Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ) is a benzimidazole; owing to its potent antimicrobial properties, TBZ is extensively employed in agriculture as a fungicide and pesticide. However, TBZ poses environmental risks, and excessive exposure to TBZ through various leakage pathways can cause adverse effects in humans. Therefore, a method must be developed for early and sensitive detection of TBZ over a range of concentrations, considering both human and environmental perspectives. In this study, we used silver nanopillar structures (SNPis) and Au@Ag bimetallic nanoparticles (BNPs) to fabricate a BNP@SNPi substrate. This substrate exhibited a broad reaction surface with significantly enhanced surface-enhanced Raman scattering hotspots, demonstrating excellent Raman performance, along with high reproducibility, sensitivity, and selectivity for TBZ detection. Ultimately, the BNP@SNPi substrate successfully detected TBZ across a wide concentration range in samples of tap water, drinking water, juice, and human serum, with respective limits of detection of 146.5, 245.5, 195.6, and 219.4 pM. This study highlights BNP@SNPi as a promising sensor platform for TBZ detection in diverse environments and contributes to environmental monitoring and bioanalytical studies.

Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ), a highly toxic phosphorothioate insecticide commonly used in postharvest fruit management, has the potential to cause detrimental effects on human health as an endocrine disruptor. In this study, an electrochemical sensor was developed to detect TBZ by modifying MoS2 on silver nanowires (Ag NWs@MoS2) and integrating them onto a glassy carbon surface. Cyclic voltammetry revealed that TBZ underwent an irreversible, diffusion-controlled process on Ag NWs@MoS2, leading to a two-fold increase in peak current compared to unmodified MoS2. Square wave voltammetry facilitated TBZ detection, and the sensor exhibited a linear range of 0.05-10 μM with a high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.9958) and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.75 nM (signal-to-noise ratio = 3). The sensor's applicability for food safety monitoring was verified through TBZ analysis in pear and apple samples, achieving recoveries of 95.5-103.6% with RSDs in the range of 1.98-3.25%.

Abstract
For the first time, a modified electrochemical sensor based on carbon paste was developed using biochar derived from the husks of Moringa oleifera pods to detect successfully and simultaneously carbendazim (CBZ) and carbaryl (CBR) pesticides. Biochar was obtained via pyrolysis at 400 °C, which required no additional activation or modification processes. The incorporation of the biochar modifier enabled the preconcentration of both pesticides under open potential circuit conditions, resulting in a significant enhancement in sensitivity compared to bare electrode. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the developed sensor exhibited excellent sensitivity to the target analytes, showing a linear relationship within the concentration range of 0.29-6.00 μM for CBZ and 29.9-502 μM for CBR. The limits of detection were calculated to be 0.12 μM for CBZ and 10.4 μM for CBR. The proposed method demonstrated remarkable selectivity for analytes even in the presence of diverse organic and inorganic species. Furthermore, the method was successfully applied to the determination of CBZ and CBR pesticides in various water matrices, including river, sea, drinking, and groundwater samples, without the need for any sample pretreatment, such as extraction or filtration. The observed recoveries ranged from 87% to 111%, indicating the efficiency and reliability of this method.

Abstract
The cloud point extraction (Tergitol® surfactant) method was used for the first time to extract and preconcentrate the fungicide carbendazim (CBZ) from strawberry samples, while electrochemical detection (boron doped diamond electrode) in association with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-EC) was used for the determination of CBZ. The variables of bath temperature, ultrasonic stirring time, mass of NaCl and amount of surfactant were investigated using a 24 full factorial design. Limits of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) and quantification (LOQ) of 3.42 × 10-8 mol/L (or 6.54 µg/L) and 6.84 × 10-8 mol/L (or 13.1 µg/L), respectively, were obtained for the CPE processes, considering the value of the preconcentration factor obtained (9.12). The method was validated based on linearity, intra-day and inter-day recovery tests, accuracy and precision. The proposed method was applied to strawberry samples from local commercial establishments and different procedures for washing and sanitizing strawberry fruits were also evaluated.

Abstract
A reusable electrochemical glassy carbon electrode (GCE) platform based on the acid-responsive host-guest interaction between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and benzimidazole (BM) derivatives was developed. The β-CD can specifically recognize the BM derivative through the acid -responsive host-guest interaction. The electrode was first modified by eletrografting to immobilize a diamine linker (Boc-EDA), resulting in GCEBoc-EDA in which one amine was used for covalent immobilization to the electrode and another Boc protected amine was used to solid-phase synthesis on following step-by-step modifications on the electrode. After deprotection of the Boc group on the GCEBoc-EDA, carbonyldiimidazole (CDI)-activated β-CD was coupled with -NH2 on the electrode to result in GCEβ-CD. Due to the nonspecific interaction, we further improved the GCEβ-CD electrode by introducing immobilized poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether (PEG-Me) to result in GCEβ-CD/PEG-Me, along with optimized procedures. CV, DPV, and EIS methods were applied for recording the electrochemistry signals. We utilized GCEβ-CD/PEG-Me to investigate the host-guest interaction and found the electrochemical signal exhibited dynamic behavior. The GCEβ-CD/PEG-Me was able to regenerate the β-CD surface more than 20 times after HCl acidic washes. We further investigated the interaction of carbendazim (CBZ), a commonly used fungicide in the agriculture and food industry, and observed a positive electrochemical response. The sensor design has potential applications in ensuring food safety.

Abstract
Nanostructures of graphene were synthesized for electrochemical carbendazim (CBZ) fungicide detection via metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The arduous process of graphene transfer is eliminated by this innovative approach to MOCVD graphene development. It also generates several defects and impurities and ultimately leads to the uniform deposition of graphene on SiO2/Si. SEM, EDX, and ICP-AES were used to assess the morphological properties and chemical composition of the materials. To obtain in-depth knowledge of the entire system, the electrochemical behavior was also investigated using voltammetric techniques and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The interaction of particles of copper with CBZ and the enhanced surface area of graphene, which causes a strong oxidation current, has been demonstrated to achieve the ideal CBZ sensing behavior. The electrode responded linearly at CBZ concentration levels of 1 to 50 nM, and the sensitivity of the sensing materials was estimated to be 0.0337 Ω nM-1. The statistical analysis validates the electrode's exceptional selectivity and remarkable reproducibility in determining CBZ.

Abstract
In this research, two different molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensors were proposed for the determination of tolvaptan (TOL). Photopolymerization (PP) and thermal polymerization (TP) techniques were developed for the determination of TOL. The advantages of MIP were used to design an electrochemical sensor for selective and sensitive determination of TOL. TOL was determined on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for both techniques. Some important parameters affecting the sensor efficiency, such as template/monomer ratio, PP and TP time, drop volume, removal solutions, removal and rebinding time, etc., were optimized. The surface characterization of the proposed MIP-based electrochemical sensors was carried out with electrochemical characterization by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) methods. It was extended with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. Under optimal conditions, the developed sensors showed good linearity between 1.0 × 10-11 M and 1.0 × 10-10 M, and 2.5 × 10-11 M and 2.5 × 10-10 M for PP and TP, respectively. Low detection limits (2.89 × 10-12 M (PP) and 1.88 × 10-13 M (TP)) were also obtained for TOL determination. The applicability of the proposed sensor was evaluated using tablet and commercial human serum samples. Interference and imprinting factor studies verified the selectivity and specificity of the proposed sensors, and the efficiency of the sensors was verified using an unprinted polymer for comparison at each step.

Abstract
Carbendazim is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide that is used to control various fungal diseases in agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. Carbendazim is also used in post-harvest applications to prevent fungal growth on fruits and vegetables during storage and transportation. Carbendazim is regulated in many countries and banned in others, thus, there is a need for the sensing of carbendazim to ensure that high levels are avoided which can result in potential health risks. One approach is the use of electroanalytical sensors which present a rapid, but highly selective and sensitive output, whilst being economical and providing portable sensing platforms to support on-site analysis. In this minireview, we report on the electroanalytical sensing of carbendazim overviewing recent advances, helping to elucidate the electrochemical mechanism and provide conclusions and future perspectives of this field.

Abstract
Thiabendazole, a benzimidazole fungicide, is widely used to prevent yield loss in agricultural land by inhibiting plant diseases derived from fungi. As thiabendazole has a stable benzimidazole ring structure, it remains in the environment for an extended period, and its toxic effects on non-target organisms have been reported, indicating the possibility that it could threaten public health. However, little research has been conducted to elucidate the comprehensive mechanisms of its developmental toxicity. Therefore, we used zebrafish, a representative toxicological model that can predict toxicity in aquatic organisms and mammals, to demonstrate the developmental toxicity of thiabendazole. Various morphological malformations were observed, including decreased body length, eye size, and increased heart and yolk sac edema. Apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and inflammatory response were also triggered by thiabendazole exposure in zebrafish larvae. Furthermore, PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways important for appropriate organogenesis were significantly changed by thiabendazole. These results led to toxicity in various organs and a reduction in the expression of related genes, including cardiovascular toxicity, neurotoxicity, and hepatic and pancreatic toxicity, which were detected in flk1:eGFP, olig2:dsRED, and L-fabp:dsRed;elastase:GFP transgenic zebrafish models, respectively. Overall, this study partly determined the developmental toxicity of thiabendazole in zebrafish and provided evidence of the environmental hazards of this fungicide.

Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ) is a fungicide and anthelmintic drug commonly found in food products. Due to its toxicity and potential carcinogenicity, its determination in various samples is important for public health. Different analytical methods can be used to determine the presence and concentration of TBZ in samples. Liquid chromatography (LC) and its subtypes, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), are the most commonly used methods for TBZ determination representing 19%, 18%, and 18% of the described methods, respectively. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and fluorimetry are two more methods widely used for TBZ determination, representing 13% and 12% of the described methods, respectively. In this review, a number of methods for TBZ determination are described, but due to their limitations, there is a high potential for the further improvement and development of each method in order to obtain a simple, precise, and accurate method that can be used for routine analysis.

Abstract
Abuse of carbendazim (CBZ) leaves excessive pesticide residues on agricultural products, which endangers human health because of the residues' high concentrations. Hence, a composite consisting of functionalized carbon nanofibers (f-CNF) with neodymium oxide (Nd2O3) was fabricated to monitor CBZ at trace levels. The Nd2O3/f-CNF composite-modified electrode displays higher electro-oxidation ability towards CBZ than Nd2O3 and f-CNF-modified electrodes. The combined unique properties of Nd2O3 and f-CNF result in a substantial specific surface area, superior structural stability, and excellent electrocatalytic activity of the composite yielding enhanced sensitivity to detecting CBZ with a detection limit of 4.3 nM. Also, the fabricated sensor electrode can detect CBZ in the linear concentration range of up to 243.0 μM with high selectivity, appropriate reproducibility, and stability. A demonstration of the sensing capability of CBZ in vegetables, water, and soil samples was reported paving the way for its use in practical applications.

Abstract
The toxicity of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) is one of the most common threats to the environment; therefore, developing a simple and sensitive analytical method to detect 4-NP is crucial. In this study, we prepared the Nd(OH)3/VSe2 nanocomposite using the simple hydrothermally assisted ultrasonication method and it was used to detect the 4-NP. Different characterization techniques were used to investigate the morphological and chemical compositions of Nd(OH)3/VSe2 nanocomposite. All of these investigations revealed that Nd(OH)3 nanoparticles were finely dispersed on the surface of the VSe2 nanosheet. The electrical conductivity of our prepared samples was evaluated by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopic technique. The CV and DPV methods were used to explore the electrochemical activity of 4-NP at the Nd(OH)3/VSe2/GCE sensor which exhibited a wide linear range (0.001 to 640 µM), low limit of detection (0.008 µM), and good sensitivity (0.41 µA µM-1 cm-2), respectively. Additionally, Nd(OH)3/VSe2/GCE sensor was tested in water samples for the detection of 4-NP, which exhibited good recovery results. The Nd(OH)3/VSe2 electrode material is a novel one for the electrochemical sensor field, and the obtained overall results also proved that our proposed material is an active material for sensor applications.

Abstract
Herein, an electrochemical sensor based on samarium oxide anchored, reduced graphene oxide (Sm2O3/RGO) nanocomposite was developed for the rapid detection of carbendazim (CBZ). Different characterization methods were infused to deeply examine the morphology, composition, and elemental state of Sm2O3/RGO nanocomposite. The Sm2O3/RGO modified electrode exhibits an excellent electro-catalytic performance toward CBZ detection with a peak potential of +1.04 V in phosphate buffer solution (pH 3.0), which is superior to the RGO-, Sm2O3- and bare- electrodes. This remarkable activity can be credited to the synergetic effect generated by the robust interaction between Sm2O3 and RGO, resulting in a well-enhanced electrochemical sensing ability. Impressively, the fabricated sensor shows improved electrochemical performance in terms of the wide working range, detection limit, and strong sensitivity. On a peculiar note, the electrochemical sensing performances of CBZ detection based on Sm2O3/RGO nanocomposite demonstrate an extraordinary behavior compared to the prior documented electro-catalyst. In addition, the fabricated Sm2O3/RGO sensor also displays good operational stability, reproducibility, and repeatability towards the detection of CBZ. Furthermore, it was successfully applied to the CBZ detection in food and environmental water samples with satisfactory recovery. In accordance with our research findings, the Sm2O3/RGO nanocomposite could be used as an electro-active material for effectual electrochemical sensing of food and environmental pollutants.

Abstract
The indispensable usage of pesticides for the control and prevention of pests is probable and includes several types based on the problems in the crops. Among them, fungicides, are one problem-solving agent curing fungal developments. the disproportionate use of fungicides will lead to environmental deterioration and several health issues. The assessment of such fungicides is highly motivated to be detected. Under the class of two-dimensional materials, graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) with high surface area and high electrocatalytic activity was chosen as electrode material. The efficiency of GCN was improved with the subsequent substitution of selenium (Se) into the triazine ring as Se-GCN. The structural and surface analysis was done and the layered structure was proved. The electrochemical detection of CBM showed a lower detection limit at 6 nM with a linear range 0.099 μM-346.9 μM while, the absorption studies showed a LOD of 20 nM with a linear range of 0.099 μM-182.09 μM. The orange juice and vegetable extract samples had good recovery with CBM at Se-GCN modified disposable screen-printed electrode. The developed disposable electrode was more sensitive with 6.45 μAμM-1cm2 sensitivity and highly reactive with CBM. Moreover, the developed sensor will be more effective in sensing applications to avoid the menace generated by several agents.

Abstract
Incorporating new pollutants and environmental pollution has become a formidable issue as new pollutants are introduced into it and have become a significant concern in recent years. Detection of such pollutants needs a susceptible, selective, and cost-effective sensor that can sense their presence and quantify them at a trace level. In the present study, we have designed a 2D graphene oxide (GO)-based glassy carbon electrode (GCE) electrochemical sensor (GO/GCE) and utilized it as a sensing material for the detection and determination of CRZ. The voltammetric behavior of CRZ was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The SWV was applied to quantify and analyze CRZ in actual samples. A better response of CRZ was noticed at GO/GCE when phosphate buffer solution of pH 4.2 was used as a supporting electrolyte for to experiment. The SWV technique achieved trace-level detection of CRZ. A linearity plot was obtained for the concentration range of 1.0 × 10-7 M to 2.5 × 10-4 M with a limit of detection of 1.38 × 10-8 M. The selectivity of the modified sensor was verified by the interference study of metal ions and other pesticides with CRZ. The agricultural and environmental significance of the developed method was successfully tested by estimating CRZ in water and soil samples.

Abstract
Extensively employed pesticide in agriculture causes residue in food products that would threaten public health safety. The surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) signal reliant on double sensing of carbendazim and thiabendazole in a single step is achieved without the aid of any bio-recognition element. A label-free anisotropic bimetallic hollow Au/Ag nanostars (HAu/Ag NS) SERS substrate was synthesized with numerous hot spots for Raman molecule through a galvanic displacement-free deposition. The individual and mixed analyte calibration results were compared based on the identified peak at 1224 (carbendazim) and 778 (thiabendazole) cm-1 and exhibited insignificant differences. The sensor could detect carbendazim and thiabendazole up to 4.28 × 10-4 and 6.04 × 10-4 µg·g-1 or µg·mL-1 in both individual and mixture of their extract. The recovery for accuracy and precision analysis was 91.54-98.26 % in rice and water. Finally, validation results were achieved satisfactorily (p > 0.05) with HPLC.

Abstract
A dual-fluorescence lab-on-fiber biosensor was developed for the rapid and simultaneous on-site determination of acetamiprid and fipronil, based on time-resolved effect and indirect competitive immunoassay principle. The optical fiber modified with two hapten-protein conjugates serves as a bifunctional bio-probe. The dual-color fluorescent reporters were prepared via labeling acetamiprid and fipronil antibodies with Cy5.5 and Alexa Fluor 555, which were excited at 635-nm and 520-nm laser wavelengths, respectively. In the presence of targets, the binding sites of corresponding antibodies were occupied and less antibodies were connected to the probe surface, resulting in the reduction of fluorescence signal. The concentration of acetamiprid and fipronil was determined by measuring the fluorescence signals at 568 nm and 702 nm (emission wavelengths), respectively. Under optimal conditions, the linear response range was 14.2-225.4 ng/L for acetamiprid and 25.1-162.8 ng/L for fipronil, and the limit of detection was 6.51 ng/L and 17.8 ng/L for acetamiprid and fipronil, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the simultaneous detection of acetamiprid and fipronil in three environmental samples, and the recoveries were between 90 and 128%. The dual-fluorescence lab-on-fiber biosensor provides a feasible platform for simultaneous and rapid detection of multiple pesticide residues. A dual-fluorescence lab-on-fiber biosensor was developed for the rapid and simultaneous on-site determination of acetamiprid and fipronil. A bifunctional bio-probe was prepared from the optical fiber modified with two hapten-protein conjugates. Acetamiprid and fipronil antibodies were labeled with different fluorophores and used as dual-color fluorescent reporters.

Abstract
This review presents recent advances in the non-enzymatic electrochemical detection and quantification of pesticides, focusing on the use of nanomaterial-based electrode modifiers and their corresponding analytical response. The use of bare glassy carbon electrodes, carbon paste electrodes, screen-printed electrodes, and other electrodes in this research area is presented. The sensors were modified with single nanomaterials, a binary composite, or triple and multiple nanocomposites applied to the electrodes’ surfaces using various application techniques. Regardless of the type of electrode used and the class of pesticides analysed, carbon-based nanomaterials, metal, and metal oxide nanoparticles are investigated mainly for electrochemical analysis because they have a high surface-to-volume ratio and, thus, a large effective area, high conductivity, and (electro)-chemical stability. This work demonstrates the progress made in recent years in the non-enzymatic electrochemical analysis of pesticides. The need for simultaneous detection of multiple pesticides with high sensitivity, low limit of detection, high precision, and high accuracy remains a challenge in analytical chemistry.

Abstract
Although biomimetic surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate which makes use of naturally existing raw materials have been fully utilized, it remains challenging to achieve credible quantitative detection. Herein, nanoimprint technology was exploited to engineer internal standard (IS) enabled quantitative flexible biomimetic SERS substrates, in which polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with intrinsic Raman signal was utilized as a tool to reversely duplicate surface structures from different agriculture products and then deposited with Ag nanoparticles. The resultant four kinds of biomimetic SERS substrates with different surface geometries all permit highly sensitive assay with enhancement factors (EFs) of about 106 in both drop-dry and in situ SERS detection modes. Moreover, the quantitative degree in the SERS detection was effectively corrected based on the IS strategy. Finally, an ingenious interactive in situ SERS detection was conducted. Interestingly, the maximum recovery rate was achieved when the template food was used as target surface compared with other foods, indicating the significance of manufacturing the highly conformed SERS-active structure from the surface to be tested. The proposed quantitative biomimetic SERS substrate is expected to be widely used in the field of biochemical supervision.

Abstract
The widespread use of methyl parathion (MP) and carbendazim (CBZ) as pesticide molecules for controlling pests and protect crops has added pollution issues; excess usage of these can lead to atmospheric pollution through contaminating water and soil sources. In the present study, detection of these compounds at the trace level was achieved by employing graphene oxide (GO) and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanohybrid electrode assembly (GO/g-C3N4/GCE). The X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) techniques were also used to characterize the materials developed to reveal their purity, crystal structure, and morphology. The complete voltammetric behavior of these analytes was investigated using cyclic voltammetic (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The influence of pH was studied and it was noticed that electrochemical response was the highest at pH 7.0 for MP and at pH 4.2 for CBZ. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations could help us to understand the adsorption behavior of MP and CBZ onto the GO and g-C3N4 before their degradation due to the electrochemical reactions. SWV technique was helpful in the trace level detection of MP and CBZ. Linearity plots were obtained in the range of concentration from 8.0 × 10-8 M to 1.0 × 10-4 M with a limit of detection 0.824 nM for MP and 1.0 × 10-8 M to 2.5 × 10-4 M for CBZ with the detection limit of 2.82 nM. Significance of the developed method in the field of agricultural and environmental domains was successfully investigated by monitoring MP and CBZ in water and soil samples, and the obtained results suggested the selectivity, stability, and reproducibility of the newly developed GO/g-C3N4/GCE electrode assembly.

Abstract
Carbendazim (CBZ) abuse always causes the over-standard of pesticide residues in agricultural products, which has adverse effects on human health. Herein, a novel electrochemical sensor was firstly fabricated based on the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) functionalized carbon nanosheets@carbon nanotubes (CNS@CNT) for the CBZ determination. CNS@CNT combined large surface area of CNS and excellent electrical conductivity of CNT, which significantly enhanced the electrocatalytic performance. Moreover, β-CD possessed excellent host-gest supramolecular recognition ability, which could improve the selective recognition and enrichment capability of CBZ. Thanks to the synergistic interaction of CNS@CNT and β-CD, the β-CD/CNS@CNT/GCE sensor exhibited a low limit of detection of 9.4 nM in the linear CBZ concentration range of 0.03-30 μM. The fabricated sensor presented favorable stability, high sensitivity (30.86 μA μM-1 cm-2), and reliable reproducibility (RSD = 3.6%). Especially, the β-CD/CNS@CNT/GCE sensor could show pretty practical feasibility for the detection of CBZ in apple juice with recoveries of 97.1%-99.4%.

Abstract
In this study, we developed a portable electrochemical sensor for realizing the pesticide residue in biological, environmental, and vegetable samples. A lower concentration of carbendazim pesticide (CBZ) was electrochemically exposed by newly developed gadolinium oxide/functionalized carbon nanosphere modified glassy carbon electrode (Gd2O3/f-CNS/GCE). The Gd2O3/f-CNS composite was prepared by two-pot ultrasonic-assisted co-precipitation method and characterized by various physicochemical analytical techniques. In addition, the electrocatalytic activity of the composite was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) towards the detection of CBZ. Besides, the Gd2O3/f-CNS/GCE exhibited excellent electrocatalytic capability and sensitivity towards the oxidation of CBZ due to its high electrochemical active surface area, good conductivity, and fast electron transfer ability. A wide linear range of CBZ (0.5-552 μM) was attained with a low level of detection (LOD) of 0.009 μM L-1 and exceptional stability of 93.41%. The proposed sensor exemplifies practical feasibility in blood serum, water, and vegetable samples with an remarkable recovery range of 96.27-99.44% and primary current response of ∼91% after 15 days.

Abstract
A nanocomposite of rGO/MXene-Pd/rGO with hierarchical structure based on Ti3C2Tx MXene, Pd nanoparticles, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was synthesized by a green approach. Ti3C2Tx MXene decorated with Pd nanoparticles (MXene-Pd) was prepared first. Then, graphene oxide (GO), MXene-Pd, and GO were coated on the surface of the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in sequence. After each coating of the GO layer, the GO nanosheets were reduced to rGO electrochemically. The fabricated rGO/MXene-Pd/rGO hierarchical framework performs a pie structure with MXene-Pd as the stuffing and rGO nanosheets as the crust, which will be beneficial to the enhancement of its electrochemical sensing performance. As compared with other electrodes, the rGO/MXene-Pd/rGO/GCE exhibited higher electrocatalytic activity and better sensing performance for luteolin detection, with a wide linear range of 6.0 × 10-10 to 8 × 10-7 M and 1.0 × 10-6 to 1.0 × 10-5 M (oxidation peak potential Epa = 0.34 V vs. SCE), a low detection limit of 2.0 × 10-10 M, and a high sensitivity of 112.72 µA µM-1 cm-2. Moreover, the fabricated sensor also showed high selectivity, reproducibility, and repeatability toward the detection of luteolin. The real sample analysis for luteolin in honeysuckle was successfully carried out by rGO/MXene-Pd/rGO and verified with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis techniques with acceptable results. All the above tests indicate the promising application prospect of the rGO/MXene-Pd/rGO framework for luteolin detection in honeysuckle and other herbs containing luteolin.

Abstract
Citrus is a highly consumed fruit worldwide. However, the excessive use of thiabendazole (TBZ) pesticides during citrus cultivation poses a health risk to people. Hence, a rapid and quantitative method has been established for TBZ determination in citrus by coupling gold nanorods (Au NRs) based surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) coupling chemometrics. The results show that support vector machine (SVM) can distinguish TBZ residues of different orders of magnitude with 99.1667% accuracy and that genetic algorithm-partial least squares (GA-PLS) had the best performance in the quantitative prediction of TBZ residues (Rp2 = 0.9737, RMSEP = 0.1179 and RPD = 5.85) in citrus. The limit of detection (LOD) was 0.33 μg mL-1. Furthermore, the proposed method was validated by a standard HPLC method using t-test with no significant difference. Therefore, the proposed Au NRs-based SERS technique can be used for the rapid quantitative analysis of TBZ residues in citrus.

Abstract
Excessive use of pesticides in modern agriculture results in large amounts of pesticide residues in agricultural production, greatly threatening human health. Herein, novel two-dimensional leaf-like zeolitic imidazolate framework-L decorated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs/ZIF-L) was prepared by a facile solvent way and exploited as electrode material for sensitive electrochemical sensing of thiabendazole (TBZ). Two-dimensional ZIF-L presents high surface area, large pore volume, and abundant active sites, which exhibits high enrichment ability towards TBZ molecules, while the MWCNTs interspersed on ZIF-L can prominently enhance the electron transport capability and improve the electrocatalytic activity for TBZ oxidation. Due to the intriguing synergy between the components, the MWCNTs/ZIF-L-based electrochemical sensor reveals a limit of detection (LOD) of 6.0 nmol·L-1, which is lower than that reported in most literatures. Additionally, satisfactory reproducibility and repeatability, long-term stability, and excellent selectivity are acquired. The proposed method was also applied for the detection of TBZ in apple and orange samples with acceptable recoveries.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been extensively used as modified materials of electrochemical sensors in the food industry and agricultural system. In this work, two kinds of copper-based MOFs (Cu-MOFs) with a two dimensional (2D) sheet-like structure and three dimensional (3D) octahedral structure for H2O2 detection were synthesized and compared. The synthesized 2D and 3D Cu-MOFs were modified on the glassy carbon electrode to fabricate electrochemical sensors, respectively. The sensor with 3D Cu-MOF modification (HKUST-1/GCE) presented better electrocatalytic performance than the 2D Cu-MOF modified sensor in H2O2 reduction. Under optimal conditions, the prepared sensor displayed two wide linear ranges of 2 μM-3 mM and 3-25 mM and a low detection limit of 0.68 μM. In addition, the 3D Cu-MOF sensor exhibited good selectivity and stability. Furthermore, the prepared HKUST-1/GCE was used for the detection of H2O2 in milk samples with a high recovery rate, indicating great potential and applicability for the detection of substances in food samples. This work provides a convenient, practical, and low-cost route for analysis and extends the application range of MOFs in the food industry, agricultural and environmental systems, and even in the medical field.

Fast and Sensitive Determination of the Fungicide Carbendazim in Fruit Juices with an Immunosensor Based on White Light Reflectance Spectroscopy. BIOSENSORS-BASEL 2021; 11:bios11050153. Abstract
Carbendazim is a systemic benzimidazole-type fungicide with broad-spectrum activity against fungi that undermine food products safety and quality. Despite its effectiveness, carbendazim constitutes a major environmental pollutant, being hazardous to both humans and animals. Therefore, fast and reliable determination of carbendazim levels in water, soil, and food samples is of high importance for both food industry and public health. Herein, an optical biosensor based on white light reflectance spectroscopy (WLRS) for fast and sensitive determination of carbendazim in fruit juices is presented. The transducer is a Si/SiO2 chip functionalized with a benzimidazole conjugate, and determination is based on a competitive immunoassay format. Thus, for the assay, a mixture of an in-house developed rabbit polyclonal anti-carbendazim antibody with the standards or samples is pumped over the chip, followed by biotinylated secondary antibody and streptavidin. The WLRS platform allows for real-time monitoring of biomolecular interactions carried out onto the Si/SiO2 chip by transforming the shift in the reflected interference spectrum caused by the immunoreaction to effective biomolecular adlayer thickness. The sensor is able to detect 20 ng/mL of carbendazim in fruit juices with high accuracy and precision (intra- and inter-assay CVs ≤ 6.9% and ≤9.4%, respectively) in less than 30 min, applying a simple sample treatment that alleviates any "matrix-effect" on the assay results and a 60 min preincubation step for improving assay sensitivity. Excellent analytical characteristics and short analysis time along with its small size render the proposed WLRS immunosensor ideal for future on-the-spot determination of carbendazim in food and environmental samples.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel ratiometric electrochemical sensor for carbendazim (CBZ) detection was constructed by a composite of MXene@Ag nanoclusters and amino-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MXene@AgNCs/NH2-MWCNTs). The Ag nanoclusters (AgNCs) embedded in the MXene not only could inhibit the aggregation of MXene flakes and enhance the electrocatalytic ability, but also serve as an internal reference probe for the ratiometric electrochemical detection. Moreover, the introduction of NH2-MWCNTs can further improve the electrochemical signals of CBZ and Ag, resulting in the enhanced signal amplification and higher sensitivity. Based on these characteristics of the MXene@AgNCs/NH2-MWCNTs composite, the proposed sensor exhibits a favorable linear relationship between ICBZ/IAgNCs and the concentration of CBZ ranging from 0.3 nM to 10 μM and a low limit of detection of 0.1 nM. Moreover, the proposed ratiometric electrochemical sensing platform also demonstrates high selectivity, good reproducibility, secular stability, and satisfactory applicability in vegetable samples.

Abstract
Benzimidazoles, commonly used as pesticides and veterinary drugs, have posed a threat to human health and the environment due to unreasonable use and lack of valid regulation. Therefore, an up-to-date and comprehensive summary of the pretreatment and analytical approaches in different substrates is urgently needed. The present review consequently updates and covers various newly developed pretreatment methods (e.g., cationic micellar precipitation, magnetic-solid phase extraction, hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction, disperse liquid-liquid microextraction-solidified floating organic drop, stir cake sorptive extraction, solid phase microextraction method, QuEChERS, and molecular imprinted polymer-based methods) since 2005. The review also elaborates and discusses different determination methods (e.g., newly developed HPLC and related methods, improved spectrofluorimetry methods, capillary electrophoresis, and the electrochemical sensor). Furthermore, some critical points and prospects are highlighted, to describe the trends in this area.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) with fast and intuitive property has been extensively utilized in the field of food safety. Here, we demonstrated a novel noble metal-polymer hybrid film as a SERS substrate for food fungicide analysis. Benefiting from its transparency and flexibility, poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) film was chosen as a versatile supporting matrix to grow gold nanobushes (Au NBs) through a seed-mediated process. The as-prepared AuNB-PDMS hybrid film performed satisfactorily in testing 4-nitrothiophenol (4NTP) and exhibited an enhancement factor (EF) of 2.56 × 106. Moreover, the high sensitivity and elastic properties make the hybrid film a promising substrate in practical detection. Hence, the in situ sensing of TBZ, carbaryl, and their mixture was finally realized using the developed hybrid film, which exhibited higher sensitivity than that obtained by the swabbing method. This high-performance SERS substrate based on the flexible and transparent AuNB-PDMS hybrid film has great potential applications in the fast in situ monitoring of biochemical molecules.

JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 2021; 279:111611. Abstract
In the present-day scenario, it is necessary to establish more flexible, effective and selective analytical methods that are easy to operate and less expensive. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) can be a useful technique to assess minute quantity of pollutants and in this work, an effort has been made to detect the trace quantification from the environmental samples. Herein, electrochemical sensor was fabricated using tungsten oxide nanorod (WO3·0.33H2O) for sensitive detection of fungicide, carbendazim (CBZ). Under optimal conditions, while studying the effect of pH on peak current, the highest peak current was observed at pH 4.2. The degradation of CBZ followed the mixed diffusion-adsorption controlled and quasi-reversible processess at the WO3·0.33H2O/GC electrode surface. Using WO3·0.33H2O/GCE sensor in SWV provided the lowest limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) values of 2.21 × 10-8 M and 7.37 × 10-8 M, respectively over the concentration ranges of 1.0 × 10-7 M to 2.5 × 10-4 M. The proposed method demonstrates potential applicability of the fabricated sensor for soil and water samples analysis in the management of creating a benign environment.

Abstract
A procedure for electroanalytical determination of the fungicide TBZ extracted and preconcentrated from tomatoes by the cloud-point extraction (CPE) technique was developed and validated in this work. The analytical technique used for this determination was HPLC coupled to an electrochemical detector (HPLC/EC), with a BDD electrode. The main variables of the CPE process were evaluated using a 24 full factorial design. The optimal condition of CPE was achieved by using Tergitol (19% v/v), NaCl (0.83 g), ultrasonic stirring time of 15 min and a temperature of 36 °C. Under these conditions, the preconcentration factor obtained was 5.7. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 2.7 × 10-8 mol L-1 (or 5.4 μg L-1) and 5.5 × 10-8 mol L-1 (or 11 μg L-1), respectively. The average recovery values varied from 80.7% to 115.1% and the precision (average of 3 days) was less than 15%, indicating the good accuracy and precision of the method developed here. Upon applying the method to examine commercial tomatoes, TBZ was detected in one of the three analyzed samples.
