Abstract
Preparing valuable olefins from cheap and abundant alkane resources has long been a challenging task in organic synthesis, which mainly suffers from harsh reaction conditions and narrow scopes. Homogeneous transition metals catalyzed dehydrogenation of alkanes has attracted much attention for its excellent catalytic activities under relatively milder conditions. Among them, base metal catalyzed oxidative alkane dehydrogenation has emerged as a viable strategy for olefin synthesis for its usage of cheap catalysts, compatibility with various functional groups, and low reaction temperature. In this review, we discuss recent development of base metal catalyzed alkane dehydrogenation under oxidative conditions and their application in constructing complex molecules.

Abstract
Here we report a copper-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of α-chloroketones from aromatic alkenes including electron-deficient olefins under visible-light irradiation. Preliminary mechanistic studies show that the peroxo Cu(II) species is the key intermediate and hydroperoxyl (HOO⋅) and chlorine (Cl⋅) radicals can be generated by ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT).

Abstract
The synthesis of isoindolinones from N-methoxy benzamides and saturated ketones via a bimetallic tandem catalytic annulation has been accomplished. The reaction is catalyzed by a Rh/Cu-cocatalytic system and proceeds via the combination of Cu-catalyzed dehydrogenation of ketones and Rh-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization with the assistance of the N-methoxy amide group which also acts as an oxidant to regenerate the Rh catalyst. This method shows good compatibility with a wide range of substrates and functional groups, and provides an alternative strategy to obtain diverse isoindolinones.

Abstract
We report a challenging copper-catalyzed Cformyl -H arylation of salicylaldehydes with arylboronic acids that involves unique salicylaldehydic copper species that differ from reported salicylaldehydic rhodacycles and palladacycles. This protocol has high chemoselectivity for the Cformyl -H bond compared to the phenolic O-H bond involving copper catalysis under high reaction temperatures. This approach is compatible with a wide range of salicylaldehyde and arylboronic acid substrates, including estrone and carbazole derivatives, which leads to the corresponding arylation products. Mechanistic studies show that the 2-hydroxy group of the salicylaldehyde substrate triggers the formation of salicylaldehydic copper complexes through a CuI /CuII /CuIII catalytic cycle.

Abstract
Solvent engineering is an increasingly essential topic in the chemical sciences. In this context, some recently appeared unconventional solvents have shown their large potential in the field of C-H bond functionalization reactions. This review aims not only at recognizing and classifying a short selection of these emerging solvents, in particular halogenated ones, but also at providing a medium term perspective of the possibilities they will offer for synthetic method development.

Abstract
Benzimidazole is a privileged, and routinely used pharmacophore in the drug discovery process. Herein, we report a mild, acid-free and one-pot synthesis of indole, alkyl and alpha-amino benzimidazoles through a novel HBTU-promoted methodology. An extensive library of indole-carboxylic acids, alkyl carboxylic acids and N-protected alpha-amino acids has been converted into the corresponding benzimidazoles in 80-99% yield. Since alpha-aminobenzimidazoles are highly useful synthons as chiral ligands for chemical catalysis, as well as for drug discovery endeavors, our reported method provides direct access to this scaffold in a simple, one-pot operation from commercially available carboxylic acids.
