Abstract
By reacting a 3,6-ditriazolyl-2,5-dihydroxybenzoquinone (H2trz2An) anilato linker with LnIII ions (LnIII = Dy, Tb, Ho), two different series of polymorphs, formulated as [Ln2(trz2An)3(H2O)4] n ·10H2O (DyIII, 1a; TbIII, 2a, HoIII, 3a) and [Ln2(trz2An)3(H2O)4] n ·7H2O (DyIII, 1b, TbIII, 2b, HoIII, 3b) have been obtained. In these series the two DyIII-coordination networks (1a and 1b) and the TbIII-coordination polymer (2b) show a Single Ion Magnet (SIM) behavior. 1-3a MOFs show reversible structural flexibility upon removal of a coordinated water molecule from a distorted hexagonal 2D framework to a distorted 3,6-brickwall rectangular 3D structure in [Ln2(trz2An)3(H2O)2] n ·2H2O (DyIII, 1a_des; TbIII, 2a_des, HoIII, 3a_des) involving shrinkage/expansion of the hexagonal-rectangular networks. Noteworthy, 2b represents the first example of a TbIII-anilate-based coordination polymer showing SIM behaviour to date and the best SIM properties within the polymorphs. Theoretical investigation via ab initio CASSCF calculations supports this behavior, since 2b shows less mixing between the m J states of the ground state among all the studied complexes.

Abstract
Novel heteroleptic anilate-based lanthanide MOFs (LnIII = Tb, Dy, Ho) have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions by the ancillary ligand synthetic strategy. These structurally isomorphous species contain octacoordinated LnIII ions with coordination polyhedra approaching an ideal D2d symmetry, best described by a distorted biaugmented trigonal prismatic C2v geometry. In the whole series, only the Dy-MOF exhibits SMM behaviour.

Abstract
The extensive growth of nuclear power plants has a severe detrimental effect on human health and the surroundings due to the uncontrolled and unfiltered release of radioactive wastes into the environment. One such radioactive waste is 129I which has a fatal effect when released into the air or water bodies. Hence, molecular and ionic iodine capture from multimedia has become an important area of interest in the recent past. This work is aimed at introducing two 2D metal-organic frameworks with a fused cis-decalin conformation, {[Zn2(tpbn)(fdc)2]·6H2O}n (1) and {[Cd2(tpbn)(fdc)2(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (2), synthesized at room temperature utilizing a combination of M(OAc)2·2H2O (M: Zn/Cd), a neutral flexible ligand, tpbn, and a simple commercially available furan dicarboxylate, fdc2-, for the target application. The polarizing nature of the furan moieties and the oxygen rich pores in 1 and 2 facilitate the easy capture of molecular iodine from both the vapor phase and aqueous media with high uptake values. Furthermore, their efficiency was tested for the practical application under real-world conditions using river and seawater. In addition to confirming their recyclability with the retention of structural integrity, the interaction between 1 and 2 with iodine has also been established with experimental and theoretical calculations.

Abstract
We report a method for synthesizing single-molecule magnets through a single-crystal to single-crystal transformation. This process yields two single-molecule magnets with similar triangular Dy3 cores but distinct solvents and space groups achieved via solvent exchange. Magnetic properties reveal that both Dy3 molecules exhibit similar toroidal moments but manifest diverse multiple magnetization dynamic behaviors owing to the spin-lattice coupling influence from different solvent molecules.

Abstract
Besides iron, ironically neodymium (Nd) is the most ubiquitously used metal for magnetic purposes, even among the lanthanides, when it comes to the field of molecular magnetism, yet it ranks among the least studied metals. However, strong apathy towards this magnetic lanthanide means that vital information will be missed, which is required for the advancement of the subject. Herein, we have successfully demonstrated the usefulness of a hexanuclear neodymium complex as a magnetic material, and also in electronic device fabrication. A {NdIII6} cage with an aesthetically pleasing butterfly topology was synthesized using a rather non-conventional N-rich pyridyl-pyrazolyl based ligand. The cage shows single molecule magnet (SMM) properties, with an effective energy barrier, Ueff, value of 3.4 K and relaxation time, τ0, of 3.1 × 10-4 s, originating from an unusual occurrence of metal centres with different coordination environments. Furthermore, magnetic studies reveal significant cyrogenic magnetic cooling, with a magnetic entropy change of 8.28 J kg-1 K-1 at 5 T and 3 K. To the best of our knowledge, the titular compound is the only example of a Nd-complex that exhibits concomitant magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and SMM properties. Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) calculations were carried out to shed light on the origin of the magnetic anisotropy and magnetic relaxation of the compound. The same uniqueness is also true for the first electronic investigation carried out on the Nd complex. The maiden electronic device fabricated using the Nd complex shows an interesting intertwining of electronic and optical features, which contribute towards its improved photosensitized optoelectronic data.

Abstract
The spin-dependent polaron dynamics in organic ferromagnets under driven electric fields are investigated by using the extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model coupled with a nonadiabatic dynamics method. It is found that the spin-down polaron with the same spin orientation as the radicals drifts faster than the spin-up one under the same driven electric field. In an applicable range of driven electric fields, the velocity of the spin-down polaron is about 3.4 times that of the spin-up one. The dynamical property of the polaron with each spin (up or down) is asymmetric upon the reversal of the driven electric fields. The diverse dynamical properties of polarons with specific spins can be attributed to the spin nondegenerate polaron energy levels, the dipole moment generated by the asymmetrical polaron charge distributions and the strong electron-lattice coupling in organic ferromagnets. Our findings are expected to be useful for improving organic ferromagnet based spintronic devices.

Significantly Enhancing the Single-Molecule-Magnet Performance of a Dinuclear Dy(III) Complex by Utilizing an Asymmetric Auxiliary Organic Ligand. Inorg Chem 2021; 60:18739-18752. Abstract
In this work, we employed an asymmetric auxiliary organic ligand (1,1,1-trifluoroacetylacetone, Htfac) to further regulate the magnetic relaxation behavior of series of Dy2 single-molecule magnets (SMMs) with a N1,N3-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)diethylenetriamine (H2L) ligand. Fortunately, an air-stable Dy2 complex, [Dy2(L)2(tfac)2] (1; Htfac = 1,1,1-trifluoroacetylacetone) was obtained at room temperature. A structural analysis indicated that some Dy-O or Dy-N bond lengths for 1 are not in the range of those for the complexes [DyIII2(L)2(acac)2]·2CH2Cl2 (Dy2-acac; Hacac = acetylacetone) and [DyIII2(L)2(hfac)2] (Dy2-hfac; Hhfac = hexafluoroacetylacetone), although the electron-withdrawing ability of tfac- is stronger than that of acac- but weaker than that of hfac-. Additionally, the Dy-O3/O3a (the two O atoms bridged to DyIII ions) bond lengths are also affected by the asymmetrical Htfc ligand. This indicated that the charge distribution of the coordination atoms around DyIII has been modified in 1, which leads to the fine-tuning of the magnetic relaxation behavior of 1. Magnetic studies indicated that the values of effective energy barrier (Ueff) for 1 and its diluted sample (2) are 234.8(3) and 188.0(6) K, respectively, which are both higher than the reported value of 110 K for the complex Dy2-hfac. More interestingly, 1 exhibits a magnetic hysteresis opening when T < 2.5 K at zero field, while the hysteresis loops of 2 are closed at a zero dc field. This discrepancy is due to the weak intramolecular exchange coupling in 2, which cannot overcome the QTM of the single DyIII ion. Ab initio calculations for 1 revealed that the charge distributions of the coordination atoms around DyIII ions were regulated and the intramolecular exchange coupling was indeed improved when the asymmetrical Htfc was employed as a ligand for the synthesis of this kind of Dy2 SMM.

Abstract
Two metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Dy(BDC)(NO3)(DMF)2] n (1, H2BDC = terephthalic acid) and [Dy(BDC)(NO3)] n (1a), were synthesized. The structures of MOFs 1 and 1a are easy to be reversibly transformed into each other by the desorption or adsorption of coordination solvent molecules. Accordingly, their magnetic properties can also be changed reversibly, which realizes our goals of manipulating on/off single-molecule magnet behaviour. MOF 1 behaves as a single-molecule magnet either with or without DC field. Contrarily, no slow magnetic relaxation was observed in 1a both under zero field and applied field.

Abstract
2-Aminoacetophenone (2-AA) is a metabolite produced in large quantities by the pathogenic bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), which is a biomarker for PA in water. State-of-the-art analytical techniques to detect PA usually require expensive instruments and a long analysis time which are not suitable for real-time water quality monitoring, especially for high-quality drinking water. Herein, we reported the application of a europium metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) as a luminescent sensing material, which provides a facile, environmentally friendly and low-cost way for the fast detection of PA in water. Eu-MOF shows a high sensitivity toward 2-AA with a KSV value of 3.563 × 104 M-1, rapid luminescence response in 12 s and high-selectivity and anti-interference ability with the existence of common detection indexes in drinking water owing to the good match of the energy levels of Eu-MOF and 2-AA. A systematical optimization of the sensing conditions to enhance the sensing function of Eu-MOF for 2-AA was discussed in detail, to give fundamentals for the rational design of MOF-based sensing materials.

Abstract
To explore the influences of magnetic interactions on the relaxation dynamics of single-molecule magnets (SMMs) and to understand the relationship between single-ion relaxation and the relaxation of a molecular entity, it is very important to design dinuclear lanthanide-based SMMs with two-step relaxation processes. Here, three Dy2 complexes of compositions [Dy2(L)2(NO3)2(MeOH)2] (1), [Dy2(L)2(NO3)2(EtOH)2] (2), and [Dy2(L)2(NO3)2(DMF)2]·0.5EtOH (3) (H2L = 2-(((2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl)imino)methyl)-4-methoxyphenol) were successfully synthesized via elaborately introducing different terminal solvent ligands. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analyses revealed that complexes 1-3 are isostructural. The two DyIII ions of 1 and 2 both adopt D2d symmetry, while the two DyIII centres of 3 display D2d and D4d symmetries, respectively. The magnetic property studies of 1-3 indicated that all three complexes exhibit single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviours with energy barriers of 104 K for 1, 98.94 K for 2, and 76.28 K and 45.54 K for 3 under zero dc field. The target of assembling Dy2 SMMs with two-step relaxation processes was achieved by gradually increasing the sizes of the terminal solvent ligands. Complex 3 exhibits two-step relaxation processes. Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) calculations were performed on 1-3 to rationalize the observed differences in the magnetic behaviour. It is found that both the angles θ between the magnetic axis and the vector connecting two DyIII ions and the symmetries of DyIII ions are vital factors that affect the energy barriers of 1-3. The high local symmetries of the central metals in 1 and 2 make the complexes act as SMMs with higher energy barriers, while the smaller θ angle and different symmetries of the two DyIII ions render complex 3 as a SMM with a two-step relaxation process. This work demonstrates a new methodology for preparing SMMs with two-step relaxation processes by fine-tuning the terminal solvent ligands.

Abstract
Three novel lanthanide-biradical complexes {[Ln(hfac)3]2(mbisNITPyPh)(H2O)}{[Ln(hfac)3](mbisNITPyPh)}·CHCl3 (1-Gd; 2-Tb; 3-Dy) were successfully achieved by reacting the biradical mbisNITPyPh (5-(3-pyridyl)-1,3-bis(1-oxyl-3'-oxido-4',4',5',5'-tetramethyl-4,5-hydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)benzene) with Ln(hfac)3·2H2O (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate). These Ln-biradical complexes consist of two kinds of spin moieties, namely, dinuclear {[Ln(hfac)3]2(mbisNITPyPh)(H2O)} and mononuclear {[Ln(hfac)3](mbisNITPyPh)}, in which two adjacent dinuclear units are linked by intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving the uncoordinated nitroxide units and the coordinated water molecules of Ln ions, forming a cyclic tetranuclear structure unit. The magnetization study reveals that intramolecular Ln(iii)-coordinated NO ferromagnetic interactions are dominant in the present system. Moreover, the clear frequency dependence of ac magnetic susceptibilities of complex 3-Dy is indicative of slow relaxation of magnetization behavior, indicating its single-molecule magnet nature.

Abstract
The reactions of LnIII ions with a versatile pyridyl-decorated dicarboxylic acid ligand lead to the formation of a series of novel three-dimensional (3D) Ln-MOFs, [Ln3(pta)4(Hpta)(H2O)]·xH2O (Ln = Dy (1), Eu (2), Gd (3), Tb (4), H2pta = 2-(4-pyridyl)-terephthalic acid, x = 6 for 1, 2.5 for 2, 1.5 for 3 and 2 for 4). The Ln3+ ions act as nine-coordinated muffin spheres, linking to each other to generate trinuclear {Ln3(OOC)6N2} SBUs, which are further extended to be interesting 3D topological architectures. To the best of our knowledge, the Dy-MOF exhibits zero-field single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour with the largest effective energy barrier among the previously reported 3D MOF-based Dy-SMMs. The combined analyses of a diluted sample (1@Y) and ab initio calculations demonstrate that the thermally assisted slow relaxation is mainly attributed to the single-ion magnetism. Furthermore, fluorescence measurements reveal that H2pta can sensitize EuIII and TbIII characteristic luminescence.

Abstract
The generation of two types of complexes with different topological connections and completely different structural types merely via the substitution effect is extremely rare, especially for -CH3 and -C2H5 substituents with similar physical and chemical properties. Herein, we used 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde, 1,2-cyclohexanediamine, and Dy(NO3)3·6H2O to react under solvothermal conditions (CH3OH:CH3CN = 1:1) at 80 °C to obtain the butterfly-shaped tetranuclear DyIII cluster [Dy4(L1)4(μ3-O)2(NO3)2] (Dy4, H2L1 = 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-(cyclohexane-1,3-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-methoxyphenol)). The ligand H2L1 was obtained by the Schiff base in situ reaction of 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde and 1,2-cyclohexanediamine. In the Dy4 structure, (L1)2- has two different coordination modes: μ2-η1:η2:η1:η1 and μ4-η1:η2:η1:η1:η2:η1. The four DyIII ions are in two coordination environments: N2O6 (Dy1) and O9 (Dy2). The magnetic testing of cluster Dy4 without the addition of an external field revealed that it exhibited a clear frequency-dependent behavior. We changed 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde to 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde and obtained one case of a hydrogen-bonded helix framework, [DyL2(NO3)3]n·2CH3CN (Dy-HHFs, H2L2 = 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-(cyclohexane-1,3-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-ethoxyphenol)), under the same reaction conditions. The ligand H2L2 was formed by the Schiff base in situ reaction of 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde and 1,2-cyclohexanediamine. All DyIII ions in the Dy-HHFs structure are in the same coordination environment (O9). The twisted S-shaped (L2)2- ligand is linked by a Dy(III) ion to form a spiral chain. The spiral chain is one of the independent units that is interconnected to form Dy-HHFs through three strong hydrogen-bonding interactions. Magnetic studies show that Dy-HHFs exhibits single-ion-magnet behavior (Ueff = 68.59 K and τ0 = 1.10 × 10-7 s, 0 Oe DC field; Ueff = 131.5 K and τ0 = 1.22 × 10-7 s, 800 Oe DC field). Ab initio calculations were performed to interpret the dynamic magnetic performance of Dy-HHFs, and a satisfactory consistency between theory and experiment exists.

Abstract
We report here the synthesis, structure, magnetic and photoluminescent properties of three new bifunctional Schiff-base complexes [Dy(L1 )2 (py)2 ][B(Ph)4 ]⋅py (1), [Dy(L1 )2 Cl(DME)] ⋅ 0.5DME (2) and [Dy(L2 )2 Cl] ⋅ 2.5(C7 H8 ) (3) (HL1 =Phenol, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-6-[[(2-methoxy-5-methylphenyl)imino]methyl]; HL2 =Phenol, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-6-[[(2-methoxyphenyl)imino]methyl]). The coordination environment of the Dy3+ ion and the direction of the anisotropic axis may be controlled by the combination of the substituent groups of the Schiff bases, the nature of the counter-ions (Cl- vs. BPh4 - ) and the coordinative solvent molecules. A zero-field slow relaxation of the magnetization is evidenced for all complexes but strong differences in the relaxation dynamics are observed depending on the Dy3+ site geometry. In this sense, complex 1 exhibits an anisotropy barrier of 472 cm-1 , which may be favourably compared to other related examples due to the shortening of the Dy-O bond in the axial direction. Besides, the three complexes exhibit a ligand-based luminescence making them as bifunctional magneto-luminescent systems.

Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility of NOx-loaded RE-DOBDC (rare earth (RE): Y, Eu, Tb, Yb; DOBDC: 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is unique to the MOF metal center. RE-DOBDC samples were synthesized, activated, and subsequently exposed to humid NOx. Each NOx-loaded MOF was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, and the magnetic characteristics were probed by using a VersaLab vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Lanthanide-containing RE-DOBDC (Eu, Tb, Yb) are paramagnetic with a reduction in paramagnetism upon adsorption of NOx. Y-DOBDC has a diamagnetic moment with a slight reduction upon adsorption of NOx. The magnetic susceptibility of the MOF is determined by the magnetism imparted by the framework metal center. The electronic population of orbitals contributes to determining the extent of magnetism and change with NOx (electron acceptor) adsorption. Eu-DOBDC results in the largest mass magnetization change upon adsorption of NOx due to more available unpaired f electrons. Experimental changes in magnetic moment were supported by density functional theory (DFT) simulations of NOx adsorbed in lanthanide Eu-DOBDC and transition metal Y-DOBDC MOFs.

Abstract
Herein, through a dual-ligand strategy, we report eight isorecticular lanthanide(III) furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) with the general formula {[Ln(2,5-FDA)0.5(Glu)(H2O)2]· xH2O} n [Ln = Sm (1), Eu (2), Gd (3), Tb (4), Dy (5), Ho (6), Er (7), and Yb (8); 2,5-FDA2- = furan-2,5-dicarboxylate and Glu2- = glutarate; x = 0.5 for 1, 2, and 4 and x = 0 for 3 and 5-8], synthesized under solvothermal conditions by using an N, N'-dimethylformamide/H2O mixed solvent system. Crystallographic data reveal that all eight Ln-MOFs 1-8 crystallize in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. All of the MOFs are isostructural as well as isomorphous with distorted monocapped square-antiprismatic geometry around the Ln1 metal center. In Ln-MOFs 1-8, the 2,5-FDA2- and Glu2- ligands exhibit μ2-κ4,η1:η1:η1:η1 and μ3-κ5,η2:η1:η1:η1 coordination modes, respectively. Topologically, assembled Ln-MOFs 1-8 consist of the 2D cem topological type. The designed Ln-MOFs 1-8 are further explored for structure-corroborated density functional theory study. Meanwhile, room temperature photoluminescence properties of Ln-MOFs 2 and 4 and magnetic properties of Ln-MOFs 3 and 5 have been explored in detail. A highly intense, ligand-sensitized, Ln3+ f-f photoluminescence emission is exhibited by Ln-MOFs 2 [Eu3+ (red emission)] and 4 [Tb3+ (green emission)]. Magnetic studies suggest weak antiferro- and ferromagnetic interactions between adjacent GdIII ions in Ln-MOF 3, thereby displaying a large magnetocaloric effect. The magnetic data measured at T = 2 K and Δ H = 30 kOe depict that the -Δ Sm value per unit mass reaches 32.1 J kg-1 K-1, which is larger than most of the GdIII-based complexes reported. The alternating-current susceptibility measurements on Ln-MOF 5 revealed that out-of-phase signals are frequency- and temperature-dependent under both 0 and 2 kOe direct-current fields, thereby suggesting a typical slow magnetic relaxation behavior with two relaxation processes. This is further supported by the Cole-Cole plots at 2.4-6 K.

Magnetic and luminescent coordination networks based on imidazolium salts and lanthanides for sensitive ratiometric thermometry. BEILSTEIN JOURNAL OF NANOTECHNOLOGY 2018; 9:2775-2787. Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of six new lanthanide networks [Ln(L)(ox)(H2O)] with Ln = Eu3+, Gd3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+ and Yb3+ is reported. They were synthesized by solvo-ionothermal reaction of lanthanide nitrate Ln(NO3)3·xH2O with the 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl)imidazolium [HL] ligand and oxalic acid (H2ox) in a water/ethanol solution. The crystal structure of these compounds has been solved on single crystals and the magnetic and luminescent properties have been investigated relying on intrinsic properties of the lanthanide ions. The synthetic strategy has been extended to mixed lanthanide networks leading to four isostructural networks of formula [Tb1- x Eu x (L)(ox)(H2O)] with x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.10. These materials were assessed as luminescent ratiometric thermometers based on the emission intensities of ligand, Tb3+ and Eu3+. The best sensitivities were obtained using the ratio between the emission intensities of Eu3+ (5D0→7F2 transition) and of the ligand as the thermometric parameter. [Tb0.97Eu0.03(L)(ox)(H2O)] was found to be one of the best thermometers among lanthanide-bearing coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks, operative in the physiological range with a maximum sensitivity of 1.38%·K-1 at 340 K.

Abstract
We have designed and synthesized eight isostructural 1D coordination polymers (CPs) with the general formula {[Ln(aapc)3(DMF)]}n [where Ln(iii) = Y (2), La (3), Nd (4), Eu (5), Gd (6), Tb (7), Dy (8), Er (9); and aapc = 3-((anthraquinone-1-yl)amino)propanoate]. These CPs consist of Ln-carboxylate infinite rods in which the bulky anthraquinone scaffolds arise from it in such a way that the resulting supramolecular packing exhibits isolated 1D chains. Solution structures have been corroborated through NMR methods including PGSE and EXSY NMR studies and, due to the presence of lanthanide ions, magnetic and luminescence properties have been studied. Alternating current magnetic measurements of compound 8 show slow relaxation of the magnetization, a characteristic of single molecule magnets (SMMs). The evaluation of solid-state photophysical properties reveals that the aapc scaffold sensitizes lanthanide(iii) based emission of compounds 4-9 both in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) regions at 10 K.

Abstract
Five new homodinuclear lanthanide complexes with the general formula [(acac)4Ln2(L)] (Ln3+ = Dy3+ (1), Tb3+ (2), Ho3+ (3), Er3+ (4), and Gd (5)) were synthesized by one-pot [2 + 2] condensation of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol and 1,3-diaminopropane in the presence of various lanthanide acetylacetonates. The eight-coordinate Ln(iii) centre adopts a slightly distorted square antiprism geometry with D4d symmetry. Theoretical analysis and magnetic measurements reveal that the corresponding Dy complex 1 exhibits slow magnetic relaxation behavior, characteristic of a typical SMM with the intramolecular ferromagnetic Dy3+Dy3+ interaction.
