Anion- and Solvent-Induced Single-Crystal-to-Single-Crystal Transformation within an Iron(II) Triazole System: a Promising Luminescent Probe for CrO42– and Cyano-Containing Molecules

Air oxidation-induced single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation of mixed-valence tetranuclear Fe(II)-Fe(III) complexes

A mixed valence tetranuclear iron complex [(Hpmide)Fe^II(NCSe)₂Fe^III(pmide)]₂·5CH₃OH (1) underwent oxidation and ligand exchange in the solid state (H₂pmide = N-(2-pyridylmethyl)iminodiethanol). Upon air oxidation, 1 was converted into [(pmide)Fe^III(NCSe)Fe^III(pmide)]₂(NCSe)₂·2H₂O (2), which was accompanied by deprotonation and ligand exchange through a single crystal-to-single-crystal transformation.

Reversible Structural Transformation and Catalytic Potential of Lanthanide-Azobenzenetetracarboxylates

Inspired by the catalytic potential of lanthanide coordination polymers of 3,3',5,5'-azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid (H₄abtc), two new isostructural [Ln₂^III(Habtc)₂(DMSO)₄]·DMSO·H₂O (Ln^III = Sm^III (I), Eu^III = (II), DMSO = dimethyl sulfoxide) were synthesized and characterized. Their single-crystal structures were elucidated and described. Structural transformations of II in the solid state prompted by ligand substitution and thermal treatment were studied, from which genuine reversible transformation of II to [Eu^III(Habtc)(H₂O)₄]·3H₂O (II') and [Eu^III(Habtc)(H₂O)₂]·2H₂O (II″) was revealed. This illustrates the rare case of reversible transformation in lanthanide coordination polymers. The transformation between II' and II″ was also investigated. Structural transformations among these frameworks are discussed with regard to the coordination environment of Eu^III, coordination modes of Habtc^3-, and similarities and disparities in framework architecture and registration. In addition, the catalytic performance of II with and without the prior activation in CO₂ cycloaddition reaction with epichlorohydrin was studied in comparison with II' and II″. The excellent performance of II disregarding the activation process has been demonstrated with the maximum turnover number and turnover frequency of 7682 and 1921 h^-1, respectively, for the activated II and 7142 and 1786 h^-1, respectively, for the nonactivated II. The maintenance of the catalytic efficiency over 10 cycles of the catalysis and the regeneration process is illustrated and discussed with respect to structural transformation.

SC-SC Anion-Assisted Linker Exchange within a Three-Dimensional Cu(II)-Triazole Framework: A Luminescent Probe for S2

A three-dimensional (3D) binodal 3,5-connected net, {[Cu(MTP)(H2O)](NO3)}n (1) with the Schläfli symbol of {3·72}{32·75·83} can be transformed into a two-dimensional (2D) kagóme network with the Schlafli symbol of {32·62·72} in an irreversible single crystal-single crystal (SC-SC) guest-assisted linker exchange process. The product of this SC-SC represents the first luminescent probe for S2- based on triazole ligand.

Reversible Phase Transition of Porous Coordination Polymers

Porous coordination polymers or metal-organic frameworks with reversible phase-transition behavior possess some attractive properties, and can respond to external stimuli, including physical and chemical stimuli, in a dynamic fashion. Their phase transitions can be triggered by adsorption/desorption of guest molecules, temperature changes, high pressure, light irradiation, and electric fields; these mainly include two types of transitions: crystal-amorphous and crystal-crystal transitions. These types of porous coordination polymers have received much attention because of their interesting properties and potential applications. Herein, reversible phase transition porous coordination polymers are summarized and classified based on different stimuli sources. Corresponding typical examples are then introduced. Finally, examples of their applications in gas separation, chemical sensors, guest molecule encapsulation, and energy storage are also presented.

Ligand-Rearrangement-Induced Transformation from a 3D Supramolecular Network to a Discrete Octanuclear Cluster: A Good Detector for Pb2+ and Cr2O7 2

A three-dimensional supramolecular framework containing both left- and right-handed helixes, {[Zn(TTPA)Cl₂]·1.63H₂O} _n (1), has been converted to a novel octanuclear cluster containing a metal-organic framework, [Zn₈(ptptp)₆Cl₂](ClO₄)₂·4CH₃OH·2H₂O (1b), induced by ligand rearrangement during a solvothermal process. The luminescent properties of 1b indicate that the material can act as a selective probe toward Pb²⁺ and Cr₂O₇ ^2-.

A "turn-on" fluorescent probe for the detection of permanganate in aqueous media

A novel carbazole-based probe was synthesized and found to exhibit fluorescence upon introduction to potassium permanganate in aqueous media. Guided by a series of experimental studies and DFT calculations, the underlying mechanism is proposed to proceed through a series of tandem proton and electron transfer processes.
