Abstract
We report a CO-free approach to indole-2-carboxylic esters: rhodium-catalysed C(2)-alkoxycarbonylation of indoles with 2,4,6-trimethylbenzoic acid-based carbonate anhydrides. Selective C-O bond cleavage of the anhydrides facilitates the introduction of various alkoxycarbonyl groups. Control experiments suggest that merging a rhodium catalyst and KI promotes the in situ formation of the RhI species.

Abstract
A convenient and practical method for the synthesis of bioactive ester-containing chroman-4-ones through the cascade radical cyclization of 2-(allyloxy)arylaldehydes and oxalates is described. The preliminary studies suggest that an alkoxycarbonyl radical might be involved in the current transformation, which was generated via the decarboxylation of oxalates in the presence of (NH4)2S2O8.

Abstract
Imidazopyridine is an important framework that constitutes several pharmaceutical drugs and biologically active molecules. Herein, we present the palladium-catalyzed regioselective C3-allylic alkylation of 2-aryl imidazopyridines with MBH carbonates. This strategy furnishes a broad spectrum of C3-allylated imidazopyridines, and their structures have been unequivocally established using X-ray analysis. Besides, the reaction can be easily scaled up on a gram scale, and the ensuing product can be smoothly manipulated into synthetically useful entities.

Abstract
A novel route for an iron-catalyzed tandem sulfonylation, C(sp2)-H activation, cyclization reaction which uses N-phenyl-N-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)benzenesulfonamide and benzenesulfonohydrazide to synthesize derivatives of (Z)-2-phenyl-4-((phenylsulfonyl)methylene)-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[e][1,2]thiazine 1,1-dioxide has been developed. The method features convenient operation and good functional group tolerance. In addition, it employs insensitive and inexpensive FeSO4 as the catalyst and provides a direct approach for the preparation of benzothiazides.

Abstract
A mild and eco-friendly visible-light-mediated regioselective C-H alkoxycarbonylation of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine heterocycles using rose bengal as a photoredox catalyst at room temperature has been developed. Biologically important alkoxycarboxylated imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines at the C-3 position as well as coumarins and quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones have been prepared. The present approach has the advantage of having a user- and eco-friendly catalyst, a carbonyl source, as well as extremely mild conditions for direct and regioselective C-H alkoxycarbonylation mediated by visible light as a green energy source.

Abstract
An FeCl2·4H2O-catalyzed oxidative alkoxycarbonylation/cyclization reaction of 2-aryl-N-acryloyl indoles with carbazates leading to ester-functionalized indolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives has been developed. The reaction features mild reaction conditions and broad functional group tolerance. Moreover, the ester group could be easily converted to the corresponding free acid and alcohol, and has high potential applications in organic and pharmaceutical synthesis. A radical pathway was proposed to explain this experiment.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed C-3 functionalization of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines with 3-indoleacetic acids through an aerobic oxidative decarboxylative process has been developed. The protocol provided a series of 3-(1H-indol-3-ylmethyl)-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines in moderate to good yields under simple reaction conditions. Importantly, some products exhibited potent antiproliferative activity in cancer cell lines.

Abstract
An alternative thioesterification reaction via copper-catalyzed oxidative coupling of readily available aroylhydrazides with disulfides is developed, in which oxidative expulsion of N2 overcomes the activation barrier between the carboxylic acid derivatives and the products. The reaction produces various thioesters in good to excellent yields with good functional group tolerance. In the reaction, stable and easily available aroylhydrazides are used as acyl sources and the relatively odorless disulfides are used as S sources. Mechanistic investigations demonstrate that the reaction of copper salt and oxidant (NH4)2S2O8 allows for achievement of tandem processes, including deprotonation, free-radical-mediated denitrogenation, and C-S bond formation.

Abstract
An iron-catalyzed radical cascade cyclization of dienes initiated by an alkoxycarbonyl radical has been developed in the presence of (NH4)2S2O8, leading to a series of fused nitrogen heterocyclic compounds under relatively mild reaction conditions. The reaction is triggered by the addition of an alkyoxycarbonyl radical derived from the cleavage of alkoxyformyl hydrazide. Afterward, the formed nucleophilic radical preferred addition to the electron-neutral vinyl rather than the electron-deficient vinyl, followed by cascade 6-endo cyclization and further radical cyclization.

Abstract
An efficient one pot, three component synthesis of C3 sulfonamidomethylated imidazopyridines has been disclosed under metal-free conditions, which utilized the commercially available and renewable reagent methanol as the main methylene source. A wide range of substituted imidazopyridines and sulfamides/amines were well tolerated to afford the corresponding products in up to 92% yield. In the isotopic labelling experiment, it was found that a minor part of the methylene also originated from DTBP. Moreover, the radical scavenger reactions were conducted, which suggested that a free-radical mechanism was probably not involved. The current methodology featured several advantages, including broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance and high reaction efficiency.
