Abstract
Although hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has been highly used in nuclear chemistry for more than 75 years, the preparation and literature description of tetravalent actinide peroxides remain surprisingly scarce. A new insight is given in this topic through the synthesis and thorough structural characterization of a new peroxo compound of Pu(IV).

Abstract
Neptunium can exist in multiple oxidation states, including the rare and poorly understood heptavalent form. In this work, we monitored the formation of heptavalent neptunium [Np(VII)O4(OH)2]3- during ozonolysis of aqueous MOH (M=Li, Na, K) solutions using a combined experimental and theoretical approach. All experimental reactions were closely monitored via absorption and vibrational spectroscopy to follow both the oxidation state and the speciation of neptunium guided by the calculated vibrational frequencies for various neptunium species. The mechanism of the reaction partly involves oxidative dissolution of transient Np(VI) oxide/hydroxide solid phases, the identity of which are dependent on the co-precipitating counter-cation Li+/Na+/K+. Additional calculations suggest that the most favorable energetic pathway occurs through the reaction of a [Np(V)O2(OH)4]3- with the hydroxide radical to form [Np(VI)O2(OH)4]2-, followed by an additional oxidation with HO⋅ to create [Np(VII)O4(OH)2]3-.

Abstract
![]()
The concept of oxidation state plays a fundamentally
important
role in defining the chemistry of the elements. In the f block of
the periodic table, well-known oxidation states in compounds of the
lanthanides include 0, +2, +3 and +4, and oxidation states for the
actinides range from +7 to +2. Oxidation state +1 is conspicuous by
its absence from the f-block elements. Here we show that the uranium(II)
metallocene [U(η5-C5iPr5)2] and the uranium(III) metallocene
[IU(η5-C5iPr5)2] can be reduced by potassium graphite
in the presence of 2.2.2-cryptand to the uranium(I) metallocene [U(η5-C5iPr5)2]− (1) (C5iPr5 = pentaisopropylcyclopentadienyl)
as the salt of [K(2.2.2-cryptand)]+. An X-ray crystallographic
study revealed that 1 has a bent metallocene structure,
and theoretical studies and magnetic measurements confirmed that the
electronic ground state of uranium(I) adopts a 5f3(7s/6dz2)1(6dx2–y2/6dxy)1 configuration. The
metal–ligand bonding in 1 consists of contributions
from uranium 5f, 6d, and 7s orbitals, with the 6d orbitals engaging
in weak but non-negligible covalent interactions. Identification of
the oxidation state +1 for uranium expands the range of isolable oxidation
states for the f-block elements and potentially signposts a synthetic
route to this elusive species for other actinides and the lanthanides.

Abstract
In this perspective, we feature recent advances in the field of actinide-containing metal-organic frameworks (An-MOFs) with a main focus on their electronic, catalytic, photophysical, and sorption properties. This discussion deviates from a strictly crystallographic analysis of An-MOFs, reported in several reviews, or synthesis of novel structural motifs, and instead delves into the remarkable potential of An-MOFs for evolving the nuclear waste administration sector. Currently, the An-MOF field is dominated by thorium- and uranium-containing structures, with only a few reports on transuranic frameworks. However, some of the reported properties in the field of An-MOFs foreshadow potential implementation of these materials and are the main focus of this report. Thus, this perspective intends to provide a glimpse into the challenges, triumphs, and future directions of An-MOFs in sectors ranging from the traditional realm of gas sorption and separation to recently emerging areas such as electronics and photophysics.
