Abstract
Tomato is sweet and sour with high nutritional value, and soluble solids content (SSC) is an important indicator of tomato flavor. Due to the different mechanisms of nitrogen uptake and assimilation in plants, exogenous supply of different forms of nitrogen will have different effects on the growth, development, and physiological metabolic processes of tomato, thus affecting the tomato flavor. In this paper, hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technique combined with neural network prediction model was used to predict SSC of tomato under different nitrogen treatments. Competitive adaptive reweighed sampling (CARS) and iterative retained information variable (IRIV) were used to extract the feature wavelengths. Based on the characteristic wavelength, the prediction models of tomato SSC are established by custom convolutional neural network (CNN) model that was constructed and optimized. The results showed that the SSC of tomato was negatively correlated with nitrogen fertilizer concentration. For tomatoes treated with different nitrogen concentrations, the residual predictive deviation (RPD) of CARS-CNN and IRIV-parallel convolutional neural networks (PCNN) reached 1.64 and 1.66, both more than 1.6, indicating good model prediction. This study provides technical support for future online nondestructive testing of tomato quality. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: The CARS-CNN and IRIV-PCNN were the best data processing model. Four customized convolutional neural networks were used for predictive modeling. The CNN model provides more accurate results than conventional methods.

Abstract
Gray mold, caused by Botrytis cinerea is a major cause of post-harvest rot of fresh fruits and vegetables. The utilization of selected microorganisms as biocontrol agents is a promising alternative to effectively control gray mold on tomatoes. The current study was conducted to explore potential biocontrol mechanisms of the Pseudomonas strain to control infections on post-harvest tomatoes. Among the 8 tested bacterial isolates, Pseudomonas protegens ML15 demonstrated antagonistic activity to Botrytis cinerea. Moreover, P. protegens ML15 exhibited the production of siderophores, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, exopolysaccharides, lipase, biosurfactant, 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol, and several other antifungal compounds, such as 1-tetradecanol, cyclododecane, 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol, and 2-methyl-1-hexadecanol. A comprehensive genomic analysis of P. protegens ML15 unravels 18 distinct genetic regions with the potential for biosynthesizing secondary metabolites, known for their pivotal role in biocontrol responses against plant pathogens. In vivo, experiments showed that both culture suspension and cell-free supernatant of P. protegens ML15 significantly reduced fungal growth (53.0 ± 0.63%) and mitigated disease development (52.8 ± 1.5%) in cherry tomatoes at four days post-B. cinerea inoculation. During the infection, the application of P. protegens ML15 resulted in the augmentation of total antioxidant, phenolic content, and ascorbic acids content. Thus, our results suggested that P. protegens ML15's role as a biocontrol agent against B. cinerea-induced postharvest tomato decay achieved through the secretion of antifungal substances, induction of tomato defense responses, and inhibition of mycelial growth of B. cinerea. These findings provide a significant contribution to the ongoing search for alternative, eco-friendly methods of controlling gray mold in fresh products. The utilization of P. protegens ML15 as a biocontrol agent could help to reduce the reliance on chemical fungicides and promote sustainable agriculture practices.

Abstract
Numerous works have demonstrated that cold plasma treatments constitute an effective procedure to accelerate seed germination under nonstress conditions. Evidence also exists about a positive effect of plasmas for germination under environmental stress conditions. For barley seeds, this work studies the influence of cold plasma treatments on the germination rate and initial stages of plant growth in common stress environments, such as drought, salinity, and low-temperature conditions. As a general result, it has been found that the germination rate was higher for plasma-treated than for untreated seeds. Plasma also induced favorable changes in plant and radicle dimensions, which depended on the environment. The obtained results demonstrate that plasma affects the biochemical metabolic chains of seeds and plants, resulting in changes in the concentration of biochemical growing factors, a faster germination, and an initially more robust plant growth, even under stress conditions. These changes in phenotype are accompanied by differences in the concentration of biomarkers such as photosynthetic pigments (chlorophylls a and b and carotenoids), reactive oxygen species, and, particularly, the amino acid proline in the leaves of young plants, with changes that depend on environmental conditions and the application of a plasma treatment. This supports the idea that, rather than an increase in seed water imbibition capacity, there are clear beneficial effects on seedling of plasma treatments.

Abstract
Tomato is a globally important horticultural and economic crop, but its productivity is severely affected by various stresses. Plant small secretory peptides have been identified as crucial mediators in plant resistance. Here, we conducted a comparative transcriptome analysis and identified the prePIP1 gene from Solanum pimpinellifolium (SpprePIP1), as an ortholog of Arabidopsis prePIP1 encoding the precursor protein of PAMP-induced SSP 1. The expression level of SpprePIP1 is transcriptionally induced in tomato upon infection with Phytophthora infestans (P. infestans), the pathogen responsible for late blight. Overexpression of SpprePIP1 resulted in enhanced tomato resistance to P. infestans. In addition, exogenous application of SpPIP1, whether through spraying or irrigation, improved tomato resistance by enhancing the transcript accumulations of pathogenesis-related proteins, as well as reactive oxygen species and the jasmonic acid (JA) levels. Integrated analysis of transcriptomics and metabolomics revealed the potential contributions of JA and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to SpPIP1-induced tomato immunity. Additionally, SpPIP1 may strengthen tomato resistance to salt stress through the ABA signaling pathway. Overall, our findings demonstrate that SpPIP1 positively regulates tomato tolerance to P. infestans and salt stress, making it a potential plant elicitor for crop protection in an environmentally friendly way.
