Self-Assembled Cyclophane-Type Copper(I) Complexes of 2,4,6-Tris(diphenylphosphino)-1,3,5-triazine and Their Catalytic Application

First Example of Cage P4N4-Macrocycle Copper Complexes with Intracavity Location of Unusual Cu2I Fragments

In this study, 28-membered macrocyclic 1,5(1,5)-di(1,5-diaza-3,7-diphosphacyclooctana)-2,4,6,8(1,4)-tetrabenzenacyclooctaphane were synthesized by condensation of pyridinephosphine, paraformaldehyde, and primary diamines (bis(4-aminophenyl)methane or -sulfide. The first representatives of binuclear copper(I) complexes of P,N-containing cyclophanes with two 1,5-diaza-3,7-diphosphacyclooctane rings incorporated into a macrocyclic core and intracavity location of unusual, developed angle Cu₂I moiety were obtained. The structure of one complex was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. The complexation led to a slight distortion of the cyclophane conformations.

Functionalized Triazines and Tetrazines: Synthesis and Applications

The molecules possessing triazine and tetrazine moieties belong to a special class of heterocyclic compounds. Both triazines and tetrazines are building blocks and have provided a new dimension to the design of biologically important organic molecules. Several of their derivatives with fine-tuned electronic properties have been identified as multifunctional, adaptable, switchable, remarkably antifungal, anticancer, antiviral, antitumor, cardiotonic, anti-HIV, analgesic, anti-protozoal, etc. The objective of this review is to comprehensively describe the recent developments in synthesis, coordination properties, and various applications of triazine and tetrazine molecules. The rich literature demonstrates various synthetic routes for a variety of triazines and tetrazines through microwave-assisted, solid-phase, metal-based, [4+2] cycloaddition, and multicomponent one-pot reactions. Synthetic approaches contain linear, angular, and fused triazine and tetrazine heterocycles through a combinatorial method. Notably, the triazines and tetrazines undergo a variety of organic transformations, including electrophilic addition, coupling, nucleophilic displacement, and intramolecular cyclization. The mechanistic aspects of these heterocycles are discussed in a detailed way. The bioorthogonal application of these polyazines with various strained alkenes and alkynes provides a new prospect for investigations in chemical biology. This review systematically encapsulates the recent developments and challenges in the synthesis and possible potential applications of various triazine and tetrazine systems.

Triple the fun: tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based gold(i) complexes for redox-switchable catalysis

The modular syntheses of C₃-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes and their homotrinuclear gold(i) complexes are reported. Choosing the arene core allows fine-tuning of the exact oxidation potentials and thus tailoring of the electrochemical response. The tris[chloridogold(i)] complexes were investigated in the catalytic ring-closing isomerisation of N-(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide, showing cooperative behaviour vs. a mononuclear chloridogold(i) complex. Adding one, two, or three equivalents of 1,1′-diacetylferrocenium[tetrakis(perfluoro-tert-butoxy)aluminate] as an oxidant during the catalytic reaction (in situ) resulted in a distinct, stepwise influence on the resulting catalytic rates. Isolation of the oxidised species is possible, and using them as (pre-)catalysts (ex situ oxidation) confirmed the activity trend. Proving the intactness of the P–Au–Cl motif during oxidation, the tri-oxidised benzene-based complex has been structurally characterised.

Trinuclear gold(i) complexes of C₃-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes with four accessible oxidation states catalyse the ring-closing isomerisation of N-(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide with different rates depending on their redox state.

A Versatile Approach to Access Trimetallic Complexes Based on Trisphosphinite Ligands

A straightforward method for the preparation of trisphosphinite ligands in one step, using only commercially available reagents (1,1,1-tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane and chlorophosphines) is described. We have made use of this approach to prepare a small family of four trisphosphinite ligands of formula [CH3C{(C6H4OR2)3], where R stands for Ph (1a), Xyl (1b, Xyl = 2,6-Me2-C6H3), iPr (1c), and Cy (1d). These polyfunctional phosphinites allowed us to investigate their coordination chemistry towards a range of late transition metal precursors. As such, we report here the isolation and full characterization of a number of Au(I), Ag(I), Cu(I), Ir(III), Rh(III) and Ru(II) homotrimetallic complexes, including the structural characterization by X-ray diffraction studies of six of these compounds. We have observed that the flexibility of these trisphosphinites enables a variety of conformations for the different trimetallic species.

A two-dimensional copper(I) coordination polymer based on 1-[2-(cyclo-hexyl-sulfan-yl)eth-yl]pyridin-2(1H)-one

The reaction of copper(I) iodide with 1-[2-(cyclo-hexyl-sulfan-yl)eth-yl]pyridin-2(1H)-one (L, C13H19NOS) in aceto-nitrile/di-chloro-methane results in a crystalline coordination polymer, namely poly[bis-{μ2-1-[2-(cyclo-hexyl-sulfan-yl)eth-yl]pyridin-2(1H)-one}tetra-μ3-iodido-tetra-copper(I)], [Cu4I4L2] n . The asymmetric unit comprises two ligand mol-ecules, four copper(I) ions and four iodide ions. Inter-estingly, the O atoms are bound to the soft copper(I) ions. The stair-step clusters of Cu and I atoms in the asymmetric unit are linked repeatedly, giving rise to infinite chains along [100]. Neighbouring infinite chains are linked through the L mol-ecules, forming a two-dimensional brick-wall structure. These two-dimensional networks are stacked alternately along [001]. Additionally, there are inter-molecular C-H⋯I hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π inter-actions between the ligands.

Coordination of bis(azol-1-yl)methane-based bisphosphines towards RuII, RhI, PdII and PtII: synthesis, structural and catalytic studies

This paper describes the transition metal chemistry of three bis(X-diphenylphosphino-azol-1-yl)-based bisphosphines: bis(2-Ph₂P-imidazol-1-yl)methane (1), bis(5-Ph₂P-pyrazol-1-yl)methane (2) and bis(5-Ph₂P-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methane (3). These show versatility in their coordination behaviour.

Two Triazole-Based Phosphine Ligands Prepared via Temperature-Mediated Li/H Exchange: Cu(I) and Au(I) Complexes and Structural Studies

The kinetically favored triazole-based phosphine 1-(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole (2, L1) and its thermodynamically preferred isomer, 5-(diphenylphosphino)-1,4-diphenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole (3, L2), were obtained by the temperature-controlled lithiation of 2-bromotriazole followed by the reaction with chlorodiphenylphosphine. The structures of phosphines 2 and 3 were determined by X-ray diffraction. Upon reaction with late transition-metal derivatives (Cu(I), Ag(I), and Au(I)), phosphines 2 and 3 form complexes with monodentate (Cu(I), Ag(I), and Au(I); κ(1)-P), chelate (Cu(I); κ(2)-P,N), bridged bidentate (Cu(I); μ(2)-P,N), and tridentate (Cu(I); μ(2),κ(2)-P,N,N) modes of coordination. Reactions with copper(I) halides produced mono-, di-, and tetranuclear complexes, whereas the reaction of 2 with [Cu(NCCH3)4]BF4 yielded the binuclear complex [Cu2(CH3CN)2{o-Ph2P(C6H4){1,2,3-N3C(Ph)C(H)}-μ-(κ-P,κ-N),κ-N}2](BF4)2 (10) with the ligand acting as a six-electron donor involving phosphorus and two triazole nitrogen atoms. The copper complexes of 2 and 3 containing rhomboid Cu2X2 units, [(Cu)2(μ-X)2{o-Ph2P(C6H4){1,2,3-N3C(Ph)C(H)}-κ-P}2] (4, X = Cl; 5, X = Br), on treatment with 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridine gave mixed-ligand complexes of the type [(CuX)(N∩N-κ(2)-N,N){o-Ph2P(C6H4){1,2,3-N3C(Ph)C(H)}-κ-P}] (N∩N = 1,10-phen and 2,2'-bipy; X = Cl, Br, and I).
