Abstract
We report a metal/light-free aerobic oxidative C-C bond formation using sp3 C-H bond activation of tetrahydroisoquinolines catalyzed by flavin and iodine. The dual catalytic system enabled the oxidative Mannich and aza-Henry reactions by the cross-dehydrogenative coupling between two sp3 C-H bonds. Furthermore, the flavin-iodine-coupled catalysis was applied to the synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines through the sequential oxidative 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and dehydrogenative aromatization. The biomimetic flavin catalysis efficiently activates molecular oxygen; thus the non-metal dual catalytic system enables green oxidative transformation using molecular oxygen as an environmentally friendly terminal oxidant which generates benign water.

Abstract
Covalent adducts of flavin cofactors with nucleophiles play an important role in non-canonical function of flavoenzymes as well as in flavin-based catalysis. Herein, the interaction of flavin derivatives including substituted flavins (isoalloxazines), 1,10-ethylene-bridged flavinium salts, and non-substituted alloxazine and deazaflavin with selected nucleophiles was investigated using an experimental and computational approach. Triphenylphosphine or trimethylphosphine, 1-nitroethan-1-ide, and methoxide were selected as representatives of neutral soft, anionic soft, and hard nucleophiles, respectively. The interactions were investigated using UV/Vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy as well as by DFT calculations. The position of nucleophilic attack estimated using the calculated Gibbs free energy values was found to correspond with the experimental data, favouring the addition of phosphine and 1-nitroethan-1-ide into position N(5) and methoxide into position C(10a) of 1,10-ethylene-bridged flavinium salts. The calculated Gibbs free energy values were found to correlate with the experimental redox potentials of the flavin derivatives tested. These findings can be utilized as valuable tools for the design of artificial flavin-based catalytic systems or investigating the mechanism of flavoenzymes.

Abstract
Flavin photocatalysis were utilised for an aerobic oxidative reaction between arylamines and o-phenylenediamine. This metal-free reaction proceeded in methanol under visible light irradiation and consumed only atmospheric molecular oxygen, providing a novel eco-friendly method for the synthesis of benzimidazoles.

Abstract
We designed and prepared a novel N-heterocycle-based nanocatalyst by a post synthetic method, namely the [Fe3O4@DAA-BTrzPhen-Cu(ii)] composite. In this method, bistriazolyl-phenanthroline groups were stepwise synthesized on an Fe3O4 substrate and used as a tetradentate nitrogenous ligand for coordinating to copper ions. The obtained nanocomposite was well characterized using FT-IR, PXRD, TGA, EDAX, ICP-OES, EDX-mapping, SEM, TEM, VSM and BET analyses, which confirm the formation of a thermostable crystalline spherical particle morphology with the particle size in the range of 17 nm to 25 nm and a magnetization value of 42 emu g-1. Also, the catalytic activity of [Fe3O4@DAA-BTrzPhen-Cu(ii)] as a novel and magnetically separable heterogeneous nanocatalyst was evaluated in preparing various tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives from one-pot four-component condensation of anilines, aldehydes, 1,2-diketones and ammonium acetate, and favorable products were produced with excellent yields. The stability, low Cu leaching, and heterogenous nature of the nanocatalyst were confirmed by hot-filtration and leaching tests. The copper based nanocatalyst could be easily recovered by magnetic field separation and recycled at least 8 times in a row without noticeable loss in its catalytic activity.

Abstract
Recent advances in the environmentally benign synthesis of aromatic N-heterocycles are reviewed, focusing primarily on the application of catalytic methods and non-traditional activation. This account features two main parts: the preparation of single ring N-heterocycles, and their condensed analogs. Both groups include compounds with one, two and more N-atoms. Due to the large number of protocols, this account focuses on providing representative examples to feature the available methods.

Abstract
Herein, we report facile, atom-economical syntheses of multisubstituted 2,3-dihydropyrroles using flavin-iodine-catalyzed aerobic oxidative multistep transformations of chalcones with β-enamine ketones or 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and amines. Exploiting coupled flavin-iodine catalysis, the multistep reaction, including C-C and C-N bond formation, is promoted only by the consumption of O2 (1 atm), thus allowing aerobic oxidative synthesis that generates green H2O as the only waste.
