Abstract
Tetranuclear [2 × 2] square-grid-like LnIII clusters have been synthesized by reacting LnCl3·6H2O salts with bis[α-hydroxy(p-bromophenyl)methyl]phosphinic acid [R2PO2H, where R = CH(OH)PhBr] and pivalic acid. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies show the formation of [Me4N]2[Ln4(μ2-η1:η1-PO2R2)8(η2-CO2But)4(μ4-CO3)] [Ln = Er (1), Dy (2), and Tb (3)]. Direct-current studies reveal significant ferromagnetic interactions between DyIII in 2 and TbIII in 3 and an antiferromagnetic interaction between ErIII in 1. Dynamic magnetic susceptibility measurements confirm a single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior in both 0 and 1200 Oe applied magnetic fields for 2. Complexes 2 and 3 show single molecular toroic (SMT) behavior with a mixed magnetic moment.

Abstract
Using the Schiff base ligand H2L-pyra (N'-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)pyrazine-2-carbohydrazonamide) with multiple dentate sites, the trinuclear DyIII-based complex [Dy3(HL-pyra)2(L-pyra)2(CH3COO)3]·2H2O (1) was synthesized. By analyzing the fragmented assembly process and fine-tuning the bridging anions, complex [Dy4(HL-pyra)2(L-pyra)4(NO3)2(H2O)2]·8H2O (2) with different nuclear numbers was successfully synthesized. Magnetic studies demonstrated that 1 did not exhibit magnetic relaxation behavior under the external field; however, 2 exhibited zero-field single-molecule magnetic relaxation behavior with an effective energy barrier (Ueff) of 197.44 K. This is attributed to the improved anisotropy of the single ion after the normalization of the crystal structure, thus realizing the molecular magnetic switching. Moreover, magnetic dilution analysis of 2 demonstrated that the weak magnetic interaction between metal ions inhibited the occurrence of quantum tunneling of magnetization (QTM), resulting in high-performance single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior. The reasons for the magnetic difference between these two complexes were analyzed using ab initio calculation and magneto-structural correlations. This study provides a reasonable prediction of the ideal configuration of the approximately parallelogram DyIII-based SMMs, thus offering an effective approach for synthesizing Dy4 complexes with excellent properties.

Abstract
The triphenylmethane (trityl) group has been recognized as a supramolecular synthon in crystal engineering, molecular machine rotors and stereochemical chirality inductors in materials science. Herein we demonstrate for the first time how it can be utilized in the domain of molecular magnetic materials through shaping of single molecule magnet (SMM) properties within the lanthanide complexes in tandem with other non-covalent interactions. Trityl-appended mono- (HL1 ) and bis-compartmental (HL2 ) hydrazone ligands were synthesized and complexated with Dy(III) and Er(III) triflate and nitrate salts to generate four monometallic (1-4) and two bimetallic (5, 6) complexes. The static and dynamic magnetic properties of 1-6 were investigated, revealing that only ligand HL1 induces assemblies (1-4) capable of showing SMM behaviour, with Dy(III) congeners (1, 2) able to exhibit the phenomenon also under zero field conditions. Theoretical ab initio studies helped in determination of Dy(III) energetic levels, magnetic anisotropic axes and corroborated magnetic relaxation mechanisms to be a combination of Raman and quantum tunnelling in zero dc field, the latter being cancelled in the optimum non-zero dc field. Our work represents the first study of magneto-structural correlations within the trityl Ln-SMMs, leading to generation of slowly relaxing zero-field dysprosium complexes within the hydrogen-bonded assemblies.

Abstract
A new family of low-coordinate mononuclear DyIII single-molecule magnets [(TrapenTMS)Dy(LB)] (Trapen = tris(2-aminobenzyl)amine; TMS = SiMe3; LB = THF 1, pyridine 2, ONMe33) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The five-coordinate DyIII ions exhibit distorted triangular bipyramidal geometries, among the different neutral ligands LB on the apex and the same TrapenTMS ligand, making the pyramid base of the trigonal bipyramid. Magnetic data analysis reveals that 1-3 are characteristic of SMM behaviors without a dc field, accompanying an unambiguous quantum tunneling of magnetization. Under an extra dc field of 500 Oe, field-induced slow magnetic relaxation behaviors occur with Raman and/or QTM processes. Ab initio calculations were also performed to rationalize the observed discrepancy in the magnetic behaviors, and the result illustrates that the SMM behavior could be effectively manipulated by the axial symmetry of the triangular bipyramidal DyIII motifs.

Abstract
Two mononuclear DyIII single-molecule magnets with different ligand substituents located far from the coordinating atoms, [Dy(L-NO2)(NO3)] (1) and [Dy(L-Me)(NO3)] (2), and their diamagnetic-ion diluted analogues, 1' and 2', were structurally and magnetically characterized. 1 and 2 have nearly identical coordination environments of DyIII ions with D2d symmetry but different magnetization dynamics. No Orbach process was observed for 1 and 1' in the testing temperature and frequency range, but effective energy barriers of 575 and 829 K for 2 and 2' were obtained, respectively. The opened hysteresis loops were observed until 6 K for 1 and 10 K for 2. Ab initio calculations reveal that the energy gaps between ground and low-lying excited states of 2 are higher than those of 1 and the relaxation rate through quantum tunneling of magnetization of 2 is lower than that of 1 due to the electronic effect of the axial coordinating oxygen atoms influenced by ligand substitutions.

Abstract
A systematic theoretical study is performed on a group of 16 square antiprism dysprosium single-ion magnets. Based on ab initio calculations, the quantum tunneling of magnetization (QTM) time, i.e., τQTM, and effective barrier of magnetic reversal, Ueff, are theoretically predicted. The theoretical τQTM is able to identify the ones with the longest QTM time with small numerical deviations. Similar results occur with respect to Ueff too. The systems possessing the best single-molecule magnet (SMM) properties here are just the ones having both the longest τQTM and the highest Ueff, from either experiment or theory. Thus, our results suggest the coexistence of long τQTM and high Ueff to be a criterion for high-performance SMMs. Although having its own limits, this criterion is easy to be applied in a large number of systems since both τQTM and Ueff could be predicted by theory with satisfactory efficiency and reliability. Therefore, this concise criterion could provide screened candidates for high-performance SMMs quickly and, hence, ease the burden of further exploration aiming for a higher degree of precision. This screening is important since the further exploration could easily demand tens or even hundreds of ab initio calculations for a single SMM. A semi-quantitative crystal field (CF) analysis is performed and shown here to be capable of indicating the general trends in a more chemically intuitive way. This analysis could help to identify the most important coordinating atoms for both diagonal and non-diagonal CF components. Thus, it could give some direct clues for improving the SMM properties: reducing the distance of the axial atom to the central ion, rotating the axial atom closer to the easy axis or increasing the amount of its negative charge. Correspondingly, opposite operations on the equatorial atom could give the same result.

Abstract
A new mononuclear Dy(iii) complex, with the formula [Dy(Hcpt)3]·2H2O (1), has been successfully prepared via self-assembly between Dy(iii) ions and 2-cyano-N′-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)amido)acetyl (Hcpt) ligand. X-ray diffraction study shows that the Dy(iii) ion is nine-coordinated by three Hcpt ligands with a tridentate chelating mode, leading to an approximately monocapped square-antiprismatic (C4v) geometry. Magnetic data analysis demonstrates that 1 performs field-induced slow magnetic relaxation with a relaxation barrier of 97.90 K, due to the quantum tunneling effect suppressed upon a static dc field of 2000 Oe. To deeply understand the magnetic behaviors, the relaxation mechanisms and magneto-structure relationship are rationally discussed using ab initio calculations as well. Reaction of Dy(iii) ion with tridentate acylhydrazone ligand leads to a field-induced Dy(iii) SIM, of which the magneto-structural correlation is elucidated by the magnetic and theoretical studies.![]()

Abstract
Besides iron, ironically neodymium (Nd) is the most ubiquitously used metal for magnetic purposes, even among the lanthanides, when it comes to the field of molecular magnetism, yet it ranks among the least studied metals. However, strong apathy towards this magnetic lanthanide means that vital information will be missed, which is required for the advancement of the subject. Herein, we have successfully demonstrated the usefulness of a hexanuclear neodymium complex as a magnetic material, and also in electronic device fabrication. A {NdIII6} cage with an aesthetically pleasing butterfly topology was synthesized using a rather non-conventional N-rich pyridyl-pyrazolyl based ligand. The cage shows single molecule magnet (SMM) properties, with an effective energy barrier, Ueff, value of 3.4 K and relaxation time, τ0, of 3.1 × 10-4 s, originating from an unusual occurrence of metal centres with different coordination environments. Furthermore, magnetic studies reveal significant cyrogenic magnetic cooling, with a magnetic entropy change of 8.28 J kg-1 K-1 at 5 T and 3 K. To the best of our knowledge, the titular compound is the only example of a Nd-complex that exhibits concomitant magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and SMM properties. Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) calculations were carried out to shed light on the origin of the magnetic anisotropy and magnetic relaxation of the compound. The same uniqueness is also true for the first electronic investigation carried out on the Nd complex. The maiden electronic device fabricated using the Nd complex shows an interesting intertwining of electronic and optical features, which contribute towards its improved photosensitized optoelectronic data.

Abstract
Electronic effect and geometry distortion of low-symmetry ligand-field on the anisotropy barrier (Ueff) of spin reversal have been compared in three Dy(III) single-ion magnets through the simultaneous binding of chelating ligands. The substitution of N,O-salicylaldoxime by N,N'-1,10-phenanthroline in the distorted triangular-dodecahedronal field sharply decreases the Ueff by 286 K due to an increase in non-preferred transverse anisotropy, while the geometry distortion with CShM = 1.569 went down to 1.376 only lowering the Ueff by 12 K. The co-coordination strategy of heterodonor ligands highlights the importance of ligand-surroundings on the relaxation dynamics.

Abstract
Six Dy(III) single-ion magnets (SIMs) [Dy(n-OMe-bbpen)X] were synthesized by a solvothermal reaction with three positional isomers (ortho, meta, and para) of ligands n-OMe-H2bbpen and dysprosium halides DyX3, (n-OMe-H2bbpen = N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-n-methoxybenzyl)-N,N'-bis(2-methylpyridyl)ethylenediamine; n = 3, X = Cl, 1; n = 3, X = Br, 2; n = 4, X = Cl, 3; n = 4, X = Br, 4; n = 5, X = Cl, 5; n = 5, X = Br, 6). Dynamic magnetic measurements revealed that the six complexes possess notably different effective barriers of magnetic reversal: 872.0 K (1), 1210.1 K (2), 137.9 K (3), 602.6 K (4), 907.0 K (5) and 1216.7 K (6). 6 showed the best performance as SIMs among the six Dy(III) complexes. Moreover, the magnetic hysteresis loops of 6 remained open at 21 K. The crystal structures indicate the switching of local symmetry around Dy(III) ion, aroused by the variation in intermolecular interactions and steric effects. This switch is primarily correlated with the distinction of magnetic properties. In addition, ab initio calculations confirmed that the different electrostatic potential around Dy(III) ion stemming from the electronic effect of the OMe-substituted group is another factor leading to the distinction in magnetic properties. This work warns us that when designing ligands for Dy-SIMs, the effect of positional isomerism on magnetic performance must be considered, which is one of the factors that can easily be overlooked.

Abstract
A hexanuclear heterometallic cluster of composition [Dy2 Co4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 (C2 H5 OH)2 ] ⋅ 2 C2 H5 OH (1) was synthesized by employing a Schiff base 2-(((2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl) imino)methyl)-4-methoxyphenol (H2 L) as ligand and utilizing Dy(NO3 )3 ⋅ 6H2 O and Co(NO3 )2 ⋅ 6H2 O as metal ion sources. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis indicated that complex 1 contains a defect tetracubane core and possesses central symmetric structure, with two DyIII ions being in the central body position of the molecule and four CoII ions being arranged at the outer sites. Magnetic studies reveal that complex 1 behaves as single-molecule magnet (SMM) with energy barrier of 27.50 K. To investigate the individual contribution of DyIII and CoII ions to the SMM behavior, another two complexes of formulae [Dy2 Zn4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 ] ⋅ 4CH3 OH (2) and [Y2 Co4 (L)4 (NO3 )2 (OH)4 (C2 H5 OH)2 ] ⋅ 2 C2 H5 OH (3) were prepared. Complexes 1 and 3 are isomorphous. The coordination geometries of DyIII ions in 1 and 2 are different. The DyIII ions are eight-coordinated in 2 and nine-coordinated in 1. Complex 2 exhibits SMM behavior with energy barrier of 69.67 K, but complex 3 does not display SMM property. These results reveal that the SMM behaviors of 1 and 2 are mainly originated from DyIII ions. It might be the higher symmetry of DyIII ions in 2 that results in the higher energy barrier.

Abstract
Luminescent single-molecule magnets (SMMs) constitute a class of molecular materials offering optical insight into magnetic anisotropy, magnetic switching of emission, and magnetic luminescent thermometry. They are accessible using lanthanide(III) complexes with advanced organic ligands or metalloligands. We present a simple route to luminescent SMMs realized by the insertion of well-known organic cations, tetrabutylammonium and tetraphenylphosphonium, into dysprosium(III) borohydrides, the representatives of metal borohydrides investigated due to their hydrogen storage properties. We report two novel compounds, [n-Bu4N][DyIII(BH4)4] (1) and [Ph4P][DyIII(BH4)4] (2), involving DyIII centers surrounded by four pseudo-tetrahedrally arranged BH4- ions. While 2 has higher symmetry and adopts a tetragonal unit cell (I41/a), 1 crystallizes in a less symmetric monoclinic unit cell (P21/c). They exhibit yellow room-temperature photoluminescence related to the f-f electronic transitions. Moreover, they reveal DyIII-centered magnetic anisotropy generated by the distorted arrangement of four borohydride anions. It leads to field-induced slow magnetic relaxation, well-observed for the magnetically diluted samples, [n-Bu4N][YIII0.9DyIII0.1(BH4)4] (1@Y) and [Ph4P][YIII0.9DyIII0.1(BH4)4] (2@Y). 1@Y exhibits an Orbach-type relaxation with an energy barrier of 26.4(5) K while only the onset of SMM features was found in 2@Y. The more pronounced single-ion anisotropy of DyIII complexes of 1 was confirmed by the results of the ab initio calculations performed for both 1-2 and the highly symmetrical inorganic DyIII borohydrides, α/β-Dy(BH4)3, 3 and 4. The magneto-luminescent character was achieved by the implementation of large organic cations that lower the symmetry of DyIII centers inducing single-ion anisotropy and separate them in the crystal lattice enabling the emission property. These findings are supported by the comparison with 3 and 4, crystalizing in cubic unit cells, which are not emissive and do not exhibit SMM behavior.

Abstract
While assembling superparamagnetic units in a controlled manner is crucial for future applications of molecular nanomagnets, optimizing their magnetic properties while achieving directional assembly of these units still remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we demonstrate how the assembly of two dysprosium chain complexes, namely, [Dy2(L)2Cl2(CH3OH)3]n·nCH3OH (1) and [Dy(L)Cl(DMF)]n (2) (H2L = N'-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)pyrazine-N-oxide-carbohydrazide), can be successfully manipulated using an appropriate bridging ligand design. Both complexes contain similar dimeric units bridged by two alkoxido oxygens from an L2- ligand, but extended by its pyrazine-N-oxide group exhibiting two distinct coordination modes, namely, single and double pyrazine-N-oxide bridges, respectively. Magnetic studies reveal that both complexes display typical slow magnetic relaxation under zero direct-current field; however, the anisotropy barrier and the coercive field at 2 K for complex 2 are twice as much as that of 1. A further theoretical study indicates that switching the coordination mode from a single pyrazine-N-oxide bridge to double bridges can enhance both the magnetic anisotropy of dysprosium ions and magnetic coupling within the dimeric cores. The synergistic effect between the magnetic anisotropy of dysprosium ions and magnetic interactions among them directly contributes to the overall better performance of complex 2.

Abstract
Recent studies have shown that mononuclear lanthanide (Ln) complexes can be high‐performing single‐molecule magnets (SMMs). Recently, there has been an influx of mononuclear Ln alkoxide and aryloxide SMMs, which have provided the necessary geometrical control to improve SMM properties and to allow the intricate relaxation dynamics of Ln SMMs to be studied in detail. Here non‐aqueous Ln alkoxide and aryloxide chemistry applied to the synthesis of low‐coordinate mononuclear Ln SMMs are reviewed. The focus is on mononuclear DyIII alkoxide and aryloxide SMMs with coordination numbers up to eight, covering synthesis, solid‐state structures and magnetic attributes. Brief overviews are also provided of mononuclear TbIII, HoIII, ErIII and YbIII alkoxide and aryloxide SMMs.

Abstract
Guided by the self-assembled process and mechanism, the strategy of in situ Schiff base reaction would be capable of bringing a feasible method to construct and synthesize lanthanide compounds with distinct structures and magnetic properties. A mononuclear Dy(III) compound was synthesized through a multidentate Schiff base ligand and a chelating β-diketonate ligand, which was named as [Dy(L)(bppd)]·CH3OH [1; H2L = N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-formylbenzyl)-N,N'-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)ethylenediamine and bppd = 3-bis(pyridin-2-yl)propane-1,3-dione]. Furthermore, a new binuclear Dy(III) compound, [Dy2(H2Lox)(bppd)3]·8CH3OH [2; H4Lox = N,N'-bis[2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-(hydroxyiminomethyl)benzyl]-N,N'-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)ethylenediamine], was obtained via an in situ synthetic process. Under similar synthetic conditions, [Dy(L)(ctbd)] [3; ctbd = 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4,4-trifluoro-1,3-butanedione] and [Dy2(H2Lox)(ctbd)3]·CH3OH·C4H10O (4) were synthesized by modifying the β-diketonate ligand and in situ Schiff base reaction. Compound 3 is a mononuclear configuration, while compound 4 exhibits a binuclear Dy(III) unit. Therein, formylbenzyl groups of H2L in 1 and 3 were changed to (hydroxyiminomethyl)benzyl groups in 2 and 4, respectively. In isomorphous 2 and 4, two Dy(III) centers are connected through two phenol O- atoms of the H2Lox2- ligand to form a binuclear structure. Eight-coordinated Dy(III) ions with different distortions can be observed in 1-4. The crystals of 1 and 3 suffered dissolution/precipitation to obtain 2 and 4, respectively. The relationship between the structure and magnetism in compounds 1-4 was discussed through the combination of structural, experimental, and theoretical investigations. Especially, the rates of quantum tunneling of magnetization of 1-4 were theoretically predicted and are consistent with the experimental results. For 2 and 4, the theoretically calculated dipolar parameters Jdip are consistent with the experimental observation of weak ferromagnetic coupling.

Abstract
The methylation of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene in the distal 1,3-phenolic sites provides the ligand H2L = {p-tert-butylcalix[4](OMe)2(OH)2arene} that enables construction of heteroleptic mononuclear lanthanide complexes. The reaction of (N(nBu)4)(acac) (Hacac = acetylacetone), MIIICl3 and H2L under Schlenk conditions results in the formation of a family of (N(nBu)4)[MIIIL(acac)2] complexes where M = Y (1), Gd (2), Tb (3) and Dy (4). The metal ions are eight-coordinate in distorted square-antiprismatic coordination geometries, resulting in slow relaxation of the magnetisation for the Tb derivative.

Abstract
The breakthrough in Ln(III)-based SMMs with Schiff base ligands have been occurred for the last decade on account of their magnetic behavior, anisotropy and relaxation pathways. Herein, we review the synthetic strategy, from a structural point of view and magnetic properties of mono, di, tri and polynuclear Ln(III)-based single-molecule magnets mainly with Schiff bases of Salicylaldehyde origin. Special attention has been given to some important breakthroughs that are changing the perspective of this field with a special emphasis on slow magnetic relaxation. An overview of 50 Ln(III)-Schiff base complexes with SMM behavior, covering the period 2008–2020, which have been critical in understanding the magnetic interactions between the Ln(III)-centers, are presented and discussed in detail.

Abstract
Crystal engineering of magnetic relaxation in supramolecular networks based on almost isotropic cyanido-bridged {Mn9[W(CN)8]6L8(solv)8} clusters decorated by bulky 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine (But2bpy) and 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Ph2phen) ligands is presented. The three new compounds {MnII9[WV(CN)8]6(But2bpy)8(MeOH)8}·Pri2O·13MeOH (1), {MnII9[WV(CN)8]6(But2bpy)8(MeOH)6(H2O)2}·4Pri2O·2H2O (1a), and {MnII9[WV(CN)8]6(Ph2phen)8(MeOH)8}·29MeOH·6H2O (2) were characterized structurally and magnetically. Compound 1 exhibits unequivocal domination of repulsive intercluster contacts operating between the side But groups leading to intercluster distances exceeding 10 Å in all three dimensions. Compound 1a reveals a 1-dimensional (1D) supramolecular chain structure with very close intercluster distances of 6.7 Å realized through the direct W-CNHO-Mn hydrogen bonds along the chain, further isolated by the above repulsive ButBut synthons. Compound 2 shows significant separation in all three directions with the intercluster distances close to 10, 12 and 13.5 Å. However, in contrast to 1, these separations are accompanied by indirect hydrogen bond arrays and local π-π interactions of potential to assist in the transfer of weak magnetic interactions. The dc magnetic data show the signature of S = 39/2 in the ground state, which is typical in this group of compounds. The high-spin clusters are accompanied by different intercluster interactions, illustrated by the effective zJ' values of +0.010 cm-1 (1), +0.008 cm-1 (1a) and +0.001 cm-1 (2). The low temperature ac susceptibility measurements revealed a temperature- and field-dependent magnetic relaxation time for all 1, 1a and 2 compounds (τ1, τ1a-fast, and τ2-fast in the range 10-3-10-4 s). In contrast and only in the case of 1a and 2, an additional temperature independent slow process was detected (τ1a-slow and τ2-slow located between 0.1 s and 1 s). The magnetic relaxations were correlated with the obtained supramolecular networks, indicating the significant role of dipolar fields, weak non-covalent interactions, hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions.

Abstract
Heterometallic Ln-Pt complexes, with the formula [Ln2Pt3(H2O)2(SAc)12] (Ln = Ho(1), Er(2); SAc = thioacetate), were synthesized. From natural bond orbital (NBO) and local orbital locator (LOL) analyses and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements, it was clear that the Ln-Pt interactions or electron polarization occurred. Butterfly-type hysteresis was observed for both 1 and 2. 1 and 2 underwent field-induced slow magnetic relaxation up to 4 K. These magnetic properties were induced by Ln-Pt electron polarization.

Abstract
To explore the influences of the subtle structural variations in the ligand backbones on the single-molecule magnetic properties of dinuclear dysprosium(III) complexes, three ligands-H2 L1 (H2 L1 =N1 ,N3 -bis(salicylaldehyde)diethylenetriamine), H2 L2 (H2 L2 =N1 ,N3 -bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)diethylenetriamine), and H2 L3 (H2 L3 =N1 ,N3 -bis(5-chlorosalicyladehyde)diethylenetriamine)-were synthesized and employed to prepare the expected dinuclear dysprosium(III) complexes. The three ligands differ in terms of the substituents at the benzene rings of the salicylaldehyde moieties. The reactions of Dy(NO3 )3 ⋅6 H2 O, pivalic acid, and the ligands H2 L1 , H2 L2 , and H2 L3 generated complexes with the formulae [Dy2 (L1 )2 (piv)2 ] (1), [Dy2 (L2 )2 (piv)2 ] (2), and [Dy2 (L3 )2 (piv)2 ]⋅ 2 MeCN (3), respectively. The purposeful attachment of the functional groups with varied sizes at the benzene rings of the salicylaldehyde backbones resulted in slight differences in the Dy-O-Dy bond angles and the Dy⋅⋅⋅Dy bond lengths in 1-3; consequently, the three complexes exhibited distinct magnetic properties. They all showed slow magnetization relaxation with energy barriers of 40.32 (1), 31.67 (2), and 33.53 K (3). Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) calculations were performed on complexes 1-3 to rationalize the slight discrepancy observed in the magnetic behavior. The calculated results satisfactorily explained the experimental outcomes.

Abstract
Both heteroleptic (phthalocyaninato)(hemiporphyrazinato) and homoleptic bis(hemiporphyrazinato) dysprosium double-decker complexes, Dy[H(Hp)2] (1) and Dy[H(Pc)(Hp)] (2) (H2Pc = metal-free phthalocyanine; H2Hp = metal-free hemiporphyrazine), were designed, synthesized, and structurally characterized. The dysprosium center in both double-deckers are octa-coordinated with a nearly ideal square-antiprismatic coordination geometry, which provides an increased molecular anisotropy for the dysprosium ion and ensures the strengthened magnetic properties of both single-ion magnets (SIMs) in terms of coordination geometry. Magnetic studies reveal that both double-deckers exhibit typical SIM behavior with a spin reversal energy barrier of 80.1 ± 6.3 K for 1 and 57.3 ± 3.8 K for 2 as well as the hysteresis loops emerging at 3 K. In particular, introduction of two Hp ligands with four pyridine nitrogen atoms coordinated with the dysprosium spin center endows Dy[H(Hp)2] (1) with the thus far highest energy barrier among the sandwich-type dysprosium SIMs with N4-macrocyclic ligands, revealing the potential applications of sandwich-type lanthanide complexes with Hp ligands in molecular-based information storage.

Abstract
Mononuclear lanthanide-based single-ion magnets (SIMs) are known since 2003 with the discovery of SIM properties in a bis-(phthalocyaninato)lanthanide complex. A recent report on [Dy(Cpttt)2][BC6F5] indicating that it exhibits the highest known blocking temperature (60 K) has spurred fresh interest in this area. In this article, we discuss about the various requirements of lanthanide-based SIMs along with representative examples. Specifically, we describe the complexes whose coordination numbers vary from 2 to 8. We also discuss the representative examples of organometallic lanthanide complexes that can function as molecular magnets.

Abstract
Five new homodinuclear lanthanide complexes with the general formula [(acac)4Ln2(L)] (Ln3+ = Dy3+ (1), Tb3+ (2), Ho3+ (3), Er3+ (4), and Gd (5)) were synthesized by one-pot [2 + 2] condensation of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol and 1,3-diaminopropane in the presence of various lanthanide acetylacetonates. The eight-coordinate Ln(iii) centre adopts a slightly distorted square antiprism geometry with D4d symmetry. Theoretical analysis and magnetic measurements reveal that the corresponding Dy complex 1 exhibits slow magnetic relaxation behavior, characteristic of a typical SMM with the intramolecular ferromagnetic Dy3+Dy3+ interaction.
