Abstract
Heterogeneous catalysts have recently regarded as a promising chose for the thermally-driven generation of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) through catalytic reactions with molecular oxygen, which can facilitate this process by specific geometric and electronic structure. However, the oxidative trifluoromethylation of alkenes to α-trifluoromethylated ketones by CF3SO2Na is rarely reported in this system. In this work, we report a one-pot polymerization ball milling strategy to construct precursor, and then pyrolyze it to obtain specific carbon nanotubes matrix with Fe/Fe3O4 nanoparticles and single atoms Fe. Remarkably, the optimized catalyst (Fe3O4-FeSAs-NPs@NC-1) displays excellent catalytic performance, broad substrates and recyclability for this fluorination reaction via radical pathway. Based on characterizations and mechanistic studies, we discover that the coexistence of Fe/Fe3O4 and Fe-Nx not only synergistically facilitates the catalytic efficiency in altering the electronic structure of Fe sites, but also benefits the absorption of O2 and the ability of the thermally-driven generating ROS which can activate CF3SO2Na to CF3 radical. This work offers a method of designing Fe-based catalysts and also opens up a new thermal-heterogeneous catalysis way for the oxidative trifluoromethylation of alkenes.

Abstract
An array of biologically interesting tri/difluoromethylated chromones and their heteroatom analogues were conveniently synthesized from the reaction of chromones and their heteroatom analogues with CF3SO2Na or HCF2SO2Na in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide under mild conditions. A mechanistic pathway involving the generation of the electrophilic tri/difluoromethyl radical, followed with the radical substitution of chromones and their heteroatom analogues, was postulated.

Abstract
The use of molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant in transition metal catalyzed oxidative process is an appealing and challenging task in organic synthetic chemistry. Here, we report a Ni-catalyzed hydroxylarylation of unactivated alkenes enabled by a β-diketone ligand with high efficiency and excellent regioselectivity employing molecular oxygen as the oxidant and hydroxyl source. This reaction features mild conditions, broad substrate scope and incredible heterocycle compatibility, providing a variety of β-hydroxylamides, γ-hydroxylamides, β-aminoalcohols, γ-aminoalcohols, and 1,3-diols in high yields. The synthetic value of this methodology was demonstrated by the efficient synthesis of two bioactive compounds, (±)-3'-methoxyl citreochlorol and tea catechin metabolites M4.

Abstract
![]()
We describe an efficient
catalytic strategy for enantio- and diastereoselective
synthesis of homochiral β-CF3, β-SCF3, and β-OCF3 benzylic alcohols. The approach is
based on dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) with Noyori–Ikariya
asymmetric transfer hydrogenation leading to simultaneous construction
of two contiguous stereogenic centers with up to 99.9% ee, up to 99.9:0.1
dr, and up to 99% isolated yield. The origin of the stereoselectivity
and racemization mechanism of DKR is rationalized by density functional
theory calculations. Applicability of the previously inaccessible
chiral fluorinated alcohols obtained by this method in two directions
is further demonstrated: As building blocks for pharmaceuticals, illustrated
by the synthesis of heat shock protein 90 inhibitor with in vitro
anticancer activity, and in particular, needle-shaped crystals of
representative stereopure products that exhibit either elastic or
plastic flexibility, which opens the door to functional materials
based on mechanically responsive chiral molecular crystals.

Abstract
Carbohydrates play essential roles in various physiological and pathological processes. Trifluoromethylated compounds have wide applications in the field of medicinal chemistry. Herein, we report a practical and efficient trifluoromethylation of glycals by an electrochemical approach using CF3SO2Na as the trifluoromethyl source and MnBr2 as the redox mediator. A variety of trifluoromethylated glycals bearing different protective groups are obtained in 60-90% yields with high regioselectivity. The successful capture of a CF3 radical indicates that a radical mechanism is involved in this reaction.

Abstract
Molecular oxygen as a green, non-toxic and inexpensive oxidant has displayed lots of advantages compared with other oxidants towards more selective, sustainable, and environmentally benign organic transformations. The oxygenation reactions which employ molecular oxygen or ambient air as both an oxidant and an oxygen source provide an efficient route to the synthesis of oxygen-containing compounds, and have been demonstrated in practical applications such as pharmaceutical synthesis and late-stage functionalization of complex molecules. This review article introduces the recent advances of radical processes in molecular oxygen-mediated oxygenation reactions. Reaction scopes, limitations and mechanisms are discussed based on reaction types and catalytic systems. Conclusions and perspectives are also given in the end.

Abstract
A novel visible-light-induced radical tandem trifluoromethylation/cyclization of unactivated alkenes with sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates (Rf = CF3, C3F7, C4F9, C6F13, C8F17) under air atmosphere has been developed. A range of quinazolinones containing unactivated alkene moiety and sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates were compatible with this transformation, leading to a variety of perfluoroalkyl-substituted quinazoline alkaloids. Remarkably, the experiment can be carried out without any metal catalyst, strong oxidant, or external photosensitizer.

Abstract
A strategically novel protocol for ring-opening functionalization of aryl gem-difluorocyclopropanes (F2CPs), which allows an expedient construction of CF3-containing architectures via visible-light-promoted F-nucleophilic attack manifold, was disclosed. Single electron oxidation of F2CPs was ascribed as the critical step for the success of this transformation by prompting F-nucleophilic attack, as well as the ensuing C-C bond scission. The observed intriguing regioselectivity for fluoroincorporation in this reaction was rationalized by invoking the cation-stabilization property of gem-difluorine substituents and also the thermodynamic gains acquired from forming CF3 functionality. By using cost-effective fluorination reagent and readily available substrates, a broad collection of structurally diversified α-allyl-β-trifluoromethyl ethylbenzene derivatives could be obtained in generally good yields. Further mechanistic investigations proved the engagement of a benzylic radical intermediate in this transformation.

Abstract
Organosulfur compounds have long played a vital role in organic chemistry and in the development of novel chemical structures and architectures. Prominent among these organosulfur compounds are those involving a sulfur(IV) center, which have been the subject of countless investigations over more than a hundred years. In addition to a long list of textbook sulfur-based reactions, there has been a sustained interest in the chemistry of organosulfur(IV) compounds in recent years. Of particular interest within organosulfur chemistry is the ease with which the synthetic chemist can effect a wide range of transformations through either bond formation or bond cleavage at sulfur. This review aims to cover the developments of the past decade in the chemistry of organic sulfur(IV) molecules and provide insight into both the wide range of reactions which critically rely on this versatile element and the diverse scaffolds that can thereby be synthesized.

Abstract
A practical metal-free perfluoroalkylation using acid anhydrides with unique reaction mode via carbocation has been developed.
We present a strategy for metal-free, alkene difunctionalization-type, oxy- and amino-perfluoroalkylations, using perfluoro acid anhydrides as practical and user-friendly perfluoroalkyl sources. This method provides efficient access to oxy-perfluoroalkylation products via carbocation formation due to the unique reactivity between styrenes and bis(perfluoroacyl) peroxides generated in situ from perfluoro acid anhydrides. This reaction is also applicable to metal-free intramolecular amino-perfluoroalkylation of styrenes bearing a pendant amino group. Synthetic utility of the oxy-trifluoromethylation products was confirmed by demonstrating derivatization via hydrolysis, elimination, and acid-catalyzed substitution with carbon nucleophiles. The mechanism of the carbocation formation was investigated experimentally and theoretically.

Abstract
A novel CuBr-catalyzed hydroxytrifluoromethylation reaction was investigated. Substituted 3-benzylidene-2-arylisoindolin-1-ones was reacted with sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate to afford substituted-3-hydroxy-2-aryl-3-(2,2,2-trifluoro-1-arylethyl)isoindolin-1-one. The reaction proceeded at 25 °C in air atmosphere in the absence of base and ligands. Our results indicate that trifluoromethyl free radical tends to attack a double bond rather than aryl in this reaction.

Abstract
Sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate, CF3SO2Na, and trifluoromethanesulfonyl chloride, CF3SO2Cl, are two popular reagents that are widely used for the direct trifluoromethylation of a large range of substrates. Further, these two reagents are employed for the direct trifluoromethylsulfenylation and trifluoromethylsulfinylation, the introduction of the SCF3 and the S(O)CF3 group, respectively. In addition to the aforementioned reactions, the versatility of these two reagents is presented in other reactions such as sulfonylation and chlorination. This first part is dedicated to sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate.

Abstract
Generally, oxy-trifluoromethylation in olefins is achieved using oxidants and transition metal catalysts. However, labile olefins remain unexplored due to their incompatibility with harsh reaction conditions. Here, unprecedented light-induced oxidant and metal-free tandem radical cyclization-trifluoromethylation and dehydrogenative oxygenation of 1,6-enynes have been achieved using a photoredox catalyst, CF3SO2Na, and phenanthrene-9,10-dione (PQ), Langlois' reagent (CF3SO2Na) and water as the oxygen source. This benign protocol allows for access to various CF3-containing C3-aryloyl/acylated benzofurans, benzothiophenes, and indoles. Moreover, the oxidized undesired products, which are inherently formed by the cleavage of the vinylic carbon and heteroatom bond, have been circumvented under oxidant free conditions. The mechanistic investigations by UV-visible and ESR spectroscopy, electrochemical studies, isotope labelling and density functional theory (DFT) suggest that light induced PQ produced a CF3 radical from CF3SO2Na. The generated CF3 radical adds to the alkene, followed by cyclization, to provide a vinylic radical that transfers an electron to PQ and generates a vinylic cation. Alternatively, electron transfer may occur from the CF3-added alkene moiety, forming a carbocation, which would undergo cationic cyclization to generate a vinylic carbocation. The subsequent addition of water to the vinylic cation, followed by the elimination of hydrogen gas, led to the formation of trifluoromethylated C3-aryloyl/acylated heterocycles.

Abstract
Domino-fluorination-protodefluorination decarboxylative cross-coupling of α-keto acids with styrene has been developed via photoredox catalysis. The critical part of this strategy is the formation of the carbon-fluorine (C-F) bond by the capture of a carbon-centered radical intermediate, which will overcome side reactions during the styrene radical functionalization process. Experimental studies have provided evidence indicating a domino-fluorination-protodefluorination pathway with α-keto acid initiating the photoredox cycle. The present catalytic protocol also affords a novel approach for the construction of α,β-unsaturated ketones under mild conditions.
