recover in wastewater treatment applications. The lanthanide adsorbed material has a stable structure and can be used to remove phosphorus to deal with waste using the waste. It indicates the SA@NCDs hydrogel composite adsorbent have good potential for wastewater treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spatial epidemiology plays an important role in public health. Yet, it is unclear whether the current university education in spatial epidemiology in China could meet the competency-oriented professional demands. This study aimed to understand the current situation of education and training, practical application, and potential demands in spatial epidemiology among public health postgraduates in China, and to assess the critical gaps in a future emerging infectious diseases (EID) pandemic preparedness and response. METHODS This study was divided into three parts. The first part was a comparative study on spatial epidemiology education in international public health postgraduate training. The second part was a cross-sectional survey conducted among public health professionals. The third part was a nationwide cross-sectional survey conducted among public health postgraduates at Chinese universities from October 2020 to February 2021. Data was collected by the WeChat-based questionnaire star survey system and analyzed using the SPSS software. RESULTS International education institutions had required public health postgraduates to master the essential knowledge and capacity of spatial epidemiology. A total of 198 public health professionals were surveyed, and they had a median of 4.00 (IQR 3.13-4.53) in demand degree of spatial epidemiology. A total of 1354 public health postgraduates were surveyed from 51 universities. Only 29.41% (15/51) of universities offered spatial epidemiology course. Around 8.05% (109/1354) of postgraduates had learned spatial epidemiology, and had a median of 1.05 (IQR 1.00-1.29) in learning degree and a median of 1.91 (IQR 1.05-2.78) in practical application degree of spatial epidemiology. To enhance professional capacity, 65.95% (893/1354) of postgraduates hoped that universities would deliver a credit-course of spatial epidemiology. CONCLUSIONS A huge unmet education and training demand in spatial epidemiology existed in the current education system of public health postgraduates in China. To enhance the competency-oriented professional capacity in preparedness and response to a future pandemic, it is urgent to incorporate the teaching and training of spatial epidemiology into the compulsory curriculum system of public health postgraduates in China.

Abstract
The quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) approach is widely used in sample pretreatment in agricultural products, food, environment, etc. And nano-materials are widely used in QuEChERS method due to its small size and large specific surface area. In this review, we examine the typical applications of several commonly used nano-materials in improved QuEChERS method. These materials include multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and their derivatives, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), metal organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), graphene oxide (GO), lipid and protein adsorbent (LPAS), cucurbituril (CBs), and carbon nano-cages (CNCs), and so on. The strengths and weaknesses of each nano-material are presented, as well as the challenging aspects that need to be addressed in future research. By comparing the applications and the current technology development, this review suggests utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to screen suitable combinations of purification agents and performing virtual simulation experiments to verify the reliability of this methodology. By doing so, we aim to accelerate the development of new products and decrease the cost of innovation. It also recommends designing smarter pretreatment instruments to enhance the convenience and automation of the sample pretreatment process and reduce the margin for human error.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to investigate the clinical value of the Global Registry of Arterial Events in Acute Coronary Syndromes (GRACE) score combined with the D-dimer/fibrinogen ratio (DFR) in predicting the short-term prognosis of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) early after thrombolysis for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 102 patients who underwent PCI early after thrombolysis for AMI during April 2020 to January 2022 in our hospital were picked as study subjects. These subjects were assigned as the good prognosis group (without adverse cardiovascular events) and poor prognosis group (with adverse cardiovascular events) according to whether adverse cardiovascular events occurred during hospitalization and follow-up. Changes in GRACE scores and DFR levels in patients with different prognoses were analyzed. The GRACE score and DFR level of patients with different prognosis were analyzed. The clinic pathological characteristics were collected, and the risk factors for poor prognosis of AMI patients were analyzed by logistic risk regression; ROC curve was used to analyze the prognostic value of GRACE score combined with DFR in early PCI patients after AMI thrombolysis. RESULTS Compared with the good prognosis group, the GRACE score and DFR level in the poor prognosis group were much higher (p<0.001). Significant differences existed in blood pressure, ejection fraction, number of diseased branches, and Killip grading between the patients with good prognosis and those with poor prognosis (p<0.05). There existed no significant difference in clinical medication between the patients with good prognosis and those with poor prognosis (p>0.05). Logistic multivariate analysis indicated that GRACE score, DFR, ejection fraction, number of lesion branches, and Killip grade were all risk factors influencing the prognosis of patients undergoing early PCI after thrombolysis in AMI (p<0.05). The ROC curve was established and the area under the curve (AUC) of GRACE score, DFR, and combined detection were 0.815, 0.783, and 0.894, respectively, and the sensitivity and specificity were 80.24%, 60.42%, 83.71%, 66.78%, 91.42% and 77.83%, respectively. The AUC, sensitivity, and specificity of combined detection were higher than those of the two alone and had a higher predictive value for the short-term prognosis of patients. CONCLUSIONS The GRACE score combined with DFR was of great value in diagnosing the short-term prognosis of patients undergoing PCI early after thrombolysis for AMI. Furthermore, the GRACE score, DFR, ejection fraction, number of lesion branches, and Killip classification were all important factors influencing the short-term prognosis of patients, which were of great significance in determining the prognosis of patients.

Abstract
Previous research on the link between CMTM6 expression dysregulation and tumor prognosis has been conflicting. In this study, the predictive effect of CMTM6 in malignant tumors was carefully evaluated using meta-analysis. The literature on the relationship between CMTM6 expression level and malignant tumor prognosis was searched in PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases until April 2021. Data were extracted from eligible studies and analyzed using RevMan5.3 and STATA 12.0 software. The HR and 95%CI were used to analyze the link between CMTM6 expression and OS. And the correlation between CMTM6 expression and clinicopathological features LNM and DM was evaluated by OR and 95%CI. Literature screening eventually included 12 studies involving 2133 patients with malignant tumors. High CMTM6 expression was found to be strongly linked with shorter OS and PFS in cancer patients (HR = 1.84,95%CI: 1.28-2.63, P = 0.001). High CMTM6 expression in gastrointestinal cancers was found to be significantly related with a shorter OS (HR = 2.21, 95%CI: 1.75-2.78, P 0.001). PFS was observed to be related with high CMTM6 expression in cancer patients (HR = 2.029, 95%CI: 1.263-3.26, P = 0.003). Meanwhile, high CMTM6 expression was highly associated to LNM (OR = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.02-2.64, P = 0.043) and DM (OR = 4.07, 95%CI: 1.73-9.56, P = 0.001). However, the expression level of CMTM6 in non-gastrointestinal tumors was not statistically significant with OS or LNM. High CMTM6 expression in gastrointestinal cancers is linked to shorter OS and PFS, as well as LNM and DM, suggesting that high CMTM6 expression could be employed as a new diagnosis for poor prognosis and metastasis.

Abstract
Hepatic fibrosis (HF) is a worldwide health problem for which there is no medically effective drug treatment at present, and which is characterized by activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. The HF model in cholestatic rats by ligating the common bile duct was induced and the differentially expressed miRNAs in the liver tissues were analyzed by microarray, which showed that miR-22-3p and miR-29a-3p were significantly downregulated in bile-duct ligation (BDL) rat liver compared with the sham control. The synergistic anti-HF activity and molecular mechanism of miR-22-3p and miR-29a-3p by targeting AKT serine/threonine kinase 3 (AKT3) in HSCs were explored. The expression levels of miR-22-3p and miR-29a-3p were downregulated in activated LX-2 and human primary normal hepatic fibroblasts (NFs), whereas AKT3 was found to be upregulated in BDL rat liver and activated LX-2 cells. The proliferation, colony-forming, and migration ability of LX-2 were inhibited synergistically by miR-22-3p and miR-29a-3p. In addition, cellular senescence was induced and the expressions of the LX-2 fibrosis markers COL1A1 and α-SMA were inhibited by miR-22-3p and miR-29a-3p synergistically. Subsequently, these two miRNAs binding to the 3'UTR of AKT3 mRNA was predicted and evidenced by the luciferase reporter assay. Furthermore, the proliferation, migration, colony-forming ability, and the expression levels of COL1A1 and α-SMA were promoted and cellular senescence was inhibited by AKT3 in LX-2 cells. Thus, miR-22-3p/miR-29a-3p/AKT3 regulates the activation of HSCs, providing a new avenue in the study and treatment of HF.

Abstract
Straw will degrade into segment, powder and crystalline cellulose, while the agricultural film will degrade into microplastics (MPs) in farmland soils. The specific surface area of these micro-particles increases and many new functional groups are formed in the degradation process, which can be a good vector of pesticides. To more accurately and truly analyze the risk of main imported substances and their degradation products against pollutants in soil, the adsorption behavior and mechanism of four commonly used pesticides on aged polyethylene microplastics (APE), wheat straw segment (WSS), wheat straw powder (WSP), and straw crystalline cellulose (SCC) were analyzed and compared through batch adsorption experiments and infrared spectrum. The adsorption kinetics of four pesticides on MPs and straw degradation products tended to be pseudo-second-order kinetics; the adsorption isotherms of pesticides on APE and SCC tended to fit the Freundlich model, while on WSP and WSS tended to fit the Langmuir model. The adsorption was a spontaneous endothermic increase process, suggesting that the main adsorption force of pesticides on MPs and straw degradation products was hydrophobic diffusion. The adsorption of pesticides against WSP and WSS still had a certain π-π conjugation and electrostatic interaction. And the adsorption amount on the straw degradation products followed the order of WSP > WSS > APE > SCC, presumably related to the specific surface area and pore volume of the adsorbent. As WSP, WSS could adsorb more pesticides, the straw returning to the field can be used for slow-release of pesticides to reduce the dosage of pesticides.

Abstract
Single-component healthy white light was achieved via Mn2+ post-doping into blue perovskite nanoplates (NPLs). The white light consists of two complementary colors, sky-blue (482 nm) and orange-red (610 nm), without harmful deep blue light (400-450 nm), which realizes the Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.33) (standard pure white light) and a color temperature of 6000 K. Benefitting from the lattice shrinking via Mn2+ doping, the stability of white NPLs toward long-term storage, UV light, heat, and polar solvents was greatly improved. Finally, a healthy and stable white light-emitting diode (WLED) was fabricated via down-conversion of a UV light LED with our white perovskite NPLs, and the WLED worked continuously for 240 minutes with a color drift of only (±0.006, ±0.004) and with a half lifetime (T50) of 212 minutes.

Abstract
Intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD) is a common aging disease. Excessive apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells has been widely considered a main contributor to IDD. Emerging science has shown that autophagy plays a protective role against apoptosis under oxidative stress. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a steroid hormone receptor that can regulate autophagy. The purpose of this study was to clarify whether VDR alleviates IDD by promoting autophagy. H2O2 stimulation was used to establish oxidative stress conditions. Initially, the expression level of VDR in human degenerative NP tissues was measured by immunohistochemistry. In addition, the CRISPR-dCas9-VPR system and siRNA were utilized to upregulate or downregulate VDR and Parkin expression, respectively. Autophagic and apoptotic markers were determined by Western blotting and RT-qPCR. Transmission electron microscopy was used to monitor the occurrence of autophagy in rat NP cells. VDR expression was downregulated in human degenerative NP tissues and H2O2-stimulated rat NP cells, indicating a negative correlation between VDR expression and IDD. VDR overexpression promoted mitophagy and prevented apoptosis and mitochondrial injury under oxidative stress. Additionally, mitophagy inhibition by 3-MA abolished the protective effect of VDR activation in vitro. Furthermore, VDR activation promoted mitophagy via the PINK1/Parkin pathway in H2O2-treated NP cells. This study demonstrates that VDR activation ameliorates oxidative damage and decreases NP cell apoptosis by promoting PINK1/Parkin-dependent mitophagy, indicating that VDR may serve as a promising therapeutic target in the management of IDD.

Abstract
Background It is well documented that the malignant biological behaviors of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) could trigger intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Panax notoginseng saponin (PNS) is a traditional Chinese medicine that inhibits osteoclastogenesis. However, its effects on the phenotypes of NPCs in IDD remains largely unknown. This study sought to examine the role of PNS in IDD and its regulatory mechanism. Methods First, human NPCs (hNPCs) were treated with interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) to induce an IDD cell model. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were estimated by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assays. Western blot was employed to examine the levels of proteins related to apoptosis and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were used to test inflammatory factors levels. Immunofluorescence (IF) assays were used to determine the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-kappa beta (NF-κB) p65. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR)was used to detect miR-222-3p expression. Results We discovered that PNS enhanced the viability but reduced the apoptosis, inflammation, and ER stress response of IL-1β-induced hNPCs in a concentration-dependent manner. Additionally, PNS significantly reduced miR-222-3p expression in the IL-1β-induced hNPCs. Notably, these PNS effects were reversed by the upregulation of miR-222-3p. Conclusions In summary, PNS appears to facilitate the proliferation and attenuate the apoptosis, inflammatory response, and ER stress response of IL-1β-induced hNPCs by inhibiting miR-222-3p expression. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for a novel drug application in IDD research.

Abstract
The aim of our study was to synthesize a pumpkin peel polysaccharide (PPP)-Cr(III) complex and investigate its hypoglycemic activity. Firstly, a novel PPP-Cr(III) complex with a Cr content of 23.77 mg/g was synthesized and characterized. Physicochemical characterization indicated that PPP-Cr(III) had some changes in chemical composition, monosaccharide composition, and morphological structure compared with PPP. The molecular weights of PPP-Cr(III) and PPP were 1.398 × 106 g/mol and 3.386 × 106 g/mol, respectively, showing a lower molecular weight after the introduction of Cr(III). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that a new characteristic absorption peak of Cr-O appeared at 534 cm-1 in PPP-Cr(III), indicating that Cr(III) was successfully complexed with PPP. Secondly, the hypoglycemic activity of PPP-Cr(III) based on α-glucosidase inhibitory and insulin resistance (IR)-HepG2 cells was evaluated. Compared with PPP, PPP-Cr(III) exhibited a more significantly α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The IR-HepG2 cells confirmed an obvious increase in glucose consumption. Western blot analysis demonstrated that the treated IR-HepG2 cells were able to increase the protein levels of p-AMPK and p-GSK-3β, indicating that IR-HepG2 cells exerted hypoglycemic activity via the AMPK/GSK-3β signaling pathway. These results suggested that PPP-Cr(III) had good hypoglycemic activity, which could provide theoretical support for the development of novel hypoglycemic products.

Abstract
What is already known about this topic? Aerosol transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) via sanitary pipelines in high-rise buildings is possible, however, there is a lack of experimental evidence. What is added by this report? The field simulation experiment confirmed the existence of a vertical aerosol transmission pathway from toilet flush-soil stack-floor drains without water seal. This report provided experimental evidence for vertical aerosol transmission of clustered outbreaks on 18 floors of a 33-story residential building. What are the implications for public health practice? The water seal on floor drains is a necessary barrier to prevent the risk of vertical aerosol transmission of infectious disease pathogens in buildings. It is necessary not only to have a U-shaped trap in the drainage pipe, but also to be filled with water regularly.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of 4-week tangeretin supplementation on the cortisol stress response induced by high-intensity resistance exercise. Methods: A randomized controlled trial of twenty-four soccer players was conducted during the winter training season. The experimental group (EG) took the oral supplement with tangeretin (200 mg/day) and the control group (CG) took placebo for 4 weeks. Before and after the 4-week intervention, all players performed a high intensity bout of resistance exercise to stimulate their cortisol stress responses. Serum cortisol, adreno-corticotropic hormone (ACTH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were obtained by collecting blood samples before (PRE), immediately after (P0), and 10 (P10), 20 (P20) and 30 minutes (P30) after the exercise. Results: The serum cortisol level (PRE, p = 0.017; P10, p = 0.010; P20, p = 0.014; P30, p = 0.007) and ACTH (P10, p = 0.037; P30, p = 0.049) of experimental group significantly decreased after the 4-week intervention. Compared with control group, EG displayed a significantly lower level of the serum cortisol (PRE, p = 0.036; P10, p = 0.031) and ACTH (P30, p = 0.044). Additionally, EG presented significantly higher superoxide dismutase activity level compared with CG at P30 (p = 0.044). The white blood cell of EG decreased significantly (PRE, p = 0.037; P30, p = 0.046) and was significantly lower than CG at P20 (p = 0.01) and P30 (p = 0.003). Conclusion: Four-week tangeretin supplementation can reduce serum cortisol and ACTH, which may ameliorate the cortisol stress response in soccer players during high-intensity resistance exercise training. It can also enhance antioxidant capacity, accelerate the elimination of inflammation throughout the body, and shorten recovery time after high-intensity exercise.

Abstract
To date, the underlying mechanisms involved intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) remain unclear, which has hindered the development of molecular biological therapy for IDD. Autophagy is vital for intracellular quality control and metabolic balance in intervertebral disc cells. Hence, autophagy homeostasis is important. Emerging evidence has implicated vitamin D (VD) and the vitamin D receptor (VDR) in IDD progression because of their effects on different autophagy steps. However, the results of clinical trials in which VD supplementation was assessed as a treatment for IDD are controversial. Furthermore, experimental studies on the interplay between VD/VDR and autophagy are still in their infancy. In view of the significance of the crosstalk between VD/VDR and autophagy components, this review focuses on the latest research on VD/VDR modulation in autophagy and investigates the possible regulatory mechanisms. This article will deepen our understanding of the relationship between VD/VDR and autophagy and suggests novel strategies for IDD prevention and treatment.

Abstract
A simultaneously HPLC detection method for cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid (THCA) in 3 kinds of cosmetics matrix containing hemp leaf extract was developed. The extraction and HPLC conditions were optimized, and a methodological verification was also carried out. The results showed that this method had a good linear relationship in the range of 0.25 - 50 μg/mL with LOD values for 5 cannabinoids all between 0.10 - 0.25 μg/g. The recovery rates of 5 cannabinoids in 3 different cosmetics matrixes were between 90.1 - 108.5%, and the RSD values were all below 4.4%. These results indicated that this method had the advantages of simple operation, high sensitivity, and good accuracy. Through the testing of 6 kinds of hemp cosmetics, it was found that such cosmetics had uneven quality. The establishment of this method can lay a methodological foundation for establishing relevant testing method standards.

Abstract
A two-color homodyne Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) optical fiber interferometer with wavelengths of 1.55 and 1.31 µm was developed for long-time measurement of line-integrated plasma electron density. A novel phase difference demodulation algorithm based on a single 3 × 3 optical coupler was implemented in a two-color optical fiber interferometer scheme for the first time. Our laboratory tests showed that this new optical fiber interferometer could determine the phase shift due to the low-frequency ambient vibration and could maintain high phase resolution measurement. The resolution of the new interferometer was less than 0.04 rad in 1000 s, corresponding to a line-averaged electron density of less than 1.0 × 1019 m-2. Actual plasma discharge experiments performed on KTX-CTI, which is a new compact torus injector (CTI) constructed at the Keda Torus eXperiment (KTX), showed that this interferometer has excellent several-second stability.

Abstract
AIMS Low sperm quality, a crucial factor of male infertility, is becoming a public health issue all over the world. In male reproductive system, autophagy plays an important role in maintaining physiological functions. There exist conjectures that disordered autophagy autophagy might be related to low sperm quality. However, there is no evidence can confirm that. This study aims to investigate the association between autophagy-associated genes and low sperm quality. METHODS Sperm samples of low sperm quality cases and matched controls were included to select differential expressed genes (DE genes) by autophagy-related functional gene microarray analysis. Then, 104 cases and 250 controls were included to validate the expression of four important autophagy genes (CXCR4, ESR1, PTEN and LC3B). Based on the obtained DE gene, gene Ontology and pathway analyses were conducted. RESULTS Chip results showed that expression of all 18 DE genes were decreased in the cases compared to the controls (P < 0.05). Expression of ESR1 were verified to be significantly decreased (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Our results provided clues with the association among down-regulated expression of autophagy regulating and associated genes and low sperm quality. These findings revealed possible role of impaired autophagy in the mechanism of low sperm quality. Moreover, these may also provide potential targets for the treatment of low sperm quality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Measles outbreaks re-emerged in 2013-2014 in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, where measles immunisation coverage is high. The discrepancy between the vaccination coverage and outbreaks indicates that timeliness is crucial, yet there is limited knowledge on the health system barriers to timely vaccination. Using integrated evidence at the household, village clinic, and township hospital levels, this study aimed to identify the determinants of failure in receiving timely measles vaccinations among children in rural Guangxi. METHODS A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling survey with a nested qualitative study was conducted among children aged 18-54 months in Longan, Zhaoping, Wuxuan, and Longlin counties of Guangxi from June to August 2015. The status of timely vaccinations for the first dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) and the second dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV2) was verified via vaccination certificates. Data on household-level factors were collected using structured questionnaires, whereas data on village and township-level factors were obtained through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Determinants of untimely measles vaccinations were identified using multilevel logistic regression models. RESULTS A total of 1216 target children at the household level, 120 villages, and 20 township hospitals were sampled. Children were more likely to have untimely vaccination when their primary guardian had poor vaccination knowledge [MCV1, odds ratio (OR) = 1.72; MCV2, OR = 1.51], had weak confidence in vaccines (MCV1, OR = 1.28-4.58; MCV2, OR = 1.42-3.12), had few practices towards vaccination (MCV1, OR = 12.5; MCV2, OR = 3.70), or had low satisfaction with vaccination service (MCV1, OR = 2.04; MCV2, OR = 2.08). This trend was also observed in children whose village doctor was not involved in routine vaccination service (MCV1, OR = 1.85; MCV2, OR = 2.11) or whose township hospital did not provide vaccination notices (MCV1, OR = 1.64; MCV2, OR = 2.05), vaccination appointment services (MCV1, OR = 2.96; MCV2, OR = 2.74), sufficient and uniformly distributed sessions for routine vaccination (MCV1, OR = 1.28; MCV2, OR = 1.17; MCV1, OR = 2.08), or vaccination service on local market days (MCV1, OR = 2.48). CONCLUSIONS Guardians with poor knowledge, weak beliefs, and little practice towards vaccination; non-involvement of village doctors in routine vaccinations; and inconvenient vaccination services in township hospitals may affect timely measles vaccinations among children in rural China.

Abstract
A combined method of multi-plug filtration cleanup (m-PFC) and liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was established to simultaneously detect 14 pesticides in tea. The pesticides in water-soaked tea were extracted with acetonitrile. Cleanup of tea extract was performed using an m-PFC column packed with multiple cleanup materials: multi-walled carbon nano-tubes (MWCNTs), primary secondary amine (PSA) and anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4). The cleanup effect of the column was evaluated based on the rates of removal of tea components that interfered with pesticide recovery, henceforth referred to as interference components. Results showed that 14 pesticides had strong linearity in the range of 5-500 μg L-1 (r2 > 0.99). The quantitative limits were within the range of 3-50 μg kg-1. The average recoveries of 14 pesticides spiked into three different blank tea samples (green tea, black tea, oolong tea) at three levels of 0.05, 0.50 and 2.00 mg kg-1 were in the range of 62.3-108.8% with relative standard deviations of 0.2-13.6%. The m-PFC method can greatly improve the efficiency of sample pretreatment. Furthermore, this work provides methodological guidance on how to select cleanup materials and allocate their proportions.

Abstract
The wide application of CsPbI3 nanocrystals (NCs) is limited due to their poor phase stability. We reported that Mn2+-CsPbI3 NCs have better optical performance and phase stability. With a suitable Mn/Pb ratio (5.0%), Mn2+-doped α-CsPbI3 NCs exhibited the best stability under UV irradiation, ethanol addition, and heating. Under UV irradiation and addition of ethanol, photoluminescence (PL) intensities of CsPbI3 NCs could be only preserved up to 35% (22 min UV irradiation) and 10% (ethanol addition), respectively, whereas, Mn2+-doped CsPbI3 (5.0%) exhibited much improved stability, and their intensities could be preserved up to 70% (22 min UV) and 58% (ethanol), respectively. It should be noted that crystal-phase stability could be maintained at least 7 h even at 120 °C. We believe that the improved stability in extreme conditions for α-CsPbI3 NCs can be further applied to optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Solanesol is an important pharmaceutical intermediate raw material, mainly used to synthesize coenzyme Q10, vitamin K2. It can be found prominent in potato stems and leaves. But now potato stems and leaves are always abandoned or discarded as they are not suitable for use as feed in aquaculture or other purposes. These agricultural waste resources can be reutilized as the corresponding extracts. OBJECTIVE To develop a simple and standardized method for the detection of total solanesol in potato leaves and its extracts. METHODS N-hexane was chosen as the extraction solvent for three times in the solanesol extraction from potato leaves. HPLC-MS was used for the detection. RESULTS The LOQ was 0.3 µg/g and the linear range was from 0.1 to 50 µg/mL. The precision and stability were evaluated by the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of three samples (potato leaves, Extract-1, Extract-2) for interday and intraday. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by the recoveries of three different spiked concentrations of solanesol for three samples, and results showed it ranged from 80.7% to 99.0% with RSDs less than 8.7%. CONCLUSIONS The method we established can provide a simple and standardized way for the extraction and detection of total solanesol. HIGHLIGHTS The work laid a foundation for the resource reutilization of potato stem and leaf.

Abstract
A five-chord interferometer based on terahertz solid state sources has been successfully installed on the Keda Torus eXperiment (KTX), a reversed field pinch machine. The optical design has been carefully optimized for the uniform distribution of beam light to fully use the limited power source (∼2 mW). By setting the telescopic mirror unit, the beam waist is located in the center of the vacuum vessel and its diameter is in the range of the Rayleigh length. The beam width across the plasma area is improved to ∼20 mm to minimize crosstalk and beam energy loss. After careful beam alignment, the phase noise for each channel can reach 0.004π. The radial profiles of electron density on the KTX are inverted, and density fluctuation associated with instabilities is shown based on the forward-scattering signals.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study is to explore the role of Parkin in intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD) and its mitophagy regulation mechanism. Study design and methods Rat nucleus pulposus (NP) cells were stimulated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to a mimic pathological condition. Apoptosis and mitophagy were assessed by Western blot, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay, and immunofluorescence staining. The CRISPR–dCas9–KRAB system was used to silence the expression of Parkin. Result In this study, we found that Parkin was downregulated in rat NP cells under oxidative stress. In addition, treatment with H2O2 resulted in mitochondrial dysfunction, autophagy inhibition, and a significant increase in the rate of apoptosis of NP cells. Meanwhile, mitophagy inhibition enhanced H2O2-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, repression of Parkin significantly attenuated mitophagy and exacerbated apoptosis. Conclusion These results suggested that Parkin may play a protective role in alleviating the apoptosis of NP cells via mitophagy, and that targeting Parkin may provide a promising therapeutic strategy for the prevention of IDD.

Abstract
The cross-polarization scattering (CPS) system for magnetic fluctuation measurements in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) has been designed and installed. Different from the Doppler reflectometer (DR) system, the CPS system detects the perpendicular polarization of the electromagnetic wave induced by magnetic fluctuations B̃. The CPS system in the EAST has been developed from the existing Doppler reflectometer system, and they are integrated together for simultaneous measurement of magnetic and density fluctuations. Ray-tracing simulations are used to calculate the scattering locations and the wavenumber coverage of the magnetic fluctuation for CPS. In the experiments, the CPS and DR system data were different in Doppler shift, amplitude, and spectrum broadening. In this article, the hardware design, the ray tracing, and the preliminary results of the system in the EAST are presented.

Abstract
A moth-eye nanopatterned hole-transporting layer (ME-HTL) is proposed to enhance the device efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which is fabricated via spontaneous phase separation during spin-coating between poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and poly (9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) induced by their surface energy difference. Meanwhile, film morphology characteristics confirm the conformal deposition of the following organic layers and metal electrode on the ME-HTL, indicating the extension of ME nanostructure over all layers in OLEDs. Finally, owning to the disruption of the internal waveguide light at the organic layer/anode interface and the suppression of surface plasmonic loss at organic layer/cathode interface, this device architecture obtained a current efficiency of 78.9 cd/A, with an enhancement factor of 40%. This approach takes the advantage of manufacturing compatibility on behalf of solution-process and thus can be a promising strategy to reduce the production cost of OLEDs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the clinical value of combined detection of serum soluble epidermal growth factor receptor (sEGFR), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), and human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in the diagnosis of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). PATIENTS AND METHODS From December 2017 to October 2018, the serum samples were obtained from the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, with 30 patients as EOC group, 30 patients with benign ovarian neoplasms as benign group, and 17 healthy subjects as healthy group. Besides, among 30 EOC patients, 9 serum samples were obtained from pre-operative and post-operative EOC patients. The levels of serum sEGFR were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), while CA125 and HE4 were detected by enhanced chemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA). The diagnostic value was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS The levels of serum sEGFR, CA125, and HE4 in EOC group were significantly higher than those in benign group (p<0.05) and healthy group (p<0.05). When using a single tumor marker, the CA125 shows the highest sensitivity (93.30%) and HE4 shows the highest specificity (97.87%). The specificity of combined detection of serum sEGFR, CA125, and HE4 was 100%, which was significantly higher than that using a single tumor marker. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of combined detection of serum sEGFR, CA125, and HE4 (0.965) was much higher than that of the single detection and higher than that of combined detection of CA125 and HE4 (0.940). Moreover, the level of serum sEGFR in post-operative EOC group was significantly lower than that in the corresponding pre-operative EOC group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our study shows that combined detection of serum sEGFR, CA125, and HE4 increases the specificity and efficiency in EOC diagnosis, indicating that sEGFR could be a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of EOC.

Abstract
Compared with pristine agricultural polyethylene (PE) soil films microplastics (MPs), aged agricultural polyethylene (APE) soil films MPs have a rougher surface, more cracks and have some oxygen-containing functional groups that makes them adsorb organic pollutants, such as pesticides more easily. This may be more harmful to human beings than marine MPs as the agricultural soil films are closer to our living environment. But few works focused on the adsorption of pesticides on pristine or aged agricultural polyethylene soil films MPs. In order to promote the risk assessment of co-exposure of pesticides and agricultural polyethylene soil films MPs, a comparative study on the adsorption behavior and mechanism of four pesticides (carbendazim, diflubenzuron, malathion, difenoconazole) by pristine PE MPs and APE MPs were carried out in this paper. The results showed microcracks and surface oxidation observed on APE MPs. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm models indicated that the adsorption capacity of APE MPs was higher than that of PE MPs, which attribute to the larger surface area of APE MPs. The adsorption capacities of pesticides on APE MPs were positively correlated with LogKow (Water octanol partition coefficient) values of these four pesticides, showed the hydrophobic partitioning played the most important part in the adsorption, but also some H-bonding between secondary amines in the molecular of diflubenzuron and polar O-containing functional groups on APE MPs may be formed. And electrostatic forces or interactions are not the determining factor for these pesticides adsorption behavior of PE MPs, and the effect of pH is mainly driven by changes in sorbate properties rather than changes in surface properties of MPs. The results presented herein show the APE MPs can be a better vector of most hydrophobic pesticides than pristine MPs in the agricultural field, and more attention should be paid to the problem of films and pesticides residue in farmland soil.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis (AE) is a common cause of nonviral infectious encephalitis, which can be triggered by herpes simplex virus infection. Previous studies have shown that approximately 27% of herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) patients produce anti-NMDAR antibodies within 3 months. Immunotherapy is recommended in this situation, but some symptoms usually remain in the 1-year follow-up. CASE PRESENTATION A previously healthy 23-year-old Chinese young woman developed epileptic attack followed by psychiatric symptoms of confusion and irritation as well as cognitive deficits. Brain MRI showed hyperintense lesions of the right temporal lobe on DWI and T2 without contrast enhancement effects. Twenty-one days of acyclovir was administered based on the primary diagnosis of HSE. The anti-NMDAR antibody (IgG) was detected positively on day 11 after disease onset. She had improved cognitive function but suffered another grand mal epilepsy after the first course of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy combined with 1000 mg intravenous methylprednisolone. After discussion, another course of IVIG was started for 5 days. Her symptoms were well controlled with only mild cognitive deficits at the 1-year follow-up (mRS = 1). CONCLUSIONS Our case indicated that anti-NMDAR antibodies could develop earlier after HSE compared with previous data from adults. We suggested detecting AE antibodies simultaneously with each CSF analysis. Meanwhile, the second course of IVIG therapy was reasonable when symptoms were not controlled after the first course of IVIG combined with IV steroid treatment.

Abstract
Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) has been widely known as a main contributor to low back pain which has a negative socioeconomic impact worldwide. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small noncoding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression and serve key roles in the ageing process of intervertebral disc. Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process that maintains cellular homeostasis through recycling of nutrients and degradation of damaged or aged cytoplasmic organelles. Autophagy has been proposed as a "double-edged sword" and autophagy dysfunction of IVD cells is considered as a crucial reason of IDD. A rapidly growing number of recent studies demonstrate that both miRNAs and autophagy play important roles in the progression of IDD. Furthermore, accumulated research has indicated that miRNAs target autophagy-related genes and influence the onset and development of IDD. Hence, this review focuses mainly on the current findings regarding the correlations between miRNA, autophagy, and IDD and provides new insights into the role of miRNA-autophagy pathway involved in IDD pathophysiology.

Abstract
Objective: Previous studies suggested that insomnia was associated with an increased risk of cardiocerebral vascular diseases (CVDs) but not clear in different insomnia symptoms. We performed a meta-analysis to investigate the association of individual insomnia symptoms and risk of CVDs. Methods: In this meta-analysis, we systematically searched published articles by using electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, MedLine, and Google Scholar. Studies were enrolled if they indicated clear insomnia symptoms, prospective, and evaluated the association of insomnia symptoms and CVD outcome in adults free of CVDs at baseline. Results: There were seven prospective cohort studies with sample sizes ranging from 2,960 to 487,200 included in this meta-analysis. Mean follow-up duration was 10.6 years. Insomnia symptoms of having difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep (DIS or DMS), non-restorative sleep (NRS), and early morning awakening (EMA) were analyzed in this study. All studies were compared under a random-effects model. NRS, DIS, and DMS were, respectively, related to 16% [hazard ratio (HR) 1.16, 95% CI 1.07-1.24], 22% (HR 1.22, 95% CI 1.06-1.40), and 14% (HR 1.14, 95% CI 1.02-1.27) higher risk of first-ever CVD incidence during the follow-up. Based on our analysis, EMA was not a risk factor of CVDs (HR 1.06, 95% CI 0.99-1.13). Conclusion: This study suggested that symptoms of DIS, DIM, or NRS were associated with a higher risk of CVD incidence in insomnia patients free of CVDs at baseline. But this association was not significant in insomnia patients complaining about EMA.

Abstract
Bacterial leaf steak (BLS) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc) is a devastating disease in rice production. The resistance to BLS in rice is a quantitatively inherited trait, of which the molecular mechanism is still unclear. It has been proved that xa5, a recessive bacterial blast resistance gene, is the most possible candidate gene of the QTL qBlsr5a for BLS resistance. To study the molecular mechanism of xa5 function in BLS resistance, we created transgenic lines with RNAi of Xa5 (LOC_Os05g01710) and used RNA-seq to analyze the transcriptomes of a Xa5-RNAi line and the wild-type line at 9 h after inoculation with Xoc, with the mock inoculation as control. We found that Xa5-RNAi could (1) increase the resistance to BLS as expected from xa5; (2) alter (mainly up-regulate) the expression of hundreds of genes, most of which were related to disease resistance; and (3) greatly enhance the response of thousands of genes to Xoc infection, especially of the genes involved in cell death pathways. The results suggest that xa5 is the cause of BLS-resistance of QTL qBlsr5a and it displays BLS resistance effect probably mainly because of the enhanced response of the cell death-related genes to Xoc infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is widely known as the main contributor to low back pain which has a negative socioeconomic impact worldwide. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to analyze the dataset GSE23130 using bioinformatics methods to identify the pivotal genes and pathways associated with IDD. MATERIAL/METHODS The gene expression data of GSE23130 was downloaded, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were extracted from 8 samples and 15 controls. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses were performed. Also, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed and visualized, followed by identification of hub genes and key module. RESULTS A total of 30 downregulated and 79 upregulated genes were identified. The DEGs were mainly enriched in the regulation of protein catabolic process, extracellular matrix organization, collagen fibril organization, and extracellular structure organization. Meanwhile, we found that most DEGs were primarily enriched in the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The top 10 hub genes were FN1, COL1A2, SPARC, COL3A1, CTGF, LUM, TIMP1, THBS2, COL5A2, and TGFB1. CONCLUSIONS In summary, key candidate genes and pathways were identified by using integrated bioinformatics analysis, which may provide insights into the underlying mechanisms and offer potential target genes for the treatment of IDD.

Abstract
An optical fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer at a wavelength of 1.55 µm has been developed for measurements of high electron density on compact torus (CT) plasmas with a high time resolution of 0.1 µs and high phase resolution of 6.4 × 10-4 rad. To improve density measurement accuracy, the phase noise of the interferometer has been investigated in detail and optimized. In the bench test, the interferometer was calibrated using a piezoelectric ceramic actuator with known stroke. Initial results on CT plasma show that the optical fiber interferometer provides reliable density measurements at two spatial locations and the bulk velocity of plasma can be determined by the method of time of flight.

Abstract
Polyethylene (PE) agricultural soil films are easily embrittled and decomposed to microplastics (MPs) in environment. As widely used pesticides in vegetable farmland, carbendazim, dipterex, diflubenzuron, malathion, difenoconazole have potential environmental and human safety risks. They are often coexisting with MPs in the environment, and may cause consequential pollution to the ecosystem. Studying the adsorption behavior between pesticides and PE agricultural soil films MPs would be helpful for the risk assessment of co-exposure of pesticides and MPs. Herein, a systematic study on batch adsorption experiments was performed to determine the adsorption process of pesticides on MPs, the environmental factors on adsorption capacity were evaluated, and the adsorption mechanisms were discussed. Results suggested that all these five pesticides can adsorb on MPs, especially for diflubenzuron and difenoconazole. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm fitted to the Pseudo-second-order and Freundlich model, respectively, indicating that besides the adsorption onto surface sites, mass transfer and intraparticle diffusion were involved in the adsorption process, and the adsorption process was mostly controlled by physical and chemical interactions. The adsorption amounts of 5 pesticides on PE MPs follow the order of DIF > DIFE > MAL > CAR > DIP with KF correlated positively with octanol-water partition coefficients (LogKow). The thermodynamic study indicates the adsorption of all pesticides as spontaneous and exothermic processes. The results of this study illustrated that PE MPs can be a good carrier of pesticides in agricultural field.

Abstract
The box-plate steel structure residence is a box structure with stiffened steel plates directly used as load-bearing walls and floors. In practical engineering, due to the functional requirements of the building, it is necessary to open door or window openings on the box-plate steel structure walls. To study the seismic performance of the box-plate steel structure with openings system, two three-story single-compartment box-plate steel structures with openings modular units were designed and fabricated according to the 1:3 reduced scale. Through the quasi-static loading test, numerical simulation, and theoretical analysis, the failure process, failure mode, lateral force resistant capacity, and hysteresis performance of the specimens were studied. The impact of the different opening areas and opening position on the seismic performance of the box-plate steel structure was emphatically analyzed. The results of the test indicated that the openings on the steel wall plate would reduce the initial stiffness and the lateral force resistant capacity of the specimen; the destruction of the box-plate steel structure with openings modular unit under the low cyclic loading effect started with the tear in the corner of the openings and ended with the tear in the corner steel wall plate. Then, the finite element analysis (FEA) models were developed to supplement the experimental study, and the comparisons were made between measured and simulated results on load versus displacement relationships and failure modes. On the basis of the stressing mechanism of the box-plate structure modular unit, the calculation equation of the lateral force resistant capacity of the box-plate structure with openings modular unit was put forward. Then, the proved finite element analysis (FEA) models were used for parameter analysis of different influence parameters to verify the proposed calculation equation. The results showed that the proposed calculation equation had high accuracy and could be used as a design basis for practical engineering.
