Abstract
From both pharmaceutical and structural perspectives, the large family of prostaglandins represent a truly remarkable class of natural products. Prostaglandin A2 is a tissue hormone naturally found in human seminal plasma and in the sea whip Plexaura homomalla with yet poorly understood biological or therapeutic effects. Herein, a novel strategy for the stereoselective construction of both naturally occurring prostaglandin A2 epimers and first insights into their functional effects on the major inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A receptors (GABAAR) are provided. The synthesis of both epimers was achieved in only 11 steps starting from commercially available 2,5-dimethoxy-tetrahydrofuran employing an organocatalytic domino-aldol reaction, a Mizoroki-Heck reaction, a Wittig reaction as well as an oxidation-decarboxylation sequence. The (15R)-epimer significantly reduced GABA-induced currents through GABAA receptors while its (15S)-epimer did not show any significant effect. These data suggest that (15R)-PGA2 might serve as a novel scaffold for the development of selective GABAA receptor modulators.

Abstract
A recent study of the oxidative addition of zerovalent Ni to the C-CN bond of F-substituted benzonitriles showed significantly increased stabilization of the C-CN oxidative addition products with o-F groups (-6.6 kcal/mol per o-F) compared to m-F groups (-1.8 kcal/mol per m-F). To answer the question of whether this is an o-F effect or an ortho effect, in this study the effect of CF3 and CH3 groups on the oxidative addition of the [Ni(dmpe)] fragment [dmpe = 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane] to the C-CN bond of benzonitriles has been studied. A density functional theory study of the reaction pathway between η2-CN complexes and the C-CN oxidative addition products shows stabilization of the C-CN oxidative addition product with the electron-withdrawing CF3 group and destabilization with the electron-donating CH3 group in both tetrahydrofuran and toluene. There is a slightly larger ortho effect with CF3 (-7.4 kcal/mol) than with F. However, due to steric crowding, two o-CF3 groups did not show considerably more stabilization than one o-CF3 group. There is a linear relationship between ΔG° and the number of meta groups (2.0 kcal/mol stabilization per m-CF3 and 0.8 kcal/mol destabilization per m-CH3). On the basis of natural population analysis, as the C-CN bond becomes more polarized, the stability of the C-CN oxidative addition products with respect to the η2-CN complexes increases.

Abstract
2-Allyloxybenzaldehydes undergo [2 + 1] cycloadditions under 365 nm LED irradiation to form the corresponding chroman-fused cyclopropanols. The reaction proceeds easily without any catalysts or additives in dimethyl sulfoxide.

Abstract
The decarbonylative-coupling reaction is generally promoted by transition metals (via organometallic complexes) or peroxides (via radical intermediates), often at high temperatures to facilitate the CO release. Herein, a visible-light-induced, transition metal and external photosensitizer free decarbonylative addition of benzaldehydes to ketones/aldehydes at room temperature is reported. Tertiary/secondary alcohols were obtained in moderate to excellent yields promoted by using CsF under mild conditions. The detailed mechanistic investigation showed that the reaction proceeded through photoexcitation–decarbonylation of the aldehyde to generate an aromatic anion, followed by its addition to ketones/aldehydes. The reaction mechanism was verified by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. A visible-light-induced, transition-metal and external photosensitizer free decarbonylative addition of benzaldehydes to ketones/aldehydes via anion intermediates at room temperature is developed.![]()

Abstract
A simple methodology for the decarbonylation of aldehydes catalyzed by
commercially available palladium on carbon in a green two-solvent system is
reported. Various aromatic, aliphatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes were
transformed to the corresponding decarbonylated products in good yields.
Product isolation from the reaction mixture is operationally simple, and the
catalyst can be reused three times.

Abstract
The first example of main group metal Bi(iii)-catalyzed aminooxygenation of fluorinated propargyl amidines was developed to produce 2-fluoroalkyl imidazole-5-carbaldehydes in moderate to excellent yields, in which phenol played a critical role and could be recovered and recycled. In the presence of KOt-Bu, an unconventional decarbonylation occurred on the 2-fluoroalkyl imidazole-5-carbaldehydes.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free aerobic oxidative selective C-C bond-cleavage reaction in primary and secondary heteroaryl alcohols is reported. This reaction was highly efficient and tolerated various heteroaryl alcohols, generating a carboxylic acid derivative and a neutral heteroaromatic compound. Experimental studies combined with density functional theory calculations revealed the mechanism underlying the selective C-C bond cleavage. This strategy also provides an alternative simple approach to carboxylation reaction.

Nickel-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings of aldehydes. Nat Commun 2019; 10:1957. Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-couplings have been extensively used in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries for the construction of diverse C-C bonds. Conventional cross-coupling reactions require reactive electrophilic coupling partners, such as organohalides or sulfonates, which are not environmentally friendly and not naturally abundant. Another disadvantage associated with these transformations is the need for an exogenous base to facilitate the key transmetalation step, and this reagent inevitably induces side reactions and limits the substrate scope. Here, we report an unconventional Suzuki-type approach to the synthesis of biaryls, through nickel-catalyzed deformylative cross coupling of aldehydes with organoboron reagents under base-free conditions. The transformation tolerates structurally diverse (hetero)aryl substituents on both coupling partners and shows high reactivity and excellent functional group tolerance. Furthermore, the protocol was carried out on gram scale and successfully applied to the functionalization of complex biologically active molecules. Mechanistic investigations support a catalytic cycle involving the oxidative addition of the nickel into the aldehyde C(acyl)-H bond with subsequent hydride transfer, transmetalation, decarbonylation and reductive elimination processes.

Abstract
A novel catalytic system with a tripodal cobalt complex is developed for efficiently converting primary alcohols to esters. KO tBu is found essential to the transformation. A preliminary mechanistic study suggests a plausible reaction route that involves an initial Co-catalyzed dehydrogenation of alcohol to aldehyde, followed by a Tishchenko-type pathway to ester mediated by KO tBu.
